    After decades of audio, the idea of an "end game" audio anything is a cruel joke.

    • @filipviljamaasvensson
      @filipviljamaasvensson Před 7 měsíci +5

      I'm pretty sure I don't have my end game setup, but I managed to get out of the race. At least for now. What happened is that I switched from streaming to CD, by buying a near high end CD-player to go with my separate DAC. The jump up in general sound quality made me feel like "this is it, this is the sound I wanted, my stereo is done". For reference my whole system including panels is about €8k. But yeah, will see how long this last...

      I feel for me the End Game Speaker is only one I Love. Which I have. Its nothing special to anyone, but me. Early 70’s Sansui SP-55a. Just a Full Range 7” and a New Horn tweeter worth $50, with a new capacitor for each. Im sure I can get better Cabinets made, and Better tweeters, but the Full Range 7” can reach all Frequencies I need for Music. Tweeter fills the top with sparkle. Sure I might want other speakers, but would I Love them? I hope you find your bliss, an it finds you content.

      Try Magnepan likely the only affordable end game speaker that hasn’t changed since Harry Pearson said he could downsize to a Maggie from his 3 state of art systems back at Absolute Sound. Start with LRS even pre owned models then upgrade eventually to the 1.7, if your hard core the 3.7. If you’re an audiophile it totally delivers. With the new bass system available you’ll hv a competitive cost no object system on a budget if that means anything as it would eventually be north of usd 10-15k. Best value would be carefully buying pre owned equipment for any reasonable budget.

    I have the Elysian 4 paired with Hegel H390. I picked them after demo-in the Elysian 2 and similarly-priced and more expensive speakers. The Elysian were effortless, had big bass and created that huge "wall of sound" image. Some other speakers I demoed were: Quadral Montan 9, B&W 702 S2, Canton Reference 5K (those had a similar sound), Focal Sopra (the bass was disappointing), Elac Vela BS 403 (small sound), Elac Adante AS-61 (I liked those, big sound but the bass had issues at loud volume).

      the main problem is brands that have good amplifiers but the cost isn´t for all and when buying already expensive litle amplifiers from this brands they are really bad , no wonder when one hears the cheapest receiver made by Pioneer in the 70´s gets amazed by it´s sound ,this new ones are just horrible ,brands like Hegel, Rotel, ,Arcam alpha or cambridge audio, those maky any speakers sound really bad, i´ve tested them since the 80´s till today ,this because i have a friend who owns a hi-fi store and we test most of the amplifiers we listen in the press that they are incredible , but look at the 70´s pre-amplifier from Yamaha the C-1 ,this to give a notion that tone controls or loudness are there so the sound could be improved ,not all have a studio at home ,where they use pefect processors and equalizers with 40 or more frequencies per channel ,direct listening is okay but it would be very expensive to have a system who could work with great sound in direct listening ,i have a early 60´s or late 50´s tube amplifier with two speaklers but this being also very old but were restored in late 70´s and the amplifier had new tubes installed as the ones they had originally, no need for tone controls allthough i found a phono equalizer that i don´t know the brand but having 7 frequencies and a 3 position switch for each frequency, this before there were diamond tip stylus but already at the time converted to a diamond stylus , this must have great sound so when using a old turntable with less good needles it would sound great and i remenber listening to music with my grand father when having only 12 years old, i´m reading coments where systems are described and i´m thinking how much money each spend in a system that would sound doble the quality with very cheap amplidfiers from more comercial brands ,i have a lot of systems from european brands and they couldn´t survive against the cheaper and well built japanese brands but the sound quality it´s above most of the japaneses brands this compared at the same price range ,i remenber a blaupunkt tower that i wouldn´t buy it for looking at it but when playing and recording i was amazed by it´s sound this with some litle speakers that sounded better than a lot of bigger speakers from well known speakers brands ,it´s only a litle square with two litle iron rods and an marble heavy square where they stand ,if i had not test this blaupunkt tower i wouldn´t belive it´s quality ,also schneider, normende, grundig and philips had hi-fi systems that one can´t imagine how good they sound before listening to it

    Nice honest video as always, you covered this speaker very well. I have the Elysian 4's and use a Felixs Audio Arioso 300B, 8 watt amplifier and have no trouble driving the Elysian 4's with a low powered SET amplifier. I have not noticed them being forward or modern sounding, maybe that's because of the 300B SET, either way, they are a great speaker and I agree with your comments about the mids and upper frequencies, however on the 4's the base is very tight and deep too. I think the 3's are very similar when I heard them in a much more room friendly package and agree they are a very good buy for the money. Quality is second to none, don't care where it is made as long as it is made well, those complaining about foreign products, need to look at quality and costs in their own country. Might have been a good idea to show the other colour options, some one said these were ugly, I hate to think what they think of as beautiful then, to my eyes these are wonder full, mine are the Walnut finish which is just glorious. Please keep producing your great reviews.

    I was excited to hear your thoughts after reviewing these Terry. I wasn't expecting you to say that they have that slight edge to them. Maybe it is like you say because they are in a smaller enclosure. Thomas and Stereo reviewed the Elysian 4's and I got the impression from him that they were too relaxed for him - but he's particularly fond of Focal which kind of puts things in perspective. My own EVO 4.3's took forever to burn in, so maybe with a little longer run-in time the Elysian 3's might lose their "edginess"? Thanks as always for an excellent review!

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Thanks, just to clarify, I think some "edginess" would be different to what I was referring to, I said they have an edge by that I mean they have the knack off keeping you actively listening. Edginess I think would be an indication of some kind of distortion or flaw

    I’m new here, and I bet you guys discuss this a lot, but are there any reviews on here as to what full system to buy each year (as I guess it changes) in each price range?
    I’m currently running a denon AVx3700 with focal stand mount main speakers, focal centre speaker and single focal sub (what can I say - I’m based in France), and tend to play music mostly from a large collection the iPhone (which I don’t feel I can easily shift or match elsewhere), also from a denon Blu-ray player, and from CZcams……and I love that I can switch on and control everything from my TV remote. All come on in one click. I know, I’m a philistine. But I’m in a very bare, rectangular tiled, hard wall and ceiling room, about 8m wide by 4.5m deep and an old house that I don’t want to fill walls with high tech sound control…… and my current set up sounds nice, and can fill the room quite well, but it’s too fatiguing at the top, really misses some liveliness in the mid range and some detail at the lower end, even misses some notes altogether, such as the lower bass line of Floyds “echoes”..
    I’m trying not to get too hooked on the idea of a set of KEF ref3 floor standing, but still love the design of them……. So if I were spending €15k, €20k or €25k…….what should I get? And do I need a streamer to somehow improve my input?
    If you were me, what would you get?

    How you measuring that 6 inch mid-range, are you counting the outer edge of the soound, or the inner edge of the surround, because you should take the inner edge of the surround as the measurement. Need an amplifier that can go down to 2 ohms or better 1.5 ohms to drive 2.3ohms what are you talking about with drum and bass is because you need the amplifier to get down low in its impedance

    Can you comment on the Elysian 3 vs the Elysian 2. To me, the 2 seems like the better choice as the cabinet has heft where it counts and the bass driver is large. Any thoughts on how these two compare?

    i listen to a lot of electronic / drum n bass. I don't think ive ever come across any speaker setup that wouldn't benefit an additional subwoofer for that genre of music.
    I watch a lot of reviews of hifi and you often hear "large / medium / small" when describing room size. how big is a large room exactly? 20sqm?

      You make some great points, acoustically everyones rooms is small that is something to think about. For me a small room is what I have a typical UK small home room dimensions 16ft long 12.5 feet wide and 8 and a bit feet high. Some people here in the UK have much much larger rooms than that I visit all manner of homes in my calibration work.

    I purchased a pair of EVO 4.4s based on multiple reviews I read. These speakers did not move me and I traded them in. These were not solid, did not pass the knock test, I tried to like the AMT but could never loved it. I did not appreciate the fragile mid bass.

      @@PursuitPerfectSystemAgreed, Terry. However, this is becoming increasingly difficult due to the lack of physical retailers meaning that there is an increasing dependency on reviews. That said, a good retailer should offer a returns policy because of the subjective nature of selecting components and how they work with the other parts of the system.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  Před 2 měsíci

      If you lived with these speakers and listened to them everyday for 20 years then for what they cost it’s value for money. What’s happens with cheaper speakers generally is people change them more often as they seek out better speakers that solve the flaws. Value for money is not what something costs it’s how long you own it for and how much you use and enjoy it that time.
