First time I realized that I love Marvel’s darker side was when I watched the Legion series. And now with Moon Knight I’m seeing a lot of similarities. Again though, Moon Knight can only do so much of that type of psychological horror without getting an M rating. Which ofc saddens me, bc I’d really like to see what Moon Lnight could’ve been with the same boundaries Legion had. To anyone who hasn’t seen it, I’d highly recommend it. Season 1 is amazing, season 2 is great too but gets a little iffy, and then towards the end it’s just a little too much. But I still definitely recommend.

It depends on the reason for the r rating. If it is just rated r to make a no holds barred movie, and that's all that's going on, sure. But the world is messy. Making many movies that are only showing the innocent side of the world (at least to the PG-13 level of innocent) misses out on a lot of potential stories. They don't have to be escalating just because it's rated r. It may just open up a larger set of stories that feel real.
      2 wildly different examples:
      1) suppose you're making a movie about a large war. Showing the horrors that the innocent people went through might raise a movie's rating to r. But that makes it feel more real, and the stakes are more grounded, not just some abstract thing that you know is happening off screen.
      2) in a romance story, pg-13 might imply a physical relationship, but it wouldn't really show anything like that. But the reality is that most adult relationships have a physical component. So including it occasionally might make the love more believable.
That isn't to say only things that are rated r are good. Far from it. But that rating doesn't have to limit a story to fit into any particular box

There was a brief mention of the Spider-Man drugs comic here, but the full thing is a really funny story: Stan Lee was told he couldn't release the story by the Comics Code Authority, but then realised a loophole in the system: he just released it anyway, without the CCA logo on the covers, because there was nothing in the rules that said he couldn't do that, and then went back to it after the story was done. Everyone quickly realised how useless the code actually was.

The government can't get mad about them taking off the CCA logo just to say no to drugs! It's what Nancy Reagan would want! 😇

Matt!!! Huge fan of all of your channels! I love how you put so much research, dedication, and science into all of your vids! Which leads me to my question. With Deadpool becoming an X-man, and Spiderman finally joining the Avengers, where does The Runaways come in? And when do The Fantastic Four become Canon? The Runaways were amazing, almost giving a "Teen Titans" vibe to the Marvel Universe. The girl that could mind control and communicate with a pet dinosaur, the Alien girl that could glow for some reason, the "She Hulk" with super strength, the brilliant Inventor scientist, the stereotypical Asian that can wield a staff, and the very intelligent leader of the group that fought himself between good n evil. I loved the show, and was super sad when it got cancelled. I wish they did more with their storylines. And then Fantastic Four obviously takes place within New York, like the Avengers do too! So how do FF interject with the Avengers? These are all questions I need answers to! And also, what's the difference between Captain Marvel and Ms Marvel!?!?!?

There is a new "Thunderbolts" description on a wikipedia page covering all the Marvel films - according to Wiki, it'll feature an evil team working for a government.

I would _love_ more grown up stories from Marvel.
The comics deal with some dark stuff and to see that a little more faithfully recreated would be awesome.

Honestly I want to see a theory on the kids show Bluey. If anyone has kids they're bound to know it. I want a theory on how the different species of dogs could evolve without being domesticated from wolves and bred with specific purposes. Maybe it'll just be attributed to how there were different human like species that mated with each other, but I'd like a breakdown of it still.

You mentioned Ghost Rider as a character that was going to not fit in with the other PG-13 movies at the beginning, but the Robbie Reyes version popped up in Agents of shield, and he was still able to burn people to a crisp without making that MA.
Other than that, if Marvel does start using those other characters, at least someone will be mad that their character was made less gory or that they are locked behind an age wall.

Given the technology that we have, there can also be a ratings based streaming system. So, for example, you could have different cuts of the same movie where things too mature are not shown or alternate scenes are there to take their place. It would be like an age-restricted choose your own adventure. The start and end are the same, but the middle is where things shift in one direction or another.

Actually a pretty good idea, one that has existed for years with TV broadcasts of movies. Hats Off Entertainment has chronicled a lot of time where deleted scenes were used in place of objectionable scenes because of the channel and time slot a movie was airing on.

I hope this is true. I have very few complaints about the MCU movies but the big one is that it always feels like it’s for children and not really teenagers young adults and so on. If they can make an edgier more realistic world for people like blade without compromising the characters then I’m on board.
