- This is not another general guide; it's a collection of specific tricks and strategies (with maybe a few exploits) to help you through Act 1 in BG3. The info is focused on Honour mode, but many of the tips also apply to lower difficulties. I hope at least some of these are not old news, yet.

I made a short follow-up video to cover some of the comments I got on this one: czcams.com/video/UogU1IM8HjU/video.html
And Act 2 here: czcams.com/video/W3A74hI6xVw/video.html
Such a high quality video, avidly waiting for act 2 and 3! Really enjoyed this content, it looks like a lot of hard effort put into it.
They do take a long time to make, but Act 2 video is in the works. I appreciate the patience hahah
I some how glitches myrkl. I exploded caustic barrels at beginning and he no longer at attacked. Nor would dame Ayline
Honour mode causes people to play the game in the least honorable way possible.
😂😂
xD you need all help you can get
ironic for sure
So true. The amount of times I had to escape the fight with my rogue to revive the party in act 1's hardest fights (like Owlbear, Gnolls etc.) is embarrassing
Gnolls is doable but owlbear calling Mate is just insane. I barely lived by a thread.
If you know a merchant will die, sell him an empty bag and put all his ownings inside. when he die , you'll loot the bag with all you put in it.
Any idea if you can do this on console?

@@ShengFink yeah 🤭
You can also cast calm emotions on your party before tbe Harpie fight to completely bypass their charm. The harpy will remain singing and essentially be useless during the fight.
Excellent point; I probably shoulda mentioned that one, too. I focused on Silence because I wanted to sing its praises throughout the video, for how versatile it is.
That's so dope. I haven't used that spell a single time
@@SlimXG silence is by and large a much more versatile spell and more useful in more situations! Just love to highlight the much more niche spells. Especially if you are able to easily swap them out with a Cleric.
@@vorsadelta7752that's the best part of prepared Spellcasters!
Calm Emotions is freaking clutch in Honour Mode. Never used it before, now I had it save my ass multiple times already. Beyond making the harpy figt trivial, a single Calm Emotions (which has a good AoE and range) removes the Gnoll's Frenzy, so that they will never get their multi-attack. Also removes rage from enemy barbarians (though that's not as important in my experience)
The 2nd spell I can't believe I never used before is Enhanced Ability. I have it on my bard and Shadowheart, meaning just like that I can get advantage in every ability I need (mostly charisma), and can keep up to two active for a whole day! Yes, it requires concentration, but one spell slot is well worth suceeding important checks. Especially since the Friends cantrip is dangerous in Honour Mode, as it can aggro npcs, get you imprisoned and frop reputation. Had to restart a whole run because Friends wore off on Kagha after I saved Arabella, which immediately made her activate the Rite of Thorns and Tiefling purge. Never used Friends ever since. :P
Give us Act 2 and 3. This was amazing... one of the best BG3 videos out there!
Quite the high praise. >.> Thank you. It'll take some time to finish, but I've started writing notes for the Act 2 video.
@@SlimXG Most BG3 videos are either challenges or speedruns. Shorts often funny moments or quick guides.
You made a full list (probably still lacking due to the huge amount of content) of secrets and cheese strats. I would love to see more videos about that. Not only honor mode but everything.
@@sleyana_ "Everything," you say, hmm
Sir... you got talent. Use it. Get a better mic soon and practice some voice acting. Your edit and comedy is great. @@SlimXG
@@sleyana_ Better mic is essential, yes (I had to talk verrrry carefully and do many re-records for nearly every line in the video to compensate for the lousy properties of my cheap old mic). But, voice . . . acting? o_O
My jaw dropped on the shovel tip. I facepalmed immediately. 300 hours in and now I find this out.
This is easily one of if not the best bg3 videos I’ve watched. My recommended really knocked it out of the park with this one. Exactly the type of video I’ve been looking for as I attempt honor mode
Please make one for acts 2 and 3 but I know that’s gonna be a huge undertaking
Well that's quite the compliment (though maybe you've just watched a lot of terrible BG3 videos...)
The feedback on this Act 1 video has been surprisingly positive, so I've started writing out notes for Act 2 (and looking into getting a better mic). But yeah, it will take some time to make the video. Maybe you will have successfully finished your whole Honor run by then!
i wish i knew some of thee before becuse ive been brute forcing my way through the game lol i just hit level 5 and decided to fuck up the goblin camp. this video was great honestly and super super helpful. all the underdark tips is going to be used for sure @@SlimXG
@@SlimXGhonour * we spell things correctly in English
love the ping on the invisible enemies!
Yeah that one is huge. Makes me think they will patch that out somehow though.
Random trivia: That clip of, "Silence!" is from a Jack in the Box commercial, and that's Steve Valentine who played Alistair in the Dragon Age games (as the Earl of Sandwich)
There is also a dagger on the body of someone in the worg pens. Its makes it so all goblins have disadvantage to attack you. Very good for the fights against the goblin bosses and cleaning up the camp after
WOW. Easily one of the best information guides to cruising through Act 1. Even the flow of progression you gave clearly has a lot of thought put into it, particularly the Myconid Colony up to the Creche part.
MASSIVE thanks for the Hag tips too. I've always hated not being able to get the jump on her so I'm very delighted to know that you can still do that yourself.
The hag fight is probably the most complex encounter in Act 1. For all the things I said about it, there's way more I coulda said, but the video is already long enough hahah. Thanks.
@@SlimXG I try to avoid meta-gamimg on most encounters whenever possible, and I handwave that as them not seeing the enemy beforehand- like an actual inverse ambush like the Spectator. (which you also gave a GREAT tip for)
However now that I think about it in retrospect, it's not actually cheesy to get the jump on Ethel. After all, it's very obvious that reaching that part of the Hag's lair is a setup for an incoming fight, and by that point, the party is already made aware that Ethel can go invisible- so it's not "metagamey" for the player to try and one up that.
For the Spectator, I've yet to think of a way to essentially "excuse" the party reverse-ambushing it, so perhaps I won't follow the trick you gave even if it's doable. It's not a super hard encounter anyway.
My first time playing the game, I just naturally snuck around to the bottom and into Ethel's room, because it felt like the roguish thing to do. I still ended up stumbling into her and getting surprised, since I didn't have Volo's eye yet, that first time. But I had already clicked the button to lower Mayrina, so I didn't even know about Ethel burning the cage until I saw it in a video, later.
And yeah, the Spectator fight is obviously designed specifically to surprise you, so there's no way to avoid it in any "realistic" way. The trick in the video is from the mindset of, "Hey, you've done the fight the normal way before, so here's a new way to try it."
Maybe in Honour mode it is harder or impossible. But I sneak around the side of the tea house. From there it is possible to sneak attack Ethel whilst she is telling Mayrina to eat up. A single lightning arrow from stealth does 150 damage and kills her midst transformation. You shoot Ethel and roast the Hag. Looting the rest of her lair is a doddle from there on.
Why these tips might seem simple to those already smashing honour mode, I have been waiting for something like this. I was just saying to my house mate how flooded youtube is with late game builds (and silly click bait) that have no relevance to someone trying to push through honour mode. I just lost my third honour mode at the end of Act 2, and these tips are just going to make Act 1 a lot smoother and more fun as I progress through and try new things. Thanks heaps brother! Calm voice, and just simple and easy things to do that aren't exploits, I bloody love it! Keen for an Act 2 or Act 3 if you ever get around to it!
Wellll, some are on the exploity side, but I tried not to lean too heavily into that. =) Thank you for the kind words.
I guess this is the difference between someone who has been playing D&D since THACO vs newer players. For those of us with more than 20 years of DMing experience or playing experience, it just seems impossible to struggle on honor mode. Legit the hardest parts are the damned skill checks. I legit lost both Jaheira and Minsc because I got 10 d20s, ALL OF THEM under 4. That being said, I've turned karmic dice back on. I can't handle any more 1 in 1 million failures.
Honestly, just knowing the mechanics is enough to make honor mode super easy. Some classes are clearly better than others. Some classes only require a level 1 dip. You have a rogue? That's a Rogue/Fighter until it's level 3. You have a wizard? Naw, it's a level 1 cleric / x wizard. These little mechanical staples make the early game a breeze without cheesing people onto death spots and carrying them all across the map. Do you have a problem with respecing characters every level? I don't. My archer (sometimes... very rarely) can be respeced every level. (Fighter 1), (Rogue 1 / Fighter 1), (Sword Bard 3), (Assassin 3, Fighter 1), (Ranger 5), etc.
Another super important thing that I believe (I have no data on this, I simply believe it on faith since I lack evidence to support my claim), people are too attached to their main character. When I play, EVERY CHARACTER is the main character. Every little extra thing you do for your main character, I do that for the extras. Gear is always given out to whichever character it supports best. I've noticed many players treat secondary characters as left overs. Best stuff goes on main, then secondary characters get left overs. Sometimes my main character has the cheapest most worthless gear because their class just doesn't require gear the way the others do.
Honour mode is pretty chill if you build your characters reasonably well. It's not necessary to fully min max but you can if you want.
But the main thing is to know your encounters. Understanding how to clear the major encounters and making preparations for them makes honour mode, muuuuuch easier
@@jfast8256 please could you write me down a level 5 build for act 1 and a level 8 per act 2 ? Something that go online early and can cover minor mistakes

6. Bard > Hypnotic Pattern
7. Bard >Glyph of Warding, Mass Healing Word, Counter Spell
8. Cleric > Preserve Life (24 HP to all) every short rest (You can delay this cleric level as long as you would like)
9-12 is bard, magical secrets should be summon spells for more minions to absorb. Mephits and Elementals
Gear to look out for.
Zevlor > Hell riders gloves (healing gives 1/2 damage for 2 rounds) Let the human knock him out so you can steal these off him
Volo > Ring of... something (Healing gives bless for 2 rounds) While talking to him, look at bottom left of screen, there should be button to trade with him. Buy this ring
Alfira's lock box > Bard's Hat (not the greatest, but free healing with your bardic inspiration)
This will keep your party alive. If shit hits the fan, this should be able to give you enough space to flee on honor mode. However, you still need your companions to pull their weight. So I'll add in 2 builds that can be used on any companion
Monk
NOTE!!!!!!! this requires buying 20-30 Elixers of Strength off Auntie Ethel.

This is your boss killer. Knock down the boss with Topple and just pummel them to death. Ki Points come back on a short rest or a song of rest. Very useful in honor mode.
Gear to look out for. At Creche, the human woman sell some body robes that will last for awhile. Any gloves that add damage. At goblin camp, the movement speed ring.
Ranged Attacker
Any companion
Str 8, Dex 16, Con 14, Int 8, Wis 12, Cha 16
Swords Bard > 6
Two Weapon Fighting
Level 4 grab either Dex +2 or Sharpshooter
If you get sharpshooter, only activate it if your accuracy is 75%+ Turn it off if your accuracy is below 50%
Spells, focus on stun spell like hold person and tashas laugh
Gear to look out for. x2 +1 hand cross bows from Dammon. Gloves of Archery, Helmet of arcane acuity and the best medium armor you can find like Yuan ti Armor. Rings, look out for anything that increases damage like adding acid damage.
This group synergizes pretty well as you get x4 short rests and by level 5/6 all 3 characters get ki points/inspiration back.
This leaves you 1 free open spot for another character.
I’ve listened to hundreds of BG3 videos, and after all that, I’m impressed by how many things this video taught me about this game.
You can also get the brand from warlock near gut in the chapel if you kill gut. So if you forget your camp peeps (like I do, EVERY time) you can run them though the branding ceremony. Everyone disapproves of that….
22:32 Man, that's an amazing tip. I remember just firing random arrows till I hit the invis on one of my playthroughs.
Haven't tried honour mode yet but I have played through 4 times: still found about half a dozen+ tips I've never seen before. Hoping you complete Act 2 and 3 vids before I get back to BG3 for an honour run. Well done!
Same, ive beaten it several times, and many of these tricks i had no clue about. Because I played the game a bit too much im taking a break, but plan to do a honor mode when i dust it off again. This video was practically a detailed cheat mode walk through of act 1. Makes me think you could almost do honor mode with the worst class build following these tips.
There's a more consistent way to get Voss' Sword at the entrance of the mountain pass. A level 5 Beast Master Ranger's bear has an attack that disarms without a check (as long as it hits), so you just make the bear invisible, bless it, then pray for the 80% with advantage to hit. You'll have to fight but you get the sword far more consistently. Of course this would likely require a respec (very few people use beast master), but 200ish gold for both respecs tends to be worth it for the best sword in the game for Lae'zel.
(especially if you can just steal it back from Withers anyway)
The level of detail in this game is incredible. It feels like a lot of the Act 1 exploits could have actually been planned by the devs before they even thought of Honour Mode!
For the Hag, you can also start with create water to make her wet, to tell her apart from the illusions.
For Grym, have a throwing Barbarian up top and one invisible char yanking the lever when lava runs out.
Would love to see your Honor Mode Act walkthroughs for 2 and 3 as well. Good stuff! I've cleared Honour myself and have come up with my own strategies for pathing and for each encounter. Learned a lot from yours! Pretty high quality video too. Hope your viewers/subs rise. You deserve it :)
this video is so impressive. how larian came up with and actually implemented all these tiny little secrets and interactions and how the playerbase are so creative to experiment with every mechanic, interaction and event this thoroughly.
great work❤
Easily the best BG3 tips guide I’ve seen. Not only did you make me discover a couple of things I didn’t know, but you also made me reflect on some gameplay mechanics that I didn’t think about!
There were so many small little items that I had never seen or heard of before! Very impressive!
very helpful video, great job man. These truly were tips I had not heard elsewhere, and a good few of them were very helpful. Your strategy made the Matriarch and Grym fights very safe and clean. I really look forward to the act 2/3 video!
This is by far one of the best tip videos I've seen for BG3. Great video production and scripting, keep up the good work!
I've just started the game and watched a whole bunch of videos. This is easily the most entertaining one so far. I can tell it would have taken you ages to put it all together and it's very smart how you've humorised your failures. Looking forward to what you produce in the near future
Much appreciated. And, yes, these do take a long time to make (the Act 2 video is probably going to take longer). And yeah, an example is how many tries it can take to get a clip of, say, failing the same 55% spell cast three times in a row hahah.
This is my first time seeing your videos, absolutely love them, seeing people give advice and new ways to play bg3 really makes me fall in love with this game again and again! Thanks mate! You got a follower and a like!
Thank you! I'm working on a video for Act 2 that is more detailed than this one, so I hope you enjoy it as well.

This was a great video, i've just started BG3 and I'm amazed at all the stuff you can do. This will surely help me and will make me go back to a1 to grab some sneaky hidden gear. Thanks a lot and keep it up.
my jaw dropped when someone dropped a potion on the grimforge hammer area, then attacked Grym to make it come and wollup them... and another character pulled the lever, which down both Grym and the player, but because the potion also got hammered it splashed it's healing essence on the player who was immediately back up.
These tips have been great during this newest attempt for me. Thank you-would love to see Act 2 and 3!
Thank you! Act 2 video will be done soon(ish).
it's actually insane how many things i missed while playing through the game THREE DIFFERENT TIMES! I'm on my fourth playthrough right now doing Honor mode and I'm both shocked and saddened about the amount of strong items I missed out on already lol. Great video!
I have had multiple play Throughs, and I’ve still learned an incredible amount from this single video. Honestly, this is the most informative video I have ever watched. Subscribed.
That's quite the praise. Thank you
Amazing and informative video, looking forward for act 2 and act 3!

Thank you very much
Great tips! Would love to see an act 2 and 3…especially 2 because there’s at least 3 or 4 fights that can’t be cheese’d with dialogue.

Such a great video! Thanks a lot! ❤
This video is incredible, genuinely some really clever techniques showcased for each boss and situation! This will do wonders for my honor mode run, thank you! I also like how you showcase multiple solutions to each boss (i.e. talking to Voss first or alternatively kidnapping and yeeting him lmao) so that you can still roll-play and cheese less if you'd prefer that.
That sort of balance of tactics was exactly what I was going for. Especially when I had something on the more cheese/exploit side, I wanted to give a more traditional alternative as well
I am glad you are bringing up the use of silence, my friends just thought it was a useless spell.
Act 2 and 3 versions of this would be great! Subbed!
The quality of these videos is really good! Keep it up - you should be a much larger creator
Some very good tips here that I didn't know even after several playthroughs. Great editing too.

These tips are sick, thanks!
This video is extremely helpful. I do solo Honour runs myself (haven't finished yet but have gotten deep into act 2 on my best attempt) and there's lots of helpful build-agnostic tips in here. Would love to see a video for act 2/3 as well.
Yeah, I picked the classes for the video mostly at random, with the exception of Karlach as a monk (to show off the Soul Coin trick). I tried not to lean into too much class-specific stuff, and some of the spells I used could be replicated with scrolls. Having a source of Prone sure is useful, though.
I mostly run as Tavern Brawler Eldritch Knight, so aside from rituals pretty much all my spells come from scrolls. Most scrolls are plentiful enough for defensive buffs like Blur, E&G, etc. but there are some situationally godlike scrolls that are obnoxiously rare.
Thinking specifically of Knock here to open up Balthazar's office in the Gauntlet. I scummed like 10 partial rests trying to buy one from Roah Moonglow to no avail. But it's been a while since I got back to act 2, so I'll have some time to think about other ways to deal with him with this build. @@SlimXG
Wow, i gotta say, well done mate. So often i see videos of "things you didnt know" that are things i definitely did. Ive fine combed this game, but you're the first to give so cool ideas. Gonna be honest, i was like "dam, why didnt i think of that." For the feather fall to Karlack. Its nothing game breaking but its clever. Very good video. Earnt my sub.
It's the best way to avoid the pain of not having Karlach in your party as soon as possible!

This video is amazing, so many good tips!
What a great video, loved it. Thanks for tips.
I have an embarrassing amount of hours into BG3, but almost ALL of this video's content was at least a little new to me!
Very good video! Id appreciate an act 2 video, mostly to see some unique ways to tackle the tough fights. Mainly Myrkul lol
Hes not tough, but if youre doing a solo no cheese run, he is very tough for me
Thanks a bunch. The Act 2 video is movin' along; I've just recently started the Gauntlet of Shar.
I'm sure I'll spend a lot of time trying to figure out tricks on Myrkul, but solo AND no cheese (and no barrels) is a tall hill to climb hahah. Though I suppose it does depend on your definition of cheese . .
I can't leave a comment about which specific tip I liked 'cause I liked them all! I've got almost 500 hours in this dang game and you showed me a ton of stuff I had no idea about. 10 outta 10. No notes!
Hahah I'm glad ya liked it. I'm really digging deep for Act 2 tricks in the next video. Stay tuned.

If you lead in this quest with a druid character and complete it (whether you kill Kagha or not) you'll be presented with a unique tag on that character called "Faithwarden" and the Pale Oak staff (only obtainable this way, makes you immune to the ensnaring effect+difficult terrain of druidic vines)
21:10 - Another way to kill Ethel:
If you have a void bulb and some patience, you can send her into the pit and 1shot her. This will prevent you from getting the hair boone or any loot that was on her corpse.
