Bardzo mi się podobają te filmy. Mam jednak trochę wrażenie, że w tym wypadku nie do końca prowadzą do słusznego wniosku. Z tego co wiem od osób mocno analizujących źródła w takich pojedynkach jednak zdecydowanie częściej wygrywał rapier. Myślę, że poziom szablisty trochę wypaczył eksperyment ale tym bardziej szacunek dla niego. Zastanawiam się co by było jakby do lewej ręki wziął czekanik czy nadziaczek :D

it's not fair comparing 1H weapon vs 2H when you use 1H you can have shield in other hand which i didn't see in this fight defending with single hand against longer weapon too disadvantageous since longsword can overpower in bind and get point across from safer distance regardless

think of a Muay Thai fighter doing combos now imagine a medieval fighter doing sword combos 💯

Imagine how much people actually died from those techniques

That disarm he does at 2:34 is amazing, I had to rewatch it so many times at .25 speed to figure out what he did there. He sandwiched the other guy's sword blade between the back of his own wrist and the grip shaft of his own sword, and then leveraged the sword out of the other guy's hand. Super stylish but that seems extremely dangerous unless you're wearing some long, thick gloves.

All of the fencers appear to me to be supremely skillful. With one blade against two, the sabers gave an exceptionally good account of themselves.

This was a quality film better than any thing Hollywood could ever produce, the fight scenes showrd even the heros getting wounded though they won technically no one did. The idea that to win sometimes you have to shed yor own blood. Well made film.

I had a feeling the rapier and dagger would win but I had no idea it would be so close in the second fight. Just goes to show it's equally about the fighter himself not just the weapon.

I'm no expert but Sabre could have a small buckler to protect his chest on the off hand to be more fair? Also they are both really good can clearly see their reflexes so it's quite entertaining to watch. The longsword move like a lethal spaghetti and a very long reach. I was amazed by how fast sabre guy would react. This showcase both weapon strong point imo. also how scary it is to be charged with a YOLO longsword trust.

well the long sword was ment to be used with a full plate armor. that saber would do nothing to a man in a plate mail. wach of this swords developed for a specific propose

Very interesting! Just watching the bouts shows off the two weapons' designs very well. The sport epee is as light and fast as possible without sacrificing the ability to parry (look how much it bounces!), while the rapier is as light as possible without sacrificing the ability to penetrate human flesh.

God damn it, people. There is no "best weapon" when it comes to swords. Assuming they're all made of similar quality, the only questions is what role do you want them to fill.

The Rapier is a Cut and Thrust sword. They should Cut and Thrust. Maybe award a Historical Point for doing this. A Historical Point would be using the Rapier as intended over Olympic Rules.
