Hi, former swimmer! I get wanting to wash your hair less but if it’s wet with any chlorine you have to wash it as SOON as possible each time with a clarifying soap. You are potentially leaving the chlorine to bond more with your hair which is a recipe for damaged hair. Sometimes it’s better to wash than to skip!
It felt wrong because just water wasn’t washing it out girl 🥲 you can put an oil based leave in on your hair to help keep out as much absorbing into your hair while you swim
Yeah... no-wash methods aren't meant to deal with situations where you're applying harsh drying chemicals to your hair. You gotta address that or your hair is going to be like straw. Like, even people who never use shampoo are probably going to break out the soap if a bird poops on their head. Same thing with chlorine. Get that shit out of your hair.

But I let it dry and it was so shiny, healthy and felt less thin and flying. So the second time I thought "okay, last time was not so bad, maybe I leave it, out of my free will. And now I always don't wash it out after a chlorine bath 🙈 less washing and products are a real game-changer for my hair, it's much healthier and thicker... the smell is the only thing not soo good, bit as my husband is never smelling on my hair, I'll go on like that.
That's why people in medieval times wore their hair in braids all day, and also wore a lot of headpieces or turbans or any protective cloth. Grease will accumulate regardless, but brushing your hair every night can spread the oils along the strands and make your hair less dry on the length for longer.

Heyy cos student here! My teachers recommendation is to wet your hair before going into a body of water, your hair will soak the clean water up and then absorb less contaminated water, its not an end all solution you should still wash your hair immediately after getting out of water but it should help
Your hair looked surprisingly good without washing it! I have thin, slippery hair and I dont have much of it so once it gets greasy it really looks greasy. I have had several periods not washing my hair in over a week during summer vacations etc but it always looks sooooo bad! No combing, braids or rinsing it with water helps. 🙄

@@_laughlivelove.it’s actually not true that you can train your hair to produce less oil. You can find website that say oil training works, but studies say the opposite. Sebum production is influenced by endogenous factors not external like frequency of washing.

Good call!!! I was about to make a comment to those with eczema, psoriasis, or chronic dandruff. This will make those conditions worse and cause infections
Nobody should be doing this if they wanna keep their hair tbh. The pores in the scalp are gonna be sooooooooooo clogged she might even lose her hair ..

Some people try to quit washing their hair with shampoo, because it strips your hair from its natural oils, which can make it more fragile I guess. Conditioner nourishes your hair, so it makes sense that she still used that, but yeah dry shampoo is definitely no better (probably worse) than regular shampoo for your hair's health, especially if you don't wash it out.

i'm a girl and yea it's impossible to tell in this video, she's so far away. im curious though - if you cant tell when hair is greasy, then how do you decide when to wash your hair?
Yeah I’ve went 6months lmao! 😂 my husband was overseas in war. I got super damn depressed! Washed my body didn’t give two craps about my hair. It took quite a few washes to get it unnasty! 😂
I braid my hair every day. I wash my scalp with just water while it is still braided and wrapped up in a clip. Haven't washed it since August of 2022 (it's currently May 2024). I think maybe once in that time, I unbraided it to wash with just water. I unbraid it each morning to brush upside down with my hands and then rebraid. It's about 32 inches long. The last time I used commercial shampoo was in May of 2020. I then used just baking soda water for shampoo and diluted apple cider vinegar for conditioner until August 2022, which is when I just stopped all together. Sometimes I put coconut oil in the ends.
Wow, how's it feeling and looking these days? Oh, and smell? I switched over to only Shea moisturize s/c, quality all natural light hair oil on occasion, and finally moved away from hard water (I'm lucky, I live in Hawaii) but the ocean and rain water here do wonders for my hair. Also use protective hair practices It's beautiful and strong now, it was all brittle and wrecked before. ❤
Wait you mean you don't even water it for 2 years? I get not using products on it but what's the benefit of not washing it with water? Wouldn't there be enough sebum etc to not let it dry out from washing?
May I ask you why? I really want to get more informations about this cuz it seems it's more popular than I think but I don't know what it's for or how it helps our Scalp and hair.
As a 4b haired girl who puts their hair in protective styles I tend to forget what week im on even 😭 (i keep my styles in for 4-6 weeks) But I'm honestly so proud of her for making it to 12 days !! She has a lot of dedication !
Saturate your hair with fresh water before going swimming! Your hair will hold onto less chlorinated water because it is already holding so much fresh water.
Fact to help you with your challenge!! After about a month of not washing your hair, natural oils get released and your hair looks shiny and gorgeous without feeling greasy 🌿💕
I used to wash my hair once a two weeks and at the wash day they were the same as after washing 2 weeks ago ( and the best part is that I didnt used any conditioners or dry shampoo I didnt even let them touch water )
When you say you dont shampoo are you still rinsing it with water or are you keeping the hair dry? Thats what i always wondered about people saying they are only washing once a week
Me too I was wondering the same. But as for my case, if I say I wash only once a week it means, I don't even let it touch the water at all for the whole week.
I don’t understand why people make it a big deal to go forever without washing your hair, it’s honestly kinda gross. You sweat, you’re around germs, depending on your work you could end up with stuff in it, bugs, idk I just think washing it at the very least every other day should be a universal thing
If I don’t wash my hair for two or three days I look like a neckbeard in a dress and my hair stinks when greasy. So it’s not for me that’s for certain.
It’s not that we don’t wash, we just don’t wash with traditional shampoos that strip your hair of its natural oils, leading you to spend more money on more products you don’t need. Apple Cider Vinagar is amazing for cleaning and conditioning your hair, as will as providing amazing shine. You can also cleanse with just your conditioner and water by throughly scrubbing your scalp. It’s not that hard.
Because washing your hair every 2-3 days or whatever isn't recommended for all hair types. I wash mine biweekly and that's another reason why I hate when people touch my curls because I don't know where your dirty hands have been and I don't want that in my hair till the next wash day 🤣🤣🤣 I don't even like partners touching my hair because their hands take away certain oils and products that I need in my hair to keep it hydrated.
I find these videos so interesting! I’ve been bleaching my hair since I was 9 now I’m almost 18 and the way I got my hair to be healthy again from all the bleach (after I got a chemically cut bob from the bleach) was washing it once a month. My hair was barely creating any oils so washing it once a week was stripping it from its natural oils it barely had. Best decision I ever made. Now I wash it 2 times a month and it’s the softest it’s ever been. I’ve learned you just need to do what works for your hair not what works for other peoples hair online! Although obviously the internet is a great way to get tips!
Right? Like maybe its cuz i have insanely curly hair that looks puffy/frizzy a day after wash day but her hair looked cute and pretty to me the whole way through.
It is good to let your hair relax and not wash it too often. I usually go for washing my hair once or twice a week. I'll still do rinses when I wash other stuff, but letting my hair develop its own oils withiut having to worry about how I'll strip them away in every 12 hrs is definitely a good move. Definitely good to still give it washes tho lol
How???? Day 2 my hair already is greasy af and looks worse then day 13. I try to wash my hair only two times a week bc i dont go out every day but if i do i have to wash it the day before or else it just looks so gross.
I love your hair!! I have fine hair that goes down to my butt and i wash it once a week. Using olaplex oil on the mids and ends keeps it from getting too dry!
Your hair must be tangled to shit, fam. I've only done that one when I was in an intense depression spiral. And afterward, I thought I was going to have to cut my hair off.
Your hair looks great. I'll have birds nesting in my wavy, frizzy hair in 5 days. The longest I've gone in my life without touching water on my hair is a solid 3 days and I experienced so much mood swing because of the way I felt.
While I get wanting to go longer between washes--I, myself, have curly, bleached, and color-treated hair, so I stretch out my washes too!--it's important to know that there IS also such a thing as too long! (You can always look up stuff from dermatologists, trichilogists, and hair stylists to confirm this) The scalp needs to be washed every so often, plus hair is porous and does absorb pollution from the air, along with other gross things you come into contact with that you may not even know about (hair doesn't have nerves, after all). Doctors usually recommend washing as soon as your scalp starts getting dandruff and buildup. Both skin and hair get healthier when you don't overwash them, but still do require regular cleaning! 🙂 Hope that's helpful to someone.
It takes at least a 100 days for your scalp and hair to adjust. The transition period is rough but once you get through it, you are set. I'm 10+ years in shampoo free.

What about your scalp? I have thick curly hair and I can easily go ten days between washes but otherwise my hair gets thicker around the scalp haha I use a salt scrub on my scalp once a week to remove the oil build up and prevent itchy scalp
@@kurlykaitlyn Curly here too. I just use a gentle shampoo. It's so great. Normal shampoo could never. I also use a cowash. I can't just use conditioner because I need to wash out the leftover product.

it’s crazy how pretty your hair looks even after 12 days of not washing it. two days after for me, my hair looks thin brittle and greasy asf
I have the same problem
Thats probably cuz she used dry shampoo

I had a really bad depressive episode before where i was unemployed but doing online school and went without washing my hair for 3-almost 4 months. It was so matted and dry and i had to cut so much of it off just to get it untangled so that i could finally wash it. Felt so much better and in control of my life after I did it.

Nobody should be doing this if they wanna keep their hair tbh. The pores in the scalp are gonna be sooooooooooo clogged she might even lose her hair ..
@@Abishhhhh That's not a thing. Hair follicles are not pores.

bro my hair would really look greasy. yours looked freshly washed and has volume!

I'm so confused. Dry shampoo and conditioner still count as not washing hair??
😂😂THANK YOU that's what i said! There nothing wrong with wanting to set that goal, but if you're still using all those product's during "not washing" does it really count🤔 i thought she was just seeing how long she could go without cleaning or wetting her hair- but she gets it wet in the pool and does a deep conditioning mask which to my knowledge you wash out afterwards, so wouldn't that still count as washing your hair?
Some people try to quit washing their hair with shampoo, because it strips your hair from its natural oils, which can make it more fragile I guess. Conditioner nourishes your hair, so it makes sense that she still used that, but yeah dry shampoo is definitely no better (probably worse) than regular shampoo for your hair's health, especially if you don't wash it out.
@@joelleweetjewel9948i was looking for this comment… imagine 100 days of dry shampoo and leave in conditioner… this shit makes zero sense, your hair will fall out
Pro tip: dry shampoo will work 10 times better if you blow dry it after putting it in
As a dude, I literally can’t tell the difference. I don’t get how girls can look at hair like that and say “Yup, that’s greasy”. Nah it’s all the same 💀 and it’s not like I’m one of those guys who don’t pay attention to hair. I do. And still, it looks fine. Don’t stress.
i'm a girl and yea it's impossible to tell in this video, she's so far away.
im curious though - if you cant tell when hair is greasy, then how do you decide when to wash your hair?

That’s just vile man
Wait you mean you don't even water it for 2 years? I get not using products on it but what's the benefit of not washing it with water? Wouldn't there be enough sebum etc to not let it dry out from washing?
@@amphitritifollowing for the answer lol
May I ask you why? I really want to get more informations about this cuz it seems it's more popular than I think but I don't know what it's for or how it helps our Scalp and hair.

She traveld the whole world while doing this xD
@@embroideredragdoll Reallll
It’s not that we don’t wash, we just don’t wash with traditional shampoos that strip your hair of its natural oils, leading you to spend more money on more products you don’t need. Apple Cider Vinagar is amazing for cleaning and conditioning your hair, as will as providing amazing shine. You can also cleanse with just your conditioner and water by throughly scrubbing your scalp. It’s not that hard.
@@Randomneotch1234 When did I say that you weren’t doing it at all?
Your hair is better than mine. Mine gets greasy in 3 days it is terrible

It is good to let your hair relax and not wash it too often. I usually go for washing my hair once or twice a week.
🙂 Hope that's helpful to someone.
washing your hair isn't bad as long as it's not daily! each person has their own routine mine is every 3-4 days or else it will be even greaser
It takes at least a 100 days for your scalp and hair to adjust. The transition period is rough but once you get through it, you are set. I'm 10+ years in shampoo free.

As someone who used to swim, yeah you really want to wash your hair with shampoo after being in chlorinated water.
