I don't know a better sleeper or daily driver or any car in general then this, literally nothing else, name something better I'll wait, this wins in all the categories, you get all that power and speed, super good mpg for something with that much power, it's very very comfortable, very soft, handles well, super fun to drive, lots of space, you can road trip in it with your whole family no problem, its super reliable, doesn't get loads of attention but looks amazing and at the same time it looks like an absolute normal car and it's very reliable and heck! it's faster then most supercars!!! I don't know a better car then this in the history of cars, this is the best thing ever!!! Dream, on day I'll have one like this and build it very similar to this.🤩❤️
Wow. Thank you! It’s is great, and this winter is the going to get better, the Achilles heal was the transmission, and this winter I’m fitting a new gearbox, most likely with manual flappy paddles. Discreetly too. I already have a new fuel pump ready with 8.5mm elements and a few other goodies (screamer pipe) that should improve drivability and potentially it’s performance too. Keep an eye on my channel - all winter jobs 👍😊

mine is ready next week, Luke in doncaster made a piece of poo poo so l built my own. Fuel pump from Goran 8mm, KKD manifold, HX35 turbo MIJ done the exhaust, custom clutch, Bell Performance doine the pipe work all hard piping.
The ultimate example of the best sleeper. Oh it's a old Diesel Merc. Nothing special!😂😂😂😂! Bearly gets up to 183 mph! It truly is a Beautiful Classic Mercedes!
Thanks - in the early days (2016/17 ish) before the cat was out of the bag I would rock upto events 1/2 mile and 1 mile events and people thought i was mad competing in such an old diesel. Most people loved it after the first run, however once the chatty chap who was parked next to me in a modified WRX went and parked somewhere else after I absolutely roasted him in a race...

If you are putting a big pump, big turbo 606 into a W124 then i would highly recommend putting a strong auto in it. I'm doing that this winter and I'll make some vids to show the progress/review. Diff wise you need a 210mm diff from the bigger petrol cars - the 606 will destroy the 185mm ones - i went through 2 mint ones. They were turned to scrap 🙂

Have a look at my build blog on retrorides - look up 1990 superturbodiesel. Tach - take a feed from the w wire and put through a Dakota Tach interface. Speedo - more complicated, you need a electronic speedo from a V8 124 or a w126 speedo (with a new bespoke surround available of the net) then drive it by a Healtech hall effect sensor off the prop or similar. I used a V8 w124 speedo, these are electrotonic. Connected to a hall effect sensor and a Speedohealer. Works beautifully... after i had replaced the gears that had disintegrated in the speedo (a known VDO thing).
Merc box. Hall effect sensor on the rear diff spider connected to a Speedhealer translator and then to a rebuilt 400/420 speedo (electronic). A chap on the net does 3d printed chassis to install W126 speedos (readily available) into 124 clusters.
I have a W210 OM606 with some body rust here and there. I’ve been looking for a donor car for the engine. But I’m on the fence as to what to do. I don’t mind a project but worry to do the install into a W124 may be a bit overwhelming. Any install conversion insights?
Have a look on the retro rides forum - maxypriest w124 superturbodiesel. Most of the stuff is on there, some of it is involving. It’s was expensive to do and if you’re going big turbo - it has to be automatic. 👍

Quaife ATB - not only does it help with traction it also strengthens the diff as it replaces the weakest components. Before that 3rd gear one wheel wonders in the dry were a issue once on boost :-)
if its a 603 i would do the following. Get a 2nd hand turbo and inlet manifold, plumb them in with a small intercooler and send your pump off to have 6mm elements installed. leave the rest alone. That would give you about 200bhp and a car that drives beautifully :-)

Its a electro-mechanical speedo, once it goes over 160 it resets to zero and picks up again once you decelerate past 160. I did not know i would do this until i made that vid! VDO know a thing or too.
The rears are 7.5x16" from a W210 (ET 42 from memory) and the the fronts are 7 x 16" from a E400/420 i think. They are a different shape and clear the large front brakes with a small spacer without poking out of the arches. I'll get you the part numbers if can find them in my notes.
Well spotted! - however I'm moving it forward by an inch so that i can install a low clearance SPAL fan this year. I don't sit in traffic very often so the lack of a fan has never been an issue.
@@maximilianboost8498 OK, i wrote about a thin Spal unit before reply , not very much flow fans, but can work , takes more time for down temp. Somes are 130watt , 16" 3000CFM, Spal type.

2 things lacking from your impressive presentation. First how is the car at idle and how does it sound and second DOES IT SMOKE LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN.? I am tempted to rake the plunge but I hate black smoke coming out of the tail pipe.
Starts and Idles perfectly. Even from cold, that’s never been a issue. Big pumps and big power tend to smoke, small pumps with the small elements are lovely - I have a friend with a 606 Land Rover and a DPUK 6mm pump and it’s a beauty, smooth and 220bhp of smoke free power.

Coolingmist. Simple system that's is either on/off, not graduated at 25 psi. single point injection. Works well for me, however some have had issues with W/M...
@@JoshFox69 No need for adapter plate, some W210 270CDI were 6 speed manual, same block-gearbox bolt pattern as the OM606 , for me is best the W204 220CDI gearbox, reverse linkage has no cable, more simple. Remember I machined near 2mm in the Sprinter flywheel , to fit OK in the crankshaft. Sprinter flywheel-clutch was from Bölk, single mass flywheel kit. Ref: G-061224. Visually can be a Valeo.

At 1:37 the spedo drops fast, like you were locking up the brakes?
It's just freaking out at the high speed- you can hear the car is continuing to accelerate.

SL500 - Front 4 pots + 300mm vented, Rear 2 pots + 300mm vented. Nice upgrade and no fading. The older sliders were cooked after the first hard use...

Is it possible to mate an OM605 turbo to a 717.412 manual transmission?
Google it - someone will have tried. Is the 717 is the old 5 speed (non dog leg)? if so the 605 will destroy it.

Its a SLK 230 6 speed, however the one you want to get is the 716.657 with the sprung loaded reverse.

Its really good! never less that 30mpg and ave 33mpg. Good 350- 400 miles from a tank.

Yes - however it needs rebuilding after 5 year of punishment so will get some forged parts like rods for starters.

Why is everyone swapping this engine in a W124 and not leaving and tuning it in a W210?
Because they consider the 124 to be the prettier car
W124's looks a bit more old school and are simpler. W210s handle LOADS better but are complicated and rust like hell.

SLK 716, however it’s now noisy after 5 years of grief. I have a later 716, which is much stronger however I might go auto… but not ofgear 722.6
