Loyal Theorists, we have found the Simpon’s hometown of Springfield; we’ve even found Peter Pan’s Neverland. But WHERE in the world is Barbieland? Margot Robbie’s Barbie and Ryan Gosling’s Ken travel by boat, roller blades, rocket, car, and more to leave their world and enter ours. But, according to the Barbie Movie logic their world is also in our world. Grab a map and let’s get to searching!

I love how Weird Barbie literally stated in the movie ‘don’t think too hard about it’ but Matt went and did the opposite
I was thinking that Lol
I mean his theory videos have ALWAYS been about thinking too hard.
Ikr🤣🤣
Matpat’s whole identity really is based upon overthinking everything lmao
except instead of thinking too hard he's spot on
As someone who lives in Monterrey, I must say: that explains why Ken is obssessed with horses! Stereotypically, Monterrey people dress like cowboys and are into cowboy culture. We even had a governor we called "Bronco"

as a fellow northern mexican (sonora) the north of mexico is basically "the frontier" it still sorta feels like the old west sometimes, probably because we arent being barraged by americans like yucatan.
The amount of research that goes into this is crazy. Gotta respect the dedication
One small problem with the routing. The Desert scene clearly displays a Saguaro Cactus, which is only found in the Sonoran Desert that is located in California, Arizona, and north western Mexico. That means Barbie and Ken had to go around Baja California until they reached the Sonoran Desert in the Mexican state of Sonora and then travel to the Chihuahuan Desert and then on to Monterrey.
YES. My thoughts exactly. Although Monterrey was a good guess, I actually was thinking It's Tijuana or something. It's a Coyote escapade to cross the border without being suspected of immigration
Matt cherry picking details and leaving out contradictions? SAY IT AINT SO!?
There's also no beach in Monterey. Didn't Barbieland have a beach? I think somewhere along the coast of the state of Sonora, Mexico would make much more sense.
Mat acknowledging the fact that Barbie land is literally shown on the earth then continuing on his rant is the most hilarious thing ever 😂

The only addition that I would make to this theory is that Monterrey is actually a Kendom. We have Cola de caballo (horse tail) cascade and our most emblematic mountain is called Cerro de la Silla (saddle mountain). Most of our grampas houses look like a Mojo Dojo Casa House due to the horse depictions.
what is a kendom? a kingdom of kens?
@@CharlesAnderson-qv2wi You haven't watched the movie?
Fun fact. If you pay close attention in the minute following this time stamp 9:19 you can see the camping route goes through Santa Barbara. Barbara being Barbies full name (;
Santa Barbara = Holy Barbie
I'm not gonna lie, BarbieLand being in Mexico is both the most hilarious and on brand theory for Matpat.
Surprised it hasn't melted the Barbie's, they don't like hot places.
this really took barbie cooking to the next level
🫠
@@madpsycho6Monterrey is not as hot as LA 😭😭 it even gets really cold during autumn and winter season. It’s a misconception that the entirety of Mexico is hot lol.
@arbol262 blame the ozone in LA for that, we don't have a massive tear in the atmosphere and it still hit 115 outside
As a mapmaker, I applaud these cartographic quests for fictional lands like Springfield and now Barbie Land.

Can MatPat tell his method of deduction? Like, how does his theories take shape so accurately and are consistent. I would like to take a leaf from his book.
It’s cuz he doesn’t take contradictions into considerations a lot of times.. there are few details that can be seen in the movies but they don’t point it out in these videos just to make their theories easier to accept.
Barbieland would be a great idea for a theme park, or at least a section in a theme park. Maybe one day, with the popularity of the movie, Mattel will make a deal with Lego to add a Barbie section to Legoland.
That’s kinda like suggesting for Burger King to make a deal to sell Big Macs
I believe it’s being built in Dallas Tx
as someone who lives in Monterrey this was a big surprise. can't believe I've lived in Barbie land this whole time, now I can def brag about it. thanks Matpat!

Such a cool theory! I personally would be interested in seeing a theory about the old animated Barbie movies, talking about the popular fan theory about all the early 2000's movies coming from the same universe and all being connected :]

Yes, my childhood must return to me!
I thought it wasn't a theory. In one movie barbie was an actress, and that's easily a way to connect all of the movies.
Yet another awesome theory! I’d love to see MatPat cover murder drones in the future, in my eyes that would be a good one for MatPat!
The Barbies having job descriptions but not the Kens reminds me of this documentary about a rural village in China where it's a matriarchal society; the Mosuo. All the women doing manual labor, rearing the kids, and be in positions of power while the men have very little responsibilities.
How can you ignore that Monterrey is a landlocked area whereas Barbieland is clearly coastal?
But it's not coastal tho, everything was made out of plastic including the sea.
@@TheNeon-rh4kk in the rocket clip you can clearly see barbieland is coastal
@@grantsummar1742 well you know how inaccurate Barbies and Kens are with their perception of Earth. 😅

@@niallashton1068 But Tijuana is NOT landlocked, it has coast, Some years ago just before the c0vid there was (not the biggest) but a Mattel factory down in Tijuana, just down the border, and maybe its not the harsh desert we see in the movie... here is no forest, just the drive from tijuana to san diego there is some desertic and mountain highways like the 905, even more if you take in consideration where the actual factory was in the eastern Tijuana near the pretty desertic city of Tecate and its much closer to LA, and we in Tijuana held the record of the most frequently crossed international border and quoting Krusty its the Happiest place on earth, one you could called Magical....

I'm actually from Mty, NL and I find it hilarious that Barbiie Land could be there, specially with how neatly every bit of the journey fits. The only real nitpick I have with the theory is that BarbieLand has a beach, which Monterrey desperately needs but wouldn't be able to have, other than that, pretty good theory all things considered.
could be la presa de la boca(?) since on the movie isnt actually a beach
@@claudiachazarolee1959 yeh, tho I can't imagine moving that much sand to Presa de la Boca

very good video mat, I like your style of thinking and I appreciate how much time and effort must have been put into this video and videos in the past
As a mexican, it's funny because there is a group of Regios (people from Monterrey) that actively want to separate the north from the rest of Mexico, and is where you find men building their masculinity in horses (soccer and barbecue too) hahaha
They might be Incestuous hicks but that's a pretty good idea.
Wow, that's perfect!!
I'm shocked by how well it all actually lines up.
Exactly!
Barbie land has a beach though?
@nicholas6630 I mean if you've seen the movie you'd notice that beach and ocean is not real lol
As a former Lompoc, CA resident, nice to to see Solvang and Vandenburg getting some recognition.
This is the kind of theories I’m subscribed to this channel That fuels my obsession 😂❤
Officially, according to Barbie lore, Barbie and her friends lives in Malibu (especially in the Life on the Dreamhouse series), which is located in California, United States. And I don't think there's any need to look for Malibu because it's not lost, but still in its own place in Los Angeles County when I last checked on Google Maps. One funny fact, by the way, that Barbie's website once said that Barbie moved to the Malibu beach pad from Willows, Wisconsin.
Yeah but I mean she's Mexican like unless you drove all the way from Nevada or Utah or something or Arizona or probably not cuz you don't have beaches there she's clearly Mexican then and especially taking a speed boat and not actually yacht or anything else sounds pretty Mexican I'm Hispanic I know just how the stuff works and probably after she went to California then she moved to Malibu because she probably got so rich off of working with her family members
I think this is one of mat pats better theories. He didn't have a lot to go off of but connected the pieces into a coherent puzzle.
I started watching this for silly background noise but it’s honestly amazing how well this lines up
An absolute journey! I love this. It makes perfect sense!
Also I didn't realize there were so many Dutch replicas here. With the bike and windmill I was thinking Pennsylvania lol but that would be a much longer journey lol
You got it mostly right. I was ahead of what you were saying every step and agreeing with you until you had them take off and return to Vandenberg. You wouldn't do that. If you leave Monterey and head east instead then you can catch a boat in Matamoros. Take the boat to Houston. Space ship to Vandenberg. The rest fits.
I was thinking Houston as well for the spaceship
Does houston do commercial rocketship flights?
@@I_AM_HYDRAAno - Houston is mission control. It doesn’t launch rockets. You would have to launch from Cape Canaveral in Florida- a much longer boat ride across open water instead of coastline
SpaceX has a launch facility in Brownsville, TX, a little bit south of san padre island along the coast.
@@WorBlux i did not know that. Interesting.
As a Danish person, I had to look up the whole tulip thing, because I have never seen a tulip field in Denmark, turns out there's a reason for that, there's only a small handful of tulip farmers in Denmark, who collectively have 40 hectares, where only 4 hectares, are for farming tulips, so I have no idea where that stereotype comes from, plus that village, looks nothing like Denmark, not even old school Denmark, maybe Holland, don't know, I have never been there.
@@ooma8 To be fair, he didn't pronounce it too wrong, except for pronouncing the "I" like an English "I", where ours sounds a bit more like the English "E", and "Æ" like an "A", It translates to Apple slices, because back in the day we did traditionally take a slice of Apple and put into them, it's essentially just pancake batter, served with strawberry or raspberry jam and powdered sugar and they are only eaten around Christmas and it's a dessert, that town is so out of touch, that they serve them year round with christmas sausage as a main meal together, it's disgusting to think about. haha
@@ooma8 Unless you make them yourself, most stores don't carry them year round, so you would have to go on a bit of a treasure hunt just to find them, it's a christmas dessert and it's incredibly simplistic compared to our other desserts, there are better alternatives for the rest of the year and many of them are traditionally eaten at that particular time of year it fits better with the weather, the mood and the spirit of the season.
I literally thought the same thing. I have heard previously that people get the Netherlands and Denmark confused, but this is whole different level of confusion, than just mistaking Dutch celebrities as being Danish or vice versa.
9:02 ive actually been to Solvang, CA its pretty cool to check out at least once
I live near Solvang and Vandenberg, so I got really excited when you got to that part.
Sick, Barbie land is in my city. I knew I was a real life Barbie. Not everyday is Monterrey mentioned in videos so having MatPat of all people talk about it is quite fun 🥰

Can you do a video on Max and Ruby? It was an old show i used to watch and i just realised and found out that there is so much lore behind it.
My favourite film theory episodes are the ones about finding fictional locations
Yea these ones are cool
Man, I haven’t seen Mat make a location video since he found Springfield and Neverland. It’s a pleasure to see this become trilogy. Perhaps now we can expect more?
WE NEED TO DEEP DIVE INTO THE CHEETAH BOO LOOOOORE!!
8:25 That's a clever reference. Good one.
(A bridge too far as well as Operation Market Garden were set in Netherlands, and tandem bikes, tulips and windmills are pretty much cultural staples there)
I was gonna say "Wait a minute, Barbie Land has a coast"
Then I remember that the place is fake and that easily Mattel could have constructed an artifical beach for the Barbies and Kens to enjoy.
Sure, the location ain't one to one, but it's plausible.
In his quest for a theory, Matpat forgot that a literal entire movie set of snowy mountain backdrops and stuff appears out of the sky to send Barbie to the snowmobile WHILE ON THE BEACH, meaning that no, it's not that she had to cross on any borders.
Did we all forget that, canonically speaking, Barbie lives in Malibu, California?
@@Wheeljack214THERES A CANON??!!
@@Wheeljack214Depends on which Barbie universe we’re talking about. The Barbie movie is separate from the usual canon.

I love this theory, because one of my personal favorite cultural touchstones.
Mexican Pink. That particular shade of pink that you find on everything from pan dulce conchas to folklorica dresses to house paint.
That explains it. Barbieland is somewhere in northern Mexico
La rosa Mexicana is a dead giveaway.
Matpat declaring that the coastal Barbie Land is located in the landlocked Monterrey Mexico has got to be one of the most mentally painful things I've had to wrap my head around

I think of it as how Buddy the Elf got from the North Pole to New York through the 7 levels of the Candy Cane forest, past the Sea of Swirly Twirly gum drops, and walked through the Lincoln Tunnel. Maybe that scene in Barbie was an Easter egg since Will Ferrell played Buddy.

Film Theory idea:
In Brave we say that Merida and her three brothers have ginger hair which makes sense their father also has ginger hair but their mother has brown hair so genetics say that at least one of their children would have brown hair too but they don’t which makes me think that the queen isn’t actually their mother and Marisa’s father had an affair with someone else(who has ginger hair) to have his children.
I’d be very honoured if this turns into a video or even just a short.
I’ve been a massive fan of all 4 channels especially this one and food theory so it would mean lot to me.

PLEASE DO SHORTS WARS!!! In a Behind the Scenes live stream they said some stuff about season two and that not everything has been found. ITS ALSO AWESOME so yeah
If i had a nickel for everytime Will Ferrell was the villian in a popular children's toy based movie I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but its weird it has happened twice.
I wouldn't necessarily call him a villain in The Barbie Movie. He was a corporate figure, but his intentions were good and he even stood up for Barbie over Ken and his Mojo Dojo Casa House that was flying off the shelves
Still.. MUGATU is his best villain ever.
One thing tho... that is a VERY roundabout way to take. The speedboat takes you to a shore much closer to the destination than the rest of the journey
It makes more sense the speedboat is from the Mexican east coast to the spacex brownsville launch site, just across the border, from where they can go in a rocketship to Vanderbilt.
I doubt this will be seen by anyone on the Theory Team, but I just want to say that the mention of Solvang at about 9:04 led to my fiance and me taking a vacation there and it's a really wonderful place. So thank you for giving us a new vacation spot!
I love when scientists nerd out about this stuff. Neil deGrasse Tyson had something to say about the Barbie movie. He just posted this on Facebook.
"In Barbie the Movie, the Moon's orientation places Barbie World between 20 & 40 degrees North Latitude on Earth. Palm trees further constrain latitude between 20 & 30 degrees.
The Sun & Moon rose & set over the ocean.
So if it’s in the United States, then Barbie World lands somewhere in the Florida Keys.
I live in Florida, just not in the Keys. Does that mean that if I take a car ride to Key Biscayne, I may go to Barbieland?
So confused how you ever thought of Denmark when seeing tulips and windmills which are both so stereotypically Dutch!
9:32 It took so many years but Jason finally is no longer to blame #thankjason

Where are Max and Ruby’s parents? You must make a theory about this. This has been pondering my mind for the couple of minutes that I just decided to watch the show again because I wanted to revisit my child hood.

Hey MatPat! I got a Film Theory For You: How much time does it have to take to have a successful Legacy sequel, or what is the formula to making the perfect Legacy sequel, that checks all the boxes critically, commercially, and audience wise? I think this could make a really fun episode, especially with all the Legacy sequels that are on the rise.
The Creed trilogy is the best example of what a legacy sequel should be
I read this as legacy squirrel and was very confused for a second 😅. Sounds like an interesting topic for an episode 🤔
I’d like to see a theory about what happened to the skipper doll that they mentioned in the movie. The one that got into the real world before Barbie.
Please make a theory about what would have happened if Barbie got in the box!!! It was such a weird moment in the movie and they never explained it
It's not so much that the objects themselves are magical, but that the ritual is magical. By taking those different modes of transportation, it doesn't actually matter where you go, you will be transported between the worlds.
film theory idea: how long would the the bad guys ACTUALLY be in jail/what are the fines they would have to pay or any other punishment they'd have to endure?
BRO I live there! I never thought MatPat would ever talk about my city on a video!!!!! I LOVE IT ❤
Fun fact about me, a random Internet person: whenever I hear details about the Barbie movie production, I confuse Greta Gerwig with Greta Thunberg and need to take several seconds to recalibrate.
“Barbie would need to roller skate 6 days rather than 11, better but still in the realm of ridiculous.”
MatPat saying this about a live action Barbie movie…
Matpat should do a video on shorts wars

It's so uncanny for matpat to talk about locations, cities, and towns I've been to several times or recently
I like the theory that Barbie Land is the real world location of the Mattel factory but to 'pop your bubble' a little, BarbieLand has a beach and Monterry in Mexico is inland, not close to a beach at all. I did like the theory all together though and how its all layed out 😊
Given the "sea" was made of plastic, that doesn't change anything.
@@maromania7 Well since the sea in the montage isn’t exactly a realistic representation of water either, dismissing somewhere to “beach” as not changing anything just throws the whole theory out the window. If we are gonna be nitpicky we need to be consistent. 😜
@maromania7 in the movie, the sea surrounding BarbieLand was real and moving so if we are following all the steps like MatPat does, then the location of the desert should be near the sea
La playa artificial de apodaca 🤠👌🏼
The fact that Matpat nearly mentioned my city of Holland made me so excited cuz no one ever knows us for big things even if we were far away from CA
As someone from Monterrey, I can confirm, we do live in Barbie Land.
8:56 Tulips, windmills and the outfit’s isn’t really a danish thing, def more Netherlands than anywhere in Scandinavia.
I know several people here in Norway that has Solvang as a surname though 😂
Very good theory, I’m surprised that you didn’t mention that when Kens went crazy, toys reflecting that is already made in the real world. And Mattel management able to follow back into Barbie world without any problem like they know the way too.
Kens went crazy? You mean trying to take down the Matriarchy
This is a certified MatPat video
You forgot to mention that when ken takes over that all of a sudden Mattel is flooded with extra ken dolls being produced making sense that a factory would be the location
Matpat is the one man who will spend several sleepless nights looking for a children’s doll land, and honestly huge respect for that
The fact that Monterrey is literally an hour drive away from my grandma's house and that I go there every time we have the chance is obsoletely hilarious to me.
Been to solving, beautiful place, gotta admit, never saw a tandem bike there. 😂😂😂
You gotta make a film theory about Mrs. Puff from Spongebob.
