"Why do people always lock things behind doors instead of walls?"
Actually, I read a book that had an answer to this. I don't know if it applies in this situation, since they're two COMPLETELY different universes, but since they're both magical doors trapping giant magical creatures in a different dimension, I would assume it's close enough.
I don't remember it very well, but the basic idea was that "when sealing something with magic, there _has_ to be a way to undo it. If there isn't, the magic starts to unravel itself, weakening until it no longer works properly. If there's a way to undo it, no matter how difficult, the magic stays functional for an almost infinite amount of time."
Plus, it's just common sense. If there's a door, then people will focus on trying to get through that door, and won't realise that they could just destroy it much easier.
Another reason could possibly be that they needed a way to get the thing in there. If they conjured a wall in front of it, or built a wall, it might take a lot longer than simply closing a door.
Yes I know that was a joke, I laughed at it and realised it was a joke immediately. I just find this subject fascinating, and I'll take any excuse to dig through a book.
Sounds like something from a Discworld novel
Building a box to lure something in and lock it in definitely much easier to build the box around the something from scratch. You want to build a garage and lure a mad car driver into it, not have them park the car and build the garage around it.
The book might be the Fablehaven series, one of the main characters asked why the giant demon prison had a way of releasing the demons inside and another character said something like what you put in your comment
ill take any excuse to dig through the earth. im suicidal ;)
I feel like the magic was being sustained on an ongoing basis by the good dragon so deterioration wasn't a concern.

MatPat: Wait, what if…..
Steph: Oh No
Yeah actually, why ‘do’ people lock overpowered evil entities behind areas that you would otherwise expect to have access at some point? Doors, caves, or whatever else
You have to close it behind them. Maybe you could walk it off after but the door had to be there in the first place.
Good luck making a solid and strong enough wall while the monster is inside. With doors, they can create them earlier and just lock 'em when the monster crosses.
maybe because building a wall around the creature would take too long? i feel like the "doors" and "caves" function more like snares, cages or jailcells, where they have to exist prior to the lockup, and have to have an entrance so that the creature can be locked up quicker? but idk that's just one way to look at it
It's basic rules of most witchery/magic: Where there is a beginning, there MUST be an end. There has to be a way for them to be released/unleashed
@@lostmonkey but you can just make wall on top of the door
A door is how you efficiently get out after putting the monster on the other side. You should absolutely build a wall on the outside of the door, but it would take to long to build the wall while there is an open space for it to escape through
Who cares about the one that trapped the monster? They agree to sacrifice themselves in the first place so bye
That's what the guy signed up for as soon as he agreed to build it
Couldn't you like you know get out close the door then wall it up seems like closing the door works
This comment is so strange without context.

Matpat... Thats Ultron... Not Galactus
This is a real stretch. I think they just made the Dweller in Darkness a generic monster because they had no plans to use him as anything more. They actually use it the same way in the Guardians of the Galaxy game.
most of the stuff about the xmen in the mcu felt like a stretch, but the stuff about the potential villians/wanda being called to actually sounded realistic! If I had to guess he’s probably PARTIALLY correct lol
He also messed up the fact that X-Men 87 is a sequel to the show, not a reboot of it
@@robbyb3ll4s Though, it being a sequel would actually fit better with the theory on how it will be ending like it did in the comics.
@@starryeyes5534 A stretch? Are you kidding? The stuff about X-men ‘97 sounds so legit. I’ll be surprised if none of it whatsoever is true.

my guess as far as why they noticed Shang-Chi's use and not WenWu's might be due to the power level usage.
Wenwu's power usage of the rings was probably at a basic or average level of magic usage that might not get all that much notice with all the regular magic that gets used on Earth. You'd have to be REALLY looking for that unique magic signature and scrolling through subsections of magic to notice and find it. But Shang-Chi in that movie probably pushed the power intensity when he fought The Dweller in Darkness, that surpassed the base-line magic levels Khamar Taj would notice. And that got Wong to look into the specifics of what was going on and to seek out Shang-Chi himself.

I'm surprised that the possibility that the "Dweller in Darkness" we saw in Shang-chi was not actually the "Dweller in Darkness" wasn't brought up. I mean, it's totally possible that the big dragon thing was just a general, a "mid-level boss", as it were. It just seemed weird that before the door opened, it acted as a skillful manipulator, but as soon as the seal broke it was just "Rawr big monster"...
to be honest, once the door was open, asking very nicely woulnt have gotten it anything right in front of that village :/

@@insertclevernamehere1186 The village is at the portal to earth. If the dweller decides hes cool not destroying our reality, there's really nothing to be gained by forcing a confrontation. Nothing wrong with that.
That is consistent with marvel/Disney's MO. Introducing a big bad and then leaving it to simmer off screen while subtly implying that it might be dead or just another power below an even bigger threat.

This is a very cool theory. My personal theory is that the rings are sending a message to the dragon's home planet and calling Fin-Fang-Foom.
In the comics, the rings are made of the souls of dragons from this planet and the dragon's eyes, during the final battle, flashed quickly of the same color as the rings.
I love the content you do mat. I just wanted to share my personal theory here of the rings.
This theory is flawed but still nice video
Sooo MatPats original theory?
I dunno if matpat forgot a detail but in order to seal someone or something then you should first put it in and in order to do that you need an opening.
The dweller in darkness was a figurative villain from what his mother said about mastering the darkness and light in his heart. Also for him being scared of conflict. Etc.

Is no one going to talk about how accurate this theory is now with the reveal of Prof. X in Multiverse of Madness??
I have a theory.... Feige waits for MapPat to post, and revises his scripts accordingly.
Great points made, especially on the Scarlett Witch connection, but one thing to add. The X-Men comics coming out absolutely reflected the show. Both in team roster and art style the main 616 comics and show were incredibly similar. The comics shown in the video that were meant to highlight differences were decades older than the show, unlike the comics coming out alongside it.

I remember that old X-Men show. . . .it eventually got to the point where whenever you'd watch it, it was always reruns of the Phoenix or Yukiko arc. That was my last memory of that show, being glad when the episode on that afternoon wasn't from one of those two arcs. I don't remember any other story arcs from that show because of that. I can't even recall a lot of the villains from that show. The only ones I can ever recall seeing was Sabertooth, Mystique, Magneto, and the Sentinels. I'm sure there were others, but I just can't recall them because Fox Kids never showed any episodes beyond those two arcs.

I theorized that Xu Wenwu, masked the intended use of the rings using a spell that gave the rings their blue hue when in his possession. When Shang-Chi started using the rings, the spell wasn't able to hold in his possession and gave off a yellow hue. It's original color. That's why the beacon wasn't reactivated until Shang-Chi started using the rings and they went back to being yellow.
Or maybe due to shang-chi's ancestral lineage in Ta Lo that gives him the connection to the Rings that Wenwu never have. Proly the City of Ta Lo has some connection to the Eternals or something

I hope the actual dweller in darkness is Annihilus
And when Scarlett Witch hears her kids at the end of WandaVision I hope its actually Annihilus doing that because he knows Scarlett Witch is powerful enough to break open the gate
Okay, about the Rings and why Wong never noticed them...
They explain in the movie that the Mandarin's rings were made of a different energy compared to Shang Chi's. That is why Shang Chi's rings are a different color and seem to be more powerful than the Mandarin's.

Galactus is one of those big baddies that has crossed paths with almost every Marvel property that exists, so he can easily fit where ever needed in a story and is impressive enough of a character to play a part - if not be - the cornerstone baddie. Another interesting fact is that CMON (company known for board games that also has a license for Marvel games) has a giant Galactus figure in their next game.
Ooo- haha just watched the film sorry Matt doesn’t happen yet
Merry Christmas Film Theory! I have a Home Alone film theory for you and no it's not Kevin becomes the guy from Saw. At the beginning of the movie Harry is seen disguised as a cop, but where did he get the uniform. If you look at the actual cops in the movie, the uniforms look just like the one Harry wore. So this leads to three possibilities:
1. Harry's a former disgraced cop who now makes a living robbing houses
2. He possibly killed a cop for the uniform
3. Harry expertly made a replica uniform
Take your pick. I'd love to see a video of this!
Question: Why would the rings call out to Galactus? are they like actual dinner bells that were just flung into space by Galactus hoping they would land on a planet with sentient creatures that could use them? And why did it take Shang-Chi to use them for the beacon to activate? Was his dad not the right flavour of human for the beacon to turn on?
Maybe what he wanted was his mother's world
maybe galactus doesnt like oranges? so when it was used by the mandarins he didnt come
@@richardkurniawan6066 bruh
I think it's because Shang-Chi is the lineage, remember he is the son of Ying Li, a decendant of Ta Lo, so think that might be the reason, or atleast partial reason why the ring worked with Shang-Shi but not Xu Wenwu his dad, its because like I said Shang-Shi the decendant of Ta Lo, while his father is 100% human.
i think it activated when shang chi warrior because something about him whether it’s his age or strength or maybe even it’s memories read or something, told the rings that the earth was primed for being eaten. maybe beating the dweller told it that as now earth made creatures strong enough to do stuff like that

Probably, however this is MatPat we’re talking about.
Okay, I hear you, but hear me out...
This is a cool theory but we know Kevin Feige likes to keep it simple, so I think we'll get Galactus with a little simplified storyline. Like how Tony Stark built Ultron instead of Hank Pym, or how the origins of a lot of characters' powers are changed to be explained with an interaction with the infinity stones now. I think he'll just be a celestial that doesn't like other celestials' ways. Or maybe he "merged" with a celestial right before the celestial was born and destroyed his planet, so now he devours planets to stop celestials from being born etc. (just like how he merged with the sentience of the universe) I'm just spitballing here, but I think if they made Ego a celestial, making Galactus a celestial as well to simplify his backstory for the general audience makes sense.
But I thought of Galactus as well when they said the rings started a beacon. (I watched the movie after I watched Eternals so I knew they didn't belong to them.) I think they might belong to one of Galactus' old heralds, like Air-Walker. He's a good candidate because he's from Xandar which is already established in the MCU, his powers are vague enough that they could be bent to the powers of the rings, he doesn't already have an iconic object like Silver Surfer's board or Firelord's staff, and I don't think he's a popular enough character to make people mad just because he's killed off in the past. (That one Air-Walker fan reading this, I'm sorry, but come on.) Plus, the explanation for his powers are quite similar to how Eternals' powers are explained in the movie (that's true for most heralds I believe), which would tie in nicely with making Galactus a Celestial (just a copy-paste from marvel fandom .com because I'm lazy);
_"The original Air-Walker possessed the vast cosmic power that Galactus granted to all of his heralds upon their initiation. His body was restructured to be a living battery of cosmic energy, the Air-Walker could utilize cosmic power for a variety of effects: heat, concussive force, magnetism, electricity, etc. Unlike most of the other heralds, the Air-Walker utilized this cosmic energy without an accompanying visible manifestation (such as Firelord's "cosmic flame")."_
Also, I believe Air-Walker was featured in a Marvel game recently, Marvel Contest of Champions. They sometimes introduce comic book versions of some characters to mobile games like Contest of Champions and Marvel Future Fight before they're introduced in the movies. So maybe there's something to that as well.
This just popped into my mind... Now that's kind of a separate theory, but, if they apply how Air-Walker was created to Eternals, I think that would solve some issues I had with them. Like, if Eternals are robots, how can Thanos and Starfox be brothers? Or, why was Sprite created as a child in the first place? Why were they given emotions and personalities? If they were " *restructured* to be a living battery of cosmic energy" instead of being *created* as robots, I think that would answer a lot of those questions. Maybe Celestials came to Titan and created a bunch of robots for themselves? And that could explain why Titan was weird like that and how it was destroyed, why Thanos didn't just double the resources, and he destroyed half of the population instead, etc.
Peter quill ends up being galactus, Sincerely, A time traveler.

For argument's sake I'm just gonna say that's because doors are also easier to close than walls, because they can actually be closed.
Logically it does seem to be easier to trap something in a room by just quickly pushing a door closed, rather than asking it to politely stand still while you build a whole wall.
Obviously, there's still some flaws with that in certain contexts of thing being sealed e.g when the door is actually built around them rather than just shut on them. And even in the contexts where it makes sense it still usually leaves the question of "Ok, but now the door's closed you could've still built a wall or even walls in front of it right?"
But at least there are some somewhat decent arguments to be made.
I'm not gonna make a Cask of Amontillado joke...I'm not gonna make a Cask of Amontillado joke...
What if the wall closes like a door to be a wall again.
When is a door not a door? when it is a wall.
Thats assuming the door was already there to begin with. If they have to build it, it takes more time to build a door than a wall.
But usually in stories to explain why, they tend to give an answer of "they were buying time to learn how to truly defeat it " of making the item or person still accessible
My bet is they intended to build a wall after they close the door, but then think “You know what, that’s probably good enough.” and just left it like a rough draft of an essay.

I'm sorry, fanboy but Disney/ Marvel will never make a better X-Men movie than Days of Future Past
impossible
put real actors in those original consumes, average movie goer is just walking back out the door.
There is NOTHING good about how the originals looked back tyen.
Accurate?
Does anyone remember fighting galactus in lego marvel 1? Ahh the good old days
I’m calling it now, Wanda is gonna pull a reverse House of M. Pull mutants into existence trying to bring her kids back to life. Either during or in a post credit scene in the new Dr.Strange movie. “Let there be mutants”
You should do a Gravity Rush/ Gravity Rush 2 theory on whether or bot the city on the world pillar would be able to support itself with the amount of space given, and whether the city would stay upright

I’m commenting just cuz I feel bad you got hit with 5 bots
@@destroyerz123 thanks
All of MatPat’s incorrect theories are actually correct in alternate timelines.
Wowww czcams.com/video/FSSFgWlDbJU/video.html
There are other timelines?
Yes!
How many did you see?
14,000,605.
How many was MatPat right?
All of them... But one... This one. He's wrong in this future, but all the other ones. He's dead on right.
Omg!! That bar in the very beginning is a bar i go to regularly on the weekends!! That was crazy to see!
The reason for people to seal evil creatures behind a cell with a door is bacause they build the cell first then place the monster in, they can't place the monster in if every wall is closed now can't they?
Besides at least people try to open the door, it takes some time to solve whatever Millennium Puzzle they placed on it, it's more effective than a guy getting wise and just blowing up one of the walls.
Off topic but I love how you still say "that's just a theory... A FILM/GAME theory!". Makes my old adult heart giggle in childhood
Wowww czcams.com/video/FSSFgWlDbJU/video.html
This movie is gonna be such a nostalgia trip for me. Very excited!
I like how he put Zuko in there when he’s talking about fear lords 😂😂😂😂
Yo mat, (in the end) Dr Strange makes everyone forget who Peter Parker is.
2 theories here-
The first spell affected other universes not just the Tom Holland universe but also the Tobby and the other guy universe.
Does that mean that people even in their world will forget who Peter Parker is?
Second-
If nobody remembers Peter Parker, what about the video mysterio made that revealed that Spider-Man is Peter Parker?
Hey MatPat and theorists, I’d like to point out that you said the upcoming X-Men ‘97 was the only Fox Marvel property to be announced, but an MCU Fantastic 4 was actually announced a while ago.
Great theory, and keep up the great work!
Wowww czcams.com/video/FSSFgWlDbJU/video.html
He meant the only announcement fir Disney + day.
I didn't know the xmen cartoon was a fox property bc I remember watching it on DisneyXD as a kid
14:25
10-2= Less than 10
Wish my Math was this good.
8:30 Jojo stone ocean ahhhhhhh
Nah the universe got reseted not end
Well that didn’t happen
4:47 that's vilgax omg Ben 10 crossover with Marvel official
We were overdo for an incorrect but entertaining MCU theory. Thanks Matt.
There’s definitely supposed pre vis leaks of prof x fighting wanda/ The Scarlet Witch and whatnot but I don’t think X-men 97 connects to Doctor strange in the multiverse of madness, if anything “what if” and the older Xmen movies will but it’s still a really fun theory!
Congratulations!!🎉 You have made it to the 10% of theories were you are completely wrong
I think something you over looked, is that producers at marvel had seid they don't want to do live action Xmen because it will extend the MCU's life by 10 years
Wowww czcams.com/video/FSSFgWlDbJU/video.html
that makes 0 sense. Xmen are coming. Just not until at least 2023/4
i personally think that the beacon at the end is calling fin fang foom, considering fin fang foom is an alien dragon. Also, in the comics, the 10 rings are just a power source for fin fang foom's species that they accidentally left behind. i think that in the next shang chi movie, fin fang foom is going to try to recover the 10 rings for his homeworld: Kakaranthara
edit: i added some detail
OMG THE MONSTER WITH EYES WAS IN THE MoM TRAILER
2:49 Mave it a door because they build it then have to get the dweller in darkness inside and close the door to seal it. Other wise you have to put it in than build the wall.
the rings were strong enough to break the prison and the dweller in darkness had not eaten in thousands of years aside from the few souls gained during the battle, which increased its strength noticeably each time. presumably in the original final battle it was well fed and thus MUCH stronger
