Without that little bit of effort the only folklore that comes to mind is Midas-though Midas was actually sitting on something, a pile of gold, he might have shared. All we know about you is that IF you have the knowledge you claim to have, you are as stingy as Midas in not sharing that!
I just thought I would share that little bit to stimulate your studies in a new direction and perhaps towards a new and better end-perhaps that form of sharing we call “teaching.” Bye.

In wine is truth ~Meaning ~
"When I'm drinking, I speak my mind."
    Johnny Ringo: "Age Quod Agis."

"Events are the teachers of fools." ~Meaning~ "Fools have to learn by experience."

What u explain is kind of what I was thinking : Johnny Ringo is saying that he, the youth, will be the teacher of fools (Doc Holiday), and the Doc threatens, "It's your funeral" (Rest In Peace). The look in Johnny Ringo's eyes and face, and the pistol play, is meant as a rebuttal to frighten Doc. Then Doc de-escalates the situation by mimicking Johnny Ringo with a cup and making the onlookers laugh at Johnny Ringo.

Latin was definitely taught in schools back then and especially to children getting a Catholic education, My father was born in 1910 and he spoke Latin fluently - as he was taught in school and as a Vatican I Catholic. It was not uncommon back then at all. Latin was still offered in school up into the late 1970s, early 1980s in some regions in the U.S. I think it's made a comeback in recent years but, for a long time, it was rare for anyone not studying medicine or law to take it.

I am no expert in Latin, but I have studied it. I think there are some problems with this dialog.
    In vino veritas.
    Age quod agis.
    Credit Judaeus Apella, non ego.
    Iuventus stultorum magister.
    In pace requiescat.
The translation is provided by Donald H. Mills of Syracuse University and Keyne Cheshire of UNC.
    In wine there is truth.
    Do what you do.
Let Apella the jew believe, not I.
Youth is the teacher of fools.
    May he rest in peace.
    In explanation,
Line 1: Although Wyatt tries to excuse Doc's aggressive attitude with "He's drunk", Doc assures Ringo that he means what he says despite being drunk.
Line 2: This seems intentionally ambiguous. Ringo is telling Doc to do what he does, perhaps challenging him with "Are you a drunk, or a gun fighter?" Something like "Go for it!", or "Throw down!".
Line 3: Doc responds with a well known line from a satire by an ancient Roman writer, Horace, which literally means "Appella the Jew believes, but I don't", (the "let") is inserted in the translation. Figuratively, this phrase means "Tell it to someone else." Perhaps Doc is saying "You draw your gun first" or "stop talking and draw your gun" or "I don't care what your saying, let's just fight."
Line 4: I don't believe that Ringo is using this line the way it was meant to be used by a Latin speaker. I think he means something like "I, as a young man, will teach you, the fool." However, I think it would more likely be taken to mean that "a young person is a fool that needs to be taught by experience." You can see how the English translation might be taken either way, but seems unlikely to me to be meant the way Ringo used it in this context.
Line 5: There is no word for funeral in this line as some suggest below. "It's your funeral" is an entirely figurative translation. Nor does it mean "Let him rest in peace". Instead, it means literally "He rests in peace." I have to ask "whom are they talking about?" "Who is 'He'?" I am no expert, but I think it was a mistake by the writers. I think the writers of the script meant Doc to be telling Ringo to rest in peace, as if it were a foregone conclusion that Ringo will die, so he is already dead. If Doc were saying this, he would have said "requiesce" not "requiescat".

@@m-catparanormalresearch5569 I'm assuming when you ask about Ringo's dialogue if he misspoke, you're talking about his line "Age quod agis?" The direct translation is Do what you do or come as you are in the old and modern latin, however its meant as a turn of phrase.
So when he says that he's
      1. Referencing Doc's line (In Vino Veritas) and
      2. him both being drunk and being a drunkard, essentially saying "Do what you do best" which Ringo states is drinking and nothing more.
This makes Doc's line even bolder as his is basically saying "We both know drinking is not what i do best" hinting at the fact that since Ringo knows him well enough to know his name like that, then he obviously knows his reputation.
Ringo then says his line (essentially saying Events are the teacher of fools) which can be read as him saying "If you wanna learn the hard way, so be it!"
Which leads the the final line uttered by Holliday (Rest in Peace) basically saying, as you stated, "Its your funeral!"

Another reason I loved the latin-speaking theme in this movie is that it bolsters the writings of Louis L'Amour. L'Amour pointed out in several of his novels, that a fair percentage of men in the old west were very well-educated. "Doc" Holliday was one. He had a certification in dentistry and education in studies of classic literature. I dumb person could not have achieved this. This perspective gives the lie to movies like Blazing Saddles wherein western settlers were portrayed as ignorant buffoons, by and large.
BTW: "Doc" Holliday was a brilliant card player, lightning with a gun, and totally fearless, according to Wyatt Earp, and he would know!

Nothing intended to be historical or truthful, completely different genre. The comparison here is nonsensical. Your point would make sense if you referenced a movie that tried to be accurate and dramatic but failed because of the stereotypes and not reference a movie that intentionally bloated the stereotypes to support the farcical comedy it was intended to be.

Val kilmer was so robbed not winning an oscar for this. His performance is flawless & he makes the movie. A friend of mine saw the film & loved doc so much he bought a t shirt of val as doc w/ " I'm ur huckleberry " written on it. Other than al pacino as micheal corleone & heath ledger as the joker I've never seen a more mesmerizing performance where the actor totally emerges himself in the character.
Also micheal biehn as ringo was terrific in this as well. I did not even realize at first he was reese in terminator. I guess his dark hair & dark facial hair & also getting so into the role I did not recognize him til the credits.

The fact that's it's unexpected for a western outlaw to know Latin I think was sort of the point of showung Ringo speaking Latin.

Doc's Latin quote "Rest in Peace" is foreshadowing events to come for Johnny Ringo...that's why Johnny Ringo looked at him the way he did...he know it wasn't for show, since no one but the two of them understood what was being said.

The Royal Spanish Academy is the official royal institution responsible for overseeing the Spanish language. It is based in Madrid, Spain, but is affiliated with national language academies in 22 other hispanophones countries.
