I found it comical that they had a character lecturing the "male presenting" Doctor about not being able to give away power. Yah, remember when the Doctor literally had the whole cosmos in the palm of his hand when he possessed the Key to Time? Literally unlimitted power...and he threw it away without a second thought.
As a kid, it never, ever occurred to me that Davros was “in a wheelchair”. He was clearly a sci-fi creature, that’s all.
Yeah, this is like when people were complaining that the Smurfs taught kids that Communism was good (due to their village being interpreted as a communist utopia, lol) and that Barbies gave girls unrealistic body expectations. Meanwhile, to kids, the former were just little blue creatures and the latter were dolls with lots of dress up options.
I never got into DW till 2005 because I never heard of it before that. I never thought he was "in a wheelchair" I thought he was just half Dalek since well obviously look at the rest of the Daleks...

The disabled are exactly the same as the able-bodied. Some are good, some are bad, many are average. Some are nobly overcoming incredible challenges that the rest of us can barely imagine. And some are completely self-absorbed and entitled, and genuinely believe they deserve to be congratulated for their independence when others do things for them.
It's insane how in the trailers, it kept emphasizing the line "if donna remembers me, SHE WILL DIE." The audacity to hammer this idea into our minds, leading us to believe it will have any sort of relevance to the plot, then just erasing that story is absolutely moronic

My entire family were a huge Tennant fan, we didn't even liked Dr.Who before him, Tennant and Matt Smith were the only seasons we've watched this show , when they switch to the old doctor (not John Hurt) we lost the interest and moved on. i can't believe how much they massacred this show, it had a solid foundation and they ruined it because of a propaganda. i lost all of my respect to David Tennant btw he shouldn't accept the role this time.

RTD says he doesn't want to portray a "wheelchair user" Davros (Half-dalek, Half humanoid) as evil.
RTD completely forgets that the ""wheel chair"" he apparently uses is just the lower half of a Dalek's shell.
RTD is therefore counting the Dalek Shell/suit as a wheelchair - therefore, all daleks are wheelchair users - therefore, all daleks can no longer be shown as evil.
So much for the Trigger-happy mini tanks. RTD is reducing them to squids in mobility scooters.

I didn't mind the start of the Meep gender discussion because it kinda sounded like the Doctor switching from human handling mode to alien handling mode (assuming the aliens have even weirder sexual characteristics than the animals on earth). Then it focused entirely on what correct pronoun to use and things just got weird. Also other than the whole "trans is better" thing, they practically never touch on Rose's history or physical sex to the point where I had no idea what the "bullies" were talking about except that they were meant to be bullies. The idea of Rose being a fusion of the Doctor and Donna kinda gives the trans thing some meaning but in the end it just ends in a case of retaliatory sexism. The trans thing can be interpreted as realizing you get to choose who you are (ie personality does not equal genetics/lineage) but it seemed to be more "your dumb because your male" or worse "your dumb because you choose to be male".
Doctor Who is literally a story about a shapeshifting alien from outer space who can go anywhere in time and space. Even if they wanted to promote "the message", They have so much to work with and they end up strong-arming together a mess that is just trying to shove what politically correct jargon was the first thing that came up when they googled "transgender" or "gender equality".

The point about Davros was that he was powerful despite being physically destroyed; the Target book describes him as a shattered shell of a man, who should have been pitiful, but instead was terrifying. Sheer ntelligence and force of will combined with his being an obssessed megalomaniac are what make him scary, He should attract our pity and sympathy, but he doesn;t. He needs no one. The "would set me among the gods" is one of the finest scenes in the show's history. Nyder is shown to be just as evil and _almost_ as ruthless as Davros (even he hesitates about destroying the Kaleds, his own people) and is physically perfect.
Most people's favorite doctor being dressed down like he's an idiot, is the woke writers way of saying don't like this person that you like, like the person we want to like. That never works

For me, Tom Baker was the all time iconic Doc. Eccentric, intelligent, a bit mad, the scarf, the hat and the jelly babies!
The show was started by a first time female producer, Verity Lambert, in 1962 on a shoe string budget. The first episode debuted on 23 November 1963 (when JFK was assassinated) so it was a modest start for the show but it quickly took off after that. Now it’s all over.
My late best friend LOVED DR. WHO. He was disabled and used a wheelchair. He had no problem with Daleks being as designed in the lore that got tossed out.
I doubt anyone had ever associated Davros to people in wheelchairs until now. Even still, are disabled people not allowed to portray villains now.

I didn't care about the diversity messaging, what I minded is the unravelling of the Doctor Donna story, which had meaning for me. Donna was once the most relatable companion since Sarah Jane, she was an ordinary person, undertaking ordinary work, not a dewy eyed ingenue given 'specialness'. Donna achieved her goal of being important, but then had to lose all knowledge of this, it was poignant and tragic, and they just handwaved it away. As you have a time travelling doctor, it would have been easy to reunite these characters without breaking one of the more compelling canon stories.
I genuinely didnt know Rose was trans. But it feels very heavy handed to have her being the one insisting about pronouns and getting such focus on her appearance

Also, MANY of the best writers from a decade ago are no longer good writers and have been consumed by "the message". Many of them have become crap writers for an agenda. The western entertainment industry is almost dead as a whole, it's why Anime and content from overseas have blown up in popularity. It's a shame too, because I was a big supporter of western animation and I still hold that western cartoons are superior in creativity and style but the stories have just been crap.
All the old Who fans pretending the whole thing wasn't always a 'psyop' seem a little quaint and irrelevant at this point. It was always a state sponsered PSA. More or less, over the decades.

I don't think it will die because the actors will do enough to keep people watching and people will keep turning their brains off. I remember the very first when I was a kid. It was on a Saturday afternoon when me and my brother made sure, that whatever we were doing, we didn't miss it otherwise we'd have nothing to talk about when we were back at school. Every child my age watched it. In the early days, it was so primitive but I think that has made it so wonderful.
It's hard to believe that we've reached an era where the fans have more class, and reverance for the show, and storytelling in general than the fumbling idiots who make the show.
That's just about every single piece of media that's been co-opted by non fans in the last 5 years. I've never seen anything so horrible happen to anything than what they are doing to all of our favorite franchises. I'm literally at a loss of what can even be done at this point. I was a stargate star trek star wars lord of the rings and doctor who and alien fan. Funnily enough those were my favorite shows and movies. They actually got everything I like. Except battlestar galactica...
But Davros wasn't in a wheelchair. He was a monster that was more machine than man. The Daleks story and history is incredible, well worth going and doing a deep read. He was dying and incorporated cyberwear into his body and the more he deteriorated the more he became a machine. The only way to keep his people alive was to put thier brains into a robot. This is the tragedy of Davros, he had the choice to save his people but it came at the cost of erasing their "humanity". The person that is writing Dr. Who should know this. But instead of having a backstory that spans centuries and has so much depth and interest, they've just gone and made him generic evil guy number 6, 803.

This would be valid if there wasn’t an episode where a major plot point is the Doctor stealing his chair because it’s got a shield built in (even tho they show that Davros was connected to the thing from his spine in the same episode)
I think there was a cleverer compromise to be had. Keep Davros in the chair HOWEVER contrast that with Ruth Madeley's character taking him on thereby it becomes a sort of physical disability allegory about what the chair represents and explore the drama there.

In a weird way, Tennant reminded me of Woody in Toy Story 4, where he comes through as exhausted, depressed and tired of all this sh*t - when in fact, he was the one that carried the first 3 films. The only "issue" in this episode imo was when they used "I'm a woman" as a way of explaining why the meta crisis reverted which makes no sense because she was a woman 15 years ago. Also because in the process she bashed the Doctor for being a man.
Apart from that they handled discrimination very well, I thought they handled Rose's character very well and her subconsciously choosing Rose as her new name because she has memories of Donna and Doctor's adventures was smart.
Imo there was still a lot of lazy plot writing which is part of the reason I stopped watching this show in the first place.
the bbc, disney and russell t davies did something that the entire race of the daleks couldnt do, well done

Yes, they have had some good actors since then, but I found something not-quite-right with the story lines and the science fiction. I got the sense that it was going down the preachy, social-awareness avenue. I quickly realised I couldn't watch it for long.

What I think they've got wrong is this, fundamentally, good writing has a blend of emotions in the stories, the original doctor who with Tennant took us on a rollercoaster, it seems this new who just wants everything to be happy, inclusive, and positive, and that's not life, thus no one can relate to it.
You know the reason why a lot of evil doers in older movies were disabled in some way wasn't because disabilities were supposed to be associated with evil but because they were maniacs that were constantly engaged in risky activties that often lead to them getting injured OR something unjust happened to them which caused the injury when was then a cause for them going down a path of evil. Funny how I never thought all people in a wheel chair are smart and have telepathic powers when I first saw professor X.
Two things. 1: I joined my university Dr Who fan club in 2008 (even became its president for a couple of years in 2010); at the time I joined it, the club had about 15 people and was 3/4 male. Over the course of the next year, it went from that to about 50 people and 3/4 female. Why? Two words: David. Tennant. Berating the 10th Doctor for being “male presenting”, and essentially emasculating him, was never going to go over well.
2: Nobody thinks of Davros as a disabled person, Russell. He was always a lunatic scientist who was mutilated in war, and who was so consumed with hatred and obsession and lust for power that he became a twisted husk of a person. He repeatedly extended his life beyond its natural span, and even mutilated himself further to create more Daleks. He’s not a disabled person, he’s not a wheelchair user, he’s a talking, cybernetic corpse.

however he is clearly over state pension age, and except for a brief period, long passed, doesn't live in the UK. so sadly, davros would not be able to claim PIP. but it would be based on age and address. he would, by the notoriously harsh UK benefits system, be considered disabled enough to claim disability benefit.

Yup. Harkness was a complete character who also happened to be gay. He was well cast and the writing was good. That's what's missing from a lot of characters these days, they focus on one or two defining traits, tick those boxes but forget they're meant to be "real" complex people beyond that.
