  • Are carbs healthy? Find out if you really need carbohydrates in this video.
0:00 Introduction: Do we need carbohydrates?
    0:45 Simple vs. complex carbohydrates
    1:30 Vegetable carbs
    1:45 Carbohydrates and fiber
    2:08 Carbohydrates in food
    2:39 Carbohydrates in fruit
3:52 Carbohydrates in grains and starches
5:34 Summary: Do we need carbohydrates?
In this video, we’re going to talk about carbohydrates. The primary function of carbohydrates is to provide the body with energy. Many people think that carbohydrates are your only source of energy, but the body is able to utilize protein and fat for energy as well.
Carbohydrates are classified as either simple or complex. Simple carbohydrates include foods like table sugar, honey, and agave nectar. They are absorbed quickly by the body, giving you a burst of energy.
Simple carbohydrates spike the hormone insulin, which regulates blood sugar. Insulin lowers your blood sugar after you consume simple carbohydrates, causing you to crash.
Complex carbohydrates take longer for the body to process because of additional components such as fiber.
Vegetables contain carbohydrates along with fiber, vitamins, and minerals. You get the majority of your vitamins and minerals from vegetable carbs, as well as fiber to feed the microbes in your intestinal flora.
Beans and fruits are carbohydrates that can be good for some people; however, they contain a lot of carbs. If you are trying to lose weight or if you have a slow metabolism, it may be beneficial to limit these foods.
Grains are refined carbohydrates that can be very hard on the digestive system. Grains are not very nutrient-dense, so I it's best to avoid them.
Similar to grains, starches are low in nutrients and turn into sugar fairly quickly. I recommend avoiding starches if you are trying to lose weight.

You make a great point about the knowledge of food. Many of us have that confusion about food, because we've been fed so much misguided information about what is good for us and what is not. And some of the information we have heard over the years about certain foods has been completely wrong. And I like how Dr. Berg tells us in the video that what doesn't work for one person, might work for another.

    • @SRose-vp6ew
      @SRose-vp6ew Před 2 lety

I doubt you have heard other keto experts be misleading, they are not talking about a non-keto diet as dr. berg was talking about here. Here he talked about a low carb, but not a carb free diet. Dr. Berg also has talked about the safe way to have a zero carb diet, BUT you're now needing to consume the less desirable cuts of meats from only grass-fed/wild fished animals so you get the "carbs" and vitamins through the animal as your body takes the over consumption of meat and transforms it into carbs and gaining the nutrients from what it ate. Everything is black and white, but multifaceted. Look at the topic being discussed to see if the information is for you. My diet is actually most like Dr. Bergs diet and that's not this video or his videos on zero carb carnivore. This video, however, does reach the diet needs of most overweight people, set down the sugary soda and have berries and a salad and not an apple and pasta if you want to lose a few pounds.

Dr Berg knows better than hundreds of thousands of years of human evolution, through which our ancestors evolved through eating carb rich diets, such as bread.
In ancient times, people regularly lived to a healthy old age (80's and 90s), as Solon recalls on his visit to Ethiopia.
What is bad is the way modern diets are constructed around processed foods, including carbs.

My body reacts very strangely to carbs. If I eat a meal that has as little as 20 gm of carbs, a couple hours later I'll be shaking like a leaf, sweating, and my feet get really hot. When it happens, I'll check my blood sugar and it's always in the 70's (and yes, I do keep my monitor calibrated). My doctor says that type of reaction is more typical of a blood glucose level in the 40's or 50's.
I've had an abdominal ultrasound and a CT scan and nothing remarkable showed up. I've had this syndrome (for lack of a better term) for well over 20 years, so if it were a tumor or something I'd most likely be dead by now. As long as I stay away from the so-called "fast carbs" I'm fine, so that's what I do.

The idea that carbohydrates are essential erupted back in the day when food was not easily available and there was a lot of starvation and shortage. So a little bread would give a lot of energy. That, however, is not the case now so carbs should be minimum. The reason you need a little carb is when it associated with roughage and it is needed to not end up having constipation but calories is definitely not why carbs should be consumed.

No, you won't. There were never any long term studies done that showed negative results. All the studies have shown very positive results and people ended up living longer and healthier than people that ate carbs regularly. Unless of course the study was funded by the agricultural industry or similar industry to show how much better grains and pastas are for you which of course means it is a biased study from the beginning. It also showed a greater quality of life and more energetic body. Not sure where you get your information from, but you should know that it is not true. In fact, you are just like every other negative Nancy in saying that Keto is bad but offer absolutely not a bit of evidence to prove your point. That is because there is no proof unless it is made up. And go ahead and try to throw some facts out about keto that you find on some Vegan website. Those "facts" will just be cherry picked information that does not contain full detail of what is actually going on to create such data. It will basically be like CNN or MSNBC when they give the news. Stop trying to scare people from being healthy when people that want to be healthy deserve to know the actual truth about how good Ketosis is for the body.

Interesting... I've read some studies that suggest, we do not need Carbs at all... They are seen as Non-essential to life. In other words "Optional" We need Fats and Protein but not carbs, in order to survive. Considering that there are sugars in everything we eat, including meat, eating more is superfluous... Cattle, sheep, rabbits poultry and even seafood ... All of the meats get their nourishment from vegetation and that vegetation contains the sugars that are transformed into the animal's tissues, which we eat... Although in most cases, there is very little sugar in meat, it all of the carbs we need... Since I cut out the carbs as you described... Grains, sugars and even pasta, my diabetes went away...
Case in point... The Inuit and coastal Indians never had grains, in their diets until the white man came along. Zero carbs as wee know it... They have lived for thousands of years on Fat and protein alone and some berries (seasonal). We could learn from them... Great video :-) I always enjoy your views :-)

I'll put $10 bucks on it, that you have never even met an Inuit... I lived with them for a few years...
Something that you know absolutely nothing about... The Canadian North is not always covered in snow and ice... During the summer months, the Sun never sets, but makes a big circle in the sky. The day I arrived up there, it hit 110F... The Inuit eat a lot of Edible plants as do the Coastal and Plains Natives. Ever heard of Pemmican? Natives all over North America have been eating all kinds of foods that you've obviously, never heard of and it has kept them alive and Very healthy for thousands of years...
Just so happens that when the White guys came to America, they nearly starved to death, but for the help they received from the natives... Scurvy was rampant and the natives taught them to make a soup from Pine Sap, which saved them... I could go on for hours...
Bottom-line, I suggest you do a little research on the topic, you're about to spout off about. You sound very "Uninformed".
