- 1968 Firebird Restoration maybe you took the front bumper apart and don’t recall how it goes back together there are several brackets and adjustments. We hope to get this reproduction bumper to fit well and not have left over parts.

Your tips / comments regarding the differences in the headlight adjustment cans saved me a lot of frustrations. I wish I could post a pic of my results.. Double thanks...
Right on glad this helped!
Looks much gooder with the front
Bumper on!
Yes it does!
another GREAT Video, thank you.
Awesome! Glad
You liked it
Great video on one of Pontiacs big mystery’s of how to install and Adjust the 67 68 front bumper , thanks for the explanation
It can be done and hope this sheds some light on how to get it looking decent
Awesome video Pontiac engineers did not design the front bumper and grills to go on easy I would recommend to people who are not familiar with this to put together before paint for practice John is a pro this video is a perfect demonstration thank you John!
Totally agree a test fit prior isn’t a bad idea at all. Especially if it’s a reproduction bumper
I spent 4 long days working to get my bumper looking good. I later learned learned one of the fender gussets was bent. I also had to re-drill holes for the donuts to bring the bumper in closer. You Made it look too easy:)
It only looked easy because my boy helped and I got lucky this time.
VVG, I’m going to use this to pull the front end apart to run my American Autowire kit where the factory did! I wasn’t sure how this all came apart, and now because of your video I’ll no problems or questions! Thank you!!
Very welcome and this is why i do this is. To provide a little insight on the cars I love.
Looks great. Love those grills!
Me too!
Great video brother and you and absolutely right 68 grills are black that front end looks sick you are unbelievable with these birds
I love playing car and it just fun working with my hands
My '68, Pontiac 350 non-A/C car has had a silver grill 400 bumper since at least 1976 when my dad bought it. I have always assumed my car had the wrong bumper, but I was unaware the '68 cars had black grills.
Thanks for the information!
Love the channel, good luck on you vynil top install!
Glad it helps And thanks for watching and comments it helps me out immensely and I do appreciate it.
Spoiler alert I did get the vinyl top
On and it came out nice 😎 should
Have the video ready for next week
Thank you for the vid! The front end on mine had been taken apart prior to me owning it because of a collision with a dog. Luckily a replacement front end came with the car so I at least had an idea, but this should make it a whole heck of a lot easier.
That is great you have all the parts. Good luck and glad To help.
Thanks!
wow you rock thank you. orange Moutan dew fund!!
Nice Lights!! 😂🥰 I will send you some Mt. Dew today!!
That will brighten my day thanks
Super helpful video :)
Glad to hear
Thank again, Jon. My god there are so many parts to lining that bumper up. Makes me glad I’m a Camaro guy!! Looks like I have a lot of work ahead of my on my friends 67 FB 400. I’ll try using some of your tips to get it to line up and if worse comes to worse, I will send you some pics, maybe you can help troubleshoot.
Definitely if you hit a bump in the road on your way send me some pics and I will see what I can do to help.
Awesome channel, I have learned a lot.
That’s great, do you have a Firebird?
Have a 73 Trans am. But in 1969 went for a ride in a 67, it changed my life. 67,68 might be my favorite. Thanks for the great content.
Well a 1973 trans am Is a great car as well. If I had more room I would love to have a white one with the blue bird on the hood.
Looks great! The nose / front end of the Birds are my favorite things they just look awesome. Great work as always.
Thank you very much!
I appreciate you showing the mistakes and corrections. There is a lot of pieces to the Firebird bumper, but man is it worth it when it’s done. Looks great and and excellent tips for putting it all together in the right order. Thanks for sharing.👍
I don’t always get it right the first time so keeping it real I suppose. Now 1969 bumper I have a lot more experience with. Like to think I would remember it the first tome.
I live in central Indiana also. Love your vids.
Awesome! Thank you!
I have a 67 with front end all apart this video is worth gold to me..
Fantastic!! Glad to help.
I finally got my hands on a hardtop! These videos are gonna help me so much! My convertible i paid someone to do the work. After watching you john, i feel confident trying most of this myself. Thanks for all the quality tips and videos!
That’s great!! Enjoy your journey and keep it fun is the best tip I can give you. Good luck! And thanks for watching
Reminds me of dealing with my 67 Tempest grill, brackets, bumper with the 400 different bolts from last year. Looks great now though!
This, to me is a fun and relaxing hobby!
Thanks
I agree this hobby is relaxing and very rewarding to me. I enjoy playing cars
This gives me inspiration to make progress on my 67' firebird.
That’s fantastic! Save as many birds as possible is the plan with this channel
Looking good John Its going to be a very sharp car I had a 68 firebird once it was my first car your channel brings back the memories.
Fantastic reliving memories and glad to help get you there
This would be a good time to go with LED headlight bulbs.
Yes it would. The owner wants to go with t3 bulbs on this one
Awesome job so far John!!👍🏽
Much appreciated!!
And those Philips screws for those triangle pieces are missing on mine as mine uses bolts and hit the side of the hood!
Happens a lot but now you know how to fix it
@@VinylVillageGarage Sure do thanks to you!
💪😎
Thanks as always, appreciate you watching and commenting too
@VinylVillageGarage you're the man. I really enjoy your video's. Awesome job
Very nice! What will the next build be after this car is complete?
I have a couple of 1969 birds needing some attention and mods. Still working on the other plan but it will happen
Project coming along great! Any chance will be seeing the Great Pumpking at the TransAm nationals this year in Dayton?
It was a goal but it is cutting it to close I think for this year. Still waiting on back order interior parts unfortunately
@@VinylVillageGarage Darn, you have put a ton of work into that bird. Sure you are tempeted to bring it to the show with the interior unfinished. If its not safe not worth it. It already looks fantastic can't wait to see it finished.
Your videos give me confidence to tackle my own project. I have 67 LeMans in process.
Question, I have seen several videos of using Rustoleum semi-gloss black in a spray gun with an added hardener for firewall/engine bay. Would you recommend this? Thanks!
Good deal. I had a 67 lemans really cool car they just look tough sitting still. I traded it for a 1969 Gto convertible that’s a fun story…. Anyway rustoleum with added hardener i haven’t tried it personally but my friend in Pennsylvania Luis has and I will say when I helped him
Install his engine and transmission it was a very durable finish we bumped it a few times and it help
Up well.
Were you able to shift the bumper towards the passenger side? Mine is the same way and I've been struggling with it. Thanks for the videos!
Yes it had
Just enough adjustment to make it work. I don’t love the aftermarket bumper but it works and way less expensive then a rechrome
When doing restoration, how did you clean up all the fasteners and hardware for putting things together? The little bits and pieces that can't be sanded or sand blasted.
Small parts I used a media blasting cabinet with black beauty media. Now the small hardware that is visible and zinc, black oxide, or like cadmium plated I purchase a lot of it new as a kit from Ames performance. Relatively inexpensive.
Isn`t the grill sides supposed to be silver with flat black inner bars?
1967 is yes 1968 nope black surrounds
1969 Front end is a little Trickier to Align
Yes a lot more moving parts for sure
Looks fantastic, did you repaint the grills or are the new ones?
Repainted the original grilles. They where in good shape still
@@VinylVillageGarage looks great, just resprayed mine as well, struggled to get the silver lines good, so was curious on how you did it
@srenmrkandersen4580 i should have done a video i suppose. The short answer was stripped paint, painted grilles silver then taped off the silver then painted the black
Appreciate the video! How similar is this process to the 69's? Mine has always been off a bit from the body shop and it drives me nuts. Low on the driver's side and shifted to the passenger side a bit.
Sorta the same. The bumper bracket to subframe is identical. you can adjust the bumper assembly up and down in and out. Side to side is a little more tricky
@@VinylVillageGarage That somewhat confirms my understanding that the 69's have little to no left/right adjustment. I know my car was hit in the front end at some point in it's early life. Could account for some of the mis-alignment.
Hope to see you in Dayton, OH, at the Trans Am Nationals 2023 this year! It's August 25-27th. I really enjoy your channel!
Might not be there all weekend but hope to make an appearance on Saturday and at Tipp city. I was hoping to bring the pumpkin, still waiting on back order interior parts
@@VinylVillageGarage I would have loved to see it! I may bring my 1971 Trans Am and next year plan to bring my 68 Firebird 400 up from Florida.
@@7gear642 nice! That is a bit of a drive. I will most likely bring my 1969 bird this year
@@VinylVillageGarage ill trailer the 68 next year.and I'll wear my "got to save them birds" VVG t-shirt!
@@7gear642 well that is a great way to be found!
Love your videos. How do I get in contact with you. I’m dong a Restoration on a 67 bird. I would like to see if you’re interested. Thanks
Thanks for watching, as for building cars I have a list of 4 waiting to be done. That should keep me busy for the next 6 years. I only tinker on Wednesdays and a little on the weekends. Maybe someday do this full time
The 68 grills were black?
Yes 1968 grill surrounds are black and then 67 where silver. Most cars I think went silver
Nice, leave it loose and work it in, too many parts compared to a camaro.
Interesting, I haven’t built a
Camaro yet. Interesting the similarities and differences.
My two cents, don't do a vinyl top..! Pex
I understand I have removed many tops. And repaired the rusty aftermath so I bet the why. This one is going back original with a white top and I am confident it won’t see the elements anymore and should last a long time.
