- Claims that the majority of asylum seekers entering Ireland had crossed the border from Northern Ireland have been questioned by human rights and refugee organisations.
Ireland’s justice minister Helen McEntee last week claimed that the number of asylum seekers crossing from Northern Ireland into the state is now “higher than 80%” following a shift in migration patterns in recent months.

Who do you want to send home ? ... the Irish homeless ? Try reading your comments and make sure that they make sense before posting. I am wholly in agreement with what I THINK you mean. I am in favour of the British Government transporting all of those landing on the Kent coast straight to Gatwick and onto a flight (several flights a day) to Belfast and then coach to Newry and then issuing them with easy instructions on how to get to the border. Out of the EU ..... and back into the EU in less than 12 hours. The Irish Government can then arrange repatriation to France on those shiny new ferries to Cherbourg and Dieppe ..... or better still, fly them to somewhere in Southern France .... the weather is warmer so the tents will be fine.

Hardly any of these people are fleeing war and persecution - that is a fact! If there is conflict in the African country they claim to come from, then cross the nearest border into another African country that doesn’t have conflict - there are plenty of them!

There is a large waiting list in Wicklow for housing.

185k work for NGOs in this country they all pay PAYE and PRSI and VAT when they spend their salaries 6 billion a year the government ain't going to put 185k people on the dole although they could and use 6 billion to pay their dole but it drive up the unemployment rate and our sovereign credit rating will get downgraded by the rating agencies pushing up our borrowing costs

Let me tell you, we could easily gather 100m asylum seekers globally...easily. Allowing them to keep coming and fostering the notion that this path is normal in how to fix bad countries can't be the answer.
It has nothing to do with race, or how we perceive it in the west, it has to do with huge gaping cultural differences that can't be bridged, when left to our own devices.
We all have pretty hectic lives, making ends meet, getting up early or going home late - this is a western norm. People from hugely different cultures will never fit in.
People from Africa have been sold a false ideal that life is easy in the west and our money just shifts around, from one to the next and we're all doing great just by living in the West.
They travelled through all Europe but found Ireland's welfare system more attractive and they will ring the bell for others to come including their extended families. The Irish will work and pay taxes the others will benefit and take the houses. Lovely. Well done politicians.

When the Irish people are all housed, when there are no queues in the emergency departments around the country, when there is enough medical staff in all areas of the HSE, when there are no lone Irish children in a class full of non english speaking children. I could go on. Then we can help the rest of the world. What's happening in this country and all over the western world, is akin to putting a family member out of your home and taking in half a dozen unvetted strangers.

If the Irish economy is further wrecked, we won’t be able to help anyone. Ireland still is a country of emigration - we can’t even house our own homeless families, or indeed many cannot afford to live in Ireland, or find employment. Some Ukrainians have also spent time in tents. Doesn’t this tell you something?? Ireland does not have the resources to house the whole world. Neither do even the most successful European countries. Nor is it our responsibility. Ireland has always been generous in giving to the developing nations. It is time to help troubled nations IN THEIR HOME COUNTRIES. Ireland is sinking under the weight of all of these people and we are enabling the Ukrainian War by settling so many here.
