Mike, I really appreciate your definition of meal prep. It's more akin to restaurant style and how I prefer to do it -- prep some ingredients, sauces, or flavor bases and then use them to bring meals together faster when it's time to eat throughout the week. Would really love more of that kind of content. Thanks for redefining meal prep to not mean 21 bowls of the same slop in the fridge.
i really appreciate that hes an avid biden supporter which both are working to save the 2SLGBTQIA+ and BIPOC community from republican tyranny.
Definitely agree with this. Live these meal prep videos.
I would love future content on all the decision making that needs to happen in order to execute this. Before the video started, there had to have been a bunch of decisions to make about what dishes to make, and also what ingredients to have on hand. Do you wake up in the morning, look at the fridge and pantry, and decide? Do you decide the night before? Did you do a grocery run a few days earlier aimed to ensure you would have a fully stocked kitchen for this? I would love a deeper dive into what it takes to be able to walk into the kitchen and know what you are about to do.
fully agree, id also love to see a video about this
i am so bad at planning my meals ahead of time bc i get overwhelmed by the amount of choices that involves. and without a planning phase, the prep phase ends up taking way longer than it needs to. or ill forget a crucial step/ingredient bc im trying to do every phase at the same time
this is exactly what I need
This I would be very interested in that too. Your system so to speak
yep - planning help is what i need.
There is less planning as you might think. He is not planning this out the night before. He has seasonal food that can be combined to make meals. He had blueberries bevause their in season, so ... pancakes with bb. Chicken. Spices. A kick ass garden. And viola. A meal.
People sometimes ask me, what are you having for dinner? My answer? Beats me. I'll figure it out when I get in there. It's why he says he's going to the fridge on a, what was it, a scavenger hunt.
Having dinner 90% done before breakfast is so amazing. I don’t know why I don’t do it everyday.
Mike, this is what we need. A person who is busy, not a lot of time for prepping but can donate "some" time to getting ahead of the game. This is a perfect video. Thank you.
Hey fellow morning person! I would love to see more variations of this meal prep routine. Really enjoyed the video!
It starts in your kitchen. 👍
The voiceover format is so relaxing and lovely to watch. Your content just gets better and better and better.
As a cooking instructor,
I wish all food influencers would set a good example and rinse their produce before chopping it. As already mentioned, it was also obvious he did not wash the raw chicken off his hands before touching other things. I see so many of my students do this and I do correct them. But when they see food influencers not stick to good hygiene, they receive conflicting messages. These extra steps take time, but they are the right thing to do. My comment is not intending to take away from the fantastic content you put out. I am an avid follower! 😊
Thank you, Elaine, for addressing this. I also noticed this (plus adding the hot stir fry to a thin-plastic container) and it rubbed me the wrong way. Even though I love everything else from him...
yess! the food can be delicious but it will not be safe to wat if you don't follow basic hygiene rules
if your students do not understand that the food videos they watch are 1) edited to remove boring parts and 2) self-filmed, meaning the creator has to manually set up a tripod for each shot, those are probably concepts you should introduce to them.
i never for a single moment assumed this guy would set up an entire separate shot of his sink just to capture a hand washing shot, there is a clear cut between the overhead shot of him touching the chicken and the side view shot of flipping the pancakes.
@@mere0 the thing is not that he needs to show that he washes hands, but if you notice when he puts the chicken in the pan, it is not edited and he touches to stove with the same hand. we all know chicken is one of the few things that is bery dangerous raw :) we can only assume that everytime he touches the knob after that, he doesn't wash his hand afterwards, like because the knob is contaminated even if he washes his hands after that one shot
Stop babying your immune system
I just realized that I probably never commented under your videos. Which is a pitty, since you pretty much taught me how to cook. Thanks you so much for the years of amazing content 🙏
WOULD LOVE a full series of these!!! Even if many dishes are repetitive, it’s that insight into versatility that rly builds the home cook muscles imo so this is super helpful
And you’ve got my dream garden!! 😍
Your prep videos have helped me a lot.
Also, don't sleep on cauliflower leaves! Don't throw them away - cut away the meaty part, sprinkle the green leaves with some olive oil and chili pepper powder, and roast them together with the cauliflower. Once dry, they are very tasty
Thanks!
Kale's pretty good too, made that way
Hard co-sign on roasted cauliflower leaves. I’ll often throw them in the oven while cooking a cauliflower bolognese pasta, and have them as a little pre-dinner snack.
Mike, we require this. a person who is busy and has little spare time for preparation but can devote "some" time to being proactive. This video is flawless. I'm grateful.
Love people who show reality about life with kids and real cooking process. This channel is my win win!
These are my favorite types of videos from Mike. I mean the other stuff is fun (like the TikTok recipes), but as mom of 3 younglings, I've literally watched this 3 times.
As a relatively recent father, your meal prep vids have been a godsend. Before I had learned how to follow recipes, you taught me to cook! =)
Roasted vegetables are the best! You can also take the cauliflower stems and leaves, chop in 1 inch pieces, drizzle with oil and your choice of spices and roast them as well, ( if you dont care for any burnt pieces, remove the leaves earlier than the rest). I realized that I had been throwing some much delicious edible food away for years. I hope this idea helps someone! Have an awesome day!
This is manageable and realistic meal prep for a family. Please do more videos
He’s a professional people-he knows about hand washing.
Still touched a lot of stuff with chicken on his hands, like the hub setting and out the knife on the table so yeah.
@@jo_magpie so yeah. so what? you dont know how he films and edits videos at all, youre looking at the final presentation, so shut it.
@@throwthefish7803It was in a single shot.
Most people do. It's called editing.
Please show yourself washing your hands after the chicken even if it’s just in the voice over. Otherwise it is modelling bad habits
I'm in, man! This just blew my mind because the simplicity is right there in front of my face: prep as much as you can in the morning! Why am I not doing this! Thanks so much for the great, healthy options to include the kiddos as well. I hope you are doing a series just like this format, because I think it is genius and, like I said, I'm in. But if you don't, I'm just gonna watch this a million times because it completely inspires me. Thanks!
FINALLY an influencer turned PARENT! Yeah, in B.C. times (before children), I could accomplish anything. All the time in the world. Cook all day? Yes, please! 😁 Enter kiddos…..I can barely do anything! Loved this paired down, make it good on the fly for busy parents video! 👏👏👏
I've started making chicken salads daily thanks to Mike! I love how creative and fresh they're able to be as well as great for you. Thank you so much for the inspiration and knowledge over so many years. Your content has helped nurture my passion for great home made food. Again, thank you.
As always, I can't imagine how much time it takes to edit these together with all the different points of view!! Kudos!
Hello Mike, just a quick line, thank you for giving me back my mojo to get back into the kitchen and prepping again. I'd gotten into a bit of a funk and lazy to boot. So your 'freestyle' approach has been just the inspiration to get back to enjoying doing good healthy food. Thanks and kindest regards from Bonnie Scotland!
This was amazing! Very inspiring, thank you, With ADHD I can only aspire to this degree of organisation and clarity, but a girl can dream :).
I have to say the lack of any visible handwashing after handling raw chicken did my head in! Especially the shot where he clearly touched the knob on his cooker afterwards.
never seems to wash a veggie?
Id love to have some details on prepping food and storing them in freezer. Im always wondering how long I can keep and best ways to freeze them. Ideally, I plan for familly meals. Might be some content idea! thanks for your work!
theres been a bunch of questions on freezing food actually so I might have to dive into a video soon!
Would love to see more on your garden and how it is set up!!!
Good job. Same thing I do -- don't waste time unwrapping, just cut through it and peel off the wrapping after.
youre cooking intuition is so on point. This does not surprise me, but I've noticed my own cooking intuition getting better recently as I keep practicing. It's very satisfying to "feel like" the chicken is ready and then flip it to see it's cooked beautifully.
I love love love using the same pan over and over!! Mine today was also carbon steel. Sauteed veggies for tomorrow, home fries with onions and what not, then scrambled eggs with 3 cheeses (the latter 2 were breakfast for dinner). Carbon steel needs only a wipe-out between dishes, if that. Highly recommend!
The trickiest part for me is planning the meals ahead of time and do the grocery shopping. Have to make calculations on spillover or leave fresh stuff for after else it will get bad soon
Definitely make more of these videos! Great information and tips!
What a beautiful garden you have!
More of these, this is amazing for parents!
Fantastic!
This is my favorite style of meal prep, mix and match
i absolutely LOVE these videos, thank you for all the inspiration and motivation!!! 💖
i love these videos, inspiring, getting ideas of how i do food prep week after week
The best of the chefs out there Love your efficiency
Great video. Very relaxing/relaxed vibe. Love the garden and composting.
meal prepping for the day is so smart 🤯 thank you for introducing this to me!!
Really liked this style of video. Hope you do more of these.
I throughly enjoyed this video and how efficient this is ☺️
This video was SO helpful btw- love this format, and would love to see more sort of off the cuff daily meal preps like this
This is the kind of content I really like to see. Day to day food prepping. I’m always doing a rolling prep. What I can when I can. Thank you for the video.
Man, I really loved the vibe of this video. For some reason, it was do relaxing to watch
Love this style of cooking! I pretty much cook every other day, and this is perfect. I’d love to see more videos like this one.
Love it, as usual. Will be so useful this week.
More of this please!!
This is a better fit to my life. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the splatter guard !!!!! I needed this my whole life I just didn't know it ! 👍🙌
wow
now this kind of format is really an useful one
ty so much for such an exciting prep-organising content❤
I just realized how much I love and value this channel and the work and effort invested in producing this content. More power ❤
Laughter is brightest where food is best.
This was so nice to watch. I'm inspired, thanks for sharing.
what a gorgeous garden :) you inspire me with every video my dude
More videos like this please! My family will eat the Pancakes but not the last 2 (I would though!). Options for picky eaters would be amazing!
Your sense of fashion is quite inspiring. I could never pull it off.
Just tried the banana pancakes - delicious! Thanks for that idea!
You’re so lucky you can have a nice garden and just get fresh food from there. I like these easy meal prep videos
Love this meal prep video! It’s inspiring to a fellow meal prepper looking to save time! ✌🏻
Amazing kitchen and garden. Would love to have that much space and fresh ingredients to cook with. Also that splatter guard is definitely what I need. My stove is usually an oily mess
I love what you did with your lettuce and argula raised beds! Clever idea.
These tips are great because I have two kids under 5 and it's hard to meal prep and plan. Great tips.
I really would love to see more of this videos! 👏 It is exactly my situation in the moment. Two kids, less time and don't wanne serve fishfinger every day 😅.
Inspired by your videos, we now have an air fryer in the kitchen.
Thanks for your inspiration.
Yes!! Love this! It really helps someone with lots of mouths to feed and little time!! Thank you! Now I just need like seven more days of meal preps like this 😂 seriously, I would love more videos like this ❤ thank you for the content
That was a really good video. Just wake up early and cook all three meals. Simple yet brilliant. I am interested in that pan you are using as well. It looks like a good purchase.
You can double the rice and freeze whatever you have left!! It warms amazingly from the freezer better than leftover rice from the fridge!!!!
Real life cooking, love it.
one of your best videos yet, absolutely love it!
extremely relatable
Great stuff, as always, Mike. And of course I had to buy the carbon steel pan.
YOU ARE A KING
Not sure if you have done it before, but i really like this post video narration you decided to do with this video. Some great tips in this video to help with the flow of cooking for sure.
I make your banana pancakes all the time!❤I have severe gluten intolerance and I love that it is so forgiving with sooo many kinds of flour and never dry.
This is amazing, thankhs and Happy Father's Day!
Clean in between and knowing what to prep first is vital for a home cook. I'm definitely getting a spatter guard. Cooking lid doesn't cut it sometime.
This was such a helpful video! More of this!
Clean as you go
Wipe as you go
Stay ahead of dishes
Pro Tip:
If u pack the salad dressing in a little container which u out in the salad container the salad tastes like freshe when eating it later and the greens are not soggy;)
Mike, love your stuff but can you please mention the washing of hands in between the handling of raw chicken and other foods, and washing your produce to remove any toxic stuff. Know for most people this is well known and common sense, but newbies in the kitchen may not be aware.
This looks superb, thank you 🙏🏼
I love the background music!
PLEASE make more videos with this style of cooking! :D It's absolutely amazing! My partner and I aren't able to cook more than once a day and now with a 3-month old baby, we're finding meal prep and cooking very vexing and hard to plan.
p.s. the banana pancakes were spectacular - I want to eat them all the time now :D
Wow! Impressive! I'm going to have to try your style. Thanks for the eye-opener because I was slaving in the kitchen needlessly. Do you have more of these videos with different recipes? I would be forever indebted!😅
That's such a good use of pan non stick patina layer. Niceeeee
Got an air fryer from my brother yesterday. It's amazing!
We have the same rice cooker -I actually looked at mine when I heard yours! It is silly but it is really nice when it sings!
Really liking the new editing and voice over
Good video Mike!
Best ending so far. Great video.
As a mom without a mom, I thank you! This is the stuff I struggle with to make the days smooth and stress free
Watching you make pancakes put me in the mood...I will make them the night before...
Mike! Amazing content as always! Any chance we can see a garden tour?
Thank you for the inspiration
Lol, I'm so proud of you for gifting yourself that potato/all purpose hand masher!
I do something similar. I buy those huge chubs of 90/10 burger from sams. Break it down into 2 pound zip bags. Once a week i fry up a bag of hamburger and 2 onions. Its in the fridge for tacos, pasta, undone bierocks(my fav), mixed in eggs, gravy, stews. Just everything. Just having that 2 to 4 pounds of already cooked and onioned meat ready make cooking a real snap. And i can do it while i was dishes in a big pot. Add a little water and use that great star shaped ground meat tool. Let the onions and meat kind of boil/steam then as the water evaporates you decide how much water to leave in for reheating. It low fat and you can preseason it how you like.
Same with hard boiled/steamed eggs. Just have 6 ready for salads, sides, snacking.
I also buy cole slaw mix. Yes i know i could cut it up myself by buying a small head of green cabbage, red cabbage and carrots and vacuum pack it myself. But why? In my Walmart the 2 pre-done vacuum packed fresh slaw mix is about the the same price as the heads of cabbage. Then you have to get the carrots. Then you have to spend more time peeling shredding, cleaning up and still have leftover food you may or may not get eaten. So wasting food and money. For my household it's better.
So for my beirocks bowls i just dump the hamburger/onion mix in a pot put the package of fresh slaw mix in with a little water to steam the veggies, season and done. I can have that for lunch all week.
Thank you! Very relateable and adaptable!
This is one of my favorite cooking videos ever! Efficiently using time, resources and that pan! I am SO going to use that trick!
Thank you, I love your videos
You can get a tolerable consistency using younger plantains instead of flour. They will get soggy with syrup, so I add cinnamon, cayenne pepper and a pinch of sugar in with the batter, and just add butter later
Just bought the Sardel set of pans. Thanks so much for the coupon code!
Nice comment how are you
This is honestly fantastic. So many ideas. I'd never heard of banana pancakes; I have to try them (maybe with chocolate chips!)
Though it is basically cake for breakfast …..
They taste so good! Like banana bread! I normally add cinnamon
whenever I think I'm going to forget about something I put it where it's IN THE WAY, if I have to trip over it (or it's just in a weird spot) it will stick out. a little sign that say air fryer dummy might also come in handy hehehe. you have to outsmart yourself. love the vids...thanks Jim Oaxaca Mexico
What a great idea to meal prep for the day 🎉❤
Nice comment how are you
