- The Ferrari 456 has always been one of the more "unloved" Ferraris that does not get the attention it deserves. In the final year of production for the 456M GT, Ferrari came out with a very limited production model called the Schumacher Edition, the 456M GT Scaglietti. Supposedly only 18 of these were made, only 8 made their way into the US, and of those only 3 were manual transmissions. Today, we check out 1 of the 3 gated 456M GT Scagleitti's and it may surprise you.

The 456 is my "obtainable" Ferrari, always loved its subtle design and classic GT attributes.
I was pleasantly surprised at how fun it is
The opening filming of the car is on par with any commercial quality production! Nice Dan!
Thank you!
The Scaglietti (the gl sounds like double l in French and Spanish) marked the return for Ferrari to a front engine mount, at that time all other cars produced by Ferrari had the engine on the back
Great vid as always guys! This one really resonates with me as I sold my 355 back in May and swapped it for a 21000 mile 2000 456GTM (auto box - sorry - but I'm an old fart and I think it actually quite suits this kind of 'continent-crossing' GT. Also, my first V12 Ferrari, what did Enzo say? Horse before the cart, haha. Such a different driving experience compared to my previous V8s (328GTB, 360 Modena and 355). No worse for that though, engine is like a turbine and they are also quite rare over here in the UK (only 139 rhd examples in the UK). Love the comfort and the fact that my wife actually 'quite likes it'. Well, she said the colour was pretty (blue TDF) and it was 'quite' comfortable. The only things she didn't like about the 355 was the colour (rosso), the firm ride, the noise, the difficulty of getting in it.....What did the wise man say? Happy wife, happy life. Well she seems quite happy with the old girl, so I think my marriage has been saved! Don't ask about the 993 I bought in 2020! Cheers from (a very chilly) Otford, Kent, UK.
Oh I love TDF blue!
Great episode!!! Great to see Carey !!! Thats a sharp touring Ferrari ....amazing how Ferrari gets everyone smiling after a few minutes in their cars.....
It's hard not to smile in them!
Hoovie is grinning and saying “I know, right” just about now
Haha yes he is
I knew the 456 was nice to drive and comfy but this version is an amazing car. Your smiles says it all. Love it
Couldn't agree more!
Really interesting, I've heard of this model, never seen one though. Actually impressed that a full size person could fit in the back seat. Our California 30, has back seats, but unless your a 8 year old kid, or an adult without any legs, you'll fit in the back seats... I guess this car was originally from our state, I couldn't help notice the California plate. Very interesting video, Dan, thank you!
You're welcome
Love that colour combination inside and out. Haven't seen another M.S. special for sale anywhere in Europe but non Specials are available for between 60-75k in great condition and lowish mileage.
Same here!
Great video !! This is the younger brother of the 550 Maranello. They're easy to work on. That is a very difficult car to appraise right now. If the car is up to date in maintenance, tires, you fix all the sticky parts, fix the leather on the dash and the unglued ceiling, it should fetch top dollar on Bring a Trailer.
Yeah I'm curious to see what it could fetch right now
Great vid, cool car. Love the new direction for the channel!
Thanks
Wow. I never heard of this special edition 456. Thanks for sharing. The older I get, the cooler these grand touring cars get.
Haha I agree completely. Comfort and fast? Sign me up.
That’s what I am talking about , great variety Dan.
Thank you!
Awesome looking car. Aged very well in that colour. Good vid Dan. 👍
Convert it to automatic
Lol
Did it hurt to write that?
Cause it hurt reading it
@@burgerdad420
LOL dan takes on the crazy jobs i figure why not do something crazy generate more views just me thinking inside the box.GO DAN!
Wow. I think many people (me included) that the comment you just made might make you end up in hell one day. Converting a gated Ferrari into a automatic is like the biggest sin that man can do out there
Michael was personally involved with the specification of these cars. The 2 tone silver was his own specification. They made 30. 20 were F1 and 10 were manuals. I believe Michael took delivery of the first car in 2003 and as far as I know its still in the collection in Cologne.
That sounds about right
The music montage was well done Dan
Thank you.
I would love to own that 456M GT. The colour combination is fantastic.
Unusual as I’m not normally a Ferrari fan to a degree.
I must say after this I would consider one.
Awesome car!!! Thanks Dan!
You're welcome
“Can a real human fit in the front seat after that ?” Is Adam a real human? 😂
I mean, humanish.
@@ArghIsThisHandleTaken 😂✌🏽
Hhahaah I thought the same. Okay for two humans then...not for a beast and a human🤣
Adam has been swayed to the light side! He actually likes a cruiser Ferrari, wow! This is headline news!
LOL yes indeed!
Do you know if there was a specific reason why Ferrari did a gated shifter ? I’m guessing that it’s because it’s easy to find gears and don’t really have to take your eyes off the road ? Idk I’m just guessing
I'm not entirely sure. I know it makes how the actual shifting is accomplished controlled somewhat by the gating which is interesting. My assumption is it's mostly about aesthetics.
Funny how when I saw it I wasn't impressed but when you started driving even I was smiling here in Annapolis Maryland.
Haha it really makes you smile. It's hard not to in that thing.
This is my favorite V12 Ferrari what a hell of a GT car man. Sad they mostly sit and rot instead of flying free as they were meant too.
Yeah they need to be driven!
I hope this car stays forgotten so I can pick one up cheap in a few years. :) One of the most beautiful and mature Ferrari designs ever. My friend actually owned this car briefly around 2011--and WRECKED it while giving me a ride from the airport!
I think they are only going to go up in value
@@normalguysupercar I live in Korea, see. We have maybe half a dozen 456 in the country. Not especially popular. :)
Asian drivers lol.
What about the regular 456M GT?
What a beauty!
Indeed
That's what's what a real farrai is. v12 gated shifter
Indeed
Have always wanted a 456
They are really fun and pretty affordable (for a Ferrari)
Beautiful car 👍
Thank you
Did this car ever end up selling? If so, how much did it go for?
No it did not
ford heater control knobs wow wouldn't have thought that
Lol
Slick video.... very fancy! How's the missus, u a dad yet?
She's ready to have the kiddo on the outside. Lol
Maybe someone that’s not the size of Bigfoot in the front seat with someone in the back they’d both be comfortable, still funny though just like when Doug who is 6’2”, 6’3”, 6’4” depending on the day gets in the backseat of a sports car
LOL yup.
rare-ish, worth being bought by someone who will catch up on all the deferred maintenance and repairs, hopefully before it degrades any further and isn't worth the cost anymore
Indeed
Standard 456 GTA is about $60,000-70,000..
We're they produced in RHD?
I'm not sure. There's not really much good info on these out there.
Yeah I did a little looking.... they certainly are a rare car! How's the wife? You a dad yet?
They're the cheapest ferrari you can buy in Australia... still got to stump up$132k thou.
It looks like a Lotus Elan Sprint in the front. Not my taste in design. Only 18 of them were made? They must be incredibly valuable.
They are surprisingly not crazy expensive
Dan, how tall is Adam, for reference? Thank you.
I don't know. 6ft something?
@@normalguysupercar just seeing if I can fit in some of the cars with a little reference 😂
@@ericwelch I asked that question on a Live cast a couple of weeks ago...and ___? (The one who was in the Navy"said at 6'5" he doesn't have much problem in the new ones.
i kinda the 456 but after it was called a ford probe i cant get the probe out of my mind when i see this car now ,,lol,,,but they are still cool
It does have a similar look for sure.
That click......I love the click...click
Yes the click is fantastic
Dan is smiling like a opossum eating briers
Lol
Find a way to gate 456 GTAs.
They're on our list.
How much is that even worth? I could not take a quality guess on it.
Yeah I'm not sure. It's one of those where the right buyer would certainly pay a premium.
I bet that will go for $200,000-$250,000
It's light compared to a Bentley coupe but still heavy for a Ferri.
True
Dan , did you join the bloods recently?
LOL not that I'm aware of.
Have you ever seen Matthew McConaughey as he and his wife reside in Austin apparently..!!!!.👍
No, but lots of people I know have.
Meg should review it
Well, given she's 8 months pregnant and it was in Ohio, that was pretty much guaranteed not to happen. Plus she doesn't drive manual. :)
@@normalguysupercar valid points. Congratulations sir!
Schumacher? I barely know her.
Ok
it would be my daily driver if i had one lol
That's a hell of a daily
456 not 356
Did I say 356?
@@normalguysupercar if you did I didn’t hear it.
@@normalguysupercar several times.. It must be the heat
@@alamosabill201 3:53 & 4:08
God you would think he would look at the engine for a hint to it's name
I love GT's....❤️ It's the take your way to too young for you girlfriend and her mad parents to dinner.
LOL!
Gentlemens' GT Ferrari...a car of sophisticated taste before came era of on-board computers and disconnected driver from soul of the car...The 550 was still from this stock keeping original pedigree but everything what came from Ferrari after....feels too egoistic...."Look at meeee...I am driving Ferrariiiii !!!...."
I suppose that's accurate
Don't get too excited gentlemen... These 456 cost a LOT to maintain...Parts are incredibly expensive...There is ALWAYS something that is broken...The suspension is incredibly expensive to repair...The carbon fiber hood? Around $ 20 000. Complete transmission for a GTA: $ 37 000 plus labor. Like Iain Tyrrell said, these are relatively inexpensive V12 Ferraris but you still pay the maintenance costs of a supercar...Don't forget that...Also totally inadmissible for a car like this that the whole interior is falling apart...Shame Ferrari for such poor quality...Cost of replacing/fixing most of the sticky buttons and switches: Around $3000.And you also need to do the headliner and the dash !Ouch! Brake lines are often clogged when you want to bleed them. You have to take them apart...You want me to go on? Don't ask me how I know please.
Always liked the 456, but the two tone, mweh, makes it looks weird. .and although i like the 456, it is not a car I'd ever buy -i think-
I liked the 2 tone.
@@normalguysupercar well you are allowed to like it 😅🍻
🥰🥰😍😍
Yup
Get rid of the boat and buy that
Lol there's at least 6 figures in price difference.
3700lbs is light ? 🤣🤡🤣
Eh not really
Woof
Lol
Honestly that’s one hell of a ugly car reminds me of a Pontiac 👎🏻
To each their own
@@normalguysupercar Just admit it you know it’s ugly
