We took this video to demonstrate how you can do an oil change at home and help you save some money. Plus it gives you a nice feeling knowing that you did it right since there are so many not qualified employees at the quick lube places.
We demonstrated on a 2013 Fiat 500 with the 1.4 4 cylinder engine. This is not a Turbo engine. The turbo engine requires Synthetic Oil Only!!! The non turbo takes Conventional, Synthetic Blend, or Synthetic Oil that meets the requirements. You can find the requirements and the capacity in your manual.
Also, we have the video how to RESET the Change Engine Oil Light! Click here to watch: • Change Engine Oil Ligh...
It will be very close procedure for the other engine as well: 0.9 1.2 1.4 and the 1.3 diesel engine.
This procedure should cover:

A trick: watch movies on Flixzone. Been using them for watching lots of of movies recently.
@Brady Kyree Yup, been watching on flixzone} for since november myself =)
@Brady Kyree yea, I've been watching on Flixzone} for since december myself :D

Thank you very much for this video! I just had a place try to charge me more than double for "labor" costs for my oil change. They wanted $130! I will be doing it myself now!
I would charge double cuz it’s a piece of shit when it comes to changing the oil. They didn’t put the filter on top or on bottom. They put it in the most inconvenient place possible
Two observations, having completed the work. Popping the engine cover off only takes a few seconds (and no tools) and releasing the AC line from it's locating mount at the top of the cam belt cover (also w/o tools) is also easy and allows you to move the line aside to more easily extract the filter/cover.
Fantastic video! I just managed to change the oil and filter on my daughter's Fiat. I barely had enough space to navigate in and out, but managed to make the switch without taking 1/2 of the car apart :). Thank you for the great video.
Why have't I thought of cutting the side of a 5 gallon bucket before? That's genius!
Love the simplicity of this car in fact I love simplicity of all cars thank you
hey guys, enjoy the videos and your accent, not much information on fiats out there. Just wanted to add, there is a way to keep from making a mess when removing the filter from the engine. On the plastic filter cover there is the word drain with an arrow. Before unscrewing all the way, let it sit with the arrow pointing down, the longer the better. This lets oil drain from filter cover and filter, when you finally remove it, hardly any oil will drip out.
great info, thanks!
andrew batie Thanks for sharing this!
your welcome charredskeleton
Gosh, you make it look so easy! All the other videos require you to move tubes & wires and even remove the engine cover to get to the oil filter. I love that you went straight in through the front grill/bumper area. 😊
Thanks!
tori2dles Right! I'd have been down there with a box end wrench if I hadn't seen this. ...it might take every extension in my box, but so be it! Harbor freight sells long extensions cheap enough for the person that can't reach by assembling thier current collection.
thanks for posting this..I work on Mercedes Benz, bmw, Rolls-Royce, masserrati..never done an oil change on a fiat , got 1 coming in my shop in a few days..like the angel you took the filter
Looked this up for this vehicle specifically but this is a great oil change instructional video for any car. Just plug in your cars specific tool and hardware sizes. Thanks for the great vid
Great video you guys just saved me 90 dollars, wont go to dealer anymore 👍👍👍👍👍
Excellent video with plenty of warnings and safety tips. Great job!
Just awesome - this vid is perfection: direct, comprehensive, entertaining, properly paced. You guys nailed "Real-Auto TV, International".
Castrol should be bankrolling you, if they aren't already.
I'll make one recommendation.. occasionally zoom in closer to threads.. bolts.. mating surfaces.. even jack points, to emphasize a point or tidbit of info. Otherwise..
Do not change a thing. Thanks!
Thank you for upload this video. I'm from Brazil and mechanics here are usually afraid to do maintenance services on this car ....
Thanks I didn't know where to start on my wife's fiat, this was a helpful guide none the less. Luckily had all the tools laying somewhere in the garage
Easy.I will do my own oil change from now on.Thank you so much.
Good, helpful video. I haven't self-changed the oil on my Fiat 500 yet; so far I've taken it in every time. I had heard that it has an unusual oil filter. I have to say that it has the hardest-to-read dipstick of any car I've owned.
Thanks. That hole near the headlight trick was awesome. I also used a swivel head at the end of the 1/2 extension, but it is not necessary.
just subscribed at 15000 cant wait to see this page grow and keep up the good work
Very concise - no BS! Thanks!
Thanks for the helpful video. may I add that I could only manage to get the filter out of the engine compartment by separating it in the engine compartment.
Great video, thanks for posting, looks super easy! I just bought one of these cars used, will be doing my own service.
Open Roader how many miles did you get it with? and how many now? has it been reliable?
Thanks amigo, your video was very thorough.
Excellent instructional video!
thank you friend for the video I have a 2012 fiat pop edition and you're video helped allot. can you please make a video on how to change Spark plugs and air filter please. thank you and God Bless
Removing the whole air filter housing is very easy and makes getting at the filter housing much easier
Great video! Thank you for the help.
Thank you so much, this video really helped me
Amazing video thanks 🙏🏻
thanks for the video boss, really helpful!!
Never thought of that. NICE!!
very neat and simple ,thanks
Great video!!
Thanks, very helpful
Awesome video
thanks man! good video!
I really like you guys 🙂
Thanks for the
Good Job thanks for sharing 😎✊when you had a chance please let me know what’s level of oil we should put for shift controller 😊
This is the best oil changing video on a fiat I've ever seen. All of the other ones never showed the extension going through the grill. You're a genius. Thanks for posting this. Oughta save me about 25 to 30 dollars to do it myself. Do you have a video on how to do a tune-up on the same car?
At the time of draining the engine oil, you must remove the oil filling cap, as it will allow the air go in the engine to bring out all the old engine oil through its drain plug.
@@rajaz1601 is that safe to let air into the engine?
Hi I have a fiat 500 2012. I’m trying to change my transmission oil however I don’t know how to check the level of the transmission oil? Could you tell me how to check it just to see if it needs to be changed? Also what transmission oil is best for this car? Thank you
there are no videos on how to change the spark plugs for the Fiat 500 can you tell me how to do it
I know you mentioned them in the video, but can you tell me all the sizes and tool you used to remove all the bolts and panels, please. Thank you in advanced! I already have the filter and the oil.
What is the bar going across almost right under the oil plug. Yours looks like it is back of the way. On my 2013 it looks like i need to take this bar off to access the oil plug and i need to know the torque on the bolts to put it back.
Thanks for this video, I’m a mechanic but am too lazy to figure out what sockets I needed 😂😂😂😂
thanks borat!
I have a question...I know is not related to the video, but I believe you have the knowledge to answer :) Is there a way to replace the front grid without removing the bumper? Thank you.
The oil filter should have been removed when the sump plug was out and the oil was being drained at temperature.
Torque wrenches are a great invention.
I did love the cut out in the side of the 5L bucket (very useful) I like that.
I love you.
How much will charge service garage per labour?
Thank you for your help I bought one and love it
Notice how the the bottom valance cover "bolt" hole is thrashed and blown out. Do not use air-tools to re-install the bolts! People that do the latter are "hacks." It also helps to wipe out the sludge from the oil canister. Why put it back dirty?
It's a good idea to grease the bolts holding the engine underpan to the frame so they don't trust in place an snap off later.
Wow I didn't even know you could stick it through near the headlight. Ive been using a swively ass bit and multiple extension lol
how long was the extension that you used in the video ?
JOE FORD DIY 36”
Epic fail design as usual from Italians!! 😂😂😂 They’re great on other design though! Beautiful lines ! 👍👍👌👌
Can I change oil on a 500 1.2 V8 2015 with this video? Thanks.
2:31
I almost shit when my wife told me what the dealership said. Thanks 👍👍👍👍
What did they say?
Don Dressel Probably something like “That’ll be $400 for the oil change”.
Can you not just remove the filter by hand??
I just broke off 3 bolts taking the belly pan off my 500. They started to turn, then-SNAP! Off they broke! What the hell do I do now?
I think your daughters painted your nails haha
Lolzzzzzzz That's all good. My daughter paints mine too. It's all in good fun
When you thought mini was worse
mu car not 27 mm ? maybe 32
I own 17 cars currently and more than 30 in my lifetime. Without a doubt the oil change on the Fiat 500 is the worst oil change of any car I've ever owned. The Fiat "engineers" were complete idiots when they decided to put this engine in the US car without modifications to the drain plug location or oil filter. The drain plug is situated underneath a plastic aero shroud- that requires removal of 6 bolts and it's tough to get it off using a single jack under the car. It's made easier by jacking up both sides of the car in order to access the back bolts. Convenient, huh. Then there's the location of drain plug - it's situated right above a engine cross brace for no good reason except to ensure that the oil from the sump winds up on that crossmember and then runs everywhere else. The oil filter seems like it belongs on a 1935 Fiat- not something from the 21st century.. It's a paper filter in a plastic housing that is damn near inaccessible from the front. Removing it ALWAYS creates a mess with oil dripping down in places you'll never be able to remove. It also requires ridiculous manual dexterity to try to maneuver it out through and opening that is marginally larger than the housing itself. If you don't have dainty hands you will have torn gloves and scratches on your hands (and the housing too!) It helps to remove the filter element before trying to get the plastic housing out, but even so, it's a bitch. One has to force it through the opening in order to get the housing out, so forget about cleanliness, there's going to be subtle damage to the housing each time it's removed, possibly the threads, possibly to the O ring, and grit will get everywhere just trying to get the housing out - or back in. This doesn't bode well for the longevity of the housing or for the likelihood of future oil leaks. Speaking of grit, the threaded aluminum oil filter boss on the engine itself is oriented upward so that any grit that you liberate trying to remove the housing winds up....in your oil. This is an absolutely retarded design and I hesitate to use the word design, because clearly NO THOUGHT WHATSOEVER went into this. Why didn't they just locate the the filter on the bottom of the car and have an opening in the plastic shroud for the drain plug.
Oh, and the filter situation with this car doesn't even hold a candle to an late 60s/early 70s W114 Diesel Mercedes. That filter was almost IMPOSSIBLE to get back on correctly - even MBZ mechanics had problems!
Mechanic with watch and a wrist bracelet? Not safe 🧐and handy?!
Take your watch and ring off before working on any engine!!!
I tried to do this today, man this guy must have small hands. No disrespect.
Why is his nail painted
Why are yours not? If the dude gets the job done and can flash his nails - I think that's his prerogative. I'm impressed.
5:52 I thought he said castor oil, I was like "err..."
Always recycle the old oil
OMG he is wearing a ring, watch and cute wrist straps. So dangerous.
Sounds like crazy Russian hacker a little too much
