Dude thank you very much for these videos. I bough th tg01 around 2 to 3 years ago. Originally Ryzen 5 3500, 8gb ram, 1650super, running most my games of an external ssd (it was painful).
Anyways i upgraded to a 2tb 970 evo ssd, 32gb of ram (running at 3200 using ryzen master) and jut got a used msi 2060 for 180$ CAD. This thing can now run every game i throw at it in 1080p at +60fps in either high or ultra.
Now if u are in a very tight budget and want similar results do the following:
- Get 16gb kit of used 3200mh DDR4 ram sticks on FB marketplace (people are upgrading to DDR5 so u can find DDR4 kits for 40$)
- 1tb internal sata SSD (buy new, if ur budget is tight just buy 500gb. There is 2 sata ports on the motherboard so u can always get another SSD down the line), if u have the budget an are savy get a 2tb M.2 ssd and clone ur system.
- Get a used GPU from FB marketplace thats compatible with the 400w psu.
This is going to depend on ur area but theres a GPU upgrade for every budget in the used market for this PC (Please note these are canadian prices so they will look higher than USA prices):
* At 100$ to 150$ u have the 1660ti. This would put you at the bare minimum to run new titles on higher settings at 1080p.
* 150 to 200$ theres the 2060 where ull be able to run most modern games at ultra entirely or with some high settings in 1080p, as well as being capable of achieving higher fps for those with high refresh monitors.
* 200 to 250$, heres where your option widen, you can get either a 2060 super, or a 3050.With even the regular 2060 beating the 3050.
* 300 to 400$ you start to find 3060s and 4060s. While the 3060 is evenly matched in performance by the 2060 super it delivers it with a more reasonable power consumption. That said the 4060 is a nice upgrade but its also harder to find in the used market at a good used price.
I am happy it worked out for you; thanks for the comment. Btw. I pinned your comment.
@TNW1337 Thanks again to you kind sir. Currently waiting for a b550/5800x3d combo to pop on marketplace for the right price.
@@wizworksindustries Do you think this would work with the motherboard?
Im changing the ram to T-Force Vulcan Z DDR4 16GB Kit

Had to also buy the 500W PSU from Ebay because HP is backordered by 3 months. But got did everything myself and seems to be working!!
I am getting my tg01. I subscribed you as it is a very helpful channel thanks

This is excellent! I’m assuming I can do this same upgrade in the TP-01 because the dimensions are the same as the TG-01. Going to have to wait until the GPU prices drop though because I cannot afford anything right now 😅
I understand but yes only big difference from tg to tp is the out side. Mobo psu all the same thing. Ram speed may be differnt but most of the time the same.

Thank you so much for this video. I had no ideas this kind of prebuilt is limited in its upgrade to very precise proprietary hardware, like the 500w HP psu. Now my tg01 is maxed out and its amazing.
Tips : I found a msi 3070 ventus 2x, its slightly smaller than the zotag one so it doesn't require the case bending/dremeling part, it fits just right in the case width.
Tip 2 : beware for the 180°ed 8pin connectors, the one I bought had 2 pieces, but one was with an upside down connector head, made on purpose, but not advertised. Lukily, I bought 2 sets idk why, but at least I have the 2x 8pins I needed.
Yeah Sorry about the I order like 2 or 3x. So I did not release it till you said some thing. I hope you love the New PC!!!

@@MetalGaiden96 I holds very, very well ; I mean I can basically play any recent game at very high settings in 1080p (I dont have higher resolution monitors and dont plan to) with what I upgraded : getting the 3070 with the 500 watts psu, and 32GB Ram (2x16). The only things It struggle with is some veeery power hungry VR games, namely No man's sky in VR and FlightSimulator 2020 in VR, the later being probably the most power hungry game of all time as of today. Buuuut in fact I havent upgraded the CPU yet, its still the stock i5, and theses two games in their VR version are very CPU hungry. So I might get the final i7 CPU upgrade someday, maybe in 3-4 years when new games with very high CPU needs will probably be more common. For now on, this setup is very, very good, for basically any flat screen game, and almost any VR game beside poorly optimised ones.
I have watched all your videos on the TG series, and I really appreciate all the time and hard work you've put in to provide the content. I currently have the TG01-2003w model which came with the Erica6 motherboard, the Ryzen 5 5600G cpu, the AMD Radeon 5500 gpu, 256gb storage, 8gb @3200 ram and the 400w psu. I just bought the EVGA RTX 3060 Ti XC gpu, and ordered the 500w gold+ psu you recommended. Im just wondering if the psu will be able to handle that gpu? Im also trying to decide if it'd be worth upgrading the cpu to the Ryzen 7 5700g? Id really appreciate your feedback!
I think you will be happy with the gpu. CPU will not give you much more for gaming. Now video editing or 3d work yes you would want more Cores.

I really appreciate the video. I’m trying to learn more about PCs. I read from many sources that they recommend at least a 650w power supply for this card. Do you think the 500w power supply is too risky in the long run
Well it is ok with the hp. it's all in how the wattage boils down. How much the cpu, motherbaord, gpu and drives use. The hps only allow 65w cpus and mother board at most with the cpu use 120-140 watts. Also what is recommended vs tdp used is what is importin. If you had a normal pc you built your self you can stick 10 hard drives 8 ssd 3 m.2 and 4 or 8 sticks of ram. and if your mother board supports it more then a 65watts cpu most due support that. so say you stick a i9 in 95watts or 120 watts versions. Your going to pull over 350 watts or more, with just your mother board and drives. You can not do that with the hp. It is limted on drives memory and cpu.

@TechNitWit The 500w psu is unavailable on the HP website, and the prices on eBay are outrageous. Any third party psu options for this rig, besides making the pc and psu separate?
so, you put the case back together --- then ran all the benchmarks with the panel off. Amazing you didn't find a way to add an intake fan, so you don't thermal throttle the parts. Also, thanks for the other video on how to order the larger power supplies; it will definitely help my M01-1024! Too bad they lock the bios on this; but an RX 6600 will be enough for now. 👍

Only downside to the upgrade is if you do it you'll void your warranty because you have to remove the glued on backplate for the CPU. Edit : also removed that wack hard drive compartment as well as that black plate. Also recommended you leave the cord unplugged in the front panel as all it is for is for a annoying green light that flashes on and off non stop and adds about 30 degrees after it being on for a couple hours so highly recommended leaving that light unplugged.
Yeah it does get hot. and doing that you can remove the stupid hp apps

I love Corsair, Fractal, Lian li, Asus, & Antech. Remember you will need to swap Motherboard, PSU & heatsink as well.
That's a snug fit for the PSU. It makes you wonder why hp didn't use the atx form factor in the first place lol. The first thing I did when I got my pavilion was change as many of the screws to the common cross heads. Makes things much easier. Annoyingly though I found I couldn't replace the side panel screw with a thumb screw or at least I haven't managed to get one to tighten. I have a tg01 2170, it’s more on the lower end but I upgraded to a Ryzen 5 3600 from the Ryzen 3 and my computer won’t boot. I went back on the Ryzen 3 and I am not sure what to update on bios, especially with these gp prebuilts. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏
Cool man thanks.. I just order the cheapest refurbished TG01, this gives me some hope for upgrading it to a better gaming pc if I'm not happy with my first experience with the old GTX graphics.
Agree
What do you think about dropping an adapter in with a second m.2? 🤔. Instead of a sata ssd. Or maybe still do an ssd too. If I do the second m.2 I could always use my satas with adapters for gpu power or extra cooling. Maybe the second m.2 would leave more open airspace in that tiny case
a Sata adapter would work, but you may as well do a Sdd, at that point as you will not get any gains from the NVMe For performance. Or if you plan to upgrade to a different computer down the road A Nvme is a good idea for future proofing .
Definitely not getting a new pc for a while. Wife was upset enough. 😂. But I will be upgrading it. Not running windows anymore either. Actually been testing various Linux distros on it. Runs quite well.
Hey, I was wondering if I swapped the case from the 590, would I be able to change the power supply to like an evga 500w or something? I'm not very sure because in the other video you said that only hp psu would work with this PC, I'm really confused. Could you help me? Thank you
If you wanted to do a Case swap. You would need 3 parts Case, MotherBoard & PSU. Then you could Put a 2000 watt psu in if you liked.
@@TNW1337 so after the case swap can I put the new power supply into the new case and it will work when I connect everything? I'm just confused because I don't know if I can put the new psu in the older case because I don't know if it will fit so I'm trying to search for a case compatible with my motherboard and that the power supply will fit
Just got the TG02-0050 for Christmas. Would these upgrades work for that as well?
Yes, it will work.
What is about ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Twin Edge OC? Does that works quicker than Rtx 306ti which I use in my TG01-XXX case?
yes there are 4070 that can work I own the new Zotac and yes it will fit.
Wow! It worked!
Well done!
Does this go for all TG01 models? Granted the parts picker shows up to a 3060ti for me….but if I upgraded to a 500psu would it support the 3070? I just want to make sure
Yes and yes
I have the tg01 0023w with 400psu. Want to upgrade my 1650 super to the 3060. If i use the PNY 3060 Single fan would the 400wpsu be able to handle? I see that HP sells 3060s with 400psu's pre-built...
It will work but I'd go for a dual fan it gets better cooling.
I bought my TG01 with a RTX3060 with the 400W Platinum Plus 80 PSU, the GPU turned out to be a HP OEM with a single fan heatsink. It runs hot though under full load, it can get up to 83C, do you think you can do a cooling mod for the HP OEM RTX/GTX GPUs?
You may be able to take the Heat sink off and add thermal paste or better pads. I am not sure if there is any thing you can do. Maybe the AIO cooler from ID-COOLING ICEFLOW may fit in th case. at this point I think your better of doing the case swap mod. Then adding the AIo I know it is extra money. but the other option was over spending on a Gpu by 30-50%
Yo I know I'm late but I was just wondering if u needed to upgrade to 500w for a geforce 3060 rtx to work, or would it be fine on the original TG01 psu? Thanks very much if u reply to this so late
No need 500w will work with a RTX 3070
My HP TG01 comes with an Intel i3 processor 10th gen. Can I still do the 500 watt and RTX 3070 upgrade?
Can you use any PSU or it has to be a PSU directly through HP? Because I just bought Hp Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-2176z Bundle PC and it has the 3060 rtx and the PSU is only 400 watts but I wanted to upgrade it to a 600 watt PSU that I bought from Best Buy
From HP only.
Question; is that a single PCIE power cable splitting to two for the 3070? Does that single lane have enough capability ?
Great question, HWinfo would be the perfect program.
It is a 8pin To Dual 8pin Spliter It does have enough capacity. They use 14G wire For the one I used, But 16G wire would also be fine as well.
will a zotac geforce rtx 3060 with 2 fans fit?
Silly question, but I have the tg01-2003W and plan on upgrading to that graphics card. Will that psu you upgrade fit mine?
Don’t want to drop the however much on something useless !
You should have the 400w Psu that will support the 3060ti. But it does not hurt having the 500w for extra head room but is not needed.
If I change the motherboard and the case but keep everything else the same in the factory pc. Can I do that and reuse the old power supply in the new case? I saw a video that said the power supply was hp custom and wasn’t compatible with different cases. Do you know if this is true? Thanks you
You would need to swap out Case, Psu & Mobo.
The ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 4060 8GB Twin Edge OC DLSS3 is work in this pc ??
Just finished this install. Got the same gpu cuz it was the best price available...
Gosh you weren't kidding. It's overkill city but giddy good fun. I'm stoked at these recommendations. Following the rest of the upgrade suggestions. Cpu and cooling next.
Question: using ryzen master to increase the clock to 1600mhz caused a memory fail. Cleared cmos and fixed it easy enough. Can i expect the same result if I attempt it again or is there a better solution I'm missing? Did the bios update. Only thing I can think of is the expensive hp 16g 3200mhz drr4 x2... but dang.. there's no cheap hope in that direction
You will need to set the timings on the ram in Ryze master. Remember if you have the 3070 or 4070 you really should not overclock it also it may not like it. Tbh overclocking it you are only gaining 3-5fps is it worth it up to you.
@TNW1337 yeah I accidentally changed the boost clock frequency in afterburner and couldn't figure out why it was going to black screen quick. Fixed it for the most part. Having some overheating issues from all the sexy parts inside but I think I've got a few ideas on what to do. If you have any additional cooling suggestions I'm really eager to hear them! Kinda curious what you think about a 120mm aio in the tg01-0023w with a 3070, 3700x and 32g @3200mtps. I went with all of your premium suggestions regarding the noctua fans and "bad mamba jamba" cpu cooler. The setup is running diablo 4 at ultra settings for 1440p 34". . I think that's why I'm also getting hot in the high asset rendering areas. If I can get this issue solved then pass this rig on to my 16yo big little bro (with autism) it'll be his first real gaming rig. Just wanna make sure most the major concerns are notched off to a stable setup as he's 2 hours away and it's not convenient to go there to resolve minor PC problems. Thanks for everything. Love your channel as I share it with all my fellow omen tweaking enthusiasts
