    My wife has the 2015 SE6 can am spyder F3. I just changed the oil at 3100 miles. The problems I faced was having to use different tools for each part. For instance it has two oil plugs. One requires an allen wrench while the other requires a Torx T45 tool. The panel bolts hiding the oil filter needed a different star bit other then what came in the tool kit. I want to say I didn't find any metal bits when I changed my oil but it was noted in other videos that it is common. My wife probally doesn't drive hers the same way you do. Another bad thing is the can am accessories are expensive. Windshields can be replaced. We added sponge grips to go over the handle grips. The front storage was cut in half compared to my 2013 can am spyder rs. Overall she is impressed and very happy with her bike. It is the same color as yours. Thanks for the video.

      +david barrera thank you for watching. It's amazing the number of different tools to remove the drain plugs. I'm hoping on the next oil change to metal will be gone. I love the spyder and I have a great time on it!

    I really appreciate this video. My YAMAHA FJR1300es is getting a little heavy for me and I’m not ready to give up riding. I considered a Slingshot, but it’s more car like than I care for. The Can-Am seems to be the next best option. Thank you for detailing the issues you had. It’ll give me a better informed idea on what to look for on what should be addressed before purchasing one for myself. I’ll also be getting a previously loved one. I look forward to watching your other videos. I like the way you explain things. It’s like listening to a friend. Ride safe.

    Your comments about finding a dealer are right on. Only one Can Am dealer in the Birmingham, AL area far as I know, and if you want to get in for service it is a week out, unless you get there early, like 8 AM on a Saturday where they have a 'first come, first served' policy. Since I was trying to get my daughter in laws Can Am in for service, I just left it, where it will sit for a week or so. Sit a week for what? An oil and filter change. Taught me a lesson. I will not be getting a Can Am for my wife. Too bad, great vehicle.

    • @spyderryder
      @spyderryder  Před 6 lety

      Its very sad that it will sit for that long just for an oil change! I try to do as much as I can to keep it out of the shop so I dont lose so much ride time. Thank you for watching stay safe!

    After watching the video again I paused it and saw that you are riding on an Ohio highway. Used to live there, my first 18 years. Lived many places, now in Alabama, but those roads you are running on in the summer that look so good? I have those in the winters as well. Down here, riding is pretty much a year round enjoy.
    There are a lot of good roads in Ohio to ride. One of my favorites is Ohio 39 from Wellsville on the Ohio River (my home town) all the way west toward Columbus. Great riding road if you ever get into that area.

      I feel the best would be a 1330 with the sm6. I put 30k miles on my RS SE5 with no issues. My 2014 STS SE5 spent 8 months in 2 different shops! The F3 is very solid I feel. I will change that any 1330 SE6 or SM6 RT or F3 is very solid!

  • @johnhand871
    @johnhand871 Před 6 lety +2

    I see that 2015 windshield still has the DISTORTION just like my daughter-in-law's 2013. That distortion can be confusing at times, and when you have it going over rolling hills, dips, etc, it can really mess up your vision, also at times on certain corners.
    You replied that you look OVER the top of the windshield, but there are certain times when going over the top of a hill and into a dip, that you almost have to look through the windshield, unless you are keeping the shield way down.
    I have had a Slingshot for over two years and my current main ride is a 2017 Victory Octane which is really quick. The Can Am I have been getting to ride for a few days is SWEET, really like it, except for that windshield.

    • @spyderryder
      @spyderryder  Před 6 lety

      The windscreen does not bother me too bad...well the distortion anyway. I look over the windscreen so I never see it. The camera really highlights it because its mounted so low.
      I like both of you other rides you dont see to many victories around here!

      shouldn't the order of blame be on the can am rather than the dealer? basically if you have a dependable or reliable trike or motorcycle, other than the standard maintenance oil changes and brakes, shouldn't the product be able to speak for itself, if it was built and engineered correctly, coz he stated about transmission and engine issues, thats the power train.. other than that all else is just details for comfort and handling.
      hope the newer models 2020 and up are alot reliable other than consumers better just wait a bit, till this thing will work out its issues.

    Mate, thank you for such an honest review. I really appreciated what you had to say. Due to health issues I no longer ride a two wheel bike and so am looking to a spyder. Will now be wary and ensure I am comfortable with the dealer before I buy. Scares me over the issues you had and waiting on pats from Canada considering I am in Australia. Can I ask what mounts are you using for your phone and your GPS ??

      @spyderryder  Před 7 lety

      +Nathan Somerville thank you for watching. The Spyder is running great after the grant replacement and after it went back for all the issues the dealer caused. John, i took a test ride and felt the steering was a bit too sensitive. I noticed that in your video it seemed to " twich" from side to side . My test ride was like that and it bothered me because after 60 years on two wheels I am quite used to the Gyroscope effect of the two motorcycle wheels.
    Do you agree or can the sensitivity be reduced with steerin dampers ?
    Thanks for your share,,,, I enjoyed it very much

    • @spyderryder
      @spyderryder  Před 5 lety

      The first time on a spyder is always a learning curve. Sorry for the late response. It takes time to get used to how much bar pressure a Can-Am Spyder really needs. What you learn is you're putting too much pressure on the bars and you kind of do weave from side to side. After you get used to very little bar pressure a Can-Am Spyder handles quite well. It takes about five good rides to not be so Twitchy and to figure out how much bar pressure you really need. Give it another try and forget everything you learned from two wheels. Good luck

      It all depends on how you ride. The spyder is bigger so it will be more comfortable on longer trips. If you will just be doing short rides the Ryker would be great but if you want to do any longer trips get the F3!

    Great honest information. Thanks. Thinking of getting one but between Consumers Reporsts showing them at the very bottom of cycles on reliability and information like this. I don’t know if its the right thing for me. But what else fits the bill? Other wise it really is a great product. Nothing else that I know of takes its place. Ive ridden hardly and Goldwing tricycles and they just don’t do it for me. But again thanks for all the good information.

      I have had 3 different spyders and I can say this the first one was perfect with very miner issues ...2 I think. The second one had a small oil leak and one electrical issue. The shop was not a good one so it took then 3 attempts to fix it. Then we come to this spyder. I put 50k miles on it in 2 years with one issue. I feel if you get a spyder with the 1330 and the 6 speed trany which is the only way they come you will be very very happy with it! Good luck in your hunt for a new toy if you have any questions drop a comment someone will have an answer for you.

    Oh another comment about what was said when you got your bike back from the dealer with stuff being broken on it . Middletown cycle took pictures of my bike before they took it in for service. I said what's up with that , and they said it was for their protection against the customer saying they broke or scratched something on it while in for repairs. OK , granted I guess that's a good idea. And yea, my bike has some scratches and normal wear -n- tear on it from being a 2008 model. I just never had that happen before. However from now on as a suggestion to all when getting service done on whatever you have. Be sure to take pictures of your bike with the service writer of the shop present just to make sure , so there is no issues later.
    Oh on a side note...... I really like the bike itself. Its a blast to ride. I got a good deal on it when I bought it , but that's another story. Lol. I got approx 14000 miles on it now......most by me. It only had about 2000 on it when I got it back in 2014 I think. No joke.

    Very good long term review . I’m thinking of buying a 18 spyder limited . I heard something about a power increase . Do u no if that was a previous year or a new er model or a 19 ? Idk if any . I think my local in Ocala is ok . I bring my V Strom in for service & tires . They seem reasonable . The only thing that seems to add time on service is ordering parts or tires but usually with in a 5 day span at most . Thanks for review I’m going to checkout some of your old videos. O by the way do u watch Smoak he’s a mechanic for a dealer on west coast does some nice videos on what that dealer sells.

    Wow. Its late now and just watched your video, but when you said Middletown cycle sucks I thought , oh my god - I am not the only one that has had some bad dealings with them when it comes to service. I bought a used 2008 GS spyder a few years back from a person and took it to them for service. I know they can be somewhat pricey to maintain. However for what they charged and what I got in return didn't set well with me. I have road bikes for over 35 years varying from Harleys to Hondas and so on. That being said I can work on them to a certain extent as long as the specialized tools don't become to big of a issue, along with some of the newer computer stuff. If the woman u mentioned in your video still runs it , I have met her at the shop. Never really talked to her much other than hi in passing. Had my bike in there I think 3 times over last several years. It always amazed me how long it would take them to service it , even with a appointment. Last time they had it a little over a month if I remember correctly to do a tire change , oil change, antifreeze flush, fix a exhaust leak and a few other misc things. No major overhaul. I could have probably done some of it myself , but had the extra money and was going on a trip soon and didn't want to fool with it. Anyways after dealing with them on the phone trying to get a time to pick it up , I finally got a date. Showed up to get it and I made a small comment at service dept asking why it took so long. I am not making this next statement up. A employee there said -- "Did you buy it from us?". I was a a loss of words at first. I said no, what difference should that make? But I had the extra money and just want it fixed and was again wondering why every time I took it there it seemed to take a lot longer than it should. Never really did get a good answer.....if at all. That was one strike of several that turned me away from going back. Another was the exhaust gaskets that I paid them to replace.....but when I got it home it still sounded loud. I looked at it and it was obvious they never touched the bolts on the clamps on the pipe.....the rust was never disturbed. I went back and asked about it...... I showed them the repair bill. They told me that I could bring it back and they would take care of it.....or they would give me the parts now and I could do it myself. Really.....I paid them to do it to start with, and didn't want it back in the shop again for who knows how long. As far as getting parts myself from them , it was kinda hit or miss and you never really knew for shure when you would get them if they didn't have them in stock and had to order them. I have found other places online to get what I have needed so far since then. (And sometimes cheaper.). I asked about a few things in the factory service manual for clarification that I bought from them (it wasn't cheap either) and they really did not want to say anything one way or the other as far as help. I was on my own so to speak. I don't mind spending the money when needed at a dealer , but I feel they dropped the ball on their end one to many times with me. This is just a few comments that I can think of off the top of my head now about this , but I probably come up with more later on. Thanks for the video , I guessing that you live near Middletown like me and for sharing this info. Its kinda sucks that there isn't a lot of other dealers around here close. I heard there is one in Springfield and Columbus , but have not checked them out . a guy I work with said he bought is spyder new from a dealer on the east side of indyapolois Indiana.... Sorry on spelling. He says there great so , even though its sorta drive for me --- it maybe worth it. Please keep us all posted on any more info .

      So I try to take pictures of my spyder before it every goes into a shop for the same reason they do it. So the first thing I noticed was the front drive belt cover was missing and they apologized as they looked for it. They found it before I left and bolted ot on as I geared up for the very long ride home. I picked it up at closing after work so I did not spend alot of time going over it and that was a very bad mistake. By the time I got to the gas station 2 min down the road I noticed the upper plastics where not fitting right so I took some pictures . I stopped up the road on 71 at a rest area where I noticed oil was all over tje side of the motor and the exhaust. I was a little upset by then. Long story short a gasket was leaking they left a bolt out of the motor they left one cover off broke the upper plastics and the windscreen. Yes the lady still owns the place and is very nice to talk to but if you have issues it is never ever at all there fault!!!! They blamed me on Breaking the upper Plastics and the windscreen. BRP stepped up and covered the plastics but I still have a broken windscreen!
      I will end up taking it back to them this spring for a couple small issues we will see if the service is any better!

    Absolutely exactly the look color, side bags allI want. Im coming off an FJR1300. I had over 40 bikes. You name the style type, has it. The FJR is by far the most comfortable distance bike I have ever owned. Very hard clutch and known right side engine heat made slow and stop and go driving a pain. But, that comfort and grip performance. I hated interstates until my FJR.
    So, about yours and experience. You say its cruiser like. Im concerned as I feel thats very hard on the lower back, neck and shoulders. Windscreen buffet. Its bad on an FJR with an adjustable electric screen if you let your head get outside the slip screen. Have you found solutions?
    Your dealer experience is shocking but this tells me Can Am made zero effort to resolve it. You say?
    I 5'10 170 lbs. My girlfriend who may or may not ride much is 5'2 105. So, rear shock concern per your video comments ?
    I like your detail and honesty. Have you done a follow up video and maybe on the Smoky Mountain trip twp up ? Where are you on these concerns. I think lots of us are awaiting your follow up vid. Thanks

      So I did find a solution to mist of these issues.. I bought a 2020 F3T. That being said I kept my F3 because it's an amazing Spyder.
      F4 customs makes a windscreen that should help with buffeting.
      I bought some floor boards from canamspyderaccessories.com these things are amazing. You can have you feet below you or forward which is very nice.
      I would upgrade the rear shock to at least the BRP 2 up it will support the weight better but it's still under sprung and does not match the front fox shocks.
      Video to come comparing my F3 to my new f3t and everything you've talked about. Thank you

    See you like having your legs forward. That puts all the weight of your upper body onto your lower spine since none of the weight is being absorbed and held up by your legs. Any riders that have lower back problems, I definitely recommend pegs or board that allow your feet to be straight down. Also, with the pegs/boards straight down, you can STAND UP at times if you desire.

    • @spyderryder
      @spyderryder  Před 6 lety +1

      So I had 2 issues that came to play at the same time. First the final drive pulley spun on the outputshaft which then made the spyder dead in the water.( would not drive in any gear) The second thing was the shop did not take the grant all the way apart so every week they would run into a new issue!! The delay was about 45 days!! By this point BRP was in contact with me and the shop. Long story short after having to take the spyder back for post repair issues everything is ok now.
      So what I tell anyone that is looking to buy a spyder make sure the service side of the dealer is as good or better then the sales side. If you own a spyder you will have an issue more then likely. I feel BRP could do a lot better job stepping up and making the shops do the correct repair the first time but this is what you get from them. We are the manufacturer we don't own the dealer we can not tell them what to do!
      I love my spyder and will buy another one but I don't know from who!

This one has had 1 issue that the shop delayed and now owning for less then 2 years and 43,000 miles I feel that the 2014 and up spyders are very sound! Goid luck on what ever you end up with and thank you for watching.

That always gets over looked. I hope you can get your F3 and enjoy every minute of it. The one thing I don't like is the windscreen so if you get one check out F4 custom screens out of Ohio cost a little more but a better screen and I hear has no buffeting!

    $7000.00! And you just know that they're not just giving it away and making nothing on it...In other words, they will still be making some kind of profit on it. So it just goes to show how much dealerships mark things up. They always tell you they make very little on the bikes, ATV's, snowmobiles or whatever they are selling. What a pile of crap! Reminds me of those artificial Christmas trees you can purchase in department stores and other retail stores before Christmas for 200 to 1000 dollars, but can walk out with one for twenty bucks after Christmas. Anyway, I got side tracked there when you said how much it was marked down. You have a gorgeous bike there. I have a sport standard motorcycle at the moment, but if I were to ever get into another serious relationship and she had know interest in owning her own bike, but still wanted to travel with me, I would definitely consider a Spyder for any kind of long distance travel. I'm in the research phase of learning about Spyder's. Your ugly is what concerns me about diving into ownership. I've had several BRP sled's so I know how they are.......and honestly I am not a fan of their dealerships or customer service. I love their products, but not the customer service. To me for what you paid you should not have had the headaches that you had - it's just totally unacceptable. From what I've learned overall they do seem to go for high miles given no major internal issues, but they do seem to be a complex machine (and not being mechanically inclined means having others fixing it). If I do eventually get one it will be a '14 STS.
