First time to do an oil change on my neighbors 2014 Fiat 500L. I have never worked on a Fiat. It was the most difficult oil change i ever did. It's not easy as i thought.
Sorry i did not show how to reset the oil light. It's very easy to do. So here is the procedure.
1. Turn the ignition to ON. Do not start the engine.
2. Slowly press the accelerator pedal all the way down three times within 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
4. Now start the engine and the oil maintenance light will be reset.

I have a few tips for you incase you ever plan on doing this madness ever again. First take off the oil cap before draining it. It helps the flow. 2nd do the filter after you drain it because that will prevent oil from spilling out of the housing, since it retains oil. On some mercedes if you do the filter 1st, you will retain over 1 at of oil in the system. And lastly, loosen the filter from the top by reaching underneath the turbo inlet and placing 27mm on the housing, then in the radiator support there is a hole where you can fit a 1-2 ft extension into. Once its loose enough you can just grab the filter out from the bottom. This eliminates having to take off the turbo inlet which sometimes have a one time use clamp on it. And also those inlets can tear causing a vacuum leak if you take them off and put them on too many times. I enjoyed the video. Loved the fart. Cheers
They dont expect these cars to last long enough to have to change the oil.
lol
😂😂😂
Fiat petrol engines are little masterpieces.
Sad but true. They have MULTIAIR engines on Jeep Cherokee and renegades, Dodge Darts, and Chrysler 200. Both discontinued production.
Ramon Alvarez I was racing this Jeep it was a new one like 2018 or 2019 and her keep cut off we was doing 80 on the street and I have a 2007 Nissan Murano with over 203,000 miles and I won
Happy Mother’s Day!! Stay safe and stay well. God Bless

Happy mother's day to your wife too.
Feliz día de la madre para su familia saludos desde Honduras 🇭🇳👍
Thank you, God bless too..🤙😀
Same to you sir
Well never getting a Fiat, that's for sure. Great video!
Here in Brazil there r a lot of fiat uno's nostrly the old ones, and they r really reliable cars, economic, have a splendit long life u almost never net to go to a mechanic.
Almost every mark has a bad model, ges this is one of then kkkkkkk

Insane what it takes to change the oil on a Fiat 500. I couldn’t even get the drain plug off yesterday. Wound up purchasing a bolt extractor. Today I’m battling with the oil filter. Can’t believe what has to be removed to get it through that narrow space. I finally gave up. Back to it tomorrow after watching a few CZcams videos. Mine is an Abarth. Thanks for the entertaining and certainly patient job in demonstrating your method.
Thank you for a great how to video. I couldn't have done it without your great descriptive step by step. I've been changing oil on cars for over 50 years, and this was the worst I ever done.
i hope i never buy a car this difficult to perform routine maintenance on. thanks for showing us more of your family!
No such thing as a quick oil job on these! Good thing you have so many tools and adaptors, plus genius level ingenuity!✌️
FOR THE LOVE OF PEAT! ACCESS THE FILTER FROM BELOW THE CAR!
Thanks for going through the work of putting this video up, it helped me get somewhat familiar with what's under the bonnet on this car before I worked my used one for the first time.
But can you please amend the video, or pin a comment to the top that indicates to people that rather than dismantling their air filer box and hoses to access the filter from above, as you've done here, that they can simply use the same socket and flex-head wrench to access the filter housing from underneath.
This is a five minute job, and bloody easy.
If you like to change your oil, but the thought of all these extra steps puts you off (it did me) there's incredibly good news for you!
Changing the OIL on this car is easy. It is changing the OIL FILTER that is hard. BITOG has some decent info that suggests that a Fram Ultra filter could easily go 25k miles (or more) between changes. Personally (assuming I'm dumb enough to own this car in the first place) I'd just change the oil every 10k miles and change the filter every 30k miles. A Fumoto oil drain valve with a short clear tube would help the drain as well.
Mannn I would have thrown a fit after seeing the oil drain out like that splashing everywhere lol. Nice job man 🤙🤙
love the silicone paste application, you're taking impressive care in your work.
Angel you have a big family ,and respect
thank you Muran, god bless to you
Do they just not want you to ever change the oil? That's ridiculous!
Ready and he has a turbo
Who would buy that POS car
Transverse engine problems.
@@jorgeguerra6749 millennials and hipsters.
It's a different process, but it takes me only 20 minutes to change my own oil on my 500L. The car is very easy to work on. I've changed oil, pcv valve, and the spark plugs very easily.
I've seen a couple of your videos me and u have something in common I thank the God for blessing me to see another day I always say that every day I get out of bed
YES WE DO!! Have a blessed day brother
@@FixItAngel u do the same
Notorious Italian engineering bro.
Happy Mother's Day to Mrs. Angel! wow all that work for an oil change. They want you to take it to the dealer. Like Scotty says, "garbage on 4 wheels", Fiat.
Tip for anyone looking for help changing their oil on the 500L. Instead of removing everything shown in the video. Ubolt the air box cover and remove
attached hoses, twist the cover upside down and bend it out of the way, with long extensions you’ll be able to reach down remove the oil filter with minimal disassembly. Wobble extensions work best! (2/3 depending on length). These cars are horribly designed but if your looking to save some time try this^
Good to see ur mom. Stay blessed all of you💕
thank you Syed. god bless you brother
Yep I love your old style video without annoying music
thank you Sroor9001
Good job keeping your cool. I would have been cussing up a storm within minutes. The drain plug splash would have been my breaking point.
15:54 Hhhhhh that's small fart 😂
I just saw this clip not to long before scrolling to your comment...lol.
Jajaja
i hear it too ahahaha
Lmao
Its the only way to get small enough to squeeze under there.....gotta "deflate the tire a little" heheheh
Also did anyone else wonder why such a tiny engine needs SO MUCH OIL? 5 quarts!?!?! Most V6's need 5 quarts and most V8's only need 6/6.5 quarts...like WOW.
Blessing, my brother ... I wish you and your family happiness
Hi Monte, thank you for watching, brother. God bless to you and your family.
It's dumb that Fiat design engines that makes it so hard just to change engine oils. Plain stupid design 👎
i agree Nicky, thank you for watching
used to have a hyundai atoz that i think its harder to change oil - thank heavens someone dumb bought it.
And it cost more money 💵 to get the oil change because of that
I didn't know B.J. Penn had such good video editing skills.
i have a 3.6 journey and the oil filter is on top easy to get to, man i was cringing when he tightened that down so tight as the plastic caps are bad to break or the threads on the side of the oil cooler will crack the side open, i just tighten down as tight as i can by hand and then just a bump on the socket, but as i said mine is so easy to do and then check it after running it for a bit for a leak....Angel you are the man, love to watch you work
I'm a new subscriber, and I've been watching ChrisFix and Scotty Kilmer for car repair videos, but damn, Fix It Angel is one hella Pinoy, a badass madapaka baka matapilok!

Changing oil on That car is a nightmare. I would never buy that make or model.
yup!!
No worries. 2020 is last year for FIAT. they weren't selling that many to began with.
Hell yeah! Who approved of this stupid design? I think it needs a paper clip, can opener, stapler & a q tip to complete this job. I’m so disappointed in this junk 😡( but good job changing this retarded oil change)
Nightmare ?!
Euro piece of junk!! All that work for an oil change? I’d just drive it straight to the garbage dump
what a great place to put the oil filter make it as complicated as possible to work on.
You are an excellent mechanic I always take my Peugeot to a local family owned private garage never to a main dealer ship too expensive
I own this car in black. It only takes 20 minutes to change my oil.
You have to get the filter from the bottom. I use a short handle ratchet with 2 degree detents and a 27mm oil filter socket. Once you feel for it and get it on there, you just slowly click away until you can twist it by hand. I use a vacuum pump to get the oil out of the engine, and put the new filter on the plastic cap with a new o-ring and reverse the process. 4 quarts of Pennzoil euro 5w-40 and you're ready to go.
Did I mention it took 4 hours on the first time to figure it out!? It's impossible to do the filter from the top. Don't even try.
How can you say "Its impossible to get the filter from the top" when you just watched this guy do it in 15 minutes?
The way that oil fanned out when you took out the plug 😧😧😧
I have a 2015 model. Think I'll just take it in for the oil change. Wow
You should cnarge this oil change 4x ! Genius engineering !
My grandfather had the same car and it gave transmission problems at 48k miles fiat supposedly "fixed" it came back with the same problem the next day went to Toyota and traded it for Toyota yaris he's happy now.
Great to see a close, and loving family! I will never try and change a fiats oil,and filter. That looked like more trouble then It’s worth.
.......
Maybe make a video of some of the tools you can’t live without. I would love to see that.
thank you for watching. I will try in the future. thank you for watching
4:00 I was like wtf is that... Then you wrote "screwdriver" and I relived instantly..
Kidding, I love your videos dude!!
They have those paper to canister adapters for oil filters and you could throw on an oil relocater. That would make the oil change significantly easier and you'd just be using a regular filter.
Thank you for making this video 😭🙌
The oil filter location is a complete after thought...hey guys we forgot the oil filter!!! mama mia!! NO tony we forgot everything..So Fix It Again Tony!
No it is not an afterthought. In the regular body 500, you can use a swivel ratchet through a space in the headlight to get it off. It's very easy. This car, by design, gives you full-size vehicle room in a subcompact package, so somethings are different. It's wonderful to drive, if not quirky. I perform all of my own maintenance and it takes 20 minutes to change the oil.
ChickenC0re you will do anything to justify the purchase.
@@forc3ofxf3ar51 I don't regret my purchase at all, and if someone doesn't like this car then that is their prerogative. I bought it because I liked it, and not for someone else's opinion.
A couple of friends had those kind of car and dont even hit 120 miles when broke down.
el coyote cojo del desierto Hola más
I hated doing the oil change factory way. I upgraded to a cold air intake and quick release hose clamps. Also I upgraded the oil filter housing to aluminum and no more stripped head because having shops change the oil they rounded the hex head 4 times costing me 40 bucks each time to replace the housing hmm that should be their cost. I also use a powered ratchet. But anyways if you already own one of these thats a time solution and money is time. Suggestion loosen housing don't remove until you drain oil first.. The paste is also was a good tip BTW. As for the dreaded crossbar i just slid a long funnel with wide open end and let the bolt fall no more splashing mess. If anyone wants pics not sure how you can communicate that through CZcams. Or Avoid getting this vehicle bow that they stopped making them for US. I have 2014
You've got a big family. Thanks for the video. We're all learning something new from it.
Wouldn’t it be easier just to put a longer extension on the ratchet to reach the oil filter housing
true. but needs to be a wobble extension. thank you for the comment
Get the filter from the bottom of the car. I don't even have to jack the car up off the ground to do it.
ChickenC0re no way dude!! I got to see that. You don’t need to lift up the car? That’s BS. So how do you drain the oil? Without lifting the car? Lol show me on video to prove it.
@@FixItAngel It's 1am here in GA right now. Let me see what I can do tomorrow.
@@FixItAngel I uploaded how to get the oil filter off. In the video, you can see the hose from the vacuum pump I use to get the oil out of the car.
You did a good job man the only thing with the driveway put down some Speedy dry a rag is no good for that.
Great work! You forgot to reset the service oil on the on-board computer. Thanks you for your videos!
yes you are right. it's in the video description. thank you for watching
This oil filter housing looks like the unholy design from a Chrysler/Dodge drawing board!!😤
It's actually a European design.
they just can't make it simple.
Very notorious for oil consumption.
It is! They merged a while ago
No Chrysler would put it in plain sight but make something about it a complete pain in the ass
Great work, if thats a regular shop they don’t even worried cleaning the under body plastic cover. 5W-40 wow European car always wants to be different from the other manufacturer. Mabuhay!
Thanks for uploading this! You saved me a lot of time researching what I needed to do.
Now all I need to do is find the time to do the work 😎 ….
Went to click the subscribe button. Realized I was already subscribed haha
I would be buying a magnetic screwdriver.
Holy smokes! Those people who complain about Toyota should do a Fiat.
Eating some cheesecake watching some Fix It Angel 😎 👌
thank you brother. enjoy that cheese cake. stay safe and stay well
honest wee man ....all the best from Jonaleeno in United Kingdon Northern Ireland
Thanks, man. I got my mom one, and I was trying to figure out where the oil filter was.
You seem to have an amazing ability to answer my questions just as I’m thinking about them! 😉👍
I have a suggestion for you. In all your videos you are either holding your camera in one hand and using the other to work, or it’s on a tripod. My suggestion is that you get a “mouth mount” for your camera. That way you can hold the camera with your mouth and use both hands to work.
GoPro have a number of options and there are many home made types out there too. Just a thought.
500l made in serbia, nice video
hi Marko, thank you for watching
Dude your video style is the best
Fix it again Tony
Not sure if this would apply to the 500L, but on the 500 there was a hole right by the headlight unit that would yield acess to fit an extension to reach into the oil filter cap.
15:54 DID YOU GUYS HEARD WHAT I HAVE HEARD ????
The Fart! hahaha
Sound like a wet one
yes I heard. It was for u. Did u like it?
yep sure did, I had to play it a couple more times just to hear what I thought.. couldn't stop laughing.. @15;46

Nice job buddy , I see you used the iron palm style to loosen the bolt and forgot to use the crane style to remove it lol.. thank you bro” I enjoy all your videos.. happy Mother’s Day to all and god bless.
lol i have yet to try the crane lol. thank you for watching JOGO. happy mothers day to you. god bless to you and the family

I’m watching your videos, intriguing. I don’t even have a fart.
Another good one nice I love mechanic and your videos been doing my cars only for over 20+ years good job.🤟
great job as always....Pro tip.. use a drill to roll back that shader at the end of the video lol
hi Fotingo, cool i will try that. thank you!!
I'm here a bit late :) Great vid. Saabs are just about as bad with the oil filter placement and draining over the support beam. You can wrap a sheet of aluminum foil around the support beam and shape a crude alleyway for the oil to flow into. It will keep the support clean and run the oil right into the pan :) Liked and subbed!
I appreciate your videos ! Thank you brother! And God bless you and your family always!
Quick and easy
honestly, not so quick and not so easy. thank you for watching
The video made it look easy but hey you got it done.
I love the waterfall effect when the oil runs over the cross member.
Worse design ever
hello good job. I work at Fiat in Brazil. My job at the moment is to test the prototypes on the road. This model is not manufactured here.
hello wellington, wow you must have a cool job. testing prototypes seems like it's so fun. thank you for watching
@@FixItAngel It's pretty cool. I learn every day. Cheers I really like your channel.
bro,it is nothing to be hard for you man.👊
hi Lirong, thank you for watching brother
Cool awning. I need that in front of my shop for sure.
Never ceases to amaze the places they find to hide oil filters
Oh, I see, you need a magnet stick to catch parts. A disabled neighbor drops his key bunch in a street drain coverage , so happy he was I could help fishing it out
that's good of you. stay blessed brother
How r u angel I see you're busy working on cars watching from Los Angeles cali one day I wanna meet you in person have a good day my man take care .
A lot of work for an oil change.. good job
What did Scotty say? Stay away from these cars🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
he is right lol
@@FixItAngel I agreed with him. This car make consumer expensive to pay oil change due to it take long to replace oil filter.
Lol as if fiat was the most complicated brand to service...try to change a light bulb in a renault megane and the you'll see what is necessary to remove from the engine bay just to do that...
@@farmoboy83 They dont know mate. Even in Opel Corsa the front left headlight is so tight with the fusebox the air filter and the battery, it is almost impossible to remove the cap and reach the connector inside to remove the bulb. Plus, many modern cars now have the oil filter in hard to reach areas too, it is not just the Fiat 500. Some cars need special tools to remove specific parts, they do it in purpose in order to force you to go to authorized stealers
I never considered buying a fiat, now I know I will never buy a fiat. Thank you ANGEL for all the hard work you do!🤙
You need longer extensions
Should get yourself a suction oil extractor save you having to crawling under the car, have been using one for the last 10 years best tool I ever bought, enjoying the videos here in Dublin Ireland.
hi vincent. thats a great idea. i will look for one. thank you
Thanks Vincent, I just bought a basic suction oil extractor online for $AU20. I have changed the oil on other cars previously (and other mechanical tasks even pre-internet), but now don't have a garage. Your way is much quicker and safer for me doing it in my apartment block's outdoor carpark. Then, I just have to tackle the oil filter. I'm hoping that my small (female) hands may be an advantage. As I only have a basic tool kit, I will do it through the front hole near the headlight.
Thank goodness for the internet, CZcams, yourself and Fix it Angel.

Skid plate aka fuel economy plate 🤙😩😆 gotta love em 😫😫
Angel good work again, and that filter is somewhat complicated its location, and I think I heard something in the video in the minute 15:54, is it I imagine? or not., 😊🙈 and you have a very nice family congratulations and blessings for all of you 🙏, greetings from Mexico !!
Hello Carlangas, you heard the right. I farted. it's normal in my housed. we eat a lot of vegetables. LOL God Bless you and the family. stay safe and stay well
15:54 that’s how I feel about that car.
lol
Just like VW/Audi cars don’t you luv the tight spaces
Their junk
Made this way harder than it needed to be. Use an extension to loosen cap from top then reach hand in from bottom to take filter out and replace. 15 min job.
Fixed Again, Tony! Car.
This sums up what owning one of these vehicles is like. Something as basic as the oil filter turns into an all day event. Let me give another example. To access one of the coolant ports- you need to unbolt and remove the engine cover... then you need to go out and buy all the adapters and such to hook into it... because instead of some good ol' 134a - this "car" takes 1234YF coolant...
Great video..your family is very beautiful and happy. I wish you happiness always
Great video. I ended up taking mine to a shop. I didn’t have all the tools. Just wondering if your check engine light came on after a day or two after the change? I also used an STP filter and my check light came on. I had the shop redo the oil and swapped the filter with a MOPAR filter and had no issues after.
God bless you good working man. That's kinda crappy design.
If you went to one of those fast lube places...would they even do an oil change on this thing? Always enjoy your videos.
thank you Pedro
Stock is junk upgrade it tune it and it becomes a tad better. But for oil change I knew it was a long job so I upgraded the intake to k&n intake. And oil cover to all aluminum no plastic to strip. Very easy to remove for oil change afterwards. I have the 14 since modified in 2016 zero issues. And a smooth ride still hate the electric steering.
You gotta love the engineering in Fiats🤣
