      I'm 6'1 and I weigh 370 pounds, which can am will be more suitable for me and can I have a hitch to trail a tiny trailer of it.

    • @spyderryder
      @spyderryder  Před 5 lety +1

      The RT would be the best.. Then the F3T with the air adjustible rear suspension. The one I have can pull a trailer but you would have to upgrade the rear spring. It is sprung very soft and even with the occasional 2 up rear shock and spring its still very soft.

    Great, great video and comments as well. I just bought a 2018 F3 and the guy at the dealership mentioned that an oil change should be done every 600 miles...I looked at him...didn't say a word and thought...do more research! Thank you all.

    • @spyderryder
      @spyderryder  Před 6 lety +1

      600 miles is not correct! The old V-twins were close to that but the 1330 I believe is around 3,000 and then every 9,300 miles!
      Congratulations on your new spyder ride safe!

    • @levis5230
      @levis5230 Před 5 lety

      He prolly meant the 1st 600 miles because the engine is starting to break in and metal shards might be in the oil

      So that is 2 years and 50,000 miles. Most people in 2 years would only put 20,000 miles on a spyder so the cost would be a lot cheaper.

  • @roninrusso872
    @roninrusso872 Před 5 lety

    Well first off thank you so much for your honesty... I've been thinking about getting myself into a spider maybe the new Riker I want something new so I wouldn't have to spend a lot of money on fixing things I know everything breaks down from time to time but overall my concern is am I just better off getting on Honda motorcycle because as we know those bikes never break down LOL A friend of mine has a Goldwing and I believe it's going through its third life now it's crazy how many miles is on this bike can the Can-Am give me the same kind of life expectancy as a Honda is my real question... Thank you for your time and again thank you for your video

    • @spyderryder
      @spyderryder  Před 5 lety +1

      I think the F3 with the 1330 is very Honda like. Mine is in the shop now but if the last shop new what they were doing I would be out on it now. I have over 50k on it with only 1 issue. Time Will tell with the little Ryker the motor is not new the technology is not new. The spyder has had some growing pains with new models so let's hope BRP nailed at this time.

  • @Biker758210
    @Biker758210 Před 5 lety +3

    I could live with 1800 bucks for 50,000 miles. You ride it every day and in salt as you say well that's your problem with the foot pegs. Salt over time will eat at the metals on that Spyder. As for the drive belt not riding properly. front drive pulley could be set to far out on shaft or it has come loose and the vibration is causing it to slide on the shaft. it won't come off because of the case on the drive pulley, For the exhaust pipe, it would be cheaper if you just sand down the exhaust pipe and repaint it. The throttle not returning is the cable worn out after 50,000 miles which to me would be normal ware. Great video thanks. I've been looking into buying one next year. Hope you get it all fixed. Ride Safe.and clean that Spyder up really good. take it to a self service Car wash and pressure wash EVERYTHING, MOST of all Engine, Frame and wheels. Salt is bad stuff

    • @spyderryder
      @spyderryder  Před 5 lety +2

      I understand how bad the salt is on the spyder. I do my beat to keep it clean but just a few hours can do damage. The spyder is running great it old shop installed the drive pulley backwards so after 3 months and a new transmission belt belt tensioner all is good!

    I currently have a transmission issue and would like to know about yours before I take it to a shop for repairs.

    • @spyderryder
      @spyderryder  Před 4 lety

      My first issue was a ton of noise when new that went away around 12,000 miles. At 20,000 it spone the out put shaft pulley and when the blew the trany apart it had a ton of internal damage. I was never informed what was all damged. The second issue at 50,000 was because the shop press the output shaft on backwards witch made the belt ride to far away from the motor and it took out the output shaft bearing.
      Good luck and keep.us informed whats going on with your spyder.
      What is it doing?

    The only thing that scares me here is that trans going at 20k miles or whenever it went. You had the warranty. I'm looking at a 2018 with only 1,100 miles on it but that warranty will end soon & I will be doing 80 miles daily with my commute. Awesome video though. I liked & subscribed. I have been looking for a video like this & you covered it all. Awesome video 👍

      @spyderryder  Před 5 lety +2

      I'm glad you liked the video. I feel my issue was a one off issue. I would not hesitate in purchasing a used Spyder with that few of miles after a very good once-over and long test ride. The 1330 and 6 speed are very reliable. Good luck

    Not bad considering that is about 5 years worth of mileage for me. Thanks for the details. I would do most of that work myself to save money (285 for a belt job) but thats because I don't use my bike full time so I have the time to mess with it. You use it all the time so you need it fixed ASAP.

    It seems like very video I watch about the Spyder's there is huge cost. Seems like the maintenance is a pain to do it yourself from all the body panels to be removed and any minor thing to be done. I had a Goldwing trike with minimal maintenance. For how long they been making these they should be easier to work on and a better quality product. Thank's for the video!

    • @spyderryder
      @spyderryder  Před 6 lety

      Thank you for watching. I have 50,000 miles on my spyder so that could be 5 or more riding seasons so the maintenance appears to cost more then say someone who rides 5000-9000 a year. If you ride 10,000 miles a year that cost would be spread over five years instead of 2 years!
      I hope you are still riding stay safe and thank you for the comment.

Lot of repairs have been.By the time my RTLtm had 13000 miles it had been in the shop for free warranty work for a total of 18 weeks.By the way the first 8000 miles were trouble free.In the 4 years I had it I bought 1 back tire and back brakes(400.00).Year 2-4 I was afraid to go out of town.

    Dude really does not seem happy... But $1800 over 2 years is not that bad. Sucks that some major systems went out like the transmission and belt, but you ride it every day in all conditions - you gotta expect some things to happen and budget for it.
    @Greatrydes I would recommend you put up a small open tent/carport to help protect it from the weather - you can find them on Amazon

      Don't look at it in terms of 2 years, because pretty much noone will put 50K miles on one in 2 years. For the average person, I'll bet you put 5 to 7 years worth of mileage on that thing. At that rate $1800. is nothing.

    • @spyderryder
      @spyderryder  Před 6 lety +1

      I have heard that the average person puts 5000 to 8000 miles on a motorcycle a year. So in 2 years thats 2 oil changes an air filter and maybe brake fluid.

      So I dont no how many miles a spyder can go before they start saying it has high miles. If you can find one with less then 25,000 miles the unit should be good for some timeif it was treated good.
      Always look for signs of corrosion and fading black plastic. I know they will let you test ride in the parking lot if you dont have a lic but that is not enough time to feel one out. Good luck in your new Adventure

      At 20,000 miles the front drive pulley spun on the output shaft damaging the output shaft...so the shop said. The shop could not rebuild because they could not remove to bolts so a new trany was put in. Now at 52,000 I was get some noise on the right side and the belt was not riding right. New shop says the old shop put the output shaft pulley on backwards and it will not come off so now the second trany will be installed. Long story but I hope I got the highlights!

      By comparison, if I ever buy one of these I would put about 1,000-2,000 miles a year on it. In other words, it would take 33 years for me put 50,000 miles on one.

    • @spyderryder
      @spyderryder  Před 5 lety +1

      What the shop said or what I think? Shop said front drive pulley spun on the output shaft damaging the output shaft. I know it had a noise in the transmission from new that they said was normal but when they got into the transmission they couldn't just change the output shaft because there was damaged inside the transmission. If it was just a spun pulley it would have only damaged the outside splines not the internal transmission parts.
      I feel it was bad from new just one of those things.
      It needed the second transmission because the first shop installed the first transmission wrong.
