Summer Steaming with Engine 40

On July 8th I decided to head down to Essex to chase the valley railroads steam excursions. I arrived at Essex Hardware 30 seconds before a rail speeder came through after inspecting the track. I arrived 30 minutes before the departure time so I figured I’d head over and get some pictures of 40 before they took off. I ended up running into my friend Will who said he was riding along with another railfan Essex Rail Films. I decided to hop aboard. It was a great ride. I got a few shots from the train on the way north but then when the engine was running around on the way south one of the conductors invited us to ride in the last car which would be right behind the engine on the way back. After watching it couple we enjoyed our experience being right behind 40 as it chugged it’s way back to Essex. Once back I prepared to chase the 2 remaining trains. I got some good shots although I was hoping for some better ones. I guess this just means I’ll have to go back down there soon. It was pretty cool to ride behind a 101 year old American made steam engine. As always I appreciate your viewing this video and God Bless!!!

Yeah buddy!!! Great video as always - and a pleasure to ride that day given the weather. I've been riding in the rear passenger car since I was a kid in the 90s, and no matter what I'll never get tired of it. Cherish those moments, not many get to live so close to a beautiful tourist railroad with genuine American-built steam locomotives trotting around town!
