Owner selling his miata to a 18 year old in 2050: never seen winter, no rust
***also miata owner
Thats so weird here in Austria too! On „Willhaben“ half of them apparently „never saw snow“ or „summer car“, „never seen winter“ and so on!
Brave men, I've survived Canada's 2019 winter with the soft top, I'd say YES you can!
Haha I had an '06 in Winnipeg for 5 years. It was awesome.
It's not the cold that worries me. It's the rear wheel drive. Miata has a 50/50 weight distribution so it should mitigate the problem.
I'm seriously considering purchasing a 2021 Miata RF Grand Touring and it will be my daily driver here in NE Ohio. I'm not too concerned since our winters haven't been terrible lately, plus snow tires and a little weight int he trunk make all the difference. I've been lusting after the Miata for decades and I always stopped myself from buying one because I live in the snow belt, but I've finally realized that time waits for no one and you only live once! I'm doing it...and hoping for the best!
I did as well. Went for the 1.5 as my daily.
I'll try it out this winter here in Denmark, got it undercoated.
My main concern is rust from the road salt used.
But the undercoating should lessen the problem.
The bottom is mostly aluminium, so i'm not concerned abour rust there.
I'll try it this winter, then check it out after the winter season is over.
If it's bad, i'll get a second car for winter driving.
@@BoatLoadsofDope I wound up getting a GT soft top about a month ago and I absolutely can;t get enough of it! I also purchased a used Subaru Impreza for winter driving. The more I thought about it, the more I couldn't stomach subjecting my beautiful MX-5 to road salt, potholes, etc. I plan to own this car for the rest of my life and I want to keep it pristine.
@@dlg5485 nice choice for a winter car.
Yeah the more i drive in mine, the harder it get's to stomach the thought of driving it on salted roads, that tears me a bit apart.
I think i'll get a second car as well.
My plan is to keep it for 6-8 years, then go electric.
@@BoatLoadsofDope How did the car do? :)
Updates?
My ND soft top heats up nicely in about 10 minutes. Stays warm enough for me with and the heated seats keep it cozy.
Good to know what temps?
hi Rick, how do you clean the soft top during winter muddy months? it's the only thing keeping me from getting Miata as my daily driver
Yeah, I got a 07 soft top- heated seats a hat and gloves are all you need
This car would become a snow plow if the snow exceeds 6 inches.
Nice. Thats usefull
Would people be driving in snow that's over 6 inches, tho?
@@Durka-Durka Yes!!!
@@Durka-Durka In the snow belt yes I don’t have a choice
@valeriemegraw2875 I'm in the Chicagoland area, so thankfully our roads get shoveled often. I was thinking about buying a Miata, but ended up with a Honda Civic
the car color looks beautiful in the snow. you got some good shots.
I have the miata 2005 generation and I have to say that the snow tires is the biggest think to consider in the winter. The drive is excellent in snow even if I have rain tyres.Easy to drive and have fun as well. The problem with all vehicles is the ice when the temperature drops low. Even if you have a suv, the car slides like sleigh glider
i drive my brz in the winter. its perfectly fine as long as you know what your'e doing. If there is any ice at all it will step out, so you just have to assume the roads are always icy.
I put all-season tires on in late October and take off in April on my 2019 MX-5 RF GT. Since I ceramic coated my car, I drive very little in snow, particularly slush. Heated seats sure help warming up. Still I drive thoughout the winter in the foothills of the Rockies.
This was very helpful! I am looking into buying a Miata and want to drive it all year and this video help me a lot into making my decision.
Thank you so much!
Did you get it? I'm considering getting one myself
I drive my 92 NA year round in north jersey and used to drive my 92 Eunos year round as well. Snow tires definitely help and you have to be careful. It can be done though.
Good info , but started to get repetitive
Just got an RF. NEED to get some winter tires and wheels.
i use my open diff NA for delivery driving in the snowy moths of canada if you cant daily a rwd in the snow its a tire or skill isue however you should always encourage a little oversteer in the snow because once you enter a understeering ark there is little you can do to keep from going straight
What color is that? Ceramic? Absolutely gorgeous.
I wouldn’t be lowering the top in winter. Ice and snow in the mechanism.. could damage things
I don't see snow this year :/ in Georgia
Do I need to change the snow tires for the snow?
How tall are you?
How to transfer head ball 2
onje of the best winter cars ever
nbfl with lsd diff is so good in snow
I live in Chicago and the streets are always plowed so with blizzacks I think the mx-5 would be good.
Up here now. I may or may not be here for winter. But I'm watching videos like these prepare for it.
How is it REALLY? I'm in Chicagoland myself and really wanna enjoy this as electric cars seem to be taking over...plus I want a stick again!
You don’t need the RF to be warm - despite it being a hardtop, it has no insulation properties worth noting. I’ve had three ragtop Miatas through several sub-zero days and full winters on Blizzaks with no problem. My ND2 (softop) even has heated seats, and they are nice but overkill. The cabin warms much faster than the heat dissipates. It’s a false premise that hardtops do better.
New driver and fellow Ohioan here! I’ve been looking into getting a Miata for awhile. Would this be a good car for a new driver in the Midwest who also wants something nice and sporty?
My next door neighbor just got a hardtop miata. We’ll see what he does this winter 😂
Nice review, but you do realize that "wind chill" has no effect on inanimate objects.....it's a measure of how a person (or animal) will perceive the temperature to be in the wind....but it is not an actual temperature, merely a perception of temperature. You also seem to suggest that you drive the car year round on Bridgestone Blizzak tires....not a particularly good idea unless you want to be replacing those soft compound tires often....
Test driving one tomorrow, i'm in michigan, and will be my daily. with winter tires, are these totally fine in the snow?
I daily drove mine with some cheap nexen winter tires and a bag of oil dry in the trunk for good measure. No issues
Julio A I ended up getting the 19RF with BBS brembo & Recaro! Love this car
@@MDIHSteam1 Where in Michigan? I'm in AA and there is no car I want more than this one but cruising on the highway in winter is something that I don't know I want to do
David Hernandez I am gettin a set of snow tires and LSD will help me not get stuck but AA is a bit hilly but I’m sure it’ll be fine!
I live in Michigan with this car. Have the same Blizzaks and I put four 45 lb. Plates in the trunk close to the back tires. Handled just fine even in 4 inches of soft snow. You of course have to take corners a little slower but I never got stuck.
I will get that car with the winter tires
Yes it handles fine in the snow. Hi I bought a Miata that I can barely afford and I will drive it in the winter. I wonder what are my chances of surviving a collision with a run away SUV 🤦🏻♂️.
🤣🤣🤣
HaHhahahaha
Dude, nobody was worried it would be too cold. Why are you talking about that.
I daily a ND ST in the winter on summer tires no problem.
Get winter tyres tho. Summer tyres wont realy do well at all if you need to brake and do something more sudden and might even get you stuck in smallest snow mound if it sits parked outside when it snows.
@@Kacpa2 texas my friend
@@willanderson9688 Well then you're safe and sound xD
Tho i heard it does snow sometimes in texas too, tho its more of a freak weather i guess.
I live in Canada. It's a no for me.
Potentially more execuses for not coming to the office on snow days :)
Also live in Canada, just bought a 17' Soul red soft top. Looking forward to a fun winter tbh
It depends on where in Canada. In Toronto the city clears the snow pretty quickly. I've driven in the ND through 4 winters without problem. A good set of winter tires is a must though.
@@SleepyZippy hows your bottom on the car?
Rust is my biggest concern, although most of the undercarriage is aluminiun, which will get stained but not corroded by road salt.
Is it undercoated or just the electro coating from the factory?
Soooo repetitive. Get on with it.
