    Doug, in regard to the sleeper bed, if you freeze at 6:47 if you look at the "doghouse" (engine hump) you'll see where the diamond tuck stops...and in line with that is that small threshold portion of the floor (behind the seats). THAT is where you want that bulkhead to be placed. Basically, if you move the bunk (bed) forward...toward the front of the interior tub, even with that detail on the doghouse, the interior length will better match the inner cab. The problem with this kit is it was engineered to give the option of 2 totally different trucks with minimal tooling expense.
    I will also note, that if building the sleeper as provided, the curtain would actually hide the sleeper interior and there is really no need to include the bunk at all anyway. If you get the 75th annv. combo kit (options to build either the double axle, sleeper or single axle, "day cab" in one kit, you'll be better see where the original AMT designers were coming from (and kudos to them for trying to make such a versatile model in the first place).
    I have built both versions so far and they have both turned out to please my eye, although I will admit, during both builds, I thought they were going to turn out like junk....glad I stuck with them. To sum up, these kits do show their age and wear on the original molds but, I praise @AMT and @ roundtwo models for their efforts.
    My last remarks are for YOU Doug:
    @Right On Replicas ...THANK You this and ALL your videos, you really make time away from the modeling bench very worth while.

    I built this kit 2 years ago. I decided to go with the colors on the box, retro and true to the era. (My first real tractor was a 1976 White Freightliner, 350 Cummins with a 13 speed). I used some of the decals (ICC numbers, etc.) but I painted everything else. Even though I had a Cummins, I opted for Cat yellow for the old reliable 3406. Great fun for a winter project which now resides in a clear display case.

There is a huge number of ideas that would make great models. I have this exact kit and still haven't built it. Had it since 1997 and got it because of a local hobby shop flood. I am in the process of building this kit, and regarding the sleeper bed, I'm pretty sure how it's supposed to fit. The two interior tubs go together, then you put the bed with the rear of the bed piece lined up with the rear of the interior tub, then that front divider piece sits in front of the two tabs on the main interior tub, and rests against the bed. I haven't fully assembled the interior yet, but I think this is how it is supposed to be. AMT really needs to make new instructions for this kit. Thanks for the walkthrough, having reference colors is nice. They really should at least add a color guide to the instructions.

    • @RightOnReplicas
      @RightOnReplicas  Před rokem +1

      SE, That can be a challenge. Carefully put the cab in place before applying glue to see where the contact points are. Just make sure you don't put any pressure on the small pieces. when you know where those contact point are remove the cab and add some strong glue. I built this back in the mid 70s as a kid and the fit for the cab parts was just as bad back then

      Wally, Most of the kits that are reissued simply use the old molds. Nothing changes for the parts themselves. It's usually just new decals and box art! PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
