For anyone painfully stuck here, it doesnt mention it in this video or in the manual but you can only take these reset and reprogram steps if the garage door is CLOSED.
And for those unclear about this: when you add doors 2 and/or 3, the first door automatically becomes number 1. In that if you have multiple doors, you need to hit your code, the up/down button and then 1, to open or close door number 1.

Great video! I had ordered both the Genie Wireless Keypad and Genie Wall Console. The wall console directions were pretty straight forward, but the wireless keypad directions were a lot more fuzzy. The video cut through all that fuzziness and just gave the brass tacks and left out all the fluff from the written directions. It also helps watching the video being a visual learner. Thanks for taking the frustration out of it!
The manuals I found online and on Genie's website didn't work. What was a simple task turned into a nightmare. Thankfully I found this video and it was spot on about resetting the factory pin/re-programming!
One step is missing if you have an older opener. The LED needs to be red (shown when you press a button) to work with all openers. To switch from green to red, enter the passcode (default is 3, 5, 7, arrow key). Then hold the PROGRAM button until the LED switches from green to red. Excellent video!
Great video! But I think one small step is assumed. On a new unit you use the factory code and program key to set your new PIN. And that works without using the program button on the main power unit. Addition PIN changes will require that the PROGRAM button on the main power unit be activated before a PIN change.
Can you clarify? I had to factory reset after I changed my wifi provider. My master lift is programmed but I still can’t get the key pad to link up. I followed this video but it still not working, I’m thinking perhaps I’m missing something.
As mentioned, the doors must be closed to program. I also found it helpful to do this in low light conditions, or you won't be able to properly see the keypad. Have a ladder on hand to be able to reach the programming button on the opener.

Good video... much better than manual! If your keypad stopped working (like mine did) and the batteries are OK, try taking it apart and cleaning the keypad and battery contacts. The unit is very well built as remotes go, and the problem is likely to be due to dirt or corrosion.
I recently changed the batteries in my wireless keypad and the keypad will not open or close my garage door When I first placed new batteries in it when I pressed a button the backlight on the numbers flashed I gave the batteries a try again earlier before I came to this thread and the backlights lit up solid but I don’t think I was able to get the garage door to run so I didn’t enter my code to try it Maybe I need to let the batteries “charge” or something (I DO NOT MEAN ”CHARGE” like you charge your iPhone battery but I mean let the keypad warm up to the motherboard If that doesn’t work then I’ll check for dirt and corrosion UPDATE: my keypad STILL DOES NOT WORK I LITERALLY CHANGED THE 🔋🔋 ALMOST A MONTH AGO

Good luck reaching Genie Tech Support by phone. Hold time was two hours. They did offer a call back option which I used. The call came early while I was working outside. Not Genie's fault but nonetheless frustrating. Now, I'll try the video.
There are 2 important steps to take BEFORE starting the process. 1st: REMOVE the keypad if its installed, (or do not install new one until AFTER the process is completed). Keep keypad in hand. 2nd: Shut the damnn door! You wont have to worry about running out that crucial 30 seconds as you fall off the ladder to sprint like a fool getting to the keypad outside of the door you just closed. I learned that the hard way 😂😂😂
I watched all the videos and tried all the tricks and resets. Nothing worked. Finally when I was just going to give up I decided to try once more. I opened the cover, the battery cover popped off, there was a hissing sound, and a tiny blue genie popped out of the remote and flipped me off

These genie external door openers are terrible! The button response is not good and too spongy, plus my units always lose their programming to the openers and I have to do the steps all over again. Very frustrating.

This is the panic feature of the keypad, as long as the back lights stay on you'll be able to press any button and any key will open the door, this will last from 15-30 seconds. once all lights are off, you can fully reenter the pin
I thought I did something wrong when the door kept operating after I did the factory reset on the code. Turned it it's just that if you hit any key too soon after putting in the code any key will open it. I couldn't program the new code because the door kept opening. I just let it sit a minute then programmed the new code and it worked.
While the actual instructions are correct, doing them in this order didn’t work for mine despite it being the same model. What DID work was: 1. Reset the keypad as instructed 2. Enter 357 then hit program 3. Enter desired code then hit program again 4. Put the actual opener on the ceiling in program/learning mode 5. Enter in the new code you set on the keypad then press the up/down button 3-4 times From there you should be able to use your new code normally :)
What if I want to control two doors and I want to open door number one? You say to hit the pin, up, then 2 or 3. What if it’s the primary door I want to open? Also, you say current pin then say pin when talking about the second door. I thought the second door got a different pin, this screwed me up several times
I don't like having to enter in the pin number to close the door. Is there another way? Previously I had a Liftmaster keypad, and to close the door all you had to do was press the enter button. Of course, you had to enter in the pin + enter to open it.
We set the code but whenever we press any button when opening or closing the door it disrupts the door. It will open the door if closing or vice versa.

Everything seems to operate as directed except... when using the keypad or openers, instead of opening or closing my garage door, the motor box just clicks?? The wall mount button opens and closes it without any issues though.

The keypad will not open the door. The opener will flash the green and purple light for a quick blip when I press the code and up key. When I use a remote it doesn't do this blip, and opens no problem

This is infuriating. My home is about 3 years old, the builders programmed the original code and had this thing working to get in an out. Since then the code has been lost. I've went through and reset the remote and set up a new pin. Problem is I can't take the Genie 1028 model motor/opener to take in the remote keypad and maintain it. I go through the instructions posted here, and I can open and close the door a few times. The problem is that after about 5 or 6 times the opener stops accepting requests from the keypad. We have to start over, completely reset the keypad, program new pin, reprogram the garage opener to take in the keypad, and same thing... only a few successful open/close cycles. This is something I can use on my house that's basically useless.
About the keypad reset procedure. Can someone maliciously do the keypad reset procedure resulting in erased codes and therefore unable to open the garage door(s)?

Great video, and I have a question. When entering my PIN, the LED flashes for the first two digits, but not for the remaining. Is this an indication the keypad is broken or letting me know the PIN is not valid I'm hoping to know before attempting to reset the PIN using the learn mode. - Thank you!
Every time you press a button the LED indicator should flash. If it is not flashing could be that the button isn't sensing the press, or possibly you may need a replacement.

I hate Genie now. I've had nothing but problems with my remotes and keypad.

I mounted one of these on my metal trim around my door, and it would not work. Found I had to move it off of the metal for it to work.

These instructions are great. It worked. The manual is not well written!
While the actual instructions are correct, doing them in this order didn’t work for mine despite it being the same model. What DID work was:
1. Reset the keypad as instructed

From there you should be able to use your new code normally :)

I do acknowledge this is a clear & straightforward video. I spent the entire afternoon trying to program the second door. Simply didn’t work 🤷♀️
