      @P4to D0l4n por favor... As pesquisas que vi sobre esse assunto, foram feitas por espanhóis... Nessas pesquisas dum tal "instituto real delcano" (ler em espanhol) ou lá como a coisas se chamava, eles põem sempre uma grande percentagem de portugueses a quererem a suposta união e um número elevado de espanhóis a não quererem dando a ideia de que há um certo 'desespero português' em "aderir" à causa e os espanhóis a não gostarem muito da ideia... E isto aconteceu diversos anos a fio... Se não estou em erro, 2011, 2012, 2013...Gostava era de ver um instuto português a fazer o mesmo na Galiza ou na Catalunha só para ver como os gajos (espanhóis) reagiriam. Há também um canal aqui no CZcams dum chanfrado espanhol que se chama 'Portugal is Spain' onde aparece a península ibérica coberta com a bandeira de Espanha, claro, fui lá, tentei denunciar e só não lhe chamei espanhol, o resto chamei-lhe tudo...

    Honestly, as a spanish person, I wouldn't mind joining forces with Portugal but not in a "national" way. More like an economic, trade and maybe military cooperation. By the way, I don't think portuguese people are very into the idea, even though I am completely sure that we spanish and portuguese people get on very well in general. Saludos, amigo!

      Portuguese and Spanish military train a lot together (Navy, Army and Air Force - there are for example in the lattest branch mentioned a lot of joint operations with you F-18 and ours F-16). Also, our polices are the most interactive polices in the eu. Many times we go to Spain to learn some tricks of the trade and join combined forces, others are about Spanish policemen in Portugal. I really like this healthy partnership.,

      @quironwhoknows6491 Před 4 lety +52

      The EU and NATO already give us plenty of opportunities to interact at all needed levels. But for this to be possible, you'd have to consider we would never accept back monarchy (and even less to become subjects of your king), so you would have to become a republic to allow for our common election of a president and parliament/government.

    As an idea, it sounds really
    good, but I think it wouldn’t ever work. We are similar countries, with a similar language and a common history and land (Iberian Peninsula), but we are different. Furthermore, it is obvious that one part will have more influence over the other. Spain is bigger and has a larger population than Portugal, so it wouldn’t be an equal Union. Portugal will always be the “smaller” partner, and not because we, as Spaniards, want Portugal to be that, it’s just due to size and population reasons, and Portugal (obviously) will never let that happen, so for us it will be more a pain than a profitable Union.
    So I think we both prefer to keep our independence, rather than making an experiment that never worked (and which, except for a short historical period of time, none of us wanted either).
    Even when we two had the first Global Empires and, because of that, a possible conflict of interests, we decided to sing Treaties (Tordesillas and Zaragoza) and to literally distribute the world between each other, just to avoid a direct conflict between us both. And, in general, both parties always respected and honored those treaties, while the rest of European Empires were always fighting to diminish their enemy.
    We both could have had try to conquer each other, and instead of that, we always preferred to work together and to cooperate.
    I really love Portugal and as a Spaniard I consider Portuguese people as our brothers, but I think I prefer to share a common house and living in two different rooms, rather than living in the same room together... We need to strengthen ties, we should work together in order to bring closer Iberian culture and heritage all around the world, and we have to start looking to each other more than we are currently doing (I think it was Saramago who said that Spaniards and Portuguese are like Siamese brothers who were born at the same time but who had never looked to each other). I really feel far closer to Portuguese people than to any other European, but, as far as I consider Portugal as a brother, I also think that brothers need to live separately, loving each other and always supporting each other when needed, but each brother needs his own room, which we always be open for each other.
    I think it’s time now to vindicate a unity, but not in form of a common state, but via culture, history, and a common blood. We don’t need to be a single country in order to get closer, we just need to understand that we will always live next door, and that we will always be brothers. Brothers living separately, but brothers at the end of the day.

      yeah, I'm also Portuguese and think that would be cool in theory we would be closer to our Spanish brother that we share a lot. And regional languages like Galician and Catalan would be spoken again.
      The problem is that's just in theory in practice would be a complete mess and would probably fail.

    I am portuguese and I would support an Iberian Federation, in which Portugal is equal, not with Spain, but with Galicia, Castille ans Léon, Andalusia, Aragon, Catalonia, basically the Spanish subdivisions.
    The capital would probably be Madrid since it's already designed as an independent capital state, and it would have a Semi-presidential system.

    Very interesting video, but in my opinion it does not lack certain subjective bias towards Portugal. For example, how would Spanish language risk became Portuguese? It does not make sense. All equal things considered (here there is no superior culture or anything like that) the most spoken language would likely prevail, in case only one survives. And Spanish is more widely spoken, both inside and also outside the Iberian Peninsula. GDP difference of 7K per capita is not huge, but still relevant. Also you think Spain is completely fractured, but this is not the case. There are troubles in certain autonomous regions, but not even the whole regions with a co-official language would want to secede. In Galicia the center-right is ruling as so have done many times, for example. No, Spain would not join such federation as a collection of 17 states (maybe some of them could, but not the whole country), and therefore Portugal would not dominate the union. Also Portugal lacks big cities (with the exception of th capital Lisbon), which could be counter-productive for this country in the long run, in case such union one day happens. If cities grow in both countries, the relative increment of Spanish population in Portuguese cities would be bigger than Portuguese in Spanish cities.

    • @SaltEnjoyer007
      @SaltEnjoyer007 Před 4 lety +2

      True, this 7k per capita is a LOT in a total of 30k then that topic was super bias and people can say whatever they want but each region just want more power and not separation. Spain together is a global power and got a saying in EU ruling but if were 7 small Countrys they would be powerless and no voice in Europe like Portugal. Portuguese people love to be "Patriotic" and say "never" in anexation but at same time run at droves to work and live outside, double standards....what i am not liking of Spain now is seing it go so muth left/feminist leaning and voting for Socialism goverments, they will destroy Spain like Socialism destroyed Portugal.
