  • A full step-by-step tutorial on doing an oil change on a 2015 Fiat 500. This process should apply to all 500 models with some minor differences.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In this video, I show using a wobble extension in order to reach the oil filter. This is not the best way to do it. There is a gap between the bumper that allows you to fit a straight long socket directly through and to then undo the filter housing. This is safer as it would prevent the potential for stripping out the plastic on the filter housing. Doing it the way that is show in the video will work, but you need to be extra careful.
    Tools Needed:
    10mm, 13mm, & 27mm sockets
    Ratchet (3/8 & 1/2)
Torque Wrench (20 ft-lbs on filter housing and drain plug)
    New Oil Filter
    4 Qts 5w-30 Oil
    Various extensions and wobbles
    Products Used In Video:
    Oil Filter: amzn.to/3xNoK8h
    27mm Socket for Fiat: amzn.to/4aQ2CZp
    Tools Used:

There’s a hole to feed the extension through so that you can get straight to the oil filter cover.

New to European cars, Fiat 500, 2012. You might warn that it would be a good idea to use a 6 point socket. On mine the oil filter is easier to access if the plastic cover is removed. Good video, thanks.

As a Fiat owner I feel like everyone should know how to change the oil because apparently it's next to a possible for anyone to actually change it

It’s just physically difficult. If you don’t have some relatively unconventional tools (wobbles, extensions, etc), you need to either buy them or get someone else to do it forever.

Just a note to help people out who change their own oil. What works really good for draining your oil into, is a couple used laundry detergent bottles. It's handy, and convenient when you have to take your used oil to be recycled.

The oil level shows lower on the ramps because you hadn't started the engine yet. After you started it and backed it off thr ramps some of the oil fills the filter housing and is held in the filter medium. This probably why you don’t see it happen when you prefilled filters on other cars.

Tip for the oil getting all over the cross member just cut a bottles bottom off and a hole bit enough for drain and a magnet above it and slip in on (this is the only reason i can think of that NO ONE will get this cars oil changed)

Thanks, was wondering if I had to take pan cover off to get to drain plug is what brought me here. Going to try not to, have wide oil for mess. Neck is fused together at C1 & 2 from broken spine, can't be under car long. I love my long 2 piece Eastwood ramps never move, wide, strong & come apart for side access.Always save money, to buy more toys! Good job I can take it from there. Thanks again !

    @jorged0712 Před rokem

Brother, there’s a hole on the top of the bumper so you can directly reach the filter housing with a long extension without the use of Wobblies. Wobbly slips on that plastic housing and strips it, you’ll need a new one. If you’re gonna do something, especially making a video about how to do something, do it 100% right.
