Canadian with chaotic energy, D20 for a logo, and playing a criminally underrated game? Sign me up!
I'm a pretty specific niche, that's for sure! 🤣
i can only imagine a 1800's miner slowly drifting into madness talking to people who arnt there with this guy
That's awesome, and 100% fitting for some of the weird tangents I end up going on!
The hunger penalty for being outside that you were thinking of is only if it's cold out.
Ah, that makes sense! The server I played on was almost always winter whenever I got a chance to log on, so I didn't get to experience the world in summer very often after the other players had gone through the growing season.
Really hyped for the eventual castle/town progress, it helps that my focus is on big builds in that other block game :) . I find that chiseling and the other systems that add smaller details really gives the builds a more lively feel, gives the base game much more depth I think. Seeing bigger builds, like for example, towns, with lots of micro-detailing is always awesome. Keep up the good work!
Thank you, I'm hyped as well :)
I really want to have that fine level of detail to each of the buildings and structures, so I'm glad you're looking forward to it!
Ruins have cellars now, might be good idea to dig down if possible
Thanks for the tip, I'll take a trip around to the ruins I've found so far to check under the cobblestone!
I'm loving the different accents, you're really good at it too! You'd be a great storyteller I think. I would love to see what kind of shenanigans you get up to with others. Just going by your voice you sound like a real fun guy (a mushroom if you will ;P)
Funny enough, I was just playing as a myconid NPC in a D&D game I'm running. He has the voice of Salad Fingers lol
also the salt/halite was near the resin tree you marked in the first episode. it was within seeing distance.
That's why I wasn't too worried about not having marked it, it's too memorable a spot to miss lol
Honestly, with all that gravel around, I'd have just panned for all the copper.
I could have, but with all of those veins now marked, it makes it much easier to go mine out a whole bunch :)
the patience needed fot that ,one must be saint like
Dont worry, copper will always be dear to your heart when you remember its a cheap nail for chests and large doors/gates.
This land has the same color scheme as mine, except i have slate.
Anyways, this was nice to watch during my break and stretches. Back to playing with a laser welder. Keep up the good work/content!
Oh absolutely, once we're swimming in copper it'll always be the goto for nails and anything else that doesn't require specific metals (except for lanterns, those have to be color coordinated)
Your eco-friendly dirt-made condo would cost ~700k in Toronto.
With that square footage, lakeside property just steps away from the ocean? I think the land itself would start around 1.5mil! Though I guess oceanview property would be closer to 4mil in Vancouver lol
RIGHT at the begining we can see you have limestone in the area you are setting up. With what you found in Ep1, and what is in this episode, you have one of the best seeds i have ever seen.
Yeah I got exceedingly lucky with how local a ton of useful resources are! Some rock types I've had to travel out a good ways to find, but otherwise I have most things on my doorstep!
i saw fish too. they might despawn at random if in the shallow parts of the water maybe. i don't have the game yet so its just a guess. i would dig all small ponds at least 2 blocks deep to see if it keeps the fish from despawning again just to be safe.
Yeah, it's a little odd unless they just have a despawn timer. If something else came along to eat them, there would be fish bodies/bones left behind.
16:55 😂 ok, I was thinking that that particular voice sounded remarkably like a Matt Mercer NPC, but now I'm convinced it's not a coincidence
Now that you've pointed it out, all I can hear is Pumat! 😂
I guess some of my go-to voices are pretty similar to some of Mercer's lol
@@Solstin Well you're in good company!
@@theanyktos Maybe I'm a simulacrum that got away lol
@@Solstin haha maybe
Oh yes I'm always here for these series
I'm glad you're liking it so far! I've got so many ideas for builds that I fear for the safety of my chiseling hand!
Loving this content!!
Thanks! I'm having a lot of fun making it :)
“I can’t believe it’s not butter” Really got me!😂 along with the whole sequence. 🔥🧈
😄 I just let the stream of consciousness take the wheel!
You're silly. I think I'll keep watching! :D
Gotta keep it silly when I'm just a silly little guy :P
You can domesticate goats and deers. Deers is funky because you can trap them, feed them, and they will reproduce. But theirs no generations with them. Also they provide less of everything compared to other domesticated animals.
So deer are pretty similar to rabbits in that regard then!
@@Solstin yea, I started with 2 deer. I feed them flax seed in a small trough and I’m at 9 now. I do it just to have them.
Keep your torch put away until needed, it increases your hunger. This map looks stinkin gorgeous 🤩 also I can’t wait for the color palette, whatcha gonna build ?!
Haha yeah I should probably keep my offhand clear when I can, especially when food is still scarce!
As for builds, I'm planning a large castle built into the side of the mountain along with a surrounding town and harbor. Going to try to have each building have a functional use, so a tannery, a blacksmith, a tailor, etc. Apart from conglomerate for the castle walls, I haven't settled on any specific palette quite yet, but there's a few ideas percolating :)
@@Solstin awesome, I’ll be here for commentary and a Play by play of the knuckleheaded Ness 😂 Dude I’m so playing this again because your freaking boiler works for my lazy azz. I’ll give you my secret pit of delusions later. Great Content ! (Discord?)💪🏻❤️✌🏻
I'll probably end up coming up with a slightly modified boiler room for this series to account for the 1.19.3 change where rocks on the ground don't stop drifter spawns anymore.
As for a discord, I've got one listed in the video description. It's a sleepy little server, but it's there lol
something about your narrative voice that reminds me of The Firesign Theatre's nick danger. Enjoyed the vid, thank you.
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it :)
I'm not familiar with Nick Danger but I'll have to look him up
What the HELL is this seed? Salt, chalk, meteoric iron, limestone and now fricking bauxite are you kidding me? This is the best seed I've ever seen!
Edit: and a geyser and bees. Bruh
I think I found borax somewhere within a few hundred blocks too, the seed ended up being incredible! It's a shame that ore placement generation is randomized even when generating the same seed. The landforms and rock types will be pretty well the same, but I don't know what the odds were of that salt pillar being there!
Really excited for the castle builds later on in the series
Same! Now that we'll be able to start making some nails and strips and a saw, we can get trunks and crates to store the thousands of stone blocks we'll need to break ground on building!
Metal tools, nice! This game looks amazing
There's so many in-depth mechanics to Vintage Story that it's a real breath of fresh air :)
Nice!
Thanks!
Caribou can be domesticated irl, that’s what reindeer are.
If the preview images for the 1.20 update are showing what I think they're showing, we may just be getting that in the next big update!
Super exciting news tbh.
i don't know if you know this, but you can just put in /waypoint add [color name] [waypoint name] into the chat to instantly add a waypoint where you're standing! you'd still have to go into the map to customize it, but that could save the hassle of pixel-hunting if it's something that bothers you
i haven't watched your whole video yet, but i've very much enjoyed it so far so i think i'll put it on in the bg while playing vintage story myself! it's nice to see more people enjoying this cool game (❁´◡`❁)
Thank you so much!
I know about the waypoint commands, but for some reason I prefer the GUI of the map marker menu lol. It might be the clickity clack of the typing sounds
@@Solstin I understand! I got myself a nice big clickity clackity USB keyboard to go with my laptop just because I enjoy the noises, too xD
@@blueblynd685 I may have to look into a quieter keyboard at some point though since my mic always picks it up loud and clear haha
I would get mad without the "Auto Map Markers" Mod 😂
I've thought about putting that on, but if I'm not manually placing the markers myself, I feel like I'd forget 😅
Gotta watch out for dem moose on day back roads eh!
Oh fer sure there eh bud, yeh can just be out fer a rip and it'll sneak right behind yeh, eh!
Could've just plonked the storage vessel beneath / between your hay balls there and you'd have a 1x1x1 cellar for it...
Could've also spent the night with making more storage vessels instead of wasting time by sleeping.
I didn't even think about using the decorative hay stack as a mini cellar, that wouldve been a great idea!
As for making more vessels rather than sleeping, that's entirely valid and would have been a more efficient use of my night. I'll did end up making another, but I'll make more once I've got more food to store. Chests in episode 4 will be the main storage method for everything else and being efficient will come in time.
@@Solstin Chests or trunks?
And yeah, sleeping is basically a waste of time in vanilla VS and there's almost never a need for it.
As for the cellar, even put in the ground you could've topped it with a hay block, since they're very fast to break. Easiest makeshift trapdoor to have in the early game.
@@Dark__Thoughts Chests for the first few so I can relocate them with the carryon mod, then trunks when they're in a more permanent location
Love this series so far!!!
Love the game, but sadly... the jump scares from wolves and bears are to much for me. I've set creatures to passive, but one day I will man up. 😅
You made me laugh, too. I needed that, thanks!
Totally understandable given how immediately deadly both bears and wolves (even ornery rams for that matter) can be in the early game!
@@CarnivoreChris89 Hopefully you'll find many more humorous moments throughout the series! :)
You funny, me like.🐱
You like, me glad. :D
I KNEW OTHER PEOPLE SAID DONT RISK IT FOR THE BISCUIT!!!!
It's a good phrase! It probably shows my age a bit, but I like it lol
@@Solstin I didn't even know it was a old phrase mate, people don't even know what I mean outside my family 😆, they just say ita cute or funny mate lols, wheres it from?
Also you just made my day replying! Lols
@@gildedravenvideos3937 I've never looked up where it came from, but I've always just had it in my vocabulary! No idea where I first heard it, either
@@Solstin Well that's awesome! I'm so glad others use it, it's a wonderful wacky phrase that should be used more often! Because I definitely do risk it for a biscuit in real life especially for a cookie! Lols! 🤣
keep it up
Keepin'!
Now that we've got the means to gather large amounts of metal, things will start to take off into the building stage pretty quickly. Just have to get a decent sized farm up first so we don't spend the winter screaming from starvation haha
The keyboard clicks 🥴😂
Entertaining though, subbed🫶
Haha yeah, I'm contemplating investing in a quieter keyboard. I haven't been able to find a sweet spot for the mic to pick up my voice while not picking up the clickity-clacks lol
@@SolstinHonestly I prefer when the mic picks up the mouse and keyboard sounds. The nice high end setups have a kinda sterile feel to me, feels more like something you'd watch on TV than a CZcams let's play if that makes sense
Lol! Omg the accents! The delightful, nonsensical accents!! 😂😂
Those are a constant for me lol
I had an idea to start a segment for times where I'm doing a lot of big mining expeditions and such where people can request a line of dialog to be read out in a certain type of voice/impression.
It gives a WORLD of personality and amusement to your content, not just the playthroughs! VS is a pretty intense game, especially at the start where just surviving is huge struggle. So having that little splash of humor is refreshing! Perks you up and keeps you going. And it kinda helps if you happen to be talented at it too. All the kodos and thumbs up!@@Solstin
Thank you! I dont think I could stop myself from inserting silly voices here and there, even if I tried!
I have been trying to get goats in my world so I can have dairy, hurts so bad to see you slay your cheese
Hunger does things to a man. Dark things, desperate things.
I'm sure they'll be back by the time I'm ready to start domestication and milking!
2:52 You sounded like Neuvilette from Genshin
10:44 unexpected scottish accent
14:52 all these voices and accents, are you a VA?
Haha technically yes, just not one with any credits yet lol
!
How did you place that fire starter on the ground and the other tools? Is that a mod?
No mod needed! You can lean pretty well almost any tool against a wall by shift+ctrl+right clicking on the ground. Some taller tools/weapons, like spears, need a 2 block high wall to lean against.
@@Solstin Ah, yes. I just found out myself as well. This is such a neat feature. It doesn't clutter the inventory and it looks good 😍
@@pythooonuser It just feels right :)
And helps clear out your inventory without filling up your storage early on!
