As you may have already gleaned from the âMeet the Ownersâ series, the people who buy and run football clubs are far from a popular crowd, their ranks filed with oligarchs, dictators, criminals and rapacious billionaires. But there is perhaps one person amongst this ethically compromised cabal who provokes the ire of fans, the press, politicians and other businesspeople like no other.
And that is Newcastle United's English owner Mike Ashley.

There is a mistake in the voice-over of this video. It should state "Ashley *owned* a significant stake of Rangers". It currently says "owns". Ashley sold his stake in 2017. Apologies for any confusion.
Too sincere you lot are
Tifo Football I like your videos on football owners and itâs investments into the game now that football is big business I think you should do more videos on the finances of football as I like watching them videos but keep up the good work as I am a big fan since September 2016 guys.
Thank you for admitting that.
Tifo Football make a video about red star belgrade qualifying for UCL for the first time since they won it in 1991 and about their team
There was also a mistake in the beginning when you said Mike Ashley is a devout Newcastle fan. He's only a fan of money.
Mike Ashleyâs the kind of guy who would unplug your life support machine to charge his phone
and then charge you to have it back
Haaa I worked for the dog.. him and his ass licking prick Ian Baldwin
photom2 we were Dunstable drivers that were lie to and kept in the dark and often asked about the knew Shirebrook DC we were told our jobs were safe! Even by his side kick Ian Baldwin who I once considered my best mate we were shafted. We were called in to work on the Monday morning and walked out with no job that day.. no offer of a transfer to Shirebrook which I would of gladly taken.
I dare Alan Shearer to say that on Match of the Day. xD
Haha and then Rio Ferdinand would tell you you're lucky for him doing so!
*True Geordie rage intensifies*

Rafa, the players, Newcastle, and the fans deserve better than Mike Ashley
Goodbye Rafa :(
The premier league...
Why should he put his own money into Newcastle when returns are not guaranteed at all?
@@siu281 he shouldnât buy a football club then
@Voke Btw He doesn't need to. He owns the football club. He can do anything he wants with it. If the club is not fan owned, fans don't have a say in how it is run. Simple as that.
Ashley doesn't regret buying Newcastle one bit. The free advertising Sports Direct enjoy at St James Park has no doubt raised the company's revenue significantly. He'll see buying the club as a genius move. He wants to maintain that free advertising by the cheapest means possible.
LOL Bullshit!
He is selling it
âBuying Newcastle is free advertisingâ đ€Šđœââïž
Free?
Mike Ashley is the epitome of what is wrong in Britian and in English football.

Really? He is a great entrepeneur who saw an opportunity and expanded. Nothing he has done is really illegal. He employs thousands.
@@nobad6134 Sure he employs thousands. But expoliting people by paying them less than minimal wage, no insurance and no vacation isn't legal. Even if he found loopholes, why should thousands of people slave for pennies just so one guy could become a billionaire?
@@andrew7taylor Less than minimum wage? We know for sure that is illegal if he truly did that. I need to see the evidence of where and how he paid less than min wage. And people go to those jobs voluntarily. No one forces them to take the job. If there was no entrepreneur putting up the capital, then there would be no need for labour. It's a transaction both sides agree to terms about.
He is the best of Britain a self made entrepreneur. Noone is forced to work for him. As for nufc fans they just want someone to splash Arab money
I recently stayed near Newcastle before the Manchester City - Newcastle game and the owner of the b&b we stayed in noticed my City shirt and jokingly pretended to spit at me. I got in conversation about Ashley and he got very frustrated. It's really clear to see that Ashley's ownership of Newcastle isn't just about football. The people who support that club have it in their blood. A damn shame to see it being run so badly.
The way these videos aree layed out are so visually pleasing. I love the format, especially at the end how it speeds through all the drawings you've gone through in the video. It's just really well done
How can he be a newcastle fan???
he's not, he supports Spurs
@@00millern that's even worse
He knew how loyal the Newcastle fans are that's why he got involved with the club.Same with Rangers supporters.Thankfully we are rid of him now. Many a sleepless night we had over him but!
@@1882Stu He doesn't support Newcastle
He probably is a legit Newcastle fan, but he is a bigger fan of making more money.
Ashley sold his shares in Rangers. You are also sorely mistaken if you think he has only made ÂŁ4m from Newcastle. No mention of retail deals etc...
Thank God, I just took and interest in Scottish football and my jaw dropped when I clicked on this vid and heard that Ashley owns a decent share of Rangers. Sent me in an hour long frenzy reading on the history of Rangers' ownership.
Technically true but the video is about Ashley and his ownership/dealings with Newcastle, the retail deals etc. although obviously orchestrated by Ashley are conducted through Sports Direct so technically he doesn't directly profit.
@@MrBostonceltics99 The Newcastle fanzine "True Faith" did an excellent podcast with a Rangers fan group where they delve into the shocking exploitative business practices of Ashley whilst he was a shareholder in Rangers including using Ibrox as collateral for loans the club didn't need and signing over club image rights to himself. You should definitely check it out
@@MrBostonceltics99 He's finished at Rangers. The Rangers support forced him out!It wasn't easy but!We can only now buy official club merchandise after 3 or 4 long years because of him!Even now Rangers retail arm will take months to recover because of this man.Rangers were getting 4p in the pound for kits etc and Sports Direct were getting the other 96p!!!
Guys you should do a video on Red Bull company acquiring football teams and trying to rename them...RB Leipzig & Salzburg being the most interesting.
The fans shuold take over newcastle, just like swansea
What would be different if the fans ran the club instead of Ashley? Ashley is neither pumping money into the club (like the owners of PSG and Man City) nor is he bleeding it for profit (like the Glazzers). As they don't have millions to invest, the fans would have to run the club with a sustainable model, ie. the club's revenue should cover its costs. So, basically the same way as Ashley runs it. Yes, the workers might be treated better than the Ashley's Sports Direct employees, but the fans don't give s**t about this. All that matters to them is that the club doesn't get relegated and with a sustainable business model it's harder when other clubs don't follow the UEFA FFP rules.
This should happen with every club.
LOL
My team in Dublin BOHS are a fan run club but to be honest are club us not rich and the irish football league is in bits but were getting are new stadium in 2023 so theirs something good for us
My Gran taught Mike Ashley maths, so should she be accountable for Newcastleâs problems.
Hahaha brilliant!
Also, slight technicality, Keegan resigned because Ignacio Gonzalez and Xisco were signed without his approval as a favour to agents. He wasnât sacked, it was proven to be constructive dismissal.
There was actually a ÂŁ350million bid on the table last November. ÂŁ150million up front, then ÂŁ200million in instalments over the next few years. It even included a bonus of ÂŁ50million up front if we were to qualify for the Champions League. Seems a pretty reasonable offer in my opinion. Rafa will probably leave at the end of the season when his contract expires, gutted Ashley is still in charge.
Yes, the nightmare continues indefinitely. At least last season there was a glimmer of hope for the first half of the season. I doubt anybody will pay ÂŁ400million for this club. Too much damage has been done to the clubs brand by Ashley. He expects that there will be no cost or consequences for his decade of mismanagement. Shocking.
Aylez... defo buddy rafa is offski... it's a shame under a proper chairman rafa could of made the toon great again... Mike Ashley is a grade A wanker... don't know if he was born 1 or came 1 with practise but by fuck he has excelled as 1
Not sure where you got the idea that he's a Newcastle fan? According to multiple sources including Derek Llambias, former Newcastle United Managing Director, he's a lifelong Chelsea fan
Friends of ashley from his childhood
Yeah heâs not a Newcastle fan, always heard he was either a Chelsea or Tottenham fan
MemeMaster420 heâs a spurs fan
@@alexchorltonwilson2642 "Mike is a Chelsea supporter. Everyone thinks he is a Tottenham supporter, by the way, and that upsets him. But if Stamford Bridge was changing names, he'd have a view. It will always be Stamford Bridge." - Derek Llambias
Tottenham fan I believe
Wow brilliantly put guys.. you inspire me so much to post good content.
This is fantastic
As you mentioned there is a lot of emotion towards Mike Ashley and this was told in a balanced manner
We can all see the atrocities that he has done with his own companies and Newcastle but from a business scene he is a success which is sad to see with our current government allowing him to get away with Zero hours etc.
Do a Leeds under Bielsa tactical profile
That poor pregnant woman đđą
Itâs their choice to have a child. Itâs her choice to work there.
Ains Mas itâs people like you why those with power mistreat people and when people refuse to do these jobs you call them lazy.
Mike Ashley: "there's no way I can compete with the new breed of owners like Sheik Mansour".
Tottenham: 4 consecutive top 4 finishes and CL finalists.
The worst owner ever, seriously. You may say "oh, yeah, he got rid of all the debt" but what about taking a champions league competing club and relegating it 2 times? No ambition whatsoever, ended this transfer window once again in profit, hates the fans, refuses to speak out publically...
âWorst owner everâ lol yeah no mate
But Newcastle were no longer a champions league team when he took over Newcastle in 2007. Newcastle havenât been in the champions league since 2003. Newcastle weâre already on a massive decline before he took over yoyoing between bottom half and top half finishes.
Adam Hallsworth from my point of view obviously he would be. he is the worst owner in the premier league tho, without a doubt
Create Mistakes Irrelevant. I'm absolutely sure it would not have had such a big decline like 2 relegations without Ashley.
ed kal maybe not. I just couldn't help myself pointing out that Newcastle were no longer challenging for the champions league like you suggested in your comment.
RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg are in the same Europa League group. Your earlier Leipzig coverage was excellent. Can you make a video about UEFA rules on owners having more than one team compete? It's my understanding Red Bull is violating these. Even if they aren't, this issue will grow as RB and City expand their enterprises. Your journalism would be incisive.
I love these videos (to all at Tifo) and this one especially is great.
However, I would just like to point out that Mike Ashley has not made Newcastle United financially stable. He has doubled the debt of the club which has been relegated twice under his stewardship.
Just because the debt is owed to him, doesn't mean the club is stable financially. It has a massive impact.
Enjoyed the video, quality video keep it up.
I hope that Mike Ashley leaves Newcastle as soon as possible, I want to see Newcastle back fighting for at least a Europa League place.
Iâd be interested in a video on PSG under Tuchel and/or Dortmund under Favre
after 1 game?
he was not fired, he left due to the bus bombing and the way the club treated the incident...if my memory serves me right
Val K I donât mean right now, but sometime in the future
Great video, guys!
I honestly believe that our club will die in the coming years if we don't stand up to him now, however protesting outside his shops will only inconvenience some poor 0 hour contract teenagers, yet I digress, we are no longer Newcastle United, we are Sports Direct FC. It is proven that Ashley only cares about money and therefore the only way to get him out of our club is to not show up to games and to starve him of that revenue, but I know we can't and that kills me inside...
Very sad indeed mate
Such a quality channel đ
Do one on villas owners: Nassef Sawiris, Wes Edens and Tony Xia
Do one about Pinto da Costa, the president of FCPorto, he is the president who has the most titles in the world. He is the president since 1982 and still is to this day.

Would love to see a video about the brief owner of Inter Milan from Indonesia...!! Please?? đ
Oh, so heâs not just a terrible team owner, heâs a terrible employer in general. Splendid.

If possible, and the slim chance you're reading this, could you possibly do an Oyston meet the owners, being a blackpool fan myself, it would be fascinating for me.
Many thanks.
I feel we were just a advising space for sports direct Iâm glad we now have owners who want to invest in our club for the long term
His theory that he doesn't have a billion dollar in bank is absolutely true. Most normal simpleton people don't understand that
As a liverpool supporter and watching football since early 70's. I've always had a soft spot for Newcastle. When huge money started coming in, I always wondered why the likes of Newcastle and Forrest where passed by with people with huge bank accounts. If this happens for Newcastle, I hope they don't go the way like cheaty. More know as man city. Good luck Newcastle, I hope Ashley gets kicked well and truly out of your club.
Guess you havenât been reading the news Newcastle has just been sold to the Saudi royal family being worth more than 1 trillion becoming the richest football club in the world
I hope he sells the club

Can you do Daniel Levy & Spurs?
Shut your shops and create a trade catalogue. Do something with postage.
You listed treading water and avoiding relegation as his priorities but he consistently refuses to invest enough to allow for any kind of confidence that we can avoid relegation. He's taken us down twice and at the time of writing we are heading for a third demotion under his ownership. So as well as being one of the worst people in the country he's also incompetent.

Great mention of the Swiss Ramble. They are always great for the finance details...
A video about Fulham owner Shahid Khan would be interesting as how he could fork out more than a 100 million in the window when most owner in the premier league couldn't
Don't forget that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon also showed interest in purchasing the club.
Fair play Mike Ashley is kind of self made, however a 10,000 pound interest free loan isnt something everyone can start with. I think Richard Branson also had a lot of help from his parents.
1,500% interest... damn!

Ashley was born in Walsall actually.
Fucking hell! Just renaming the arena is a sign for me that Newcastle need new owners.

Tifo Football could you make a video on third lanark
lol that giving birth story is so funny how people believe that i do not no
This video is now especially hilarious since Wonga just went into administration
Ashley did pump about ÂŁ110 million into the club to take the debt off the books but he effectively transferred the debt onto himself and said the club owed him all the money back plus the money he spent to buy it. So while the debt was taken off the books it wasnât actually cleared and I donât understand how youâre owed the money back that youâve spent to buy something. He wants the club to be self sufficient and not in debt and thatâs all very well but you live and die by decision making in football and heâs got too many decisions wrong, especially with appointments and not remaining competitively or heâs dithered making decisions and then panicked and got it wrong, he wants the club to be in the premier league but you canât stand still and hope to scrape by with unproven cheap french players which he undoubtedly tried to do because he didnât want to spend huge amounts of money to get decent players and therefore go into debt but thatâs where football is a vicious circle and they were relegated again because of poor investment and so the club owed him money again in his eyes because he put another loan in to get promoted straight back. As for a takeover I do actually thinks he wants to sell but he wants the new owners to give him advertising and merchandise rights and they can buy the players so itâs not his problem anymore.
After learning about Newcastle in the last couple months I've learned how much hate is there for Mike Ashley. And I thought Mark Davis of the NFL Team Oakland Raiders (Soon to be Las Vegas) was bad.
