the work on your kitchen is the buzz of the town 🤣
All the building materials traders are going to love me and my desire for brown clay bricks XD
The kitchen looks absolutely amazing!
Thanks! I had a lot of fun designing it in creative before finally getting to put it together here in survival!
Excellent chiseling, simple and beautiful! I love seeing people’s clever ways of making functional stoves, cabinets and so on.
Thank you! A lot of the builds that'll eventually form the town will be fairly quaint and cozy. Once the castle gets underway... well that's where it'll get fancy and full of grandeur!
@@Solstin I’m looking forward to it!
I like how your editing progressively gets better :)
Keep it up!
Thank you, I keep trying to improve bit by bit every time!
The key ingredient was going overboard with 11.5 hours of footage to edit down for this episode lol
Aye man, it was worth it :) @@Solstin
Hm, I never considered "over" recording.
@@HallyVee The 'between the episodes' montage was about 6-7 hours of footage as I just collected resources, smelted, and occasionally cooked meals. Might have been overboard, or might have been prepared to have any clips I'd possibly need! I guess that's a matter of perspective lol
quickly becoming my favorite vintage story content creator, so enjoyable to watch!
and the jokes are so good
Haha thank you! Some of the joke bits are just a stream of consciousness that sometimes I don't even realize what I said until I'm watching it back in editing lol
Love the kitchen! An idea for Sol says - in a Canadian accent: “If you’ve got a problem with Canada Gooses, you’ve got a problem with me. I suggest you let that one marinate. Also, remember those ‘Cobra Death chickens’ come in packs, and I don’t mean two-fours.”
XD Those cobra chickens are always out lookin for a fight
Wow, that chiseling really opens up some possibilities. Great build!
Does it ever! Almost the entirety of the Temporal Institute set is chiseled. Being able to work with every block being a 16x16x16 canvas really let's the imagination go wild :)
Really cool seeing your kitchen idea come to life Anxiously waiting to see what other ideas you have to make that house a home
Well the first thing is going to be getting the walls up on the second floor and probably a roof before winter lol
I doubt any single room will be spared from the chisel!
I was blown away a month ago when I came across this game and saw someone chiseling insane , blew me away like Emprion did when I saw people building and designing their own space ships in a servival game .
Chiseling adds such a huge level of customization, love it
That kitchen is super impressive...blown away...
Thank you! Once I clutter up the shelves and countertops it'll look even cozier (and get the sink put in haha)!
Wow, you've already done more chiseling than I have on my base. Haha the base is looking good.
I burnt through my copper chisel partway through, and very nearly a tin bronze chisel after that! I'm glad you like the look so far. Chiseling is probably my favorite aspect of the game lol
@Solstin mine too. You can make anything if you have the right colors and patience
Love the kitchen! Still feels like vintage story which i appreciate!
I feel like the chiseling is what really keeps it feeling uniquely like Vintage Story when it comes to a build time-lapse. Also keeping with the old timey feel helps.
I'll keep the CRT TVs and projector screens to the Temporal Institute series lol
I jumped when the bear suddenly popped up in the beginning. Gave me PTSD of starting a new world and one suddenly appearing.
Oh boy do they do a metric ton of damage! Even with a mod to make them noisier, they still manage to sneak up somehow...
That is the coolest darn kitchen I have ever seen in a game ever
Thanks so much! It's just the start of what will be a long line of detailed rooms and buildings :)
I LOVE making chiseled blocks into decorative facades for kitchen stuff. Although.. I usually put the blocks in front of the chests and chisel them down flat. I’ll have to remember your underside technique: it’ll cut my block usage down from 2 to one blocks needed
If you’re going the dying route, I think the blue or purple Gambsian look the best! At least, those are my color choices
That's the beautiful thing about chiseling, there's an infinite number of ways to go about doing it! The method I used leaves the countertops usable so for this instance I felt it was best. I can definitely see some good use cases for the method you use, though!
When the montage started my jaw dropped! Such clever use of materials and Vintage Story's customizability. I need more lmao
I'm flattered, thank you! Once I've worked my way up to iron tools I'll be able to gather enough materials to do more than a single room at a time. That's when things will really start taking off for builds :)
Wow, that is a GORGEOUS kitchen. I may have to shamelessly steal some of these concepts from you! Love the ovens and the in-floor storage... Floorage!
As for your gambeson, you absolutely must go with red, obviously. XD Because it's just so easy to get! ;P
We all know the best DMs shamelessly steal, so I look forward to seeing some floorage in the hobbit house :P
Also, absolutely, red is definitely the easiest gambeson color to get. It's just cinnabar, how much could it cost? $10? XD
This series has been nothing short of inspirational. Thank you.
Thank you so much! Glad I can serve as a source of inspiration :)
Meanwhile I'm still living as a medieval pheasant. Amazing work. I'm betting a few chisels were consumed in the process.
Thanks! A copper chisel and most of a tin bronze chisel were worn down in the making of the kitchen, but definitely worth it.
Looks good so far! Now historically, a lot of gambesons just used the natural color of the linen, but there are plenty of artistic depictions showing all different colors of the rainbow. Red was popular, as was yellow, since those were pretty easy colors to get the dyestuffs for.
Personally, I’d go for a brown or a green gambeson, but that’s because I’m incredibly basic and still run around in the woods like a gosh-darn lunatic. I’m sure there are other colors lol
Haha I can see brown or green being a very 'stealth mode' kind of armor in the forests! (If only that had any mechanical effect lol)
That is some impressive chisel work! I think chisel tools added chiseled chests and storage vessels recently so you might be able to make the cabinets be their own storage.
Thank you!
I touched on chiseled storage in another comment, but the option with the chisel tools mod would leave the countertops (which I kept calling shelves for some reason) unusable as a surface to put things on. I know I'll find a use for that feature one day, especially for chiseled storage vessels!
@@Solstin Good to know. I will keep that in mind for my kitchen when I build it soon.
@@sebastianholcroft2549 Let me know how it turns out, I'm always interested to see some chisel work :)
Heads up, you got Glass Sleep Doors rather than glass sleek doors
Whoops! Don't know how I've gone 5 episodes without noticing that, I'll have to fix the typo. Thank you for pointing that out!
Man, the building talent on display here is incredible. Beautifully done, you're my favorite VS CZcamsr now!
Thank you! I'm currently prepping for a couple of big building-focused episodes so plenty more coming down the pipeline!
LOVE the cabinets and the ovens were nice! as for the color of the gambeson i vote (in order) Orange, Green, or Brown.
Thank you! Little hidden slots to add function to chiseled blocks will very likely be a recurring theme in the series :)
I have to confess, I laughed at the bear joke...
Puns are one of the most classic forms of comedy for a reason ;D
Any day with a new Solstin VS video is a good day!
:o that's today!
@@Solstin Yes sir!
This is so awesome! Love the details and how the furniture is actually functional. Great job on those!
Thank you! I really enjoy being able to customize a build while keeping it functional :)
Your house is really coming along nicely. Loving this series and I can't wait for the next episode.
Thanks! I've got some ideas laid out in creative that I've started collecting materials for, so hopefully I'll have the house at least weather-sealed before winter hits 😅 🥶
the kitchen was worth the wait! i love your series :)
I'm glad you like it! There's still a couple details I'll be adding once we get iron and leather, as well as having to add in the sink.
I hope you enjoy the future builds!
@@Solstin i'll be following the series for sure! can't wait to see how it looks when you finish :)
2:30 Gravity blocks might work to block it off (make a frame first).
Could've made the wooden lamelar armor. Typically gives you a couple hits of wiggle room.
Putting crocks into vessels does not do anything for their spoil time btw, so you can store them on he ground or in shelves. Not sure if chests have a negative effect on them but that might also be worth a try for easier crock management.
7:21 Could add it to the waypoint name... ;)
Yeah I'll give sand and gravel a try when I get around to messing with lava again!
For the crocks, they'll be on shelves soon enough :)
Really enjoying this series, keep it up!
I'm only just getting started! :D
I just love games like this.
Being able to chisel blocks down really opens up a ton of creative choice options :)
@@Solstin ive never played things like this so it's fun to watch.
Just what the doctor ordered! (Im dying of the flu)
Definitely a lot of colds and flus going around right now. I've got some horsetail poultices in my inventory if that'll help?
Just take 'er easy and have some chicken soup!
This series is rated C for cozy
Oh I like that! It'll only get cozier once our ceiling isn't open to the elements lol
Awesome kitchen
Thank you!
It's released during the weekend!!! Ahhh! Yay! Watching now, will edit when done watching hehe!
HAHA! Man, I kept losing it and chuckling at you saying the ktihen is Mostly, done, because it looked so great already, like literally, the main worry j had when you finally was miving stuff in was if you could put amy items on the counters, to being able to store those items and such.
Also, very happy my name got to be at the end lol, I find it a bit funny how it was only one name, and slowwwwly went up, i personally find it funny anyway.😂😊😊😊
Woo! I hope you like it!
I love it @@Solstin!! I enjoyed the video alot! Hope you got plenty of ready after all that editing though! It came out much quicker than last time!
Surprisingly this one had the largest amount of footage yet, but a lot of the editing process went pretty quick!
I've got tons of ideas still waiting for the right blocks to come along, so this only the first building step toward eventually having a whole castle town!
@@Solstin What! A castle town??? Awsome! Lol, I actually can't wait to see this happen, and the footage was amazing, it really did feel like the replay mod watching lols!
@@gildedravenvideos3937 I'm so happy the time-lapse ended up having the feel I was going for!
And yeah, this little farm and farmhouse are just the first step toward eventually building out a whole port town and a big ol' castle nestled into the side of the mountain!
Nice kitchen! You should either use Salt to Store more meat or get some Livestock. Its quite funny with the reed basket traps!
Thank you!
Salting and pickling galore is definitely in our future with how large of a supply of salt we have just across the water, and at least a small barn is definitely a goal to get done either just before winter, or maybe even during the colder months!
I still say stone and wood for the floor.
That's still where I'm leaning, just still in the designing phase to come up with something that's both nice, but not TOO nice for a cozy little farmhouse.
5:10 So... I take it a drifter can just spawn right next to you? You don't get the "24 tiles around you are safe from spawns" mechanic from The Other Voxel Game? (that, or it came from somewhere else and I missed it).
10:00 The chiseling mechanic is beyond amazing. Even if it 'only' makes decorative blocks, that's still a functionally infinite amount of variety. Add in some means of copying templates within one world, and of exporting/importing between saves, and it's effectively a user-defined decorative block mod.
15:00 So I take it it's not possible to just chisel a chest, hence the decorative 'drawer' on top of an actual usable chest?
22:30 Excellent aiming, where's this 'poor accuracy' you speak of? :D
29:00 You're definitely playing this game more daring than I ever would; I wouldn't be getting out in those conditions, unless I was in danger of dying before morning.
There's no distance buffer for drifter spawning, I think they can even spawn on the same space you're standing on!
With a combination of chiseling and using world edit commands you actually can save schematics to import onto another map!
In vanilla, no, chests cannot be customized, but that's where mods come in! There's an option in the QP chisel tools mod to be able to make chiseled chests. I'm still unsure if I'll use that or keep to building facades over normal chests. The last thing I'd want is for an update to break the mod and lose everything in the chest :o
Wow, Mr Solstin amazing chisel work. This series is getting exciting as the episodes progress. Amazing! Keep up the good work.
Thank you! There's still more chisel work to be done on the kitchen, but that'll be for when we get into iron. Also getting a roof on the house before winter may not be a bad plan...
I'm surprised you didn't turn the chests under your cabinets into trunks for the four extra storage slots. Per the Wiki: "The woad blue dye can be applied to the plain cloth directly. A mordant is not necessary." This early in the game, I think blue is your best bet for a colored armor and there was a lot right next to your bee skep. 4L water + 2 Woad = 4L blue dye. Every other way to dye cloth requires mordant which is crushed cassiterite, crushed chromite, or crushed alum (Commodities Trader sells alum). You may want to check how long it takes to cure (salt) raw meats or brine vegetables to make them last longer for the winter. I couldn't find anything in the Wiki when I tried.
Turning the chests into trunks will happen pretty shortly, I just wanted to keep them mobile with the CarryOn mod until I was solid on their exact placement first.
For dyes, yeah, blue or brown are the only two that don't require having a pulverizer set up to crush minerals for mordant cloth. So either of those or plain may be the best options for the moment even though I like some of the other colour options.
It takes 20 days to salt raw meat iirc, but as long as the meat goes in before it starts to spoil then it's safe. I'll likely do a couple more big hunts to get some meat salting before I build a barn to start raising some animals. Pigs will probably be the priority since they have the largest litters. Can't remember the time for pickling vegetables off the top of my head, but one of the rooms in the basement will be the saltiest room seraphkind has ever witnessed!
@@Solstin Let the salt flow!!
Your kitchen is unreal, looks fantastic! Those stoves with the campfires are so cool, lol. How long did this build take you?
Thanks! I'm not sure how long I toyed around in the planning stage, but after roughly a dozen hours collecting materials while keeping up with food, the building part itself only took a couple hours! (actual building time was less, but setting up shots for the time-lapse is included in that couple hours)
Dark earth tones go well with paler skin tones, my(very late and probably irrelevant) vote goes to forest green.
I ended up going with brown, but green was a close contender!
👍
:)
That kitchen is so stylish, really love the rustic look it has!
Thank you! Once the crown molding and a couple other details are in, it'll come together even better :)
gambeson should be blue to match your eyes :)
Looks like blue, brown, or plain are going to be the easiest choices, so there's a good chance!
Great episode Solstin! I really need to know how you did that Replay style footage though!
Thank you! I had another account logged in on my laptop to fly around using the cinematic camera feature in the game, then cut between that and my first-person footage! :)
It's a little taxing to record from two video capture programs at once, but I only lost minimal amounts of footage.
@@Solstin Does that mean you bought 2 copies of the game? I might have to try that myself since I loved the effect you were able to create.
@@arcwolfgaming That's right! I borrow my wife's account for the 'camera operator' lol
It's the same way I film the Temporal Institute series, just in that one I'm controlling Prof Chert McGert on the laptop.
@@Solstin Well thank you for the tip, also learned a lot about chiseling from your video, now I need to get a ton of resources and plan my next build. Thank you!
@@arcwolfgaming I'd be excited to see what you end up building! Glad my kitchen could serve as a visual learning tool on chiseling :)
36:41 WAS THAT A QUOTE FROM MASTER OF DISGUISE?
Definitely started as one! XD
Woah is there something similar to ReplayMod for VS? I like to make semi-cinematic content and that would be really cool.
Not quite, but I'm working on a video alongside the Eisenholm series that will go over how to replicate ReplayMod, or at least how I manage to achieve the look of my time-lapses! :)
The animation when using a bow elicits in me a weird combination of amusement and annoyance.
The bow goes in your *left hand* and you nock the arrow and draw the string with your *right hand* .
In the game, the bow should go in the avatar's torch-hand slot, at the left, and the *arrows* should go in the hot-bar.
I never noticed that before 😆
@@Solstin I shot recreationally, for years.
@@thomashiggins9320 nice! I'm a decent shot with a crossbow, but put a bow in my hands and I'd be better off using it as a stick lol
love the videos but i don't know if you know that you can make a double chest. it gives you 2x the space + 4 extra slots this way.
Absolutely! I've been keeping them as regular chests so far so I can pick them up with the CarryOn mod and move them around. Now that some of them are in a pretty set spot in the kitchen, I'll be converting them into trunks soon enough!
i forgot the mod only picks up single not double.@@Solstin
@@ijkdenem I can only imagine the move speed penalty if the mod let you carry trunks, sure would be handy, though
Hello sir ! Sorry I wasn't able to watch your videos lately because I was busy with IELTS testing etcetera..
No worries, hope your IELTS tests went well!
@@Solstin will be , the test is on 22 Feb !! And also thank you sir
@@masudni3437 Well I'll be cheering you on!
@@Solstin ⚘️🌷⚘️🌹
Man you need to make a great tutorial on the cam, I can do most things but figure out recording myself lmao
That's a great idea, actually! I might work on a tutorial video like that when I get a chance. :)
@@Solstin PLEASE do. im very curious how to set it all up myself.
For the gambeson I think ether Cyan or Shadivercity Red. Ether of those would look great!
Closest we've got to cyan is either blue or green, but unfortunately not a mix to make cyan, otherwise that'd probably be my first choice! Red is a good choice if I can find some cinnabar to make the dye :)
Help a fellow canuck out, how does chiselling work? is it like clayforming, gradually using up/refunding a material in your inventory?
It's not quite as materially generous as clayforming, especially for having multiple block types in a single space. Each block, even if shaved down to a single voxal, still takes an entire block, and if you accidentally delete all of the voxals, it's simply gone for good!
When merging blocks for multiblock chiseling, like with the countertop cabinets, each one took a stripped pine log, blue clay block, and basalt rock block. It can get pretty expensive but the results can really be worth it!
You can either add non-chiseled blocks with the F menu while holding a chisel, or merge two chiseled blocks together in your crafting inventory (which you can do multiple times to add more block types into a single block).
@@Solstin ok. so you need whole units of whatever you want to add. I haven't reached the fashion portion of playing the game, but it seems real popular.
@@roughgalaxy7990 It's honestly my favorite part of the game with how much customization and creativity it allows for, I highly recommend giving it a try!
have you tried sand and gravel to redirect the lava? also woad blue
I'll definitely be experimenting as I go, and gravel or sand is a great suggestion! I already have a plan to carve a channel for the lava to flow into on its own if needed. :)
@@Solstin cool just the first thought i had lol
Hey solstin, have you seen lord of the rings? (Im assuming theres a good chance you have.) I think it would be super cool if at some point in the series you built like a waterfall village that looks like rivendell! It would be so beautiful!
Also if you have seen rivendell I'd encourage you to still look up pictures because there is some nice inspiration.
@@levigerman8187 I think the sheer scale of Rivendell might be a lot in survival, but I think I could incorporate some elements into the design choices for the castle and some of the surrounding buildings that I've got planned! That, and a waterfall coming from the glaciers on top of the mountain could feed into that lagoon area pretty nicely :)
@@Solstin yeah it would be a big project, great idea though. I love the architecture and look of rivendell so I'm excited to maybe see a beautiful rivendell house someday!
@@levigerman8187 I might try to incorporate something in the castle courtyard similar to the forum where the Fellowship was formed :o
@@Solstin that would be sick!!!
How did u get the fire in there? Is that a mod? I tried emulating the design of your oven exactly. Can’t for the life of me get the fire in there though
No mods needed :)
Behind the handle is an opening to be able to aim at the ground inside! The thing to make sure is that the inside is a full block of empty space for the fire pit to fit in. The stove top is on the 2nd block up from the floor and the doors are on the 2nd block out from the wall.
Hope I'm describing it well enough!
@@Solstin ….ahhh, that makes sense. I ended up making a smaller, less extravagant one than yours since I didn’t plan out my kitchen to have the space for a big one. One would say I made a standard stove. Still works tho. I can just use my fireplace to cook more anyway if I need to. Thanks for the info!
i am curious what the camera mod is.
I'm actually using the cinematic camera on a secondary account, so no mod required! Just a lot of manual setup of shots and pre-planning!
It must bee hard to edit all these videos
I think I hive a handle on stings like this 🤣

I don't know what that means, but... thank you?
