    Good Job. I appreciate your research and analysis that is definitely relevant for others thinking about the same “opportunity” and to ultimately assist with their decision making. I have been appreciating watches for few years but more so in recent months, by watching, reading and comparing models and brands. I would say for my own taste in watches Rolex is the best. I like the looks of pretty much their whole catalog and the value they offer. Sure there are other watch brands producing some amazing pieces and this snoopy is surely a good looking watch. But next to a Daytona steel it is not a close match. I take the Daytona any day over the snoopy.

    • @LewisMa

      Daytona prices should only be taking in consideration if bought from an AD. Just like the snoopy. I would not ever pay more than the MSRP. And I am glad people like different watches than me, that’s what makes this hobby so cool. It would be boring if everyone liked and wore the same type of watch.

    It's not limited edition but went to Omega boutique yesterday to ask about this watch and learn that there's a 3 year waiting list for it. They can only produce 2k units a year so if I'm lucky I'll get it just before the 55th anniversary watch comes out. Will definitely pre-order that one!

    Even if you had the money to buy the Snoopy, Boutiques have been very selective as to who can buy one because supply has been so low for this one. So as someone who hasn't dabbled in Omegas previously, you would have a hard time securing a spot on the waitlist. However this watch has been on the secondary market for around $20,000.00 for a while, and is currently dropping to around $17,000.00. It would have been a good investment piece at MSRP. But it's too good a watch to consider selling once you have it.

    Great video. So I like this watch, but don't love it. As you said, and many collecting watches say, "Don't buy for investment, buy because you love it." Well that's my mentality, of course I have made some mistakes buying watches that I thought I would wear and honestly don't. I am up to 25 quality pieces, and looking at buying 2 more I'm currently obsessing over. I have one Speedy in my collection, a Moon to Mars, and really like it. Though I don't wear it much due to the hezalite crystal and fear of a fading dial which seems to be an issue with this particular watch. I purchased this watch from an AD who decided to no longer carry his Omega line, probably 12-15 years ago for 1600.00 with box and papers. It was a no brainer; my wife stopped me from buying the rest of his Omega's, all were 1/2 off. That was a big mistake. Today i went to my Omega AD and tried on 2 Omega Speedmaster Moonphase editions, one with a black dial, other with a blue dial. I love the black on stainless band. This I believe will be my next Omega, since I don't have a moonphase watch currently in my collection. Again, great video!

    It is now 12/2022. The 50th Anniv Snoopy may not be a limited edition but they are very hard to get. My Omega Boutique (not an AD) got 2 for the year. Earlier this year, market price was low $30K, now about $23-25K. I just got mine at retail and am not going to sell it. There's background in the Snoopy for me. Charles Schulz's home was about 10 miles from me and I grew up with the Peanuts comic strip. I've looked at other Speedmasters and appreciate the level refinement, tighter tolerance, and accuracy not found in Rolexes. I don't think I'd trade it for a Daytona.

If you can’t afford it, don’t put it on credit card or hoping it will go up in value. Fat dreams. Like my regular mega and power ball lottery tickets. Dreams. Lol.

Please people, don’t sink $10,000 on a watch hoping it increases in price. The last few years are an anomaly. Put that $10,000 on carefully selected stocks. However, if you love the watch and want to wear it with the view that you could sell it and possibly get your money back then buy it.

    • @hodger07
      @hodger07 Před 3 lety +1

      I purchased (2) of the 50th anniversary , I have been a collector for years. I concur with the statement below that there will be only 5k produced first year (worldwide). this is what I was told off record by folks on inside. Additional note that may or may not have been mentioned here in this thread that was shared with me when considering my investment is that Omega has intentionally departed from the strategy of limited edition runs but will follow suit more like rolex and constrict supply side quietly. One can infer whatever they want from this. I have personally concluded the following: (1) this is smart move on Omega's part because folks get upset when they announce there will only be XXXX amount and only "VIP list" will get them...Its really not good PR for the brand. Better to quietly constrict supply side then at end make announcement like rolex - "discontinued". (2) this is a 50th special edition watch ... So its not a stretch to figure out Omega will not pump on 15k of these watches (3 year of 5k per year) it will likely be 1 year and 5k. thats my bet. And I concur it will not reach prices as the other version @ 2k production but I will be valuable - my bet 2x multiplier - why? supply side short, 50th is symbolic period, devaluation of currency - assets are good bet against inflation, watch prices are up up up... this is just another excuse for the collectors to pick up good piece. no proof read - forgive typos :)

    Lewis. There is a difference. Would you really buy this watch and wear it because you really like it, BUT not love it? If you purchase this watch and it depreciates you will not care. as you know I have been in this game a long time. I always purchase the watch that I love and eventually others do to, driving the price up. My latest example is my F.P Journe Octa 42mm Rose gold. Two years ago no one purchased these. Now look. Will lightning strike twice or will Omega make as many as possible for the revenue? Or you can look at this like a stock purchase. Risk-Reward.

    The problem with the assessment would be where else to park the money in watches...youll be hard pressed to find any of the appreciating rolex models at the AD and forget about getting a Patek or AP at that price point. This basically only limits your options to non timepiece investments. Generally, watch collecting is a losing money type of proposition for the most part and folks do it because they have a passion with the collecting aspect. As Roman Sharf always says, watches are an expensive toy and not investments...given the low availability of hyped pieces to the common investor or even watch enthusiast, I don't think we can look at watch collecting as an investment, but more like playing lotto where if you get a sought after watch, you're considered lucky...thus, to me, I can't really look at modern day watch collecting as an investment at all.

    You asked for honesty, even if we didn't like the video, so here it is...your rationale really confused me. Boiled down it seemed to go like this "I was considering whether to buy this watch. I liked the watch, but first I had to do a 'quick & dirty' estimate on whether it might appreciate in value or not. Oh, and I'm not made of money so I decided the opportunity costs were too high because I might like something better tomorrow."
    Now, if I had $10,000 for a watch, I'd buy it. But I don't have the money right now (thanks, COVID!) But regardless, price is one of the first things I consider with a watch. Other than my fantasies, I don't seriously consider watches in that price range. You could tell me that it has a 90% chance of appreciating in value and I STILL wouldn't buy it. And "maybe something better will come along" is something we all have to wrestle with for any discretionary purchase.
    I don't consider resale value because most watches are a terrible investment. But I know lots of guys who buy, wear for a while, then sell it. So more power to you. My tastes don't change that much. Generally they expand. So something I like today, I'll probably still like tomorrow. And something I DON'T like today, I might like tomorrow. The Speedy Pro is a perfect example of this. I had the money to get one 10 years ago, but wasn't interested. By the time I WAS interested, I couldn't afford them. And I still really enjoy all of the watches I've accumulated over the years.
    I think this video would have been better if you talked about the watch itself, and maybe your theory on whether you thought it would appreciate in value. You could have also given us your personal feelings about it, but left out the "this was my thought process on whether I should buy the watch or not."
