  • The original owner of this car amassed the largest collection of cars in the world, through a limitless budget and passion for all things automotive. They spent close to $80m with Pininfarina alone. All 288 GTO's were built in Rosso Corsa and left-hand drive, including this example which was subsequently return it to Pininfarina in Turin and refinished in Nero with a red stripe down the waistline and fitted with a bespoke interior as well as being converted to right-hand drive.

    Absolutely and undeniable the most beautiful Ferrari and car EVER built by the hand of man!!!! The 288 GTO has been my favorite car since I was a kid in the 80's. I've still got magazine featuring it. I'll never be able to afford one, short of winning the lotto, so I finally was able to purchase an 85' 308 GTS QV recently. The 308 design is what I love about the 288 GTO so much.

    • @MrGaryGG48
      @MrGaryGG48 Před 3 lety +7

      The "survival rate" probably has something to do with the fact that they're rarely ever driven. I worked in Ferrari dealership in the early '90s and in our storage floor, among 2 F40s and many other beautiful Ferraris, was a red 288 GTO. I don't know if it ever left the building. I never heard of it moving.
      One of the F40s was on the road at least one weekend every month and came back covered in bugs and brake dust. I've always felt that that was what they were made for and what they were so good at!!
      A couple came in one Sunday, looking for a possible purchase. They already owned a Testarossa 512M up in Utah. The husband commented that he felt the 288 might be a "more practical choice" since in wasn't quite so close to the ground and the roads up there weren't the best. His wife couldn't stop laughing at that. She asked, "just how do you manage to use the words Ferrari and practical in the same sentence???" ...and then she started laughing again. ;^)

Kann mich aber nur noch dran erinnern, wie wir dort an einer Straße standen und auf den Hafen mit dem Yachten runterblickten. Der 288GTO hat mir generell auch immer optisch sehr gut gefallen. small nit pick but it IS important to note the correct engine displacement is 2.855L because as a turbo charged motor, the Group B racing criteria stipulated a normally aspirated engine no more than 4.0L - this would put the Ferrari motor just under the 4.0L limit - a 3.0L turbo would have exceeded the engine limit) .
