  • In this video, I replace the damaged bayonet adapter on my Canon Lens with a new one sourced from EBay.

Thank you for this video. It helped me save the lens for my Canon Rebel SL1. Slightly different bayonet, but same process. I hadn't noticed the two small screws in the side, searched for how to change the bayonet and this video came up.

My "70-200 f2.8 version one" bayonet mount arrived, and DID HAVE some variation from the original, namely it was missing 3 holes for tiny screws (same size as hot shoe screws, arrayed around the mount barrel similarly to hot shoe screws), for restraining the black-plastic inner collar. I went ahead with the swap anyways.

good video! I just did the same thing to my bayonet mount on my 24-70 2.8. Do you happen to know if the canon bayonet mounts are the same for all EF lenses? I have one from a broken 50mm 1.4 that looks totally identical on the outside as far as screw holes go, but i'm not sure if the interior threading is the same.

Hi Chris, rhanks for the feedback. When I was looking for the mount for my lens, it didn't look like it being generic, but I can't confirm that.

This is my question too. Bayonets seem to be sold by model, however the EF mount is going to be consistent regardless of lens. I suspect that canon only has one metal ef bayonet part number (or very few part numbers) that they reuse on each EF lens. From a manufacturing perspective it doesn't make sense to have several different bayonets when fundamentally the mount needs to be consistent across all EF lenses.

@@DustinShort just an update, I actually swapped out the bayonet mount from my 50mm 1.4 onto my 24-70 and it fit perfectly. Unfortunately I still had to send my lens to canon to get fixed since it was still having focus problems but that was unrelated to the mount. But yeah just to confirm, those mounts ARE interchangeable

@@DustinShortI think the issue will be more about how the bayonet attaches to the lens.
