I'm considering getting my 2 year old Boston neutered solely because of the aggression he encounters at the dog parks from all the neutered dogs. It's gotten to the point where I just don't bring him around any other dogs for fear of him getting mauled... I absolutely wouldn't do it him otherwise. He's perfect in every way. I love my little guy.

Thanks , for providing this information for the mass pulbic. After 6 years of BT ownership I am ready to get him neutered just to prevent some of the issues that old male dogs develop. Still on the fence about, because behavior change is major concern. However my Boston is very playful and not aggressive. The personality change is what has stopped me for over 6 years.
I had my boy Buddy fixed late last year as an 18 month pup. He had started marking the furniture and whilst I’m told it’s 50/50 as to whether it will help, we were one of the lucky ones and I can happily say he hasn’t marked a thing since then!👍🏻
The one problem we did have was he reacted badly to anesthesia... they struggled to get him properly awake!
He should go for his soft palette operation next week but this time a specialist is doing the operation so fingers crossed he recovers better this time!
Overall... imo, if ur not a registered breeder - fix ur baby!
We have our Boston! He’s a 1 1/2 year old rescue! We’re so excited. He is learning the the rules of our house. He has been here less than a week. Our foster family was so good to us us. Yay!,🥳🥳

I got my Boston neutered at 6 years old, only because my mom begged and the vet told her it would stop his excessive peeing. Which it did. The only thing that changed in him was his weight. He was incredibly fit to the point I Thought he wasn’t eating enough but the vet told me that’s just his body’s type and because how active he is. Now he’s more filled up.
All of my males that were neutered in the past were young adults not puppies though . They were all 2+ years old and had been studs . Never saw behavior changes . Fast forward to now. I neutered my 6 year old male who also had been a stud with great house manners . Since neutering however he mounts other males so in retrospect I regret having neutered him as this is an annoying behavior I’ve not experienced.
Our 16 month old Boston is the very best and most well-behaved of the three dogs we have had in the past almost 40 years! All males. The first two were neutered. I’m somewhat disinclined to have it done with our Boston. The main reason is that his wonderful breeder, who is also a relatively new vet, has suggested that neutering is really up to the owner and depends on individual circumstances. And while she clearly does not discourage it, she points out that among other reasons it may not be necessary is that the breed is not generally inclined to roaming and that the odds of certain potential medical problems later on in life are extremely low-not to mention that neutering can lead to other potential problems. My biggest concern would have been the chance of our dog being responsible for helping to create unwanted puppies. But he is in such a securely fenced-in area that it’s pretty much impossible for him to roam, even if he was inclined to do so. Even at his young age, he’s pretty much a homebody who has plenty of space in our backyard to run and play. Anyway, I’m still not completely sure whether we’ll have it done. Why is it that in Europe, for example, dogs are not neutered nearly as much as in the U.S.? Love your videos!
You missed a couple key questions. #1, If you take away the dogs testosterone will it affect the ability to gain muscle? #2 Will the dog gain weight from being neutered? #3 Will estrogen increase and does the dog need to take Hormone Replacement Therapy for the rest of his life? #4, Is there a different procedure that can be performed like a vasectomy?

One thing that was not mentioned in this video is that this is a surgery and there are always risks. Just over a week ago I had my male neutered and we chose to do this because he was marking objects in our new house. Everyone told me this is routine and it will be fine but my Boston ended up with a scrotum hematoma. This is pooling of blood in the scrotum and his was probably the size of an orange. That is big for a Boston. He is doing much better now but I wish I would’ve never put him through this process. I would just caution that there are still risks because this is a surgery.
So sorry to hear that. And thank you for sharing! Yes, there are unfortunately issues that can arise from any surgery and this is something we as dog parents should consider.
Great video as always. I think spaying and neuturing is a good idea if the dog will not be used for breeding. No need to have unwanted litters. Ive found that it makes males less aggressive to each other. It does irritate me tho when vets say its a way to avoid testicular cancer. You can say that about any body part. If you take out your brain youll never get brain cancer. Lol well of course thats true but not a reason to start pulling body parts.

Hi, We have a 21 week old male boston who was the runt of the litter. I rescued him at 10 weeks old as he was apparently surrendered because he had aggressive issues.....well at 21 weeks, he's still a bit small, weighing about 9.5 lbs but is not aggressive at all...he does get grumpy when he's very tired...like all toddlers. My question is: being that small, is 6 1/2 months too young to have him neutered?
My Boston Terrier is 10 months old and is two weeks out from neutering. He’s been acting crazy especially in the evenings. He’s wild and almost like a child meaning he will not settle down or relax. Should I be concerned?
My first Boston was neutered at 7 1/2 months, my second was done at 9 1/2 months old.
Did any behavior change?? Are they still hyper? I’m debating on neutering mine.
@@christinak2840 My first one was rambunctious just about his whole life, he could be hyper but relaxed too. My second has calmed down so much since being neutered. Before my second was neutered he tried to run out every time the door was opened, that has completely stopped.

I have a three month old Boston Boy, I’m debating to neuter him at 9 months. He’s not gonna be a round other dogs except two other older male dogs, Ive had other dogs in the pass and never got them neutered so my question is if he’s not gonna be around other dogs that much is it worth neutering? Ive heard of pros and cons but I’m not convinced with any, the testicular cancer is more likely on older dogs , so im stuck

Very informative video, but my lord that price range she gave 200-400 might be true in some parts of this country, but in/around nyc you can triple that.

@@BostonTerrierSociety The Boston is just fine. My husband had an extended period of emotional "ghost pain," that is, emotional pain where the removed part was. He thought it was tragic and wrong to remove his testicles, but he wasn't the one getting humped or having to clean up the marking. He clearly identified with the dog!! and expressed the grief the dog must have felt at losing his "manhood," or "doghood," as the case may be. lolol
Too many unplanned litters in the world. If everyone would spay/neuter their PETS there’d be many many many less animals needing to be euthanized....be responsible. There are low cost clinics if cost is a issue for you~ask around.
The vet said I should neutered my Boston because of his prostate getting enlarge. He is two years old and I don’t wanna do that to him but they making it song like he need it ASAP. What you guys think?

I grew up w dogs and have never seen testicular cancel on a dog in my life time. Maybe the in and the amount of Vaccines today?
Vaccines have nothing to do with cancer.
Think about it if that were true they’d call it a cure.
I too have had quite a few intact males and none ever experienced testicular cancer

JannieJean• Jellybean well when they live with you and don’t have health issues there’s no reason to believe they developed a cancer . Owen was neutered at age 8 . He was euthanized at age 11 . He had stomach cancer
JannieJean• Jellybean as a responsible breeder you don’t allow breedings so it was that hard to keep them away from females . I do see the point of having mixes spayed and neutered as they are what fills our shelters . I check all of the area shelters and it always saddens me at the number of unwanted dogs due to irresponsible pet owners 😔
