WHAT IS TALK HEATHEN?
Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
Talk Heathen is filmed in front of a live studio audience every week at the Freethought Library of the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

I love it when Christians use the word “indoctrination” when referring to another group.

the process of teaching a person or group to accept a set of beliefs uncritically

Mad respect to the hosts for demonstrating unbelievable amounts of patience with this woman.
I wouldn’t have been able to deal with this level of sheer, inherent ignorance with such composure
She well might be some how retarded , BUT , whether by guesswork or other-wise shes right about 9/11. On this account ,( may) be a CIA asset , used to debunk the truth----
--by way of usual ploy of deriding the truth by crazed association.
Wait...everything’s a conspiracy EXCEPT religion?
People who believe in conspiracies generally value their own personal experiences above all else. Christians often believe that they have a personal relationship with Jesus, so it fits pretty neatly into the non-conspiracy part of their brain. Indoctrination also plays a big part in that as well.
Of course. Everything except my personal flavour of this particular tribal cult is a conspiracy to destroy my personal flavour of this particular tribal cult. Logic.....
I love that... every one else is wrong except for the one's who actually are
and the really fn sad part... is that people are believing the friggin nut jobs! makes me shake my head "what the fk is wrong with ppl!" you know?
Ray Soyars unfortunately, we now live in the disinformation age. You can go online and find literally ANY theory you want that might gel with your preconceived ideas. I wonder if google adapts to this over time as well? Does the search engine just drag people deeper into the shitfuckery of the webs once it realises that the quest is for more rubbish “facts”?
This is what happens when people like Ken ham educate children!
Yep!
Is Ken Ham also an anti-vaxxer, a flat-earther, and someone who does not believe in psychology? And does he actually speak in tongues? I mean, I know he's horrible, but this woman seems to bring whole new levels of horrible to the table! She actually sounds as if she might have received her education from Ken and Barbie! I wouldn't be too surprised if she thinks her Barbie dolls spoke to her in tongues!

@Timothy Mostad I know you posted this a month ago but when I read this comment I thought. "Sounds more like a mental illness caused by brain-washing/self brainwashing. Theory: what if for some people religion is as much as a mental illness as D.I.D. and people create religion to protect themselves.
Boy, you've got that right.
"You are like my entire bingo card filled out..." That was a good one😂
Danielle takes such joy in sharing her beliefs, and holds them with such pride. She loves belonging to her special, elite club with secret, insider knowledge. Big serotonin and oxytocin hits. Becomes a security blanket. Then a crutch. Then a necessity. Then part of her identity.
Nicely said. But now I want to join her club. I’m just getting into this channel. Little binge watching here.
"Everything I've been researching says..." This is a huge part of the problem - people think research consists of just browsing the Internet with absolutely no understanding of information quality.
Well there are a lot of disinformation out there, even from the "authorities".
@@danielj233 What kind of authorities? Since that is a very broad definition.
@Marco Creen Acting the role of an astrophysicist? He has a phd in Astrophysics. So.. what acting?
@@curious5661
It's supposed to be a broad definition by mentioning the authorities , the disinformation is not from just 1 source, but plenty. And there are plenty of old conspiracy theories that actually were in fact true, before they were revealed to be true, those conspiracies were ridiculed by common people and the authorities.
Also doesn't help when people actively search for stuff that backs up their beliefs.
I bet that she ignores anything that goes against her beliefs.
Danielle has to be one of the most incredibly delusional callers I have heard.
"Then I studied for 20 minutes and became a pilot..."
"If humans run on electricity, why don't we electrocute ourselves in the shower?"
"If a human and a ape got married..."
"I think we all agree that the physical is energy, slowed down..."
"So I listened to God. And with a razor blade in one hand and my scrotum in the other, I..."
"...and that's when the cougar attacking me turned into a rock."
There's competition. There's competition is what I'm saying.
Keep her talking until the medics arrive.
One of? It’s hard to believe that there are humans who could be more delusional than this. God truly does wonders for his sycophants.
You haven't listened to Victor The Troll, have you?
And sadly, the most honest.
"I've done a lot of research..." = "I've googled a lot of crazy shit I already believe."
"She has talked to doctors that agree with her on these things?" She's being dishonest.
Maybe she meant witch doctors?
Absolutely dishonest!
She says it to the doctor and the doctor goes 'hmmmm' and moves on. That doesn't mean agreement.
@@snsnplpl She might mean she's heard some video about doctors saying whatever about vaccines. Like the guy who said the MMR vaccine was dodgey so he could push his own individual vaccines and became a conspiracy talking head for profit.
Not necessarily, I work in Healthcare and I have met tons of incredibly stupid or naive doctors and nurses. When covid was in its prime, we had to fire about 1/4 of the nurses on staff and at least 1 doctor for refusing to get vaccinated or wear masks. These were people who have been in the field for years and years. Can't fix stupid even with years of training and school.
This is literally disturbing to listen to. We are in trouble as a species.
Have a look at Nathan Thompson getting arrested for flattarding to children at school .
@Dashing Dave No. Her name is SJ Thomason.
Something tells me that this idiot doesn't even believe she's part of the same species.

Will Serrano we now live in the misinformation age. We access to more knowledge than people have ever had in the history of humanity, and we end up with this shit happening.....I can’t facepalm hard enough.

I asked a flat earther to play basketball the other day... he brought a frisbee.
Whenever I think, "Nobody can be *that* stupid...", I'm proven wrong.
Idk how her friend was her friend. I'd lose my mind...
Can we start teaching kids from a young age how to properly research something? Typing what you want to hear into google is not research.
Joseph Williams When I went to school they taught me how to do research. But I did see a lot of other kids not really pay attention. These people are probably those kids.
We MUST.
I have been vocal about this for 20 years now. I think we need something like "Internet hygiene" starting in elementary school and covering everything from when and how to share pictures or information about yourself safely, over how to consume media responsibility, to how to research information and weed out bullshit.
More generally, we need a format of education which would stop stressing information alone, and start putting more stress on how to consume information critically. It is good that I know the French revolution happened in 1789. But I would much rather be able to explain WHY it happened, what effects it had in the short and long-term, and how we can critically consider it.
Google says your wrong.
TheNate206 😆
But we all do it. We all have a problem with confirmation bias.
I always find it amusing that people who have never set foot on a college campus make broad claims about "professors."

I don't understand why Eric is so excited by it, because she is clearly not willing to listen to reason and logic. The fact that people like her are out here voting is not exciting, it's horrifying.
I wish they'd pressed her harder when she claimed she "worked" with doctors in the Navy, because I'm curious if that actually includes talking to them about vaccinations and autism. I'm willing to bet it didn't. Therefore, working in close proximity with doctors is completely irrelevant if she did not get their opinions on the topic she's trying to convince us of.
I also wished they'd asked her how she knew about Socrates and Aristotle or whoever she said. I'm willing to bet she heard of them at one of those universities she doesn't trust.
But the most disturbing part was when she said she talks in tongues. I'm sorry, but I seriously think anyone who claims they can do that is either faking or they are schizophrenic. And that might explain why she doesn't like psychology. Schizophrenics usually weave horrible fantasies about psychologists and psychiatrists abusing them, so they don't want to go anywhere near them.

Aluminum, barium and other metal particulates ARE 100% being sprayed into our skies. This is from a critical thinker who has done thousands of hours of studies. Question EVERYTHING!

Sounds very much like the level of "research" this woman was blathering on about.
@MrAbletospeak You can see what?
@MrAbletospeak Really? And how did you come to this conclusion?
I really appreciate her endearing character. Bless
I'm glad for all the crazy things this woman believes, she's open, honest, and communicative. So many callers go bat-shit when you break down their ideas, she actually talks and listens.
*Cognitive dissonance intensifies *
A brain on a high dose of religion. All of her crazy claims are based on an extremists orthodox view on christianity.
When she went completely silent after "I'd rather my child have autism than die from preventable diseases". You could almost feel the cognitive dissonance. I hope that sparked a thought that maybe she was on the wrong side of the argument.
she didn`t even get the churches/bars example, she was gonna start lecture them about churches doctrine. How is that even possible? 🤦♂️
What you should have maybe asked: ” Did you cherry-pick evidence?” “Did you only count hits and not misses?” “How do you compensate for biases?”
These are mistakes I do all the time, and I’ve studied philosophy of science. Laymen usually aren’t aware these things even exist.
It’s ok to be wrong. But your epistemology should not be badly broken.
'how do you compensate for biases' is a good one. i wonder how danielle would have answered that
Information is like a gun. Very useful in the right hands, an existential threat in the wrong.
Great questions indeed
I once knew a woman who told me “dinosaurs never existed.” I must admit, I was astounded.
i keep running into peaople saying NWO is a conspracy THEORY instead FACT despite fricken event 201 operation contagion eta eta!

"I´ve been researching this..." - WHERE?!

This call terrified me....
@@ohasis8331 Me too. It's a waste of a life.
Shook me too
America is a scary place
I KNOW! I can't understand why Eric is so excited by it! I would have been excited only if they had succeeded in making her change her insane opinions, but they didn't! Not even a little bit!
I think a first step is stop letting these people claim they “researched” something, or that they did “research”. They didn’t do research. They read some blogs and Facebook posts and watched some CZcams videos that played to their fears and biases. Not a one of them “researched” anything. They merely collected some anecdotes and rhetoric, most of which they do not understand at a fundamental level.
This lady has a loooooooooooooong way to go... she has all her work ahead of her.... mentally, she needs to start over!
Her logic was like a skin tag that detached. She's so lost she doesn't even see it.
And in the US NAVY!!!-How did the recruiting Command let this wack-job slide thru?
@@kathyheitchue6069 Right you would think that you were in the military and that you would hop on the vaccine train for the sake of children and live long and not just that but also that way you learn so much more with medical information. If Danielle was in Africa and other countries then she should have known that some of those children are starving, dying and barely getting any medical help. Where's her so called "god" there? Being around doctors, sounds like she didn't learn anything there or it just went over her head.
All that education wasted.
Lord, sunsets alone. The standard model the flat earthers use predicts that the sun doesn't set but rather just disappears while it is still high in the sky as the "spotlight" points someplace else. You can disprove the flat earth model twice a day just looking out the window.
Critical thinking needs to be taught in elementary school. That's what this video boils down to. Don't wait till college, it's too late by then.
Who's blessed? Show some individuality and not stick to that archaic platitude. When I told someone I was 59 and my mom and dad where still alive, together and healthy, automatically I "was blessed". No fortunate is what I am
How in the hell can somebody like her be in the Navy, but at the same time be a flat Earther? Just about every person in the Navy can tell you that the Earth is not flat.
Just about every person on Earth can tell you that the Earth is not flat.
@@iamteslaspigeon6438 I know right. It's like these Flat Earthers just want to deny what we know now because they are stuck in a cult of some kind that brainwashed them into this kind of thinking.
I think she made that up because she also claimed not being able to hold a job before she encountered her preferred Christian deity.
Danielle
Sharp as a bowling ball 😂
It hurt me so bad to hear she was a Corpsman. So many lives have been saved by Navy Corpsman. So many knowledgeable people I know who have gone on to be Nurses, PAs, and Physicians.
I also did know a Corpsman who believed that blood was blue until it touches the air.......
You cannot judge based on a non-comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. Continue to learn, expand your understanding but know you can never know everything.
Also blood is red, vacancies svae lives, the earth is spherical, and Corpsman are heros.
Thank you for your service Danielle, keep an open mind and live a happy life.
I’m absolutely flabbergasted. My head hurts from trying to comprehend what I just listened to.
Feel sorry for this lady to be honest. As much as her ideas sound ludicrous, she seems honest on her beliefs .... unfortunately.
Tiago Scherer yeah I really feel sorry for her and at the same time I feel like she should never be allowed to influence our future generations children
