    I just change the oil in my CB500XA with no mess at all. I leave it on the side stand, drain it for about an hour. Then tilt it from side to side to get all the oil out. Put the drain plug back in hand tight. Then remove the oil drain pan which holds all the oil. And then put it on the center stand. Put the oil drain pan back under it. Remove the drain plug to drain any remaining oil. and then take off the oil filter.

    Since after removing the drain plug, the oil flows backwards, I find it better not to have the bike on the center stand when changing the oil.

    Another excellent TMJ from the CB vault. I now know what to buy you for Christmas- a roll of tin foil so that you don’t ration it in future. Mrs CB may also need some new kitchen trays and measuring jugs for Christmas after your video. Second only to stripping the engine and cleaning all the components through the dishwasher.
    Keep those TMJs coming 😂😂😂

      In my defence I was coming down with flu, though didn't realise it during filming. I always wait till 'She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed' is faraway. The dishwasher, as you suggest, superb for removing all evidence. But too much tin foil might give me away! 😉 Cheers as always! 👍👍

    What's the longest you've rode in one day? I'm south cost uk and I took mine to Wales this summer, and I couldn't of picked a better bike for the beacons and devils staircase, this bike was made for those roads.really natural,great video.

    • @CodgerBiker
      @CodgerBiker  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I've done about 450+ miles in a day. It is a comfortable bike to trundle along on 👍

    My CBX gets thrashed regularly and I feel more comfortable changing the oil every 4000 miles. I got caught out with the centre stand first time, when the oil fired out almost horizontally and pissed everywhere apart from the pot I put underneath 🤬
    It’s due the 16000 mile valve service next, beyond my capabilities, and the dealership has quoted £410. Along with the tyres, chain and sprockets it’ll need as well, I’m really looking forward to that one 🙄

    • @CodgerBiker
      @CodgerBiker  Před 9 měsíci

      I'm of the same thinking. Also that oil is quite thin. Valve checks I'll leave to the dealership, there's a lot to remove isn't there? Not too bad though compared to some. 👍👍

    Do you do all your own servicing?
    Where did you get your workshop manual from?

    • @CodgerBiker
      @CodgerBiker  Před 9 měsíci

      I only do basics. Valves etc I leave to dealership these days. I was lucky to find a manual on eBay in USA. Hard to find for 2022+ bikes. There are a few online ones for earlier models if you ask on the FB group for a PDF link. They're not so different. 👍

    Hi Codger. Just about to change the oil on my 2023 CB500X. I've done about 4000 miles. Did you find your bike quite tappety when starting from cold? Mine is and it's pretty annoying considering my 44,000 mile CBF500 sounds good right from the off. Cheers.

    • @CodgerBiker
      @CodgerBiker  Před 4 měsíci

      It wasn't too bad before, or after, the oil change. 👍

    It is always a wee bit messy, the drain plug should be vertical.

    • @CodgerBiker
      @CodgerBiker  Před 9 měsíci +2

      It'd be easier. Must get a magnetic drain plug too. 👍👍

  • @dimosthenismagos7982

    proper oil quantity per manual is 2.6 l not 2.7 l . Oil on side glass should be about mid way. You overfilled a little.

    • @CodgerBiker
      @CodgerBiker  Před 9 měsíci

      Correct, but Depends on how much you get out. Anywhere below top of window on level ground is fine. Not critical. It's just above middle today 👍

    What is Honda's policy if you've done all your own servicing and you have a warranty claim?

    • @CodgerBiker
      @CodgerBiker  Před 4 měsíci

      Depends I guess on the country. I think (here) you have to prove you followed the recommended procedures, but don't quote me on that.

    • @17405pop

      @@CodgerBiker Thanks for the prompt reply. I've owned a T7 from new in 2022 and now downsizing to the Honda 500 NX. I do all of my own servicing and repair work and Yamaha's policy on that is quite generous. You're pretty much OK so long as you use OEM or accepted alternatives. (Oh, and a record)
      Honda's view seems much more ambiguous from what I can find.
      I just thought you might've found out more than I have.
      The T7 was quite a hassle for routine servicing considering it's classed a 'simple' bike.
      Even a plug swap took me almost half a day! And, the valve clearance check is more fiddly than on some in-line 4's!!!
      Part of my reasoning for getting the Honda is its relative simplicity (I hope) on that score.

    • @CodgerBiker
      @CodgerBiker  Před 4 měsíci +1

      It's a simple bike, but accessing plugs etc is quite involved, buried under the tank. Most modern twins seem to be the same. Due to a spine injury I simplified my bikes so I only have an NT1100 now. Road only and gentle until (fingers crossed) I get back to full fitness one day. 🤞

    Piece of cardboard, slight V in the middle, up behind the sump plug as you remove it, all the oil will drain into the front tray.
