I love how the turbos don't sound like a jet when they spool up and don't have a huge wastegate flutter. They just have a nice, delicate little whistle just loud enough to let you know that there's two turbos sitting behind you.
There is simply NO better looking Ferrari on Earth!! I know the new stuff is amazing but I'll go to my grave always wishing I had a 288 GTO to drive. Just once!
All these mid 80s and before Ferrari's have a living breathing soul, there is just something unexplainably awesome about them and their last supper-like feast for a person's senses.
Very jealous here.. I'd love to get to drive a 288. Beautiful car, beautiful sound. Apparently they're commanding a higher used car price than F-40. Both are dreamy, but the 288... gorgeous.
Higher price than the F40? Really, cause everybody loves the F40, even the ones who know only the name and a few pictures, while I am sure not many people love the 288 GTO, because they just don´t know it, or because compared to the F40, they don´t like it that much. Personally, I always preferred the GTO, to me it´s a better car in general, even when I know it´s slower and not as overrated as the F40
I agree completely. The 288 GTO is one of my favorites. It retained the look of the popular 308, but added more bulk, power and flamboyance. It's like a 308 on steroids.
I think the record price for an F40 LM is over 5 million dollars, while a 288 GTO sold in 2017 at slightly less than 4. It is true however that the 288 GTO is rarer, as the F40 production, originally planned at 400 units, for several reasons was brought up to over 1300, not quite a few! In an interview, Nicola Materazzi, who designed both cars, said that his personal favourite is the 288 GTO Evoluzione, which is sort of a joining link between the two.
dovestones reservoir , epic stretch of road, look out for lancer evos round there!, awesome car the 288 gto, without it there would be no F40, much respect that its out being driven and not locked away
First car I fell in love with as a teen. I bought a picture of it and brought it back to show my Dad. He said you have to be a millionaire to own one of those. To be fair, he was right really
I have a 1976 308, I did the 288 conversion, and V12 conversion, mostly because my car was an original DINO, and most everything was lost, original parts, and everything that made it a DINO, or even a 308 for that matter lol, But, the conversion was a blast to do, did the V12, then the 288 body conversion. Was so much fun to do something less constrained, my last car was a 250 GTO restoration, not a lot of room for creativity, the car looks and sounds great, mine should be on the road again, as warm temperatures approach.
To be honest, thats not how it was intended to be driven. Its a car ment for tarmac rallies/ racing. On narrow straights during a tarmac rally its supposed to top around 115-140 mph and avarage of around 70-85 mph.
Yeah really nice car, the last bit is on Holmefirth road towards dovestones reservoir, I cycle round there and some drivers go far too fast, along the top stretch.
Car is from Italia AutoSport at Meltham Mill in Huddersfield, guy driving is John Pogson, not sure if he owns the car but they essentially rebuild Ferrari’s. He’s done some other interesting videos on YT if anyone wants to see some cool F40 and Testerossa Vids
That was pretty ballsy driving in town like that. Wet roads and cars trying to pull out in front of you. Beautiful car!! It's my favorite Ferrari of all time.
This to me is arguably The greatest Ferrari ever!!! Its beautiful, it sounds as good as it looks, this is what a Ferrari should be, no? Love the F40, the 308 as well as others, but this is like the Countach, or a 911 but even more rare and just a little more speciale...
Several years ago I had a 79 308 gtb, similar looking. The 288 looks like a 308 pumped full of steroids. When driving my 308 I was really driving a 288 . I agree with everyone, the best looking car ever designed.

I think f40 challenges this in terms of looks
I live 30 seconds away from Italia Autosport (the garage where the video started), hearing this and the F40's driving about genuinely makes my day
Its nice to see that some owners dont keep their rare supercars as garage queen. Great driving & very nice clutch handling.
Really??? 😯
I could do better with a Fiesta!....
@@vascoafonso1877 ur fiestas clutch is not as hard or heavy as this
@@vascoafonso1877 Imagine comparing a Fiesta to a legendary 80s Ferrari supercar…
Imagine thinking they can tell what is going on with the clutch.

Yeah the new ones are awful.

Andreas Eichler there far better than the f40 . The f40 was almost mass produced compared to other limited ferraris and was an evolution of the gto
I agree completely. The 288 GTO is one of my favorites. It retained the look of the popular 308, but added more bulk, power and flamboyance. It's like a 308 on steroids.

@@xsbgtr ferrari made 1311 f40s, so they should never get as expensive as a 288 or even an f50, as they only made 273 288 gto and 349 f50s.
Best car in the world......Ever.....Fact ❗️
1967 Ferrari 330 P4?
That's an opinion not a fact bro
@@narieksmith2457 lol it is infact HIS opinion.
Agreed 100% This machine started the real supercar era. sure miura first mid engine but this pushed it so far!
Fact? Please! Highly subjective!
The greatest Ferrari. Good to see it being driven as Enzo would of wanted, and not stuck in a museum never to be driven as an investment.
My all-time favorite Ferrari!!! The sound of that flat plane v8 and the turbo spooling is intoxicating!!!!
My dreamed car since I was a child. Congratulations. Forza Ferrari, orgullo de Italia.
My all time favourite car being driven in my local area; that long downhill stretch at the end is a gorgeous road; fab!!
Love the way the BMW's pull aside like parting waves!
This is exactly why we mount the camera to the car when we're filming car footage. INERTIA works.
Looking back we would've - it was filmed 4 years ago though ;)
I think shaking actually gives it some charm and realism... it'd be boring seeing it completely steady
@@spx730 Its a 288 GTO it wouldn't be boring no matter what you do with the camera. Nonetheless, it would be nice not to get sick in the process.

Brilliant video, my absolutely dream car since I was a kid, really enjoyed it!!
This is a beautiful video. My favorite car of all time here. Nice to see it driven.
I can't believe this car was made in the 1980s. FAR ahead of its time!
It's great to see somebody drive car like this on full throttle, thumbs up. Nice sport and save ride.
Awesome video!! You don't get to see a 288 GTO like this very often. I think it looks and sounds better than most modern Ferraris.
In my opinion the best looking car ever made.
1:34 you can just about hear the turbos spool up. Beautiful car
im confused did this model really have a turbo originally. i´ve never hear ferarri cars having turbo in them before
@@ChrisE-iy7ok First turbo Ferrari was the 208 GTB, this 288 GTO is biturbo. Also the F40 is biturbo
One of the most beautiful cars ever built, an iconic masterpiece, Scuderia Ferrari.
When a loud exhaust makes sense..... busy roads with blind corners! And my god, what a beautiful noise!
Now that's how you drive a super car the safe way. Bravo on your video

Beautiful Italian machine. A super car version of the 308. In person the paint is incredible on these cars.
Just saw one today didn’t notice the paint to be as a standout
