- Minecraft Bedrock Edition has seen many servers in its time, like The Hive, Cubecraft, and the topic of this video, BrokenLens. However, due to recent financial troubles with the server, and the fact that it was never able to become a Minecraft featured server, it has decided to close its doors. Being a server that dropped right around the time that Minecraft Pocket Edition switched to Windows 10 Edition, it's had quite the storied history, being the most popular MCPE server at some points, having cross play with Minecraft Java Edition, and also dealing with things like hackers in skywars and murder mystery. In this video, I talk about the shutdown of BrokenLens, why BrokenLens shut down, and what it means for the Minecraft Community as a whole. I also get the thoughts of @JburrowPlays, who was a BrokenLens player in the past. All of this commentary, over some Minecraft RTX shader cinematics and some BrokenLens Skywars, Mob wars, and Murder Mystery gameplay.

@@cloaksey. not so bad and they support older version which wasn't that laggy atleast. Also it was really optimised since it was only for PE and didn't need to manage bedrock simultaneously(not sure if that changed)
Brokenlens will always be the best server I played on (sentimentally speaking) back when it was working properly. You explained it well and I even learned some things from this video. Good stuff!

Yeah good times with the brooklyn server but when i sighed in minecraft i chanced to hive cause it had more stuff like kits tnt but brooklyn is the first server played and seeing it shut down its sad
I love how BrokenLens stuck to its PE roots and never changed to fit in with how Bedrock servers generally are now. It was probably the only server that still felt like I was playing PE in 2016.

This was the first server I ever joined back when I was 10-11. I made so many friends there it was so much fun. Now I’m 17 and wanted to go back and play last night at 4am cuz I was bored only to find out that it’s gone forever…Such good memories

@fear. Pixel paradise sucks, the only "good" thing on there would be the prisons and the other gamemodes have SO MANY hackers, and the only reason its semi-popular is cause its a featured server, no other reason

Minecraft need to start allowing these servers to be featured servers, Microsoft and Mojang can easily give the greenlight to these servers and make them featured instead of crap like pixel paradise.

I have been in Brokenlens for 4 Years and I have spent the final minutes there... goodbye Brokenlens.
I remember brokenlens. You were able to play that server without signing in.
Never played in the server but it's sad that one of the most well-known servers and possibly once played by children who now grew into adults are now gone and will never be played again :(

BrokenLens was a rather fun network..I always used to play it from 2015 through to 2017. The experience was great at the time, and the only place you'd be able to find games like BlockParty, Quake, and Murder Mystery. The community was amazing, everyone was really friendly for the most part, and it was great to be a part of it. Also banning JBurrow because he was advertising, but we just laugh that off nowadays.
As you mentioned about my post in the video regarding management and moderation, there was moderation, but not really a lot of it. Gabriel hand picked the members who he thought would be a great addition to the team, and a lot of Bedrock players were still getting used to reporting players and finding cheaters. Myself and ssunsett (now a CubeCraft moderator) were both part of BrokenLens, both as a Trial moderator, Mod and Admin for a brief period of time. We enjoyed our time, made so many friends, but did noticed a lack of leadership within the internal side of the network.
Gabriel, Flowing media (wasn't active much community wise), and a former admin Edwjusti, were the main and only developers on BrokenLens at the time up to 2019 before Edwjusti decided to leave. That left Gabriel to develop all of these minigames and manage a big team of builders, admins and trial/moderators, as well as the overall infrastructure of the network.
I can understand he had a passion for what he had created, a passion that usually dries up for most server owners as time goes on. Gabriel did amazing when it came to how enthusiastic he was about BrokenLens, how he interacted with the community and how he even funded the network out of his own pocket for a brief while before the shutdown.
Bugs were not too bad, but over time did start to show and get worse. There are certain requirements that need to be met to become a featured server, including some things that BrokenLens had already implemented, but also some it didn't. Due to Microsoft's stance on privacy and security, features would have had to be removed, certain games would have had to be changed (but I can't go into detail about this), and management restructured so that there would be a rather simple yet easy way for players to get more involved and contribute.
I'm sad to see the server has closed its doors for the final time, but also looking forwards at what might be to come within the features server programme.
Broken lens literally introduced me to all my close online friends. Its where i went to forget about my problems. It had MANY problems but was still the best minigame server on bedrock for me. I played one in the chamber mostly and it was so much fun. I even won 15 dollars in a tournament made by broken lens players. But its sad how its fallen. The most satisfying thing is 1v3ing teamers in one in the chamber and winning. Gg
Yeah man, doesn't have the best kb reg and all of that but brokenlens was the reason i got into pvp. Brokenlens will always hold a special place in my heart. Btw i think we played skywars way back then considering i recognize the lama prob ur username
I still remember playing on Brokenlens on an old account name (back when microsoft accounts weren’t needed to play on servers). Seeing this on my recommended brought back those memories of Hide n Seek and Murder Mystery, where I was good at it and had some custom stuff onto me. Kinda sad it has to go down, but at least it was good back in the day.
it is really sad to see this type of stuff, i personally joined the server at the very last few days of it still being on and sure enough, i didnt see many players playing the games that i was interested in. they had a huge variety of stuff but i cannot imagine how hard it would be to maintain the server with so much stuff especially if you're not supported and featured by minecraft themselves. rip broken lens.

I've been an old player on brokenlens server and it was my first server I've ever joined and had a lot of memories there and this server. Bl made all of us memories that we cannot forget. this server was one of the best servers here.

I remeber back in 2019 when I was bored of playing on featured servers and decided to find a server on server lists, so I got to know about BrokenLens and had fun playing on it.

When I didn't have a Microsoft account, I played BrokenLens. I liked playing games like build battle and murder mystery.
Brokenlens was one of my "play after school" servers. Like LBSG and InPVP, this server was one of the best back in 2016
I really loved the og days playing brokenlens skywars. brokenlens will always have a place in my heart

As an occasional player on BrokenLens (due to school stuff), I saw the decline of players over time.
And I thought that this server will be gone any time soon, and here we are.

Well that's unfortunate :/ I remember playing on this server back when it first came out in 2016, Though it wasn't a pleasant experience since barely any of the games ran properly (SG was especially terrible), I didn't keep up with it past that point either so idk how good it really got.
But still... It's always sad to see some of the OG servers vanish, Especially ones that were as well known as BrokenLens was.
I remember playing BrokenLens, I forgot the title of my favorite one, where you would have to stand on a color to not fall into the void. I stopped playing due to some login issues but when you said "BrokenLens" it gave me some lost memories.

I'm just damn too late to know one of my fav bedrock servers to shutdown. Brokenlens was my all time fav bedrock server back when I don't have a pc and only dreamt of playing hivemc and hypixel. Playing on this server was a blast of fun for me, made lots of friends back in 2017 and for the rest of the summer months even spanning to november, I played nonstop on it. The hide and seek maps are straight up from hivemc's which was a dream come true for me back then, then murder mystery, tnt run ohh what a good old days. Sad to see it go along with hive java which just shut down just last april 2021

BrokenLens was the best server in pocket edition back in 2016-2018 I always played it on my ipad . doesn't matter if I have 2-6 fps on the lobby I still played it , once I heard of broken lens shut downed me and my brother broke down since we always played Skywars duos and spleef it's just so sad this happened ;(

This is actually pretty sad cuz Microsoft is fine with things like pixel paradise being featured and on certain platforms trying to connect to a new server that wasn’t part of the featured list is extremely hard and time consuming.

I've played BRLNS long time and few months ago and played every gamemode and it was fun. I really do wish that I could play it again in the future but the time is limitless and temporarily. The only thing thing that is permanent is the cycle of the universe

BrokenLens was the server that inspired me to have Java-styled servers to NetherGames, HyperLands, 2b2t and GommeHD.

as a ex-hive main on java, i can relate to this even though i havent played on brokenlens
I have no experience with Brokenlens, even though I used to play pocket edition a lot. Instead, I spent my time on a server called Avengetech. I don't know where it is now, but back in the good old days, I had lots of fun in the free for all pvp mode, and the lobby had many chill players, and even a noteblock. The only thing which even comes close to the chaotic pvp experience of avengetech is cubecraft's battle arena, which I have to admit, is really fun, I'd say it's as fun as avengetech's FFA! But I will always hold a special place in my heart for these kinds of OG mcpe servers, where people played because they found the server through friends or searching online, rather than being spoon-fed microsoft-sanctioned servers.
