It's especially egregious because the whole reason they covered up the fact that he was adopted in the first place was because they wanted him to be a legitimate heir. But... apparently they could have changed the law to include adopted children as heirs the whole time, so yeah, why cover up the adoption???

This is why I love written cunning and very much evil steriotipical villains as the protagonists
Example: An aspiring queen who knows she is beautiful and the genes as well as the mind to capture people, making her very egocéntrica but that does not stop her from the main goal of providing a golden age to her dinasty after the dark age of her family.
A mad scientist who no one believes and ignored and called as a psycho simply because he thinks of finding a way to save an already doomed planet.
A bloodthristy warrior who will battle an entire army for the sake of protecting his family, even if he has to be really brutal so the rest of his enemies back off.
An apathetic person carrying out the weight that more emotional vulnerable people wouldn't take simply because he knows he can do it.

i usually take all these “villains were the heroes the whole time” theories with a grain of salt, but the heroes are so scummy that yes this theory is absolutely true.

Why did Simon want to be king though? Was it because he truly wanted to help the country and had a sense of altruism or was it because he wanted what Richard had? It’s not about the ambition itself, it’s about the motive and how he was willing to step on his own cousin to get ahead instead of, I dunno, discussing it with his cousin first behind closed doors. He totally humiliated Richard and loved every second of it.
I feel like they could've done really well if Richard acted as the face of the country, keeping morale up, while Simon worked to keep the country stable behind the scenes. They honestly could've done well with that system.

That would’ve been better plus if there’s two as long as they communicate good with every other the kingdom wouldn’t mind because they have a king who listens to them and a king who makes sure the place is running smoothly

Plot twist: the curse is real, and it still affected Amber's child. And in the fourth movie, the child grows up, murders both Richard and Amber, and Simon must save Aldovia from the maniac child.

It's been a year later and I'm still waiting for the 4th installment of this series:
Christmas Prince 4: The Civil War.
Where the royal is in peril, trying to solve the mystery of the missing socks in the middle of their holiday trip in Bahamas in order to escape the war with neighboring countries.
Where once again, Simon is being a scumbag by trying to stop the war.
Me and my mum had a lovely time watching the 1st movie, not for the plot but for the continuity errors in 1 particular scene here scarf keeps magically moving and her sleeve keeps going up and down, once we noticed this we couldn't stop laughing. One of my fav memories

Except almost nowhere in the world monarchy does keep real power. In most cases king has purely representative, role with government and parlament being largely independent bodies (so basically a democracy).

To me the worst thing the protagonists did was probably the economic disaster and the many lives that got upended all thanks to the king's focus on his personal interests over the kingdoms. Even if didn't trust his cousin, he could have hired someone else who knew economics (after running a background check on said person) and listened to their advice. Maybe even hire multiple people and compare their advice
My roommate's friend has a pet theory that christmas prince takes place in an alternate universe with a different history where England colonized Eastern Europe and that's why there seems to be so many British people and culture in what seems to be Eastern Europe. Just in case you wanted an excuse to do another holiday ep on these movies (god i hope, i love this ep)

@@she3479 Its because hollywood portrays anything in europe who are not "bad" to have british accents. They do the same thing in many films about rome.
I think we can all agree it would be much more fun if the romans were portrayed with italian accents.
Also: Simon is much hotter than Richard even in looks. Plus, Richard acts like a child. Not a king, husband or remotely a father. He's not fit for anything.

I want to see a movie like this where the prince who doesn’t want the throne, just doesn’t. Simon gets the throne, the country thrives, and the prince and the lead girl get to live the comfortable life, and play the loving royal couple. They are the face of the country, but not as rulers, as mascots. Simon runs the show and they do all the charismatic stuff that Simon isn’t good at.
I love how you can actually see the heroine's transformation into a snooty rich lady on the covers

Here's the difference between Richard and Simon, Richard never wanted the responsibilities of the King, only wanted to get the girl and have fun. Simon on the hand actually wanted the job and cared about the well being of the kingdom, people. But his actions looked sneaky so no one really believed him or even wanted to give him a chance. I kinda wish they didn't make Simon the villain cause he doesn't even look like a villain, it's not like he was manipulating people or trying to get them harmed. He was very blunt about his goals and didn't lie unlike the main characters.
Let's just hope the next movie will include Simon leading a worker revolution to Change the monarchy to a communist regime leaded by Simon.

I would love to see a fourth film where the nation falls into a bloody revolution as the people have finally become sick of the monarchy with Richards reign being the nail in the coffin, and Simon takes the lead as he leads the nation overhauls the government in order to bring Aldovia into a new age.

I saw glimpses of this movie while I was working on my computer and my mom was watching this on tv nearby, I saw the orphan snowball fight scene and had to react with force because of how dumb the prince was choosing snowball fights over a very important job that will affect many people that isn't even demanding or labor-intensive in any way.
I could clearly see the writers wanting to portray the prince as this lovable carefree and goofy prince who just loves to be with his people....but failed really hard.
It's not Richard's fault that the country had economic problems. He did the math, but Leopold embezzled the money instead of investing it into Aldovian countries like it was supposed to. He's only guilty of trusting Leopold during his first year of kingship where Leopold, remember, played king in the interim after Richard senior's death and was supposed to mentor Richard junior.
He still could've punished Leopold and returned the money to his kingdom if he wasn't as incompetent as he's portrayed here. Unless I'm missing something....

Am I the only one who thinks it would be a lot of fun to see a story like this from the "villain's" point of view?
Just, a competant, pragmatic person trying to solve serious problems while a silly couple carries on uselessly in the background, only occasionally interjecting to remind the main character that they consider him/her the villain for stepping on their romantic mood or not having the holiday spirit.
He offhandedly roasts them; they recoil, reaffirmed of his villainy and of their importance to the plot; he goes on with his business, totally oblivious, and totally forgets about them.
Eyes of the Cervino so, Last Action Hero style? In other words, where the movie is presented as self-aware of the usual formula but is told from a counter-formulaic perspective?
I personally would actually love to see this movie rewritten and exposed like this for the dumbed-down trite it is.

I remember when this episode premiere and Matpat make the joke of: “none is gonna what this episode” I genially told myself: I will Matpat, because you made it, because you are on it. Coming from the future, I now know that I love this channel not only because of Matpat but because of the whole Theorist team. I love the editing, specially the Easter eggs they hide, I love the format, how every one of the members have their own touch when they are in an episode, everything. All of this just to say thank you all of you for making great videos and for keeping doing them.

She literally had the callback dates changed so they couldn't make it. She wasnt really concerned with anyone other than herself. She also tries to gain troys affection with special treatment and connections despite him being with Gabriella. Like its really okay to purposely meddle in someone's relationship? Not to mention the way she walks over her own brother and tried to get all the other people to quit because all she cared about was troy.

Out of the blue, on Sunday of this week, I thought about this video so I watched the first movie Sunday, then the second Monday and the third last night. That's where you're wrong! I've watched this episode at least 10 times already.
Jenny Nicholson did a video a year ago about these movies saying the country is locked in a perpetual Christmas apocalypse. She even dives into the subtleties of costume design. I highly recommend it and her channel.
Also noteworthy is that all of Film Theory's screenshots of Amber had her looking unhappy. Makes you wonder how happy the characters really are in these "holiday romance" movies.

Personally, I love the movies.
But...they're not really that bad....
One moment I was going "this looks like bourgeoisie propaganda" at my netflix and the next moment I was watching Matpat and Jenny Nickelson both agree that this film is basically slander against Simon, the only competent person in Aldovian royalty.

I still feel called out when I watch this even after all this time because I had seen all these movies before his theory
To be fair, Simon does get his status as a Duke restored by the end of the trilogy and is more or less redeemed in the eyes of the Royal Family.
Even still I find it ridiculous that no one would listen to or trust him in the second or even the third movie as he shows repeatedly he legitimately cares about the wellbeing of the kingdom but whatever.

@@deen7530 yes. Simon is the lawful king, as well as the most qualified person to be king, yet is deprived of the throne by someone isn't really the son of the previous king. It's only a matter of time until we learn Simon had a little brother who tried to steal the throne from him too.

To be honest, Aldovia would be much better off joining with a larger neighbor (I am surprised it didnt get absorbed into France or Germany a century or two ago) with better economic access to a larger market and having actual responsible government.
