    Hey ! just watch your video and you just help me fixing a problem I had with my lens, it was kind a loose after the ring, with your video I was able to find where the screw was loose and tight them up, you save me the trouble to send it to Canon and wait for month to come back, and of course the $$$ that could have me cost ;) :) Thank you ....

    I have a similar problem with my lens - the broken aluminum housing, except I have 3 breaks in total. How has the super glue solution worked? What did you use to clean the residue - acetone? Thanks for the informative video!

      It still works fine, but for all 3 I would use metal epoxy for aluminium.

    Great video, thank you. I could fix a noticebable loose on my 70-200/2.8 L USM with your video. How ever, I would need your expertise.... Once reassembled, the AF doesn't work well. It is actuated, but in a quite random way and I don't get the focus. Is there any calibration to make? I saw a rotative component on the electronic board, should I make something? Or else? Thank you in advance.

      wouldn't the screws be JIS standard? given these are assembled in Japan. I mean sure a regular small phillips would work but you risk stripping the screws by not using the proper tool @@InsideOutElectronics

    • @julianuk3266
      @julianuk3266 Před 7 měsíci

      Yes i learnt about JIS when i was working on a Japanese motorcycle, and i stripped a brake reservoir screw, which looked just like a regular phillips. They normally show its JIS head by having a tiny small dot on the screw head. Basically anything Japanese will be JIS. And you really can't go wrong with having a quality set of JIS screwdrivers, as they seem to work better with regular philiips screws than phillips drivers. My goto screwdriver regardless of if the screw is always a JIS driver. Once you get a set, you'll thank me in the back of your mind every time you unscrew a screw til the end of time now lol its crazy how unknown this so very important and useful fact is. @@InsideOutElectronics

    What about lens alignment?

  • @The-four-o-five
    @The-four-o-five Před 2 lety +1

    Don't fool yourself into beliving the lens will be the same again after dis- and reassembly. Without professional optical adjustments the optical quality will suffer badly. After this every Canon 75-300mm will give you better results.

    • @InsideOutElectronics
      @InsideOutElectronics  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you for commenting, I think it is better to have operational lens then heavy paperweight.
      Also I did not touch anything in optical groups. Front group and rear group are intact.I do not think there is any optical suffering by touching AF assembly. And after repair it definitely works better up to this day.
      The only thing I would be very concerned that people doing this touching lenses with dirty fingers or dirty gloves or introducing extra dust and lint inside the assembly.

    • @The-four-o-five
      @The-four-o-five Před 2 lety

      @@InsideOutElectronicsWell, this is less about fingerprints and dust than the whole rear group - it is a centering element. So if you proceed after 12:30 and losen the screws centering on an optical bench will be necessary.

    • @James-li7gs
      @James-li7gs Před 2 lety +1

      @@The-four-o-five If there is no screw slots for an adjustment to be made and no shims for spacing being used, I do not see why an optical bench would be needed. But if the broken tab is not put on strait I could see that it might cause a problem.

    • @mikek24a
      @mikek24a Před rokem

      He is correct, as the rear element was removed (the black one with three screws and washers at 12:33). That rear element has some movement and if you don’t center it correctly, you will get coma or softness. That rear element needs to be placed on a collimator to get it sharp. However, sometimes if you’re careful and lucky, you can get by, by marking the spots exactly and lining the rear element up and screwing it down.
