This video is for Irish history educational purposes ONLY and NOT to be linked to current affairs. History is history, and education is always number one. There is no bias in this video, nor do I take any stance or give any opinions on current affairs in this video. Just to reiterate, this is for Irish history educational purposes only. ââ@@davyholdenat 10.13 you addressed what I was thinking, this isn't solely unique to Ireland and Palestine and there are probably other countries that were under British colonialism that have much more in common with Ireland than Palestine, so good integrity for pointing that out...don't agree with the timing of your video because it definitely will steer people politically in a certain direction, but it's your channel! Keep up the good work

Davy, you shouldnât worry at all about the timing of your Palestine/Ireland video. Itâs perfect, now and anytime. People need to know of the history and the connection. Keep it up.
Thank you James. Really appreciate that!
The timing, for algorithmic reasons is perfect.
Down you know the Irish supplied weapons to the Nazis in world war 2 because of the deep hatred of the British ! Hate and victimhood are dangerous things cause they can drive you into the hands of actual genocidal terrorist regimes like Hamas
I'm a Brit of Irish descent with a fervent interest in Irish history. Your videos are sensational - thank you. Education is never a waste of time and those who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat it!
Yeh? Ireland hung the Jews out to dry during WW2 and is doing so again now. No surprise.

Even if ten oppressed slaughter men women and children under an Islamist ideology ? How warped the Irish have become , blinded by hate

Storrs thereby drew a parallel between Jewish settlement in Palestine during the 20th century and the plantation of Irelandâs northern counties by Scottish and English Protestants during the 17th

Thanks again so much for sharing these very relevant, historical facts, between Ireland and Palestine!
Teaching and sharing these historical facts, absolutely, need to be a top priority! This as to keep people better informed, as to the evolution of world events.

Amazing educational video thanks Davy
Thank you!
I learned a lot from this video. At the risk of being pernickity Dave, at 9:52 you seem to say that millions of Irish died to attain an independent state, but the notion of an Irish state only appeared towards the end of the 18th century, so you could say thousands died but not millions. But overall, very interesting video, thank you.

Not Famine but could we say Genocide đź
an gorta mor đ
@@r_and_a CinedhĂothĂș
@@tigerspuds idk why you'd pose the generic word when there's a well established term that refers to the specific example?
@@r_and_a An Gorta MĂłr = The Great Famine. CinedhĂothĂș = Genocide. There was no famine in Ireland in the 1840's. Food was being exported from the country, Only one crop failed - the potato. Call it what it was - CinedhĂothĂș (Genocide)..
@@tigerspuds as John Mitchel said âThe Almighty, indeed, sent the potato blight, but the English created the famine" - an obvious attempt at genocide & i've always seen "an gorta mor" referred to as "the great *hunger"* which usually accompanies clarification that it was *not* a natural disaster
i'm sure you know the genocidal acts extended well beyond forced exports, including destroying homes & attacking culture with requirements to take the soup, etc. it just seems since language is dynamic & there's already a well established term, it'd be more effective to reinforce expanded meaning of an gorta mor than to just generically say "genocide" in any language đ€·
Never be afraid to tell the truth about our history to long it has being swiped under the carpet we should not be afraid to speak about other nations that are being mistreated it's in our dna that's what makes us irish
I hadnât been aware that the Black & Tans were shipped to Palestine after the War of Independence, until I read it recently in âLegacy of Violence - A History of the British Empireâ. The book also refers to the fact that Zionist agents, who were fighting the British, were inspired by the IRA (as were Indian nationalists). Three Zionist agents were sentenced to death following an explosion I think at a hotel, and one of them referred to the IRA struggle from the dock. The book devotes quite a bit to the action of the British in Palestine and is well worth reading to understand some of the current situation there.
A lot of early zionists wanted a pluralist government with rights and dignity for all of Palestineâs inhabitants. That kind of thinking is lost on later generations.
The Zionists and the IRA had someone in common: Robert Briscoe, who fought in Irelandâs war of independence and who also ran guns for the Irgun. He used to jokingly refer to himself as, âChief of Subversive Activity against Englandâ.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Briscoe_(politician)
@@TheLastAngryMan01 heâs a relative of mine on my mothers side. My great grandmothers maiden name is Briscoe. Funny you brought him up. Another one of my relatives was Charles Scannell he was a coal man on the Lusitania and he got an article written about him in a cork paper you can find online. If you type Charles Scannell Lusitania you can read it. Charles Scannell is my fathers side and Robert Briscoe is on my mothers side. Irish history on both sides
@@TheLastAngryMan01 There's also a darker side to connections between the IRA and zionism. The Stern Gang opposed the British presence in Palestine long before the outbreak of the war but as WW2 progressed, some felt that they needed to do more against Britain than assassinations and bombings. AT the same time Sean Russell was talking to high ranking staff in Berlin, hoping to get backing to open a second front against the UK, the Stern gang sent a letter to Germany proposing an alliance - knowing full well who they were dealing with, It's a very strange episode which is never mentioned. Dev had interned most of the IRA (2000) by then and Russell's mission failed but it has been used to smear Ireland recently, conflated with Dev's personal visit to Kempel, the German ambassador. The story of Ireland's neutrality is deeply complex and willfully misunderstood by many in Israel these days, it would seem. The Black and Tans burned Cork 19 years before WW2 started and Britain waged a trade war against the Free State between 1932-38. AN alliance with Churchill was impossible. The Holocaust had not happened, America remained neutral until attacked.
@@bogbay Thanks, I am unfamiliar with that episode, will try to read up on it. As for willful misunderstanding, it seems like thereâs a lot of it regarding Irelandâs wartime history, particularly on the British Right these days. We must be the only âallyâ that Germany had that was bombed by the Luftwaffe and passed vital weather info and other intelligence to the Allies! All while interning Germans (and the IRA) while largely allowing Allied POWs to go free.
Very interesting, as are all your videos. Thanks Davy. An appreciative Irish senior citizen.

The Irish language is alive, whilst the English language is a dead one.
Well done that man. The amount of fools out there claim there never was a Palestine let alone know of the Nakba or Balfor.
Yes. In the 1930s there was a newspaper called the Palestine Post and the Palestine Philharmonic Orchestra.
@@JimODonnell-en2be There was no nakba. Arabs were ordered to leave their villages because an attack was planned on Israel. They were promised loot and property. They got neither. Just perpetual refugees begging for scraps.
As a sovereign state? Before the present it was British Mandate, before that Ottoman territory, before that Crusader, Byzantine, Roman, and Judea and Israel. The thing is, the Palestinians were there and they are human beings who deserve to have the right to live where they live, without violence, but the Jews did not come from chicken eggs in the desert, they have a connection with the land and an origin of expulsion and persecution, They went there for a reason. Their government is a result of many things but the State is there, it is real, it should not suffer violence, it is a fact. Killing people is not protest. Now netanyahu is wrong, he needs to be removed and the Palestinian state does have the right to exist. What happens is people forget that it's not black and white, there are people, cultures and a lot involved. Was Palestine also a colonial invention, or do you think that 22 Arab countries with the same language, âculture and ethnicityâ are something that occurred without colonialist intervention?
Wow so Palestine goes all the way back to the 1930's
Similar to most English colonialism, Palestine was a creation of the British. So-called Palestinians are historically ethnically and nationalistic from Egypt and/or Jordan. Prior to the British creation of Palestine, it did not exist.
For those that say Palestinians = historical Philistines, you are wrong. But, if you insist on going down that rabbit hole, the Philistines originated in the Greek isles.
For Catholic Irish to equate themselves and the fight for their freedom from the British does not equate to the Palestinian plight. Over 80% of Palestinians voted for terrorist rule of Hamas who is in their 8th year of a 4 year term. Their government is using them as human shields and steeling the aid being sent to them. Israel gave up their land to said âPalestiniansâ in a peace agreement and moved out of the area. They jacked up their own land. Then supported an elected terrorist government in breaking that treaty on 10/7.
Please study more about Israeli/âPalestinianâ/British history before equating this current situation to the legit freedom fighters of Ireland.
Thank you for posting
Maybe the world needs to be educated on these issues instead of getting the one side narrative that certain people in world power wants us to hear well done davy

I have to say I'm disappointed by your disclaimer at the beginning of the video. The idea that you must remain completely neutral in the context of, as you put it very safely, "what's going on in the world right now," seems unnecessary. What's going on is a genocide. And for an educational channel to refuse to take a side against genocide is to implicitly teach your audience to do the same.
That said, I understand and respect your mission to keep the focus of the video on history. Not everyone needs to be an explicitly political channel. It's just strange to hear you repeatedly apologize for the timing of your video. I would argue that the timing makes it all the more important to highlight the historical ties between Ireland and Palestine, and I thank you for deciding to release the video.
That is your opinion, and I respect it. I choose not to cover current affairs on my channel, or express my opinions. I donât know if youâve ever had a large online following across multiple social media platforms (totalling about 1/2 million right now), but itâs a pretty stressful environment to be in and I have a lot of weight on my shoulders. Pleasing everyone is literally impossible. Contradicting that, at the end of the day, I run an Irish history channel, so current affairs are by no means a part of what I do. Of course I could choose to cover current affairs also, but I choose not to. I donât want any limelight in the world of current affairs. Thatâs not why I started this channel or what this channel is about.
Appreciate your comment. Thank you!
@@davyholden Just reading the comments on this video I can see people trying to come at you from all sides, so I definitely understand the inclination to limit the scope of your project to history. And no, I don't have any experience with an online audience, nor would I want to! It must feel like very shaky ground at times.
I still very much appreciate the video and the time you took to reply to me here! My own view is that history and education always have political aspects, and that to remain neutral in situations of injustice is to side with the oppressor (paraphrasing Desmond Tutu). But I'm not the one who has to deal with the fallout, so I try to just offer my perspective without directing it at you like a criticism. I applaud your efforts to make history accessible on what can be a very unwelcoming platform!
Thank you. I really appreciate you understanding.
I agree with this thread. Thank you for what you do. This video was great. We should never have to apologize for education, especially on inflammatory subjects. But by framing it this way, hopefully it will reach people who normally would not engage. Very grateful I discovered your channel.

But the "private" bankers have done their "works" well in always putting out the "message" to divide and rule. Being an Irish nationalist and not supporting Palestine makes no sense to me. We have endured the plight of colonialism for too long to not stand up for those still suffering under it. Great video, i really appreciate what you do.
The point I'd make is that a nation is not a piece of territory. Rather it is a people. The Jews are the quintessential nation. They can trace their Hebrew ancestry back three thousand years.
Palestine is the name of a piece of territory (in fact just one of many names throughout history). Just because some people live in a territory does not qualify them to be a nation.
â@@JimODonnell-en2beSo we should be able to claim the western European mainland by your logic.

And now the government is setting the place back again, those Irish people died for nothing.
It is the perfect point in the for airing this video.
I've always maintained that Ireland's plantation is something of a precursor to the Israeli plantation. They even sent the black and tans over there as well.
I'm sure they have observed the peace process in NI and are doing everything possible to prevent a similar result in the middle east. These people want you divided by any means, whether it is religion, caste, class, race etc.
Wars and division generate income and propagate the lifestyle of people whose families earn their income passively, without effort.
Read Anglo-American Establishment by Carroll Quigley. Ireland was the blueprint for Palestine/ Israel.
Please do a video about the Irish fighting on both sides, for and against, of the Anglo-Boer war between the British and the Boer Afrikaners of South Africa. There were Irish songs sung at the time by Irish mothers wishing the Boers would beat the British, but crying because they knew the price would come in Irish sons blood forced to fight on behalf of the British.
Great idea. Iâll make sure to cover this soon. Thanks so much for the idea!
