I don't think Dave is remembering right. I remember when Cena was The Prototype and Meltzer used to talk about him like he was the second coming. He once said there was more money in Cena than Brock and everyone thought he was nuts. He used to talk Cena up like nobody's business. I think he did say he was a future franchise player. I just remember Meltzer being very big on John Cena and I don't think he's giving himself enough credit here.

First PPV I ever watched. 10 years old. Got my dad to order it for me because I thought my hometown hero Chris Benoit was going to win the championship. Not to long after, right before backlash 04 I believe Chris got a key to the city in Edmonton Alberta. I was there, it was awesome, got a picture with my hero that day. 3 years later, my hero killed his fucking family.
True sting after 94 wasn't really main event. Then after starrcade 97 he wasn't the same. Cena from 04 to 07 pushed merchandise like crazy. Sting never brought Vader and cactus to the main event. Cena helped edge, Orton, punk, and styles all get that main event status at a WWE level. Since punk was main event in roh and styles was in njpw

I still to this day believe the Benoit tragedy was brought on by severe depression, not concussions and dementia. Like Dave says on this video he lost like three of his best friends not just from wrestling but in life around that time, plus a piece of evidence found on his property during the investigation that people just seem to forget about the diary to Eddie Guerrero. It really took you into the mind of a man depressed. What happened to make him want to kill his wife ans son though I wish we could know. There are still a lot of questions about those events but unfortunately there is no question he's the one who committed those acts.
David Hadley dementia patients get violent even if they have never been violent in their lives. Difference is most dementia patients r frail n not 230 pounds.
I think the answer is all of the above. There have been tons of suicides and even some murders from NFL and NHL players (people forget javon belcher) . I also know his marriage wasn't doing great either. I don't believe something like this has one cause and severe dementia and concussions worsen depression.

Some of the things he says about Cena is fair enough, but to say that things like him not selling big moves is the character not Cena as a person I don't think is true. Pretty sure the bookers don't tell him to make a come-back two seconds after a move that would have kept anyone else down for a good 20-30 seconds. Its either that Cena at times didn't sell or that his selling was just poor. In which case he could have taken steps to improve that. Towards the end he probably did.

I dont think anyone thought Benoit would do what he did. You just never know. Obviously I would never want it to happen but you cant say that we will never see this again

Not sure what the host is on about saying that the Cena-Show match was great? It was a fine opener, nicely booked and it did the job, but there wasn't anything great about it.
It was hard to listen to the Eddie-Benoit comments. Think he went on a bit much about that and I don't think he should have speculated as much as he did. Think it was a bit in poor taste.

Eddie Guerrero was better in wcw. I didn't like Eddie as a worker once he bulked up. I liked Eddie when he was pudgy then skinny in wcw and when he was Latino heat in the wwf. And neither one of those guys ever had to win a world title to be remembered. Some of the greatest stars of all time Mr. Perfect and a bunch of other guys never held the wwf title.
And Austin stuns them both.
Thank God Meltzer can write....he sure struggles to talk.
I think he is really having trouble walking a line between saying he is great publically and shitty privately.
