Thanks for walking me through the process! I was able to get the oil change for the '17 500x out of the way in a snap thanks to you
You're very welcome, CJ! I had so much fun doing this together. Hopefully it won't be our last collaboration!!! :-) I put a link to your CZcams channel in the show notes!
Thanks for another encouraging how-to.
Thank you, Marco!!!
Chris, thanks so much. I'm no mechanic. Getting ready to do my first oil chane (solo) on my new CB500F. And this was super helpful. Cheers....
You're very welcome, Jeff! It's super easy. Just follow the steps and you'll be fine. Good for you for taking taking the time to learn to do your own maintenance!!!
great video once again Chris thanks for sharing
Thank YOU, Dolly! I hope you got a good laugh or two. Hey, at least now you know the answer to life, the universe, and everything! ;-)
@@MotoPhotoAdventures I always enjoy your sense of humor and your videos
Always hand tighten oil filters unless you have a torque specification
Excellent advice!
Thanks for the break down, super informative! How did you get the stickers off your bike so cleanly?
Here's a quick video on that... czcams.com/video/nWQu9tZEcC0/video.html
Super easy! Check out the video Jason linked to in his comment.
Nice video BUT is it worth it to put all this foil and the headache if it is going to leak……2 bolts only, hold RR skid plate. When I change my oil I take the RR skid plate down. It is easy to put it back. But that just me.
Next year I have a plan to go to Alaska and I am quite sure that if I have to change the oil my self on the road I will not take the RR skid plate down.
One tip about crush washer. I use copper one. I just heat it really good and cool it down in a water than it becomes soft and reapply it. I decided to go that way because couple times I order aluminum crush washer and it comes wrong size.
Thanks MotoPavilion! Great tips!!!
I'd like to know more about that seat? Factory seat pushes me to close to the tank.
Youll want to ask CJ about it over on his channel at czcams.com/channels/tzn9BDzrATffjx01scTbPw.htmlfeatured/featured
My Rally Raid 2 setup has the wheels, the tubless spoked wheels are nice but are heavy, after you have smashed a few rocks that skid plate pin under there becomes a pain to get in and out I think next time I have mine out I'm going to drill a hole in it and put a pull ring of some sort on it.......just a heads up K&N sold out and moved to china a few years ago the nut on their filters has a problem with falling off (welds break) it's so bad that they are outlawed on race tracks, tends to spray oil on the front tire when it fails never a good thing................ I only ever hand tighten oil filters on install, to remove large pair of channel lock pliers work just fine getting the old filter off, just did it yesterday on my 500X prepping for a 3rd trip up the MABDR next week....
Thanks for the awesome comment and tips, Rockbreaker!
Hi, do you use 10w40 all year round, even on winter ? I live in southern Europe where summers are really hot 40+ celcius with mild to cold winters. Can i use the 10w40 oil with no problem ? I have a 2022 model. Thank you.
Hello friend! I am in Charleston, SC. It is warm here almost all year, with mild winters. I usually switch to 10w30 in winters. But in some years I have left 10w40 in the motorcycle with no problems. Maybe this is a good question to ask your locak motorcycle mechanic since they will know better what to recommend for your climate? I hope this helps.
Please sir, can you tell me what seat is that?
That's the "tall" seat from Sargents.
Chris, do u know of anyone installing a oil cooler? So my question is where is the bolt to remove and attach the oil cooler line ?
Hi Rick! Here's a video we recorded on replacing the CB500X water pump: czcams.com/video/1Cv7U95unfo/video.html. Maybe it will be of assistance? Unfortunately we don't have one on the oil cooler yet. Cheers!
@@MotoPhotoAdventures I'm not asking for a video, only a pic pointing out where the oil line would attach would be great...
@@MotoPhotoAdventures a video replacement of the water pump does no good whatsoever !!
Hi @@rickmcclaskey2828! Sorry, many. Wish I could help. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of that or I would gladly send it to you.
Hmm.. Rally Raid must have 3 levels to get spoke rims included. Which puts it more in price with a Yamaha T700 ? Interesting .
Hi Kevin! That is correct. On earlier models (2013-2018) they had a Level 3 kit which included the upgrade to a 19" front wheel, and spoked wheels. After Honda upgraded itself to a 19" front wheel in 2019, there was less need for the L3 kit. So now, you mostly see the L2 kit, which CJ has on his (increasing suspension by 2"), and the L1 kit I have on mine (better quality suspension but no increase in height).
@@MotoPhotoAdventures ah... I got it. 👍
Hey guys. I don't know if CJ has experienced the same vibration noise at various RPM that I have. But I would like to share my solution if he is experiencing the same thing. I also have a 2021 with the rally raid level 2 and the same skid plate. So ask CJ and I can share the solution.
Hi Chris! I don't believe he's experiencing any vibrations. I've ridden his bike as well, and didn't notice any. Ironically, I had some vibrations on mine after I installed the Givi engine guards (the original models were known for doing this). But Givi replaced mine under warranty and that solved those vibrations right away. If you do have a tip, though, PLEASE share it! Even if CJ doesn't have a problem, I'm sure it would help someone who does. Cheers!!!
@@MotoPhotoAdventures Chris at the famous 6000rpm buzzy spot on the CB it would make the pan (super thin piece steel welded to the skid frame on the rally raid skid plate) just resonate. At first I thought it was the front bolt on heat shield and went as far as rubber mounting that. What fixed it was using some dynamat type material from Amazon mounted to the top side of the skid pan. I hit it with a little black heat paint and all the tinie noises were gonzo. Oh and BTw it was you that made me change to the 16t sprocket. Thank u. It is transformative. Much love. Chris. I have pictures if curious
@@bonesworld7178 WOW!!! What a great tip! Thanks for sharing about the dynamat material...just brilliant! Glad you're enjoying the 16T sprocket as well. I'm going on 40K miles with mine and still loving it!
