The lower end of my 2010 Suzuki 2.5 Hp Outboard motor blew up. Pretty much destroyed every part. The only good thing that came from it was that I could make a video about totally rebuilding the lower unit. Not a tough build but can be a bit tough if you do not have all the correct tools. I do not have the correct tools so I utilized a lot of work arounds to get the job done.

Hi Steve. I use CZcams a lot for tutorials like this and this is THE best, most detailed, useful, informative and friendly video on the whole of CZcams! Fantastic detail. Thank you so much. You've saved me a lot of $$$.

Steve's a great Kayak Fisherman, fears nothing in the ocean, awesome DIY ideas. But what I love the most is how you show us not to be afraid, to take your time, dive in and repair something. Great video Steve..🤟🙏🙏🎣

Hi Steve, thank you for this brilliant content. I have a 2006 Suzuki 2.5hp and it's not been serviced or run for 10 years. Your videos have given me the confidence to try and get her up and running and you've made what seemed "too difficult" and something only a professional service tech could do accessible. I could do with some more tips and sometimes I've encountered a snag that you've not had to deal with but I feel much more confident now. Thanks for plain talking and demystifying it

If anyone thinks a dealer measures gear backlash you would be fooling yourself. Very good video I’m sure it will encourage others to do it themselves especially with the “work around” you showed.

Well, when you can't get on the water, you do a maintenance video! 😁
(At least it looked like the eastern tail coming off of Ida was messing with the Keys. I wasn't expecting a video this week at all...)

Omg thank you so much this is amazing. I just bought a 2006 and got a lemon from the seller, it’s sitting in the shop apart right now. Debating letting it die or tackle this myself.

Great video, although filling oil this way can leave the gearbox almost empty. The oil has a small passage behind the brass bushing and filling through it will not allow air from the gearbox to escape. When the upper chamber is full of oil, it will appear to be overfilled and oil will flow out of the bolt hole, but the main chamber will be almost empty.

Steve, that is a really useful video, tanks! I am having a problem though. At about 30 in the video where you are pushing the lower end on. A QUESTION: the drive and gear shift are easy to align but the water tube is so loose it is very hard to get it to stay central. Also, on my engine you cant actually see if it connects into the rubber cup. The housing blocks the view. The only thing I can think of doing is starting it up and seeing if water comes out but I gather if I do that it overheats in seconds. Thoughts?

Daryl measure the diameter or check the online parts breakdown for the diameter (probably a metric size), check out McMaster Carr or MSC for the correct rod.
