    This is a very nice video....I especially like the old Pullman cars. There is something about them that evokes such nostalgia to those of us who love trains. And, of course, that 'lonesome' whistle. Thank you for making and posting the video. Please do more!

      Fun fact, sliced bread is usually sold as a Pullman loaf (perfectly square slices without a dome) because the Pullman Company invented special baking pans that baked perfectly squared loaves that stacked easier and took up less space in the often cramped kitchen cars.

    This railroad has lots of grade crossings, the one at Jim Thorpe, PA on the Lehigh Gorge route along the river has none, except the one at the Jim Thorpe Station on to the parking lot. Next crossing north is at Tannery, PA 23 miles north. I like tourist trains with lots of grade crossings to whistle at.

    In response to rwk360, in regards is the line extending any further north than Haddam/Goodspeed - the line is serviceable 1 mile north of Route 82/Bridge Road, to a point about 150' south of the mentioned marina, with the last 350' only just being re-opened in March 2016.. Even though the railroad property is contiguous through the marina, we are working very closely with the marina in order to be good neighbors and minimize impact on their successful business. The track will re-open through the marina area this summer (2016), and the new Haddam Special Foliage Trains will go at least up to the marina, if not all the way through. To respect the marina, we have decided not to go into the marina area with trains until we have enough track open on the north side to be able to pass completely through the marina (i.e. not stop right in the middle).

    The small station that says Chester is the location used for scene where the steam engine was confiscated and filled with coal for the Doris Day/Jack Lemmon movie, "It happened to Jane". Other shots were taken along the Conn river line and at the Diamond in Plainfield CT. The last New Haven Steam engine stared in that film along with New haven Diesels. renamed for the movie as Eastern and Portland RR

    Nice photo work. Keep in mind that it is the locomotive that should be the star attraction. Little sense if pictures of rail cars. You do not follow the locomotive at all. There is more time on empty tracks and passing cars than the rare operating locomotive. What is the focus of attention.

    • @benhogan8440
      @benhogan8440 Před 8 lety +7

      Some of us who appreciate the old steam era railroading do not want to see only the locomotive or even mostly just the locomotive. We appreciate it all as a whole and want to be able to see everything that makes up the experience. That includes empty track and endless strings of railcars.

    Does the regular steam train ride go further now? Because it shows the train going past the Hadlyme "flag stop" shelter, then stopping along the river and backing up. Will the active railroad ever be extended farther north than Haddam/Goodspeed station? There is a big problem with a boat marina in the way north of there. If I ever get to Connecticut I would like to ride this. I've been on lots of train rides in PA, NJ, and DE. I live 90 miles west of NYC in PA. I rode behind NYSW 142 in NJ.
