I know the video is more than a year old, but I had to make a comment. I have 4 2100s, and the reason I found your video, was because I was searching for a way to disable the governor. I enjoyed your history of this model. I have been using 2100s for milling since the mid 80s. Sometimes I used one power head, and for hard cutting or big wood, I made a 6 ft bar for 2 power heads. They worked great. I used to make my own ripping chain, and learned the best way to file them from a good friend with a ton of Alaska milling experience. I got an offer I couldn't refuse for that package, and let them go. I regretted selling them the day after I let them go, and over time, I have managed to find 4 saws to replace the ones I sold, and after redoing them, I am again a happy camper. One saw I purchased, had a compression release installed, but even though it is there, I still don't use it. I still have a couple of other 2100 cases, complete with pistons, and I will have to look to see what is re-buildable. They sure don't look like your saw, they have lived a hard life in the woods. So now, it is block off the governors, and kick butt. Thanks for doing the video, I look forward to seeing your other videos.
Donny, I really like your Video on the 2100. I purchased one a year or 2 ago with a 42" bar, I also purchased another bar and chain with the saw as the fella selling the saw said he was getting too old and it was getting harder for him to start. said it had an oil leak, so I got it home took the muffler off and found part of an old beer can (pull tab days) that had been cut up to fit nicely in front of the oil lines between them and the muffler. I replaced the plunger line and kept the small twist wires that were used instead of the little spring clamps. I've taken it apart as far as I can and have cleaned it up a lot. would like some day to go all the way through it and really give it the once over. perhaps you might be a good source for gaskets and other parts like rubber mounts and such. Thanks for the videos, I really enjoy them. W
Im still using a 298xp from a saw shop in Port Angeles! Bought it from a feller in Yelm, using it up here in Seward Alaska now. Ill have to look at the sticker from the shop, think it might say Mikes on it.
My favorite saw the 2100 have owned several of back in the day falling timber...still have two left that I want to restore....such a power house...have two Stihl 056 mag II also...the 2100 would cut circles around the 056s. Shoe in SW Oregon...great videos thank you. Ps...yes the Harley of chain saws....use to call them that too...
@@donnywalker4691 yea your right...seems like Husqvarna have half the part not like a Stihl....great saws but your right a bear to work on... so you have 2100 parts need some for my two rebuilds one needs very little the other needs open heart surgery....piston is froze in the barrel but outside parts are pretty good. Thanks for the response Shoe.
Absolutely amazing. You are Blessed and Highly Favored. Donny, Bless you for preserving our power saw history. Your knowledge is so valuable. Bless you for sharing your wisdom with us.
We used to cut a piece of tin or copper to plug the governor. For more air, I used to cut holes on the plastic cowling on the top cover where it sits in between the cylinder and muffler. Worked awesome in the snow. Thanks Donny. Brought back great memories.
I bought my 2100cd in 1979 and it still runs like a big bore should, except this year it began to contaminate its chain oil with gas. Upon minor forensics, the oil screen fell out when tank was tipped empty. Some say the manual oiler passes through the gas tank? If this is correct then perhaps the 2 seals on man oiler are pooched and allowing the mixing. All comments are welcome, especially those that can help fix and return this reliable old Swede back to work.
When I was working for auto marine electric in the early 80's I used to go to WFP's shop to wire up off road log trucks with 12/24 alternators instead of s/p switches, used to warm up in the saw shop and the mechanic would always get so mad at the fallers for popping the hand oiler hose off the2100's ,he would say they would pump the plunger like a male dog @#$%$# well you know what I mean I wish I would have bought a couple of those saws when they shut the saw shop down. I think glm falling bought the lock stock and barrel.hindsight is 100%, for sight not so much. I really love the stories from the past ,keep them coming.
Hey Donny, I have a 298. I guess it was a experiment to lighten the 2100. It is also a 99ccer. They left off the manual oiler and lessened the starter. I understand the starter was disaster so they warrentied them and ended up putting the 2100 3 prong on them. Yes, it is difficult to start but boy is she fun. Thanks for the great video.
Hello Brother…i from oporto Portugal the 298xp have biger window in the piston laterals walls like 2101 have.Is like 281 piston but jungle tipe mufler in 1985-1986 2100xp have narow windows in piston for asia africa rain forest and pnw florest with 100% humidity and live forever the saw and you have a automatic oiler not 2 sistems but the better version in the heart👍🤤
just pulled my dads old 2100 off the bench, last time i saw the thing run was when i was just a little guy so its been at least 15 years, i got it fired up in the matter of 30 minutes and it was leaking from every place possible so she needs a carb kit and a few gaskets but cant wait to get er going and put it into some big wood
Great video mate! And a lovely old husky! I've just got myself a ms881 to replace my 090av was sick of getting white knuckle after a hour of use haha .
Enjoy making chips with it ! Glad I brought it all that way to you Donny there in Nanaimo because you look like you will give it a much better home than my shop was :) Keep that saw in the wood eh ! I will see it in your shop one day ! cheers, TK
Very nice 2100 they are not at all common here in Tennessee im not a husky guy but ive wanted s 2100 a 372 an a 395 atleast to fall timber with maybe one day.
Man that thing looks mint, you're right that carb is same as 288. Plug the governor and it'll turn more rpms, im surprised it doesn't have the 7th mount like 288?
I have a 288 lite that I have been searching for years a full wrap handle . I have them on my 372s my 390 and 395 . Don’t have one on my 3120 either but it’s mostly on the mill.
That was a very interesting video. I’ve got a 285CD and for what i’m used to that saw is an animal but i’m thinking it’s ported it screams for having a 40mm stroke?? Not sure but it sounds like a CR 500 at idle lol. Love these videos telling the history of each model saws keep them coming please.
Didn't you put velocity stacks on them with a k&n or uni filters....so they could breathe the stock silk filters were terrible...alway put a upgraded filter on...the 398 was the same saw without manual oiler... the 2101 did have hair more power...my partner around 2000 had one got to run it...loved it...had a chain brake too....was legal on Forest Service fires...cuz the hookie chain brake. Alway square ground chain on a Silvey and Simington swing arm....razor sharp...Shoe
Donnie hello sir hope u have a good week. I do have a qu2 what was the oem non governd carb that came on the 298 or 2100 or 2101 i dont Excatly remember which 1 it came on and what the carb was i know it be a tillitson but what series my friend??? Ur help would be very appreciated.
Do you find newer 372xps have issues with cranks too? I just found out my 2017 372xp has a bad crank. Doesn't have huge hours. Was thinking of going with a 575.
Hello Donny, I was wondering why 2100 has the split of the rings towards the exhaust and not on intake as on any other saw , is something to do with lowering compression on start up? I have taken the piston out and spin it and doesn't catch on intake ports so why will they install like that. Thanks
My 2100 CD needs a oil pump guard I don't know what one looks like , the drive sprocket can slide off the clutch and into the pump drive, when the 404 chain is off. It packs full of sawdust and oil, Can you help me with that? My XP has a rubber strip about 4 inches long, 1- 1/4 wide, hanging down form the clutch cover,, is that factory or custom? It is also missing a pump cover. I see Billy's 2100 has one of your dads mufflers, look good, sounds good. Thanks,

I absolutely love my 2100CD.. thing is absolutely incredible.. starts two pulls every time.. and has never let me down..
The old saw shop I dealt with in Port Angeles, Wa. , would always eliminate the governors on my 2100's.
