thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us!
Thank you! This really helped me to understand the complexity of this synth, which on the surface didn't seem to have nearly as much available without patching.
This is absolutely the Moog to get.
I think you’re right
It sounds so sick in real life!
@@AnthonyGoodley Then a Grandmother, one of the Phattys, or a used Voyager.
We have recently bought a Matriarch and this run-through has been totally invaluable. @Simon.Campbell has watched it four times, referring back to our machine on every patch. One thing from a practical point of view is that there is a total difference between listening to this in isolation and in a mix. Delay is fabulous and lush when in an open ambient environment but can lead to muddiness in a mix, certainly in faster less open compositions. Take a listen to all the big synth tunes from Depeche Mode, Erasure, Gary Numan etc. A lot of these are mono, panned and placed in the mix dry. Of course, we love the BBD echo but it needs to be used with care. Also, watch out for the seductive stereo. It can end up overtaking your track. Thank you for your expert advice on this fabulous instrument.
I really love that Mr. Fisher is not afraid to go a bit crazy. The beauty of the Matriarch is the ability to go from classic synth sounds to quirky modular style bleeps in an instant.
I thought the Beatles was going to be the best stream of the holidays. Thanks Daniel.
I've had many cool synths over the years, but the Matriarch is prob the most fun/versatile and beat sounding instrument I've ever owned. It is my prized possession. 😎
Mine is coming today. This comment increases the excitement
@@lordundhimself1310 congrats! It will change your life 😎
Mr. Daniel Fisher, absolutely the best synthesizer video I've ever viewed. I'm following you on my Matriarch as you're going through the various steps...my mine is blown! Your expertise and this amazing keyboard are beyond words! Thank you! Wonderful job!!!
What a great video to happen.
“I don’t want it to get bloated”
>1 hour and 45 minute video
lol.
But yeah, this is dope I’m gonna watch this bad boy when I get a chance this weekend.
I have a Mother-32. My dream is to have another M-32 and a Matriarch. This video has convinced me to get the Matriarch first. Thanks for the great survey! Well done!
Fell in love with my Matriarch all over again. 😍
Right person for the job.
This is an absolutely unreal video. thanks Daniel! What are the chances of a monthly deep dive featuring other synths??
A great and fantastic deep dive for the wonderful Matriarch. This video should be part of the delivery of every Matriarch 👍. Thank you.
This video tutorial deep dive beyond understanding all the front panel modules and patch points is a treasure just to understand the Matriarch’s Global Settings capabilities. I have had my Matriarch for almost a year now, and have generally avoided making global setting changes as the manual does not really communicate well what you may gain (or lose) when making global setting changes. Daniel’s clear examples with experienced recommendations have so totally opened up an entirely new dimension of Matriarch’s capabilities, that it makes me approach the Matriarch now as if its an entirely new instrument !!. Many Thanks Daniel !!
Got the Matriarch and it is the best and dirtiest sounding synth I know. It puts a smile on my face every second I use it. Thanx for this Video
Thanks Dan this was super helpful! I always wondered why the ping pong effect of the delay didn't sound like it should. Killing input 1 or 2...so simple but never thought of it! This was the most helpful video guide to the Matriarch that I've found yet.
honestly this was extremely helpful -- i feel like no other video ever really clarified some of those details about the delay... mono -> stereo pingpong is so cool!
Thanks Daniel. Best Matriarch Deep Dive !!!
Thanks a lot for the deep dive! I bought my Matriarch a week ago and I am so overwhelmed from all its functions. Now I can play chords which sounds great with 4 oscillators :)
Just received mine three days ago. Already coming up with wonderful patches and sequences thanks to this amazing instructional video.
The Matriarch sounds so good it's bound to be at the heart of my music and songs for many years to come. What a wonderful piece of gear!
I've been waiting months for this..
I’ve decided to sell my Grandmother to get the Matriarch, got this saved and watched a couple times already, amazing help, thank you! Im from Scotland 🤟
Long awaited for sure. So glad Sweetwater and Daniel did this. I have a Matriarch and it still remains a mystery to me.
Thank you for this Deep Dive! You are the Best, Daniel!!
Because of Daniel.. I have bougt some MOOGS from SW.
NICK BATT GANG SIGN : 4:04
many thanks, Daniel.
Thanks so much for putting this together. Insanely helpful... especially since I was never sure about why the ping pong didn't sound the way I thought it should, and this showed me that I wasn't losing my mind!
Give this man an award. By far the best in depth guide to this synth. Thank you. I'll be watching this one over quite a few times.
you are a hero Daniel! Thanks so much!
Love my Matriarch and I love this Daniel. I’ve learned a lot here. Thanks.
WOW! Awesome job Daniel. Epic demo and amazing sounds you created.
Beautifully laid out from beginning to end ! I’ve learned a lot more about how to properly patch this keyboard . What I love about it most is that it really has a sound and character that sets it apart from so many other models . Thanks again Daniel 👍🏻
Wow! Awesome video! I really needed a refresher deep dive and this could not have been better. Thank you!
Fantastic deep dive and the way he explains the reasoning really helps. I'm hoping I can take some of these ideas and use them on my other modular gear as well
That was a great lesson. I knew some of it already, but seeing it explained differently, deepens and simplifies my own understanding, and lets my get to everything more easily.
We need a deep-dive on the Sequential Pro-3. You do these so well!
fantastic deep dive. Thank you 🙌🏼
Wow! Great video! You pretty much think exactly as I do about all the global preferences, and modular in general! Great job Daniel, bravo!
thank you for the deep dive and the versatile inside look into the matriarch - very fun and educational! LOVE
Incredible deep dive! Your video showed me how to get a practical linear FM tones with the oscillators. I hope Moog fixes the octave delay soon bc that can be a great effect from a high chord to a low unison in paraphonic unison. I’m also going to experiment with your global settings preferences like drift for some extra analog goodness.
Thank you 🙏🏻 The clearest tutorial I’ve seen. Really helpful! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I bought a Hydrasynth based on your comprehensive walkthrough of it and now I want a Matriarch. You’re expensive to watch 😂
I have a couple Moog vinyl records...Pretty trippy
Excellent walk-through! Thank you!
I've had my Matriarch since last July and Daniel's deep dive has me discovering new techniques. Thanks for the masterclass!

Thanks for the useful tips!
EXCELLENT!!!!! very detailed and useful
This is epic exploration

Amazing video on one of my fave synths I own :)
That was amazing, thank you. Basically, you just conducted the the modular synthesis class I should have taken (but didn’t) when I was in college for music… I also had no clue about the dummy-cable-for-real-pingpong trick-just knew the pingpong on the Matri wasn’t quite sounding how it should. Duh.
Just got my Dark Edition on Friday. This synth is amazing; probably will lead me down the infinite rabbit hole that is modular. This video was so helpful in moving around the synth.
Thanks, Daniel!
Does it sound darker than the normal one?
Daniel is so awesome! I wonder when the Patriarch will come out?
Hopefully the Patriarch will be black, or maybe 2 colors.
amazingly good video. I wish you would have touched interfacing eurorack.
Legend!!
Great video! Would love to see you do a deep dive on the Behringer 2500 set up!
Whoa Dude! that was gnarly, totally non- tublular... Surfs UP! Ride the waves ;-)

damn!! i wish Daniel tried aftertouch into arpeggio rate. changing it gradually by pressing harder could be so cool. can’t wait to go home and try it on mine
Thanks for this video! Would be awesome if you did one of these for the Novation Summit one day!
It appears that the Matriarch's stereo signal was recorded backwards. That is to say, the left channel in the video contains the right channel of the Matriarch and vice versa.
This may be confusing to some viewers, especially when he's demonstrating the SPACING knobs. Those knobs always control the left channel (either the first filter or the first delay), so viewers at home may be confused when they hear the change occurring on the right channel instead.
Otherwise, the production value here is top notch. Daniel, as always, did a great job at breaking complex ideas down.
The hidden system status was a big red flag for me but your walkthrough makes me reconsider buying one :) Thanks!
Great video! Also love when people mix metaphors 🖍 or maybe Daniel ate his crayons as a kid
Hi Justin. I didn't eat them but, in grade school, I used to put them on the radiator to watch them drip down the sides. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
@@sweetwater I liked drip candles. Would buy them from Spencer's, stick them into wine bottles, and then sit in my room listening to physical graffiti by candlelight✌️
Nice
Thanks for this wonderful video.
I've played around with a Matriarch several times in a music store and it is certainly a beautiful sounding synth. It can make Minimoog type sounds as well as pretty much anything my Behringer Poly D can do (except the Juno chorus effect). However, the Matriarch is far beyond a Minimoog with all of these modulation possibilities. I've just learned a lot about how those attenuators can contribute to your sound shaping possibilities as well as the advantages of modular synthesis in general. Combine that with the stereo filters and the stereo delays and you have one heck of a synth.
I really want one of these and I'm debating whether I should trade in my Poly D or keep my Poly D but trade in or sell something else to help fund the Matriarch. I'm kinda leaning towards the latter.
Thanks again for this wonderful and educational video.
Our generation’s Minimoog
59:40 thank you
"Deep dive" "sweetwater" lovely bitter watta roight THere!
I love how you wait 2 year to get back from the support..:D:D:D
This is a great video! BUT something has me really confused. I have my knobs all set EXACTLY like you do at the 58:20 mark, but your matriarch sounds so much deeper than mine. We both have the octave set at the 8, but mine is much higher. Is there a global setting that changed the octaves?? I'm so confused please help! thank you!
Would you get this synth over the Moog Sound Studio trio package ?
Any good for ambient/pad style sounds ?
i'd get something like a prophet 6 for pads sound.
Something weird is going on in the Env to PWM chapter where when you change the PWM params the right channel goes away and only comes back when you change the note you are playing. Wonder if that is a bug in the synth or somewhere else along the signal path.
Hi mitechko. Good ears! If you go full screen you'll see that I inadvertently left the FILTER SPACING knob at 9 o'clock instead of 12 o'clock, thus making one side darker than the other. -_Daniel_
Daniel, I got a question about VCF in parallel mode. If VCF1 first processes as a high pass filter and VCF2 first processes as a low pass filter before recombining into a mono signal, can you maintain them as separate signals in stereo if you patch VCF 1 and 2 separately straight to VCA 1 and 2? Thx
4:30
1:27:40 ooops, you’ve changed noise highpass, not global detune ;) great video anyway, very useful tips. Cheers!
I need this synth so badly.... :(
Why in the world is the Synth Audio panned to the left?
Great video thanks very much for this. Is there an app available yet for all the Matriarch settings? The main thing that is putting me off getting one of these is not having a good interface to show and change the settings.
Pop your popcorn!
Why no succulents like the clowns on instagram?
what wrong with page by page manual reading?
WOWWWWWWWWW
THANNNNNNNNNKKKKKSSSSS! -_Daniel_
Matriarch or Voyager?
I own the Matriarch and the Grandmother. This keyboard is great for making oddball sounds but trying to use it to make usable sounds like a traditional keyboard it's a pain. This is the type of keyboard you'd have to spend your free time learning and making pre-made patches to one day use. If you're in the middle of a song and need a specific sound to fit your music you won't get far with something like this. It's not like using a DSI or a standard moog where you just adjust the knobs and sliders to suit the sound you're trying to create.
On the Matriarch and it's smaller counterpart the Grandmother you have to go in fine tuning every little detail. It's a real deep dive and it's a struggle to get a "Stable" sound out of this thing. You couldn't play a piano tune and then throw a matriarch sound over it because this thing never lays down a tame enough signal. It always tries to do 100 different things every time you press down a key. Every single video of the Matriarch is usually people using it to make random/quirky sounds because that's what it's best for.
It's unique in that way if that's what you're going for but that's the disappointment of the Matriarch. If you pick this up thinking it's going to be anything like their non modular gear. It is a really really really hard keyboard to tame. You'll be running patch cables all over the place just to get a "basic" usable sound out of it. It's really weird and also unforgiving because if you have one knob off slightly it can go from being in tune to out of tune or out of whack very quickly. So you need to keep track of your knobs and make sure you "draw them down" accurately as you create them.
Pretty much this is not a keyboard for a keyboardist looking for an instrument to jam on that's not the style of this synth. If you cant' tell by that giant sequencer. this is the type of keyboard you sit down with and play with one hand slowly.
I strongly disagree with this comment. I use the Matriarch for “basic, useable” sounds all the time. You don’t need any patch cables for that either. I bought it to use as a mono synth. Sure, it has paraphonic abilities and other bells n whistles, but literally turn one oscillator to whatever wave and play a lead or bass patch. A fat one at that. I know I could have gotten a GM , but I wanted the extras just in case I want to explore deeper “one day”. My idea going in was more like “🤔 four Moog oscillators? yeahhh!!!” I have real polyphonic synths for polyphonic duties.
this is what i imagine acid is like
Hi Clarinet Owl. The pair of stereo analog delays (on ping pong) helps. -_Daniel_
