  • This is my second Scag mower. Both of them are LEMONS.
    The dealer has informed me that Scag is aware of the problems, yet, they continue to manufacture mower with defective parts.

    Thanks for all the comments, suggestions and input. After posting this video and sending it to the dealer for viewing, he agreed to take the mower back and give me a complete refund, however, he refused to sell me another mower. I think it may have to do with my comment about needing to contact an attorney. I really wanted to purchase a new mower from him as when it needs service, his dealership is in the town close to where I have my farm and camp. I ended up buying a Turf Tiger II from a dealer in the New Orleans area where I live. Turned out that his daughter was married to my first cousin. If I have any issues with my new mower I know he will take care of me. Bleachinuri, I did not know that it was an older model that I purchased until I read your comment and then purchased the Turf Tiger. I wasn't happy about learning that. My new mower has the digital display that you mentioned.Okay, here's what I've concluded. The problem has nothing to do with the PTO switch, or contacts that needed cleaning, etc. It is an electrical problem and I've deduced that it has something to do with the wiring harness and/or the switches in the handles, under the seat or in the brake lock position. Any of these switches will prevent the engine from starting or will cause it to stop if engaged during operation. When the brake is in the lock position with the PTO switch turned off, and the arms pushed out, I can not get up out of the seat without the engine stopping. I thought this was a new safety feature in the new mowers but it is not. Just like my first Turf Tiger, I can turn of the blades, lock the brake and then get up out of the seat to pick up a branch, paper, etc. WITHOUT the engine killing. I could not do this with the Cheetah. So I think its in the wiring harness or switch under the seat and once the mower has been running for a while and warms up, something begins to short and causes the problems that I've been having. By the way guys, I always start the mower with the throttle in the halfway position. I had it set in full throttle for the video due to the start/run problems that I was experiencing.

    I JUST FIXED MINE!! The battery went dead last year so I jumped it with a starter pack twice (which the manual says not to do by the way). I replaced the battery this year. Worked for a while but then had similar problems to you this year. I replaced the fuel filter since I had one on the shelf anyway. Then I downloaded the Kohler manual and started learning about all the sensors and error codes. Suspected all the kill switches but then finally found that the battery ground wire was loose underneath the engine!!!!! What a bitch it was to get to and tighten but it's finally fixed!!!!!

    I've seen more regretful-purchase videos of Scag mowers than any other brand. This is why we buy ExMark (who is known for their dealer support and honest warranty) and Wright mowers for their dependability. If you're buying commercial mowers, protect yourself with research, research, and more research. Best of luck with your new mower, and thanks for sharing this!

    This seems to be happening a lot with this particular model. Coming out of the Scagg lineup. There is another gentleman who posted a new video of a brand new cheetah. That he got from his local dealer up north. The mower had 1.9 hours on it and the left side spindle failed. Dealer charged to pick it up . Did not say if he was charged for replacement. Now he’s experiencing belt issues. This alone, has sent me looking at other brands.

    If it's under warranty you should be able to take it back and tell them to switch it out. Any wiring problems goes on Scag. They should be able to wire around that PTO and if it stops. It's the PTO switch. It sounds like a short. Either the battery is dead or it's not grounding

  • @rogerfossette2097
    @rogerfossette2097 Před 6 lety +11

    Sir your problem is a fuel delivery problem, not electrical... The engine is running out of fuel pressure either by electric fuel pump problem or a sucking air leak from the fuel tank to the fuel pump.. The longer you run it the worse it will get.. Run it until it quits again and turn key on. Do you hear the fuel pump running? If so it is sucking air, not fuel..

    • @weeeves
      @weeeves Před 5 lety

      I have to disagree. Based on the info provided, sounds like an electrical issue. Failing electrical components usually begins to show symptoms when they begin to warm up. The voltage gauge is clearly showing battery voltage when it should be around 14v. This would indicate a charging issue - either a defective voltage regulator or stator.

    So if you still have the mower buy the third party switch. If that dosent resolve it, listening to it sounds like the air filter needs cleaned and or the line so buy mass airflow sensor cleaner spray some in the air intake and start it up on half throttle and slowly increase throttle. Now you may have to adjust the clutch if it is stalling like that I have had that problem with my V Ride (Kawasaki Motor)

    Just an fyi.. The uh check engine light on any EFI vehicle or machinery from pretty much 86 ++ (machinery little later on average) the S. E. S. light should ALWAYS be on in a "K. O. E. O. " (Key On Engine Off) then go out upon startup.

  • @mikecooley3361
    @mikecooley3361 Před 6 lety

    I'm guessing it's an EFI model by the check engine light and electric fuel pump priming the rail. I had a kohler efi on an exmark and the computer went bad and would only run one cylinder. I HATE EFI on a small engine. I'm betting that or the harness for the EFI was the issue. Glad you got your money back, sorry to hear you had issues. I'm narrowing my next choice down to either a 61" Cheetah or a Kubota Z726.

    I noticed right off the bat your charging system isn’t working, it should show on your voltmeter a reading of 13.2 to 14.5 or so volts while running. With it not charging there’s not enough voltage to run your fuel pump, pro and other electrical components. This will make it stall when you engage the pto or even while Idling.

    looks like to me, you have a loose wire somewhere in the charging system. that PTO switch is the same PTO switch the have used for decades. Looks like to me the loose wire heats the charging system and you have that issue. The clutch will pull down the mower like you have that issue. Looks like to me the service department did a huge disservice to you in not fixing the issue. Looks like to me they just replaced to PTO switch and sent it back. The PTO switch is not the issue, its a loose wire somewhere in the system. looks like to me the dealer did not do their full dealer prep on your mower. Sorry you have issues but the service department did you wrong. Have you called Scag and say Yoohoo I have an issue.....I would be interested to see what Scag had to say. 9 times out of 10 the dealer in their haste to get the product moved don't exactly do their job. Sorry you had issues Call Scag and tell them what the service department told you. You really think Scag would really put out a product that a PTO switch would be defective....I don't think so. They replaced the switch and still have the same issue...sounds like to me the dealers service department screwed up.

    Take it to a different/more knowledgeable dealership for service. Your dealer obviously doesn’t have a good mechanic!!! I’ve owned several scags and they are great machines... I’ve never heard of a pto switch causing a mower to stall out.

      Theres been a couple scags that ive seen have a PTO switch issue where it would prevent the mower from turning on unless you wiggled it, but those were all high hour machines and it would never cause a stall.

    You are being told false information. The Check Engine light is tied to your ENGINE computer. It needs to be plugged in and diagnosed. It will have a code that will identify the engine sensor that is faulty. No switch on the mower itself would cause the check engine light to illuminate and run badly like that. The CE light only applies to the engine system itself. Go to Scag.com, send a contact in via their contact page. Let them know your check engine light is on and your dealer has not been able to fix it. They will have a regional service manager get involved and help you get this resolved.

      This guy is right. SCAG used similar OBD1 light flash codes. Your problem is either loose pto ground or rectifier. Please quit trying to be a mechanic. You are only confusing yourself and others

      For what this thing cost He should NOT have to figure it out for himself. That is what dealers and warrantys are for. Personally, I would thank my lucky stars that the dealer offered my money back and RUN, not walk away. I do not support a company that will not support me after I spend my money with them. Not gonna happen.

    stop grifting, if scag sucks fine, but you are starting the mower wrong. full choke, slow speed, crank for 15 seconds or so- this essentially primes the motor, no choke, slow speed, turn key start, DOES START, run for a few minutes, engage pto at half to two thirds speed, then increase speed to full. mow yards, conquer all bankers and politicians with newly found independent contractor, in practice but not on paper, status. ps taxes are gay. best of luck homie.
