  • @ayeadagio965
    @ayeadagio965 Před 5 měsíci +83

    Most of time people who are “25%” non black have RECENT non black grandparent and can be raised and submerged in there non black grandparent culture still, and even dominantly look like there non black grandparent or have obvious mix features (like hair, skin color, eye color and etc) literally like a Beyoncé or Rihanna. I also noticed people like to use the “technically we are all mixed anyway so it doesn’t count” line the hardest to people who are 25% non black or have a obvious non black grandparent when these people obviously don’t have that and know it. Like for example Beyoncé embraces her mix heritage and being creole and the black community constantly tries to gaslight her in a comment section and say “she’s trying to sound mixed” or “it doesn’t count cause all black Americans are mixed anyway” knowing in a DNA test they are like 5% non black and mostly black (but lying to themselves). But do you noticed how the black community will claim someone who is 75% white and 25% black as mix tho and point out how they “obviously have black characteristics like hair or facial features” so why would it be a struggle to claim someone with 25% non black blood as mix if you are claiming someone with 25% black blood as mix.

      where are you getting that from? phenotype doesn’t always tell you about a person’s heritage. you can’t assume that someone can’t be more than 5% non-sub saharan african based only on how they look.
      i’m assuming you’ve come to this conclusion based off of the fact that most AAs are dark skinned with afro hair. 20-25% often doesn’t show up in someone’s features, although it absolutely can! (like donyale luna or donna drake). my AA mom (dark skinned, afro hair) took a dna test and was 31% european (no other non-african dna, just african and european). my mestizo mexican dad looks 100% white (straight, sandy blond hair, white skin, blue eyes) but came back only 36% european with filipino and indigenous making up the rest. you need to read up about punnet squares and genetics before make silly statements like this.
      also! the majority AAs (my mother included) have mixed grandparents or great grandparents because, as we know, a lot of dsbm don’t want their children to look like them will primarily date and impregnate mixed women.
      and as someone who spends equal time in the AA black community and the mexican community, these issues and conversations aren’t exclusive to the black community. there’s friction between dark skinned, unambiguously indigenous mexicans and mixed mexicans as well.
      i’m obviously for mixed people having their own community, i’m here! but all of these communities i’ve found seem very disingenuous and hyper focus on black people (specifically in the US) despite us all coming from multiple different races, backgrounds and cultures. it seems like a lot of you just need therapy, not a platform😂
      i’m just wondering what the ACTUAL criteria is here. is it a percentage or a just phenotype? not all mixed people have “the look”, and they shouldn’t be excluded because of it! they’re still mixed.

    • @ayeadagio965
      @ayeadagio965 Před 5 měsíci +4

      @@iwillnotusethegothfont9312 I can just tell you jump to conclusions lmao. The only thing with phenotype mentioned in this comment was using Beyoncé and Rihanna as a example (and both actually have mixed heritage or a different race grandparent which proved my point) no where did it say have “dark skin and African features means you aren’t mixed”. Obviously the 25 percent is not meant in the LITERAL SENSE, when someone is referring to someone with a DIFFERENT RACE GRANDPARENT (not mixed grandparent), it’s the same way when people talk about “half black and half white people” (when most of the time dna wise they aren’t half and probably more non black), so if AA have more “non black dna” than this makes the identity policing on people with a completely different race grandparent EVEN MORE WEIRD (cause since you wanna speak in a literal sense, that would mean a mix person with a different race grandparent would technically have EVEN MORE non black blood) which STILL makes the identity policy and trying to force people to not claim mix as even more weird. You really wrote this big comment claiming people are judging AA people by phenotype, when the main point of this comment was someone who has colonizer blood from a million years ago telling someone who has a alive a present recent grandparent who is non black (not mixed) that they aren’t allowed to claim that grandparent and that there situation “is the same” IS NOT ACCURATE AT ALL. Someone with a non black grandparent who isn’t mix is most likely raised in the cultural (for example if they have a grandparent from Asia, Latin America, etc) so trying to pretend it doesn’t count is disingenuous….so I’m not getting why me saying this is so offensive to you and some of you fighting for the right to prove AA are actually “more than 5% non black” like the whole point of the comment borderline went over y’all heads or you are deliberately just trying to find a problem or have something to debate about LMAO. This comment was specifically for the people with a completely different race grandparent (doesn’t matter if they look mix or not) because I see AA people try to force them to not claim their grandparent and use the excuse “they are the same as them”, if that offends you sounds like a personal problem.

    I am 34% non-black. Growing up, I’ve always identified as a black-Jamaican-American. 3/4 of my grandparents were born in Jamaica and the other grandparent was from Guyana.
    I attended a culturally-mixed elementary and middle school, so I never questioned my race until I attended an all black high school.
    In high school, UABP would ask me, “what are you mixed with?” or others would joke and make comments about me not being fully black, even though I claimed to be.
    UABP always pointed out that they knew someone lighter than me, and I never knew why! It’s crazy that this is a shared experience amongst other MGMs. I never thought about my MGM background because it was the norm for me. I’ve always had mixed cousins & interracial couples in my family. Although, I did notice how people would make a big fuss about my hair. I used to go to the Dominicans and get my natural hair blown out and flat ironed from middle school to high school. People would think I was mixed with black & middle eastern or Indian. I have small percentages of it, but so it’s far removed I feel awkward claiming it. I guess if people can tell, then I shouldn’t be right?? When my hair is in its natural state, people touch it and say, “oh wow your hair is soft!” or (I get this one a lot) “how did you get your curls like that???”, when all I did was a wash and go or as if my hair just couldn’t NATURALLY be like that…this channel made me come to terms with being an MGM. And I’m going to be more proud about it from here on out :)

    There is a lot of ignorance when it comes to mixed people, especially those who are mixed in the less traditional way. People are still of the assumption that mixed means having one white parent and one black parent. Monoracial Black people struggle with this concept the most. I'm MGM 51% black, 40% white and 9% Malaysian. Black people still struggle with the idea because I don't have one white parent. I've also noticed that if you look more traditionally black and white, black people accept your mix more. However, I've had a lot of monoracial black people tell me I look mixed with Indian or Arab as a way of telling me that I don't look traditionally mixed, and therefore you are somewhat seen as less. My sister, however, looks more traditional and is considered more beautiful. People need to understand that mixed people can come out looking like anything! But that doesn't take away who you are or your mix!

    Exactly! Calling other people ugly is just weird! When you love yourself you don’t go around focusing on who’s ugly and who not, or even worse.. telling them they are ugly. It’s just so odd!
    Also, they tend to confuse being biracial vs being mixed. You can be mixed without being biracial aka multigenerationally mixed, aka triracial etc… multigenerationally mixed have big chunks of both or more races

      Right! I don’t think I’ve ever called a woman ugly in my life , like I seriously can’t remember calling anyone ugly. I don’t see a need to, plus it technically wouldn’t be true since whoever I call “ugly” is probably pretty to someone .

    I took a DNA test on 23 and Me 6 years ago. I found out that I am 75.1% Black, 23.3% European, and I have 1.2% of Trace Ancestry of Chinese and Indian Ancestry. I am shocked to found out that I am actually considered mixed race even though my parents and grandparents, etc. are Black.
    My parents got a DNA test done years ago. My Dad found out that he has a lot of European ancestry. I don’t remember the exact percentage of European ancestry that he has but I do know that his European % is higher than mine. My Mom has some European ancestry as well. My last name which came from my late paternal grandfather is an English last name. It is not a common name so growing up I always figured that I had some European ancestry. I am now learning to embrace all of my mixtures even though I was raised by a monocultural Black family.

      8% is STILL MIXED. Pure black people are JUST BLACK. Do we need to look up pictures of the slaves to KNOW they did NOT vary in facial features, hair textures and skin tones. We need to LEGALIZE putting distantly mixed people as just "black" and we need to stop putting directly mixed people as just "black". And multi-generational-mixed people (often called light-skinned) as just 'black'. If I removed that 8% from you biologically, you would CEASE TO EXIST ON THIS EARTH!!!!!!!!!!

I have grown up having to claim Black or made to feel bad about for claiming my other status. I was told if I have 1 drop of Black, then I'm Black. I've had ppl try to make me feel bad because they think I have it easier because they believe I have quote, “good hair, soft hair.” Their opinion not mine. My sister and I have our entire lives tanning with dark tanning oil to try to become as close to chocolate as possible. Even wearing tanning lotion and going to tanning beds during the fall and winter months. Ppl telling me I'm so-called lucky!!!! I’ve never been Black enough for Black ppl, white enough for white ppl and definitely NOT Asian enough!I'm super happy you made this page. I've felt almost alone in this journey.

    @dotcombabytm4644 Před 5 měsíci +5

    Hi and a good evening! I'm new to your channel and I just wanted to say how much I appreciate you and your channel and how happy I am to have discovered it.
    Now some background about me (and note, this'll be very very long): I'm a dark/brown skinned biracial/multiracial and MGM (multigenerationally mixed) woman of color (African American, European, Native/indigenous American, Creole, Egyptian, Greek, Palestinian, Romani, Melungeon, Portuguese, Italian, Ethiopian, Mexican, Jamaican, Chinese, Puerto Rican, French, Haitian, Japanese, Hawaiian, Dominican, Nigerian, Cuban, Filipino, Korean, Vietnamese, Māori, Malaysian, Zimbabwean, South Indian, Samoan, Indigenous and Aboriginal Australian, First Nations Canadian, Jewish, etc. I got some of everything lol), and I've been on a journey to first embrace my dark/brown skin complexion and now I've been navigating my perspective as a mixed race biracial and multiracial woman of color. And I actually just finished watching your video on Chrissie, Eloho, Cynthia G and a lot of these divester channels that claim to be safe spaces for black women and dark skinned black women but are really forums for divesters to promote and push a lot of hatred, bigotry, venom and hostility towards mixed race women which is something I noticed a lot. And I actually was initially in the divest movement for a time and Chrissie and Eloho were CZcams channels I once subscribed to, thinking that the divest movement was gonna help me as a black woman but then after a while--and very quickly, in fact--it became clear that the divest movement and community wasn't gonna help me and was actually more of a very toxic and volatile cult of femcels that hadn't healed from their experiences of colorism, intra-racism, sexism and misogynoir, had internalized those experiences and grew hateful and bitter from them and then turned into bullies with personality disorders and wasted time bashing, slamming, generalizing and hating black men as well as light skinned black women and mixed race, biracial and multiracial women instead of an edifying, helpful community aiding dark skinned black women into healing from colorism and misogynoir and improving and uplifting themselves and one another, and uplifting others. And channels like Chrissie and Eloho absolutely fed into these attitudes and mindsets which resulted in me distancing myself from those channels and the divest movement entirely, and I and other people that called out divesters and divest community's devilish toxicity and how damaging it was to black women, black womanhood, black communities, black female representation and image would face a lot of divesters' torrent barrage of some of the nastiest, rudest, and most hateful, disturbing abusive behavior and language I've ever seen be displayed by people, especially on Twitter. Not to mention that a lot of divesters on Twitter were literally rubbing elbows and getting buddy buddy with racist white men who were blatant white supremacist race soldiers with a sick, racially sexualized fetish for black women repeating these divesters' extremely racist, antiblack, white supremacist and colonialist talking points (there was even a Twitter space where black divester femcels and white supremacist cops were chatting with each other talking about ways to target and eradicate black men. Just seriously horrible, evil stuff). (And don't get me started on fatphobic attitudes, obsessive fetish-y white man worship, classism and rigidity cisnormative gender identity, role and expression standards rife within divester communities, all of which are also draining for me as someone who's also plus sized (skinny fat) and nonbinary/gender non-conforming who developed a fear and distrust of white men at one point!)
    Meanwhile, as a dark/brown skinned biracial/multiracial I've also had online experiences of, whenever I would talk about being mixed race and biracial, people accusing me of race baiting, of being self hating and "trying too hard to be exotic" and that I needed to just say that I was black and even facing cyberbullying for it--and all because I happened to be dark/brown-skinned while being mixed race and phenotypically not fitting everyone else's expected stereotype of what people assume a biracial looks like (which sounds like reinforcing the notion that only light skinned and fair or white passing people can be biracial but not dark or brown skinned people and thus, a lot of reinforcing/repackaging colorism, paper bag mentality, antiblackness, colonialism, Jim Crow/Willie Lynch culture norms, reverse colorism, lack of knowledge of the difference between phenotype and genotype and just overall people's hypocrisy, entitlement, projecting, double standards and people not having a job or any grass to touch lol 🤣😒).
    In short, just watching your video alone really opened my eyes to the fact that there are more complexities and rich layers to being mixed race than what people think, and also helped me finally grasp each conclusion that I reached silently a while ago but can now say openly:
    I can be proud of being black
    AND
    I can proud of being mixed race and biracial.
    I can acknowledge my privilege and show allyship to dark skinned black women
    AND
    I don't have to shrink myself or my heritage to placate to miserable, insecure self hating bullies who'd rather point fingers at others getting angry at the world than improve themselves.
    I have a right to take up space and stand up for myself and not hate myself to appease mean girls who weaponize colorism as an excuse to mistreat, bully, disrespect and dehumanize mixed women and others
    AND
    I can stay humble and not develop a colorist superiority complex.
    I also appreciate that you make clear that the exotical movement isn't for trying to incite division or competitiveness between black and biracial women cause that's not something I want either. We have enough of that toxicity already and we wanna stop the cycle.
    Thank you.
    Signed, a dark/brown skinned biracial/multiracial woman of color and a proud exotical 💜😊

    Skin color is subjective and I don't like using percentages much. But yeah you can consider 25% mixed it's very significant, actually, just because someone ain't 50/50 don't mean much. If you are 25% you can still look "mixed race" or you can look so called black. Or you can look in between the two extremes. My dad is very dad but has Asiatic eyes and type 2 hair. You got to remember people can be triracial or multiracial also meaning mixed with 3,4 or even 5 things depending on the person. Like you have to take parents' grandparents, great grandparents, great great grandparents into account all effect your phenotype. If you have say a mixed great grandparent then you can still have a possibility of looking mixed even tho you don't have a white parent.I don't have a white parent till like one of my 4th or 5th grandparents on my mom side. In her case it's 3rd or 4th grandparents.🤷

    A lot of what you say resonates with me. I think mixed men and woman receive passive aggression from mono racial black people. It's as if they don't like sharing a space with us but know that it's beneficial to be associated with us. I rock with black people politically and love the culture but when I'm around black people I feel like I have to prove myself to be an ally or something. Also, I think they view us describing our experiences as mixed as a 'flex' when it's just as speaking our truth.

    My father was a dark skinned Jamaican man and my mother is light skinned half St Lucian and half English which I guess makes me 75% black and 25% white . My skin complexion is light skin and my younger sister who I share the same parents with is brown skin . Me and my sister hate when people address us as different races whenever we go out i’d be the mixed one and she’d be the black one , whenever she wore her natural fro out people wouldn’t bat an eyelid but then when I wear mine it’s like people have never seen a light skin woman with SHORT SHRUNKEN 4c 4b hair texture and look at me as to say I was doing something wrong ESPECIALLY other black folks . It disgusts me how black/ mixed or whatever tf we are treat each other smh.

    Lol, dang I just realized my in my mind (UABM) father is actually multi generationally mixed too. He's at least 30% non bk, white. Wow it's pretty obvious when I think about the family. Now to get my DNA test.

( I probably have like 1%) ☠️ no one can stop you from showing love to the people groups who came together to create you! Multi culturalism is a beautiful thing

    Interesting, the average African America is 75-80% black (20-25 add mixture), so would you all refer to the majority of you as mixed? Maybe the argument need be for those mixed higher than 25% as a starting place???

      I don't like using percentages, but it depends on the person some Black Americans are more Indian than white. You got to understand we just mixed with white.
