The problem I had with Dark Phoenix was the characterization of everyone, how Raven kinda just dies, how Jean becomes so numb to the fact she killed Raven, someone who believed in her so much, only to get killed off because the movie needed an emotional death.
I gotta agree, I mean the death felt so shoved in that I couldn’t comprehend a reaction to it, if anything just critiquing how Raven didn’t give Jean space when talking to her. And yeah the way Jean just doesn’t acknowledge it very well kinda made me brush past the situation. I may be speaking without experience but I just think you have good points

I recently watched Dark Phoenix now that its on bluray and surprisingly i liked it as well - it was no where as bad as EVERYTHING i had seen about it made it out to be. It still has some MAJOR issues but it was enjoyable.
Neither movie is the greatest Marvel movie ever, but they are not the worse either.

I actually watched it because i like x men and there was no other movie that was good and i really liked this movie
But it was a good movie!! Not the best X-Men movie, but it was good. I watched it because X-Men are the first hero saga I ever watched, both cartoons and movies. I just got disappointed because I was hoping for a little more, specially more Nightcrawler's time on screen because he is my favorite character.

when he said wednesday and every other weekend i freaked out a little because that’s my schedule for my dad lmao
I feel like dark Phoenix was missing an act. I loved the first part, and then it just suddenly ended with no huge and CLEAR climax. It felt like the writers just kind of gave up at the end. It was so disappointing because it felt like it could have been so much better, but it was just obvious that everyone, including the cast, was just ready to be done.
I thought Captain Marvel was about a Flerken named goose and his side kick, Samuel L Jackson.
Edit: Thanks for the kind words...and now to ruin them by saying that I actually liked Captain Marvel, especially Talos; the nord Warrior incarnation of Shor...hold on that sounds wrong.

That was more of a legal matter. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are deeply tied to both X-Men and Averagers. So they similar had MCU Quicksilver die and had Fox's Scarlet Witch make a small cameo.

honestly where DP messed up the most for me was that they killed off mystique (raven) SO UNRELUCTANTLY. mystique is a HUGE threat in the comics, like Prof X and Magneto levels, and they killed her off as if it was NOTHING. sure, the characters are upset, but nothing heart-wrenching happens to me, like I didn't even cry

The thing is within Marvel comics there have always been Skills that just want to live in peace, and other Skrulls that wanted universal domination. Just like every single population some want peace and some want war.

And that's what Disney has been working to undo. Like Matpat said, Marvel was broke at one time, and the best way for it keep the lights on was for it to sell the rights to their characters.

What I find interesting about the X-Men franchise being back with Marvel, is the Rogue and Carol Danvers story line being more of a possibility - the Rogue I grew up with had Carol's powers and her psyche trapped in her mind... Heck Mystique was originally a Ms. Marvel villain, and Rogue was meant to debut in that comic before it was cancelled.

Honestly, I thought Dark Phoenix was pretty good until the last act which was just kinda okay. And The New Mutants had so much potential and a great cast if it was a TV show it woulda been great, but I still really enjoyed it

When I watched dark phoenix with my family, when we realized they didn't do there X-Men intro, we knew it was bad.
the funniest part of this.... "Wednesday and every other weekend" is actually my custody till I get a judge involved :p
If fox had just adapted the Phoenix saga properly they would have been fine. The similarities are only there because phoenix was so watered down that it was unrecognisable.
I even joking that it should be in fact Onclought, as split personality was his thing. Dark Phoenix was eldritch abomination convinced to be Joan, after all. Whole gimmick was that she was so disjointed from her memory that enemy could easily convince her that she was someone else.
Fox saying "We learned nothing from the failure of rushing this epic story out as a single movie the last time, and we'll make it In Name Only anyway, including shoehorning in Mystique and Magneto even though they had nothing to do with the original" made it very easy for me to just ignore it.

I really wanted to see this movie especially because the background and how much I loved the actual story I didn’t get to see it.
Film theory request : In season 3 of ninjago, the city called ninjago had turned into a futuristic paradise with flying cars, drones and robots until a computer virus of a evil overlord took over and created a army of robotic ninja called nindroids so its up to the ninja to save the world(if you don't understand what I'm talking about look up ninjago masters of spinjitzu season 1 - 3 or12) at the season final after one of the ninja sacrifices himself and the overlord was defeated then throughout the entire series everyone in ninjago city decided to abandon all enhanced technology and go back to current technology we have so is it a good idea to abandon AI and envane technology when it goes horrible wrong then after the war against the robots should we not remake technology?

Ironic that Carol Danvers, the only non-mutant superhero to be an X-Man, would be the cause of their death at cinemas. lol
by the rules set in the comics, back when angel was being used to "cure" all the mutants. "any being possessing an abnormal ability; speed, flight, fire, psychic, or even transformation; be it from birth, accident, or intention is a mutant. we are all brothers and sisters" by those rules, the hulk is a mutant, marvel is a mutant, quicksilver and skarlet witch... oh wait, they are in x-men too...LOL. many mutants have the same or similar origins, just look at wolverine and sabertooth, spike and toad, gambit and rogue. it isn't uncommon in the Marvel Universes for multiple characters to have the same story, just slightly different. NightCrawler even references that he has stopped in the wrong dimension before because it was so close to his own.

After they move from Earth other aliens come to Earth and perform own experiments creating Inhumans from residual Celestial DNA, but Hive rebellion force them to evacuate and surviving Inhumans into hiding. After that yet another aliens come and did basically the same, with over time Dr. Charles Xavier forming X-Gene theory defining those possessing Celestial DNA as Mutants or specifically Homo Superior. Both X-Man (organization) and Inhumans are considered as mutants. In fact many unrelated heroes (like Squirrel Girl) also are considered as mutants, even if they don't associate themselves with the movements. Mentioned case of Hulk is unclear. His father believed that he is a Mutant, but did they ever used blocker on him? It work only on real Mutants, what yes, include majority of superheroes, but not all of them. Anyway Phoenix Force is an alien and despite what shitty movie saying, not Joan Gray. Joan was only one of many its hosts, what in fact include also Mar-Vel.
All of this is even more ironic since Rogue literally stole Ms Marvel's powers and put the character out of commission for some time in the bygone old days of the X-Men, and is also the Rogue from the 90s animated series that introduced a lot of folks to the franchise. Really comes full circle.
Rogue, the character that removed Ms Marvel out of comics for a while, kicks off the first X-Men movie... Ms Marvel dunks the last one until the MCU gets them.

I really want a Dark Phoenix movie to work. The comic and the 90's cartoon both knocked it out of the park, Fox nailed it once, but couldn't do it outside of animation. They got Days of Future Past so right in animation and live action. And of the X-men centric stories those are 2 of the most iconic.

When I first started reading Xmen in the 90s, even I got confused. I thought Ms Marvel and Marvel Girl were the same person, until I read up on Rogue's back story. Rogue got her strength, flight, and near invulnerability from Ms Marvel. That's right, Rogue permanently steals Ms Marvel's powers, by accident because Carol put up such a fight and Rogue held on way too long. Not only that, Rogue for a time actually believed herself to be Carol Danvers, because Rogue also absorbs the memories and personality of whoever she touches. Rogue was a villain at the time, having Carol's personality is what drove her to seek Xavier for help and how she became an Xman. This all happened before Carol became Captain Marvel, she went by Ms Marvel at the time. That's why you don't see Rogue flying around punching things in the Xmen movies because the Xmen and Avengers have yet to cross over in the MCU. Plus Captain Marvel didn't get her energy powers until the aliens called the Brood got ahold of her. That's when Carol went by the name Binary. Carol wouldn't become Captain Marvel until much later.
also: all of the marketing was based on having 1 'famous' person in a big role in the movie, that stuff never works unless you have an absolute legend, and sophie turner simply isnt that (yet)

How the Hell did Dark Phoenix do better in its opening than Godzilla did? It has worse ratings and is an inferior movie, not to mention it kinda has the fatigue explained by MatPat here. Of course, Godzilla's got a decent amount of money, but King of the Monsters deserved way more for the effort put in.

Disney market their movies like Jehovah witnesses. It's almost impossible to miss a trailer or Ad about it. You'll see posters, billboards, news articles, talk shows. You will walk down the street and a flyer in the wind will slap you in the face.

I realized that too, i personally thought Godzilla 2014 and 19 were great movies
1. The marketing for King of Monsters wasn't as extreme as other Kaiju movies.
2. The Xmen movies have been summer blockbusters with good marketing for almost 20 years straight.
3. Dark Phoenix is the final Fox X-men movie. Season and series finales always draw more attention.
4. Comic book movies are dominating Hollywood. Kaiju movies are suffering from infamous flops like Godzilla 2000 and the more recent one that barely had Godzilla in it.

I believe that it might be Prof. Xavier's twin sister.

PS: If I would retcon X-Man in MCU, I think it would make most sense if that was thing of the past with Xavier erasing humanity collective consciousness of mutants. After all X-man and Inhuman are basically the same and they in fact already introduced Celestials (Ego) and Ethernals (Thanos) anyway. Also Joan is dead also in comic.
