    Hi Cole, thanks for that really interesting explanation on the blocks and gearbox story. I fitted a complete MG1100 engine and gearbox to my ‘63 mini 850 (back in 1971) and it made it a much nicer ride as my first daily as a teenager. Bless you buddy and live long and prosper 🖖

      Did much the same about the same time to my 1962 Mini, 1098, 12G295 head, Duplex timing gears,1 1/2" SU, 3.44 final drive. Still have the car, 1275 in it now, although the 1098 is still fine.

(My first car was the mini and my second car was a bubble -arch Escort 1600) I was still a teenager then and since marrying in 76 we’ve done quite a few house moves so didn’t really have much opportunity to own more than one car at a time..I would love to get them back though! Kind regards buddy.🙏

      @@philtucker1224 Yes, the house moves were probably prohibitive. During WW2 the house that was here was bombed, when Dad came out of the Royal Engineers he bought the bombed site and built a good sized detached house with a large garage and much parking. I own the house now that parents have long passed, and my cars have nearly always been here. My first car was an Isetta. Best regards.

      It's actually pretty wild what can be fixed up and restored. Living in the USA we don't have as much access to new parts so repairing and refurbishing is usually the route we have to take.

    So one of the heads has the spacers between the bottom of the spring and the top of the cylinder head and the other one does not. That is why that one cylinder head just has a flat surface where the springs go.

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  Před 2 lety +2

      What are the purpose of the spacers? To increase preload on the inner springs?

      Part AEA403 is indicated for 998 Cooper, but my late '64 1275 S also had them fitted. Originally intended to stop the inner springs wandering around at high revs. New spring technology obviates their use.
